  • How is location accuracy measured in Android?

    Does anyone know the proper interpretation of the accuracy measurements returned by getAccuracy()? For instance, are they calculated as: Circular Error Probability (meaning, if i understand correctly, radius of a 50% confidence circle)? Radius of 95% confidence circle? something else?     This is probably pretty simple, but here: Say I've got two models, Thing and Tag class Thing < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :tags end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :things end And I have an instance of each. I want to link them. Can I do something like: @thing = Thing.find(1) @tag = Tag.find(1) @thing.tags.add(@tag) If not, what is the best way to do this? Thanks!

  • How to subtract dates in YYYYMMDD format?

    I have 2 integer fields that represent dates in the YYYYMMDD format. What is the best way to subtract 2 of these fields to get the correct # of days between them? For instance, if I take the difference between 20100511 and 20100428 I would like the result to be 13 and not 83. I know I need to convert the integer fields into date formats but everything I have tried either throws an exception or doesn't work correctly. What am I missing? Answers in vb.net please

  • Java: file write on finalize method

    In my understanding a singleton object will destroy only when the application is about to terminate. So in C++ I write a Singleton class to log my application and in that Singleton logger's destructor I log the time when my application was terminated. Things worked perfectly in C++. Now I want to have that same logger in Java, as in java there is no destructor so I implemented the finalize method for that singleton logger. But it seem that finalize method actually never get called. So, I add that System.runFinalizersOnExit(true); line, somewhere in my code (though I know it is deprecated) and that finalize method get called every time before termination of the app. But still there is a problem! If I try to write anything on file in that finalize method, It does not work, though System.out work without any problem! :( Can you guys help me on this problem?     I'm about ready to bang my head against the wall I have a class called Map which has a dictionary called tiles. class Map { public Dictionary<Location, Tile> tiles = new Dictionary<Location, Tile>(); public Size mapSize; public Map(Size size) { this.mapSize = size; } //etc... I fill this dictionary temporarily to test some things.. public void FillTemp(Dictionary<int, Item> itemInfo) { Random r = new Random(); for(int i =0; i < mapSize.Width; i++) { for(int j=0; j<mapSize.Height; j++) { Location temp = new Location(i, j, 0); int rint = r.Next(0, (itemInfo.Count - 1)); Tile t = new Tile(new Item(rint, rint)); tiles[temp] = t; } } } and in my main program code Map m = new Map(10, 10); m.FillTemp(iInfo); Tile t = m.GetTile(new Location(2, 2, 0)); //The problem line now, if I add a breakpoint in my code, I can clearly see that my instance (m) of the map class is filled with pairs via the function above, but when I try to access a value with the GetTile function: public Tile GetTile(Location location) { if(this.tiles.ContainsKey(location)) { return this.tiles[location]; } else { return null; } } it ALWAYS returns null. Again, if I view inside the Map object and find the Location key where x=2,y=2,z=0 , I clearly see the value being a Tile that FillTemp generated.. Why is it doing this? I've had no problems with a Dictionary such as this so far. I have no idea why it's returning null. and again, when debugging, I can CLEARLY see that the Map instance contains the Location key it says it does not... very frustrating. Any clues? Need any more info? Help would be greatly appreciated :)

    it works fine on 64 bit machines but for some reason will not work on python 2.4.3 on a 32-bit instance. i get the error 'utf8' codec can't decode bytes in position 76-79: invalid data for the code try: str(sourceresult.sourcename).encode('utf8','replace') except: raise Exception( repr(sourceresult.sourcename ) ) it returns 'kazamidori blog\xf9' i have modified my site.py file to make UTF8 the default encoding, but still doesnt seem to be working.

    Is is possible to write a browser plugin (one that requires the user to install something is OK) that would allow interprocess communication between the browser and a running instance of Excel (on Windows)? For example, suppose I want the user to be able to click something within their browser, and then have a piece of text drop into the selected cell in Excel as a result. This is certainly possible to do with a regular desktop application and Excel, but I'm not sure if it is possible with a browser, for security reasons.

For instance, if I want to limit a host in the DMZ to access only one particular web service, but that web service might be globally load balanced or using DynDNS or cloud, how can the ACL be expressed so that a fixed IP address isn't used and the admin doesn't have to keep opening and closing down IP addresses?

    hi, in a ModelForm I replaced a field by excluding it and adding a new one with the same name, as shown below in AddRestaurantForm. When saving the form with the code shown below, I get an error in form.save_m2m() ("Truncated incorrect DOUBLE value"), which seems to be due to the function to attempt to save the tag field, while it is excluded. Is the save_m2m() function supposed to save excluded fields? Is there anything wrong in my code?     I am trying to send a HTTP PUT (in order to create a new cache and populate it with my generated JSON) to ehCache using my webservice which is on the same local tomcat instance. Am new to RESTful Web Services and am using JDK 1.6, Tomcat 7, ehCache, and JSON.
