I have IPcop 1.4.20 server running in my office. It seems that the Ipcop slows down my connection bandwith as it's upto set speed with direct connection to my pc.... Please help me out.....
Ok sorry if this is the most basic question in the world but for years I have needed more ethernet ports in my room and my whole house is wired with 1 ethernet port in each room, I also wanted to be able to plug into the room ethernet port with another router to get more plugins and that wasn't possibe I don't think. So can you plug a switch into this and have more ports with just as much speed?
Hi, all.
I've noticed that my home broadband speed seems to be a bit slow in recent days. I noticed, last night, that my Wireless Router had given a DHCP lease to a public IP address with an odd formation; something like 111.10.11.110.
Should I consider these warning sings of my ZyXEL router being compromised in some way?
Thanks,

Hi,
Is there a way to load an entire MySQL database to the RAM, especially on en EC2 server?
The database is quite small (~500 MegaBytes)
I have enough memory
Speed issues are crucial - the resulted queries are used to serve a dynamic webpage.

Outlook 2007 is slow to load messages...Why is this, and what can I do to speed it up?
Currently have about 850 messages in the Inbox folder, and the preview pane turned off, thus I view messages by double-clicking. This is where it gets slow, when I double click, it brings up a new window with everything but the actual message loaded, which then takes several more seconds to appear.
Solutions?
Thanks!

I've got an EEE Netbook with Intel Atom processor and Win XP.
Probably 90% of the time I'm using it for webbrowsing and thinking of dual booting it in Linux and then booting into Windows only when I need to...if it would speed things up.
I've tried using FF and Chrome, both are about equally slow on the netbook.
Anyone have any idea of the comparative stats on this?

I am currently working abroad and use my company's VPN for FTP and some browsing. This is a relatively slow connection and while it is suitable for those VPN necessities; much of my other internet usage can be done without the VPN at a much higher speed.
Is there a way to tell Safari and my FTP software to use the VPN and for all other connections to go directly to the internet.
I am currently using OSX's Network Prefs for running my VPN connection.

Hi i have wireless mouse and keyboard connected to pc with USB receiver.
When i downloading something without limiting download speed, mouse and keyboard keep freezing randomly.

Keyboard : Microsoft keyboard 3000 v2
Chipset : Intel HM65
Processor : Intel Core i7 2670QM @ 2200MHz
Physical Memory : 8192MB (2 x 4096 DDR3-SDRAM)

Hi,
We have fiber optic internet coming to our office soon, and i would like to know if it would be worth installing fiber NIC's in our servers and machines instead of using cat6 gigabit.
Here is the layout:
(fiber) cable from distribution point in basement - fiber optic modem - Network gateway (debian lenny) - network computers and servers
I was wondering if it would be worth installing a fiber connection from the modem to the gateway and the network clients. Will the costs be worth it in terms of speed, latency and stability?
Thanks,
RayQuang
If I log into a slow VPN with only a 15k/s connection, when I try to go to kernel.org or some other site to download something, is everything getting routed through that other network? (so my max speed for all downloads is 15k/s?) Or are only the DNS requests getting routed and I can still get my normal download speeds I would have been able to before logging into the router?
When downloading or uploading large files I notice a big decrease in speed when just surfing the web. Is there anyway to give HTTP requests priority on the Airport Extreme?
I know the AE doesnt have QoS so is there anything else I can do?

I have a wifi router which was attached with my modem, and the pc was connected to the wifi router through an ethernet cable. Yesterday I moved my modem and router to another room and connected my PC with wifi through an external wifi usb dongle (tp-link tl-w722n). I noticed that the file transfer speed from my cell to PC via wifi is greatly affected. I am not clear why is this happening because although PC is now connected through wifi but the dongle supports more than 54Mbps which is still enough.

Is it possible to continue torrent downloads on other computer?
I'm at about 38% of the 8Gb file that I'm downloading. And then my isp suddenly dropped my speed from 90-100kbps into 40-48kbps(Maybe because I'm really producing lots of traffic with the 8 hrs/day downloading)
If its possible what do I need to do in order for the downloads to be continued on other computer
I'm thinking of using ZFS for my home-made NAS array. I would have 4 HDDs in raidz on a Ubuntu Server 10.04 machine.
I'd like to use the snapshot capability and dedup when storing data. I'm not so much concerned about the speed, since the machine is accessed via N wireless network and that is probably going to be the bottleneck.
So does anyone have any practical experience with zfs-fuse 0.6.9 on such (or simillar) configuration?
At work I have a SuSE 7.3 running Apache 1.3.20, which I don't have admin access to. I'd like to deploy Ruby on Rails with no or very little work for the admins.
I need the service to keep running all the time, even if the server is rebooted, I need it to run faster than CGI-Speed and I'd like to have a simple domain without ports.
What are my options?
I have a unique need: I am frequently searching a large set of text files for a keyword.
Right now, I open up Notepad++ and use the "Find in files" feature. It works just fine, but with the amount of files, each search takes several minutes to complete.
Is there a good program more suited for this purpose, perhaps that indexes a set of files and then lets you search the set repeatedly and very quickly? It would greatly speed up my workflow.
Machine A, Windows Server 2003. Machine B, Ubuntu 9.04.
Aim is to copy new and updated files as fast as possible from A to B. B can mount A either as CIFS or NFS (Services for Unix NFS server running on A). This is an absolutely time critical operation.
What is the best way of achieving this?
Note: benchmarked NFS vs CIFS and CIFS was faster and there was less variance in the speed (haven't tuned the NFS setup at all)
Anyone familiar with options for transmitting data in Russia? I'd be interested in hearing about low-speed packet data and faster. Not really looking at VSAT initially as I'd like to keep the power requirements low unless we find no other options.
Is there anyway to clone partition to partition in windows 7 for free using some kind of command line tool so that i can set block size to increase speed
i google and found some tools like dd for windows and dcfldd
but when i use them it gives me error like access denied and permission denied

I got a new laptop with 4GBs of ram, expandable to 8GBs. It has 1 4GB stick DDR3 PC3-12800 at 1600Mhz. I can't seem to find another one exactly the same locally, the closest I've found is 1 4GB stick DDR3 PC3-10600 at 1333Mhz. So my question is, I know they will both run at the slowest speed, so even if I have more available RAM it will become slower. Is the performance loss big enough to make the upgrade not worth the hassle?
I recently increased my blink broadband speed and now my Ares is not connecting. I spoke to the blink peeps and they deactivated my firewall..but Ares still is not working. What do i do?
I need help creating floating rules in pfSense for the following:
I have two upper limited download queues qWAN1 and qWAN2 on my LAN interface. Each has its own qACK1, qDefault1 etc. How do I assign all unclassified traffic from WAN1 to LAN->qWAN1->qDefault1 and from WAN2 to LAN->qWAN2->qDefault2.
qLink is the one and only default queue on LAN so that I get wire speed to the pfSense host from the LAN.
