• How to get the selected index of a dropdowlist with javascript

  I have a table with several @Html.dropdowlistfor in it. I was trying to read the selected value of using javascript, but all read is the html generated. • Only Execute Code on Certain Requests Java

  I am building a little API for class and the teacher supplied us with a link to a tutorial that provided a simple webserver that implements Runnable. I have already written some code that will parse arguments the arguments ( or at least get me the request string ) and some code that will return some simple xml. however I think certain requests like the one for the favicon are sent I think it is messing up my code. • A lot of connections to port 6881 - some new attacks or what ?

  Ok so i am the admin of a small network with a web server and only the web server has a direct connection to the internet, the rest of the network are connecting through another place. I was inspecting the traffic on the server with tcpdump, and i found a LOT of connections from different IP addresses to port 6881. All ports on my machine are blocked except those who are really needed for a web server (like port 80), so i checked it out and confirmed that 6881 and the rest ports are in filtered(firewalled) state. Why all those ips are continuously trying to make connection to the server on port 6881 no matter it's not open at all ? Is this some new kind of attack or maybe there's some new exploit (maybe 0day?) for some service running on 6881 ? AFAIK on 6881 operate the bittorrent and similar, so really, what's the deal ? It would be nice if someone clarifies me some things.

• Integrating WIF with WCF Data Services

  A time ago I discussed how a custom REST Starter kit interceptor could be used to parse a SAML token in the Http Authorization header and wrap that into a ClaimsPrincipal that the WCF services could use. The thing is that code was initially created for Geneva framework, so it got deprecated quickly. I recently needed that piece of code for one of projects where I am currently working on so I decided to update it for WIF. As this interceptor can be injected in any host for WCF REST services, also represents an excellent solution for integrating claim-based security into WCF Data Services (previously known as ADO.NET Data Services). The interceptor basically expects a SAML token in the Authorization header. However, the service is not affected at all if you replace it with a custom one as I am doing in the code above (WebServiceHost2 is part of the REST Starter kit). Finally, the client application needs to pass the SAML token somehow to the data service. In case you are using any Http client library for consuming the data service, that’s easy to do, you only need to include the SAML token as part of the “Authorization” header. If you are using the auto-generated data service proxy, a little piece of code is needed to inject a SAML token into the DataServiceContext instance. That class provides an event “SendingRequest” that any client application can leverage to include custom code that modified the Http request before it is sent to the service. Now, what if I told you, you could integrate those, and the power of the bing geocoding api, AND, the bing search engine, AND routing capabilities, all on a silverlight map, and throw in the Yahoo geocoding api over a REST interface, all running inside SharePoint? No seriously! I am not joking! In this video, I demonstrate exactly the above, all integrated and running happily inside of SharePoint 2010. Note that you can also make this work in SharePoint 2007. I used the Telerik Silverlight Controls to make all this happen. And as always, only about 2% of the video is slides, all of the rest is all hands-on code. • Accessing Server-Side Data from Client Script: Using Ajax Web Services, Script References, and jQuery

  Today's websites commonly exchange information between the browser and the web server using Ajax techniques. In a nutshell, the browser executes JavaScript code typically in response to the page loading or some user action. This JavaScript makes an asynchronous HTTP request to the server. The server processes this request and, perhaps, returns data that the browser can then seamlessly integrate into the web page. Typically, the information exchanged between the browser and server is serialized into JSON, an open, text-based serialization format that is both human-readable and platform independent. Adding such targeted, lightweight Ajax capabilities to your ASP.NET website requires two steps: first, you must create some mechanism on the server that accepts requests from client-side script and returns a JSON payload in response; second, you need to write JavaScript in your ASP.NET page to make an HTTP request to this service you created and to work with the returned results. This article series examines a variety of techniques for implementing such scenarios. In Part 1 we used an ASP.NET page and the JavaScriptSerializer class to create a server-side service. This service was called from the browser using the free, open-source jQuery JavaScript library. • Work Item Visualizer for TFS 2010 - New Extension

  I released another new extension to the Visual Studio Gallery again today called Work Item Visualizer for TFS 2010. I've only heard positive things about it so far, hopefully it stays that way :) Basically, it creates a diagram of all work items linked to a work item ID which the user specifies in a search box. This extension was coded using DGML (the same graph rendering language used for the Visual Studio 2010 Architecture Tools). It was pretty cool getting a chance to create something using some of the newest technology out there. Well, I just wanted to throw a blog up to get the word out on it a little more. • What are the best ways to cope with «one of those days»? [closed]

  I work in a fast-paced startup and am absolutely in love with what I do. Still, I wake up to a bad mood as often as the next guy. I find that forcing myself to play out my day as usual doesn't help — in fact, it only makes it worse, possibly ruining my productivity for the rest of the week. There are several ways I can cope with this, for instance: dropping the current task for the day and getting that awesome but low-priority feature in place; doing some pending research for future development (i.e. digging up ruby gems); spending the day reading and educating myself; just taking the day off. The first three items are productive in themselves, and taking the day off recharges my coding mana for the rest of the week. Being a young developer, I'm pretty sure there's a multitude of alternatives that I haven't come across yet. How can programmers cope with off days? Edit: I am looking for answers related specifically to this profession. I therefore believe that coping with off days in our field is fundamentally different that doing so in other areas. Programmers (especially in a start-up) are a unique breed in this context in the sense that they tend to have a multitude of tasks at hand on any given moment, so they can easily switch between these without wreaking too much havoc. Programmers also tend to work based on clear, concise objectives — provided they are well managed either by themselves or a third party — and hence have a great deal of flexibility when it comes to managing their time. Finally, our line of work creates the opportunity — necessity, if you will — to fit a plethora of tasks not directly related to the current one, such as research and staying on top of new releases and software updates.

R12.x Install/Patch/Maintain Oracle E-Business Suite This course will be applicable for customers who have implemented Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 or Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1. This course explains how to go about installing and maintaining an Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.x system. Both Standard and Express installation types are covered in detail. Maintenance topics include a detailed examination of the standard tools and utilities, and an in-depth look at patching an Oracle E-Business Suite system. After this course, students will be able to make informed decisions about how to install an Oracle E-Business Suite system that meets their specific requirements, and how to maintain the system afterwards. R12.x Extend Oracle Applications: Building OA Framework Applications This class is a hands-on lab-intensive course that will keep the student busy and active for the duration of the course. While the course covers the fundamentals that support OA Framework-based applications, the course is really an exercise in J2EE programming. Over the duration of the course, the student will create an OA Framework-based application that selects, inserts, updates, and deletes data from a R12 Oracle Applications instance. 4. R12.x Extend Oracle Applications: Customizing OA Framework Applications This course has been significantly changed from the prior version to include additional deployments. The course doesn't teach the specifics of configuration of each product. That is left to the product-specific courses. What the course does cover is the general methods of building, personalizing, and extending OA Framework-based pages within the E-Business Suite. Additionally, the course covers the methods to deploy those types of customizations. The course doesn't include discussion of the Oracle Forms-based pages within the E-Business Suite. 5. R12.x Extend Oracle Applications: OA Framework Personalizations Personalization is the ability within an E-Business Suite instance to make changes to the look and behavior of OA Framework-based pages without programming. And, personalizations are likely to survive patches and upgrades, increasing their utility. This course will systematically walk you through the myriad of personalization options, starting with simple examples and increasing in complexity from there. 6. E-Business Suite: BI Publisher 5.6.3 for Developers Starting with the basic concepts, architecture, and underlying standards of Oracle XML Publisher, this course will lead a student through a progress of exercises building their expertise. By the end of the course, the student should be able to create Oracle XML Publisher RTF templates and data templates. They should also be able to deploy and maintain a BI Publisher report in an E-Business Suite instance. Students will also be introduced to Oracle BI Publisher Enterprise. 7. R12.x Implement Oracle Workflow This course provides an overview of the architecture and features of Oracle Workflow and the benefits of using Oracle Workflow in an e-business environment. You can learn how to design workflow processes to automate and streamline business processes, and how to define event subscriptions to perform processing triggered by business events. Students also learn how to respond to workflow notifications, how to administer and monitor workflow processes, and what setup steps are required for Oracle Workflow. • Twitter status id conundrum

  I have an interest, a slightly perverse one some might say, in using online services and trying to figure out what the underlying (logical) data model is and in this day and age Twitter is one that lends itself very well to scrutiny. Consider this recent tweet of mine: The URL that enables you to see that tweet is http://twitter.com/jamiet/status/12154647354. We can interpret that URL to mean "a tweet by jamiet with an id of 12154647354" and hence we might further assume that the unique identifier for the tweet is {jamiet,12154647354}. However, its well-known that Twitter gives each status a unique ID regardless of who tweeted it so we might expect we could reach that tweet just by using a URL of http://twitter.com/status/12154647354 however (at the time of writing) that only redirects to Twitter's homepage. That seems strange to me especially given that we can use Twitter's API to access information about that tweet using only the id of the status. Witness http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/show/12154647354.xml: [We can also access a JSON version of that information using http://api.twitter.com/1/statuses/show/12154647354.json] I'm puzzled as to why a tweet can't be accessed using on the main twitter website using the id alone. • When I try to click and launch some of the links set to open in new window, it is being treated as a pop-up window [migrated]

  For the past few days, we are facing issue with the chrome browser behavior. This is related to opening links set to open in new tab/window. The details are as follow: I have a collection of links and each link points to different resource to be opened in a new tab/window. The code is as follow: <a class="cssClass" rid="1114931" href="http://www.domain.com/resources/abc.html" title="Link1" tabindex="4">Link 1</a> And there are few checks/filters over accessing the resources which have been implemented as onClick handler over the links. In case any of the validations fails, the onClick handler returns false and the default behavior of the link does not happens i.e. links does not get open. One of such (last) checks includes AJAX call in sync mode. In case all of the checks are passed and onClick handler returns true, sometimes the resource get opened in a new tab/window and sometimes it get opened as a pop-up (which should never). Tried to capture any pattern but could not succeed. Any solution or even helping in understanding behavior would be really appreciated.
