Any ideas on this issue much appreciated. EDIT: so after dealing with so many psycopg2 errors everytime I set up my mac, I've decided to use VMWareFusion running Ubuntu instead.

• How do i refactor this code by using Action<t> or Func<t> delegates

  I have a sample program, which needs to execute 3 methods in a particular order. And after executing each method, should do error handling. I was looking at some examples online and couldnt figure our if i shud use Action or Func delegates for this. Both look similar but im unable to get a clear idea how to implement this. Any help is gr8ly appreciated. I'm using .NET 4.0, so im allowed to use anonymous methods n lambda expressions also for this Thanks

• Accessing py2exe program over network in Windows 98 throws ImportErrors

  I'm running a py2exe-compiled python program from one server machine on a number of client machines (mapped to a network drive on every machine, say W:). For Windows XP and later machines, have so far had zero problems with Python picking up W:\python23.dll (yes, I'm using Python 2.3.5 for W98 compatibility and all that). It will then use W:\zlib.pyd to decompress W:\library.zip containing all the .pyc files like os and such, which are then imported and the program runs no problems. The issue I'm getting is on some Windows 98 SE machines (note: SOME Windows 98 SE machines, others seem to work with no apparent issues). What happens is, the program runs from W:, the W:\python23.dll is, I assume, found (since I'm getting Python ImportErrors, we'd need to be able to execute a Python import statement), but a couple of things don't work: 1) If W:\library.zip contains the only copy of the .pyc files, I get ZipImportError: can't decompress data; zlib not available (nonsense, considering W:\zlib.pyd IS available and works fine with the XP and higher machines on the same network). 2) If the .pyc files are actually bundled INSIDE the python exe by py2exe, OR put in the same directory as the .exe, OR put into a named subdirectory which is then set as part of the PYTHONPATH variable (e.g W:\pylib), I get ImportError: no module named os (os is the first module imported, before sys and anything else). Come to think of it, sys.path wouldn't be available to search if os was imported before it maybe? I'll try switching the order of those imports but my question still stands: Why is this a sporadic issue, working on some networks but not on others? And how would I force Python to find the files that are bundled inside the very executable I run? I have immediate access to the working Windows 98 SE machine, but I only get access to the non-working one (a customer of mine) every morning before their store opens. Thanks in advance! EDIT: Okay, big step forward. After debugging with PY2EXE_VERBOSE, the problem occurring on the specific W98SE machine is that it's not using the right path syntax when looking for imports. Firstly, it doesn't seem to read the PYTHONPATH environment variable (there may be a py2exe-specific one I'm not aware of, like PY2EXE_VERBOSE). Secondly, it only looks in one place before giving up (if the files are bundled inside the EXE, it looks there. If not, it looks in library.zip). EDIT 2: In fact, according to this, there is a difference between the sys.path in the Python interpreter and that of Py2exe executables. Specifically, sys.path contains only a single entry: the full pathname of the shared code archive. Blah. No fallbacks? Not even the current working directory? I'd try adding W:\ to PATH, but py2exe doesn't conform to any sort of standards for locating system libraries, so it won't work. Now for the interesting bit. The path it tries to load atexit, os, etc. from is: W:\\library.zip\<module>.<ext> Note the single slash after library.zip, but the double slash after the drive letter (someone correct me if this is intended and should work). It looks like if this is a string literal, then since the slash isn't doubled, it's read as an (invalid) escape sequence and the raw character is printed (giving W:\library.zipos.pyd, W:\library.zipos.dll, ... instead of with a slash); if it is NOT a string literal, the double slash might not be normpath'd automatically (as it should be) and so the double slash confuses the module loader. Like I said, I can't just set PYTHONPATH=W:\\library.zip\\ because it ignores that variable. It may be worth using sys.path.append at the start of my program but hard-coding module paths is an absolute LAST resort, especially since the problem occurs in ONE configuration of an outdated OS. Any ideas? I have one, which is to normpath the sys.path.. pity I need os for that. Another is to just append os.getenv('PATH') or os.getenv('PYTHONPATH') to sys.path... again, needing the os module. The site module also fails to initialise, so I can't use a .pth file. I also recently tried the following code at the start of the program: for pth in sys.path: fErr.write(pth) fErr.write(' to ') pth.replace('\\\\','\\') # Fix Windows 98 pathing issues fErr.write(pth) fErr.write('\n') But it can't load linecache.pyc, or anything else for that matter; it can't actually execute those commands from the looks of things. Is there any way to use built-in functionality which doesn't need linecache to modify the sys.path dynamically? Or am I reduced to hard-coding the correct sys.path?

  Hello, firstly I would like to thank you in advance for any assistance provided. I am new to software development and have designed several Client/Server applications over the last 12 months or so, I am currently working on a project that involves a user logging in to gain access to the application and I am looking at the most efficient and "simple" method of storing the users permissions once logged in to the application which can be used throughout restricting access to certain tabs on the main form. I have created a static class called "User" detailed below: static class User { public static int _userID; public static string _moduleName; public static string _userName; public static object[] UserData(object[] _dataRow) { _userID = (int)_dataRow[0]; _userName = (string)_dataRow[1]; _moduleName = (string)_dataRow[2]; return _moduleName; } } When the user logs in and they have been authenticated, I wish to store the _moduleName objects in memory so I can control which tabs on the main form tab control they can access, for example; if the user has been assigned the following roles in the database: "Sales Ledger", "Purchase Ledger" they can only see the relevant tabs on the form, by way of using a Switch - Case block once the login form is hidden and the main form is instantiated. • How can I get my Web API app to run again after upgrading to MVC 5 and Web API 2?

  I upgraded my Web API app to the funkelnagelneu versions using this guidance: http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-5/how-to-upgrade-an-aspnet-mvc-4-and-web-api-project-to-aspnet-mvc-5-and-web-api-2 However, after going through the steps (it seems all this should be automated, anyway), I tried to run it and got, "A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly" What in Sam Hills Brothers Coffee is going on here? Who said this was a class library? So I opened Project Properties, and changed it (it was marked as "Class Library" for some reason - it either wasn't yesterday, or was and worked fine) to an Output Type of "Windows Application" ("Console Application" and "Class Library" being the only other options). Now it won't compile, complaining: "*Program 'c:\Platypus_Server_WebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\obj\Debug\PlatypusServerWebAPI.exe' does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point...*" How can I get my Web API app back up and running in view of this quandary? UPDATE Looking in packages.config, two entries seem chin-scratch-worthy: <package id="Microsoft.AspNet.Providers" version="1.2" targetFramework="net40" /> <package id="Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure" version="1.0.0.0" targetFramework="net40" /> All the others target net451. Could this be the problem? Should I remove these packages? UPDATE 2 I tried to uninstall the Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure package (its description leads me to believe I don't need it; also, it has no dependencies) via the NuGet package manager, but it tells me, "NuGet failed to install or uninstall the selected package in the following project(s). [mine]" UPDATE 3 I went through the steps in again, and found that I had missed one step. I had to change this entry in the Application web.config File : <dependentAssembly> <assemblyIdentity name="System.Web.Mvc" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" /> <bindingRedirect oldVersion="1.0.0.0-5.0.0.0" newVersion="5.0.0.0" /> </dependentAssembly> (from "4.0.0.0" to "5.0.0.0") ...but I still get the same result - it rebuilds/compiles, but won't run, with "A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly" UPDATE 4 Thinking about the err msg, that it can't directly open a class library, I thought, "Sure you can't/won't -- this is a web app, not a project. So I followed a hunch, closed the project, and reopened it as a website (instead of reopening a project). That has gotten me further, at least; now I see a YSOD: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. UPDATE 5 Note: The project is now (after being opened as a web site) named "localhost_48614" And...there is no longer a "References" folder...?!?!? As to that YSOD I'm getting, the official instructions (http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-5/how-to-upgrade-an-aspnet-mvc-4-and-web-api-project-to-aspnet-mvc-5-and-web-api-2) said to do this, and I quote: "Update all elements that contain “System.Web.WebPages.Razor” from version “2.0.0.0” to version“3.0.0.0”." UPDATE 6 When I select Tools Library Package Manager Manage NuGet Packages for Solution now, I get, "Operation failed. Unable to locate the solution directory. Please ensure that the solution has been saved." So I save it, and it saves it with this funky new name (C:\Users\clay\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\localhost_48614\localhost_48614.sln) I get the Yellow Strip of Enlightenment across the top of the NuGet Package Manager telling me, "Some NuGet packages are missing from this solution. Click to restore from your online package sources." I do (click the "Restore" button, that is), and it downloads the missing packages ... I end up with the 30 packages. I try to run the app/site again, and ... the erstwhile YSOD becomes a compilation error: The pre-application start initialization method Start on type System.Web.Mvc.PreApplicationStartCode threw an exception with the following error message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.. Argghhhh!!! (and it's not even talk-like-a-pirate day).

• How do I correctly use Unity to pass a ConnectionString to my repository classes?

  I've literally just started using the Unity Application Blocks Dependency Injection library from Microsoft, and I've come unstuck. This is my IoC class that'll handle the instantiation of my concrete classes to their interface types (so I don't have to keep called Resolve on the IoC container each time I want a repository in my controller): public class IoC { public static void Intialise(UnityConfigurationSection section, string connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; _container = new UnityContainer(); section.Configure(_container); } private static IUnityContainer _container; private static string _connectionString; public static IMovementRepository MovementRepository { get { return _container.Resolve<IMovementRepository>(); } } } So, the idea is that from my Controller, I can just do the following: _repository = IoC.MovementRepository; I am currently getting the error: Exception is: InvalidOperationException - The type String cannot be constructed. You must configure the container to supply this value. Now, I'm assuming this is because my mapped concrete implementation requires a single string parameter for its constructor. The concrete class is as follows: public sealed class MovementRepository : Repository, IMovementRepository { public MovementRepository(string connectionString) : base(connectionString) { } } Which inherits from: public abstract class Repository { public Repository(string connectionString) { _connectionString = connectionString; } public virtual string ConnectionString { get { return _connectionString; } } private readonly string _connectionString; } Now, am I doing this the correct way? Should I not have a constructor in my concrete implementation of a loosely coupled type?   Hello. Im trying to build a simple XML to Controls parser in my CF application. In the code below the string im trying to parse looks like this: "<Panel><Label>Text1</Label><Label>Text2</Label></Panel>" The result i want with this code would be a Panel with two labels. But the problem is when the first Label is parsed the subreader.Read() returns false in the ParsePanelElementh method, and so it falls out of while statement. Since im new into XMLReader i must be missing something very simple. • Why won't my program terminate?

  I have a .NET Compact Framework app that can runs on three windows machines (Desktop windows and two WinCE machines) and on the WinCE devices, the process never terminates on exit, even if I call Application.Exit(). Besides .NET, it uses one COM component (which does everything on the UI thread). If I break into the debugger after exitting, Visual Studio shows only one thread and a completely blank call stack. What could possibly cause this? Update: My process is terminating on the desktop but not the WinCE machines. I tried to force the process to terminate with the following code, but it doesn't work: [DllImport("coredll.dll")] static extern int TerminateProcess(IntPtr hProcess, uint uExitCode); static public void ExitProcess() { if (Platform.IsWindowsCE) TerminateProcess(new IntPtr(-1), 0); Application.Exit(); } There are also supposed to be ExitProcess() and GetCurrentProcess() APIs like the following, but if I try to call them, I get EntryPointNotFoundException.   Hi, I've managed to compile a dll with the necessary linked libraries (*.lib) and with CURL_STATICLIB set in the preprocessor section among other settings. I'm using "libcurl-7.19.3-win32-ssl-msvc.zip" package and compiling with VS 2008 express. This has been the first version I managed to get compiled properly with no link issues etc. The problem I have now is that my dll needs libcurl.dll to function and this is not ok. My dll needs to be independent. I have no idea how to implement this. I've taken all day just to get what I've got compiled. I've got runtime library set to Multi threaded dll (debug/release) respectively under C/C++ - code generation. I've a number of preprocessor set - CURL_STATICLIB being one of them. Configuration Type is set to Dynamic Library Use of MFC is set to Use MFC in a static library Additional Library Directories is set to the lib folders (debug/release) respectively. I've noticed there is a curllib_static.lib file which I've tried instead of curllib.lib as an additional dependency but it only compiles with the later. This is driving me nuts! So I guess I need some guidance as to how to make my dll completely static so it doesn't have any dependencies. I notice my dll is currently dependent on: CURLLIB.DLL MSVCR90D.DLL As I'm pretty new to C++ it could be a setting I'm missing in VS 2008 but I'm not sure. One person said I should be using a static library with *.a files (libcurl.a) etc but when I do this I get link errors which I haven't been able to resolve. Any guidance here would be much appreciated.

  I have a C# Windows Forms project open with some C# code in it. Question: How can I have an F# file that I can write F# code in but still referencing all the C# code I have on Form1.cs (including the GUI). I can successfully do this: - Create a C# Windows Forms project - Create a F# Library project - Reference the F# Library DLL from my C# project - That way I can call F# functions from C# But I still can't see my buttons and textboxes from F# I understand that that is because it's a library and it can't reference System.Windows.Forms So how do I fix this? I don't want it to be a library or this or that, I just want it to be a file that will allow me to write F# code while being able to reference my C# Form and code. I guess you can say I want an F# file that is also a "partial class Form1" so that I can continue writing code for the same Project, but using F# instead. How do I do that?

  Hi I'm new to both winsock and bluetooth programming. I need to develop a bluetooth service to run on a pc. Looking at the MSDN library they say to use WSASetService(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa362921%28VS.85%29.aspx) function to publish a service. The problem is that the WSAQUERYSET(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa362920%28VS.85%29.aspx) structure, that has to be passed to WSASetService, needs a binary SDP record and i don't know how to get it. In the Windows embedded section of the MSDN library they describe a procedure to obtain an SDP record using Bthnscreate. I installed Windows CE 6 to use this tool but i can't find it in the install directory nor in the entire system. How can i get an SDP record? Thanks!

  I'm trying to illustrate the difference in performance between traditional IO and memory mapped files in java to students. I found an example somewhere on internet but not everything is clear to me, I don't even think all steps are nececery. I read a lot about it here and there but I'm not convinced about a correct implementation of neither of them. Here it is used to read and write in the memoryMappedCopy, is it actually nececary just to copy a file at all? Or is it a part of memorry mapping? In customBufferedCopy, why is synchronized used here? And as a read/write test, to me it looks a bit pointless to read the same integer over and over (if I understand well what's going on in the Stream Read/Write) Wouldn't it be better to read int's from the previously written file and just read and write ints on the same place? Is there a better way to illustrate it? I've been breaking my head about a lot of these things for a while and I just can't get the whole picture..

• Can one use polygon() or equivalent in lattice and ggplot2 plots?

  Is it possible to annotate lattice (or ggplot2) figures with elements created with polygon() (or elements created with a similar function) from the graphics library? I'm not too familiar with either library beyond examples of simple graphs posted on the web and printed in Deepayan Sarkar's book. Therefore, while I have code for what I've been doing in R with the graphics library, pointing me to relevant, equivalent functions and usage examples for lattice or ggplot2 specifically would be appreciated.
