  • How to replace the char '[' etc with '\[' using "sed" in a file ?

    I have a file say "file.txt" with following contents: Capsule arr**[**0**]** in state A rate_ul/dl=**(**2000000/7000000**)** Capsule RBx**[**0**]** in state ... ... using sed operator how can i replace all occurences of '[' with '[', '(' with '(', ']' with ']' and so on. Capsule arr**\[**0**\]** in state A rate_ul/dl=**\(**2000000/7000000**\)** Capsule RBx**\[**0**\]** in state ... ... Using the substitue operator in "gvim" I am able to achieve the same result. ie. if i use ":1,$ s/\[/\\[/g" in the vi editor in command mode I see all the '[' chars replaced with '['. However if I try to use the same substitue command in a shell script using a sed command, i am not able to achieve the same result. ie If i use the following command in a shell script I am not able to achieve the desired result: sed "s/\[/\\[/g" $temp_file2 > $temp_file1 where $temp_file2 conatins the lines with '[' characters and $temp_file1 should contain the replaced '\[' chars

  • Dispatcher.CheckAccess() isn't working from my console application, is there a better way.

    I wrote an application in WPF / VB and separated the business logic and UI into different projects. The business layer uses a serial port which runs on a different thread, Now that I'm trying to write a command line interface for the same business layer, it seems to fail when .Invoke() is called. (no error, just doesn't work) I'm pretty sure the reason I had to add in checkaccess and .invoke was because I have collections that would be changed during processing the serial port data and wanted the NotifyCollectionChanged to be handled by WPF data binding. (The reason I'm not 100% sure is because it was months ago I wrote that part and it all worked great from the GUI, now adding the console app has made me rethink some of this) I would like my business layer to run these processes on the thread they were created, I need this to work from both my GUI version and the command line version. Am I misusing the Dispatcher in my business layer? Is there a better way to handle an event from the serial port, and then return to the main thread to processes the data?

    Hi, I'm trying to write a shell script to backup websites, I've got it to go through each directory in vhosts and create a new directory vhosts/{siteurl}/private/backups/ and gzip up the site into there. However, I also want it to read a file from private that will contain database name, user and password. So I can then use these to perform a mysqldump to private/backups/. The problem is that I've never written a shell script before so I've go no idea how to read variable data into my script, or how I should format the file to be read. Hope that's enough information.

    I can't install pygraphviz on Windows XP. I'm using Python27. Before to launch the setup I've changet these two variables of the setup.py file library_path="C:\\Archivos de programa\\Graphviz 2.28\\bin" include_path="C:\\Archivos de programa\\Graphviz 2.28\\include\\graphviz" Then I've launched the setup. I'm using mingw32 as a compiler. I don't know what can I do now.     I have a very simple controller set up: class LibrariesController < ApplicationController ... def create @user.libraries << Library.new(params) @user.save render :json => "success!" end ... end Basically, whenever I try to access the create method of LibrariesController using HTTParty.post I get a WEBrick::HTTPStatus::LengthRequired error on the server. The method is not even being accessed!     I need help getting git extensions to run with msysgit. I have had bad luck with extensions git-tfs and git-fetchall, in both cases it is the same problem. The addon will require a file to be placed where git can find it (git-tfs.exe and git-fetchall.sh). I understand this to mean the files need to be in a directory that is in the 'PATH' environment variable. In both cases I get stuck at this point: $ git-diffall bash: git-diffall: command not found or: $ git-tfs bash: git-tfs: command not found When I run echo %PATH% from a regular command shell, it shows my path variable includes the directories where git-diffall and git-tfs are. How can I debug this, or am I missing something? Is there a way within msysgit to verify the command search path is what I expect?

    I'm trying to retrieve the weather from wunderground.com through their API, and store it in wincache. For testing purposes I made this function in the News model: public function updateWeather(){ $results = file_get_contents('http://api.wunderground.com/api/**api_key**/conditions/q/CA/Montreal.json'); $results = json_decode($results); return Cache::write('weather', $results); } It works fine when I call this from the controller. However, I can't figure why that same function doesn't work when called from the console. I made this shell in order to eventually add this to windows task scheduler. class WeatherShell extends AppShell { public $uses = array('News'); public function main() { $this->News->updateWeather(); } } When running this, I see that $results is correctly populated. I get 'true' from Cache::write(), however, I get 'false' when trying to read. What subtlety am I missing?

    Just now I found that static libraries in *nix systems, in other words *.a libraries are nothing but archives of relocatables(*.o files) in ar fromat. What about static libraries(*.lib files) in windows? Which format are they in? I found an article: http://www.microsoft.com/msj/0498/hood0498.aspx which explains *.lib file structure. But Where can I find "Official" specifications of *.lib file structure/format? Other than ar.exe of mingw is there any tool from Microsoft which extracts relocatable objects of *.lib & *.a files? EDIT: I wonder why I'm unable to get to this question. If there are no official specifications. Then how does the compiler ('linker' to be more correct) writers work with *.LIB files?

For example, if you paste [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] in a Windows Explorer in Vista it takes you to ["C:\Users\Public\Desktop"]. My question is this; how do I reproduce this behavior from withing a C# program? To be more specific, if I retrieve the registry value [%PUBLIC%\Desktop] from withing a C# program, which I can do easily, how do I convert it to ["C:\Users\Public\Desktop"]? Obviously I'm not looking for a string replacement, I need to do what Windows does.

    Hello. I have a tab delimited file with 5 columns and need to retrieve a count of just the number of unique lines from column 2. I would normally do this with Perl/Python but I am forced to use the shell for this one. I have successfully in the past used *nix uniq function piped to wc but it looks like I am going to have to use awk in here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.     I've done something to break my Bash Shell Prompt in OS X (10.5.7) Terminal. This is the PS1 that I had configured: PS1='\[\e[1;32m\]\h\[\e[0m\]:\[\e[1;34m\]\w\[\e[0m\]\$ ' As far as I can tell I have the color commands escaping correctly. However when I scroll up and down in my command history I often get line wrapping issues if the historic commands wrap onto multiple lines. I simplified my prompts to the following: PS1='\[\e[1m\]\h:\w\$ \[\e[0m\]' PS2='> ' And I still see something like: localhost:~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/knpmxpup.Defau lt/extensions/{1A2D0EC4-75F5-4c91-89C4-3656F6E44B68}$ expocd \{1A2D0EC4-7 5F5-4c91-89C4-3656F6E export PS1="\[ \e[1;32m\]\h\[\e[0m\]: cd Library/Appl ication\ Support/ I've also tried \033 instead of \e. I just included PS2 up there for information, I haven't changed that from the install default. If I completely remove the color codes then everything works fine, any ideas?
