    I am trying to get Profile properties in the code behind. But I am not getting any intellisence like Profile.Homephone or Profile.CellPhone. When I try Dim memberprofile As ProfileBase = HttpContext.Current.Profile Dim homePhone As String = memberprofile.GetPropertyValue("HomePhone").ToString() I get Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values error. I have data for current user in the profile Table.     I have a couple of UISwitch elements in a view controller that is presented modally in my iPhone app. I set up the view in IB. I want these UISwitch elements to reflect the current values in my [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] where I store the appropriate BOOLs. I thought this would do the trick setting the switches to the right state, but no: -(void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; [backgroundSwitch setOn:[defaults boolForKey:kTrackInBackgroundKey] animated:NO]; [batterySaveSwitch setOn:[defaults boolForKey:kBatterySaveKey] animated:NO]; } The backgroundSwitch and batterySaveSwitch are declared as properties for the view controller class. They are not initialized; that does not seem to make a difference. I did check the values coming out of the NSUserDefaults dictionary. The method is being called at the right time.

    I am working with ASP.NET MVC2 RC and can't figure out how to get the HTML helper, TextBoxfor to work with a ViewModel pattern. When used on an edit page the data is not saved when UpdateModel() is called in the controller. I have taken the following code examples from the NerdDinner application.   • How to improve designer and developer work flow?

    I work in a small startup with two front end developers and one designer. Currently the process starts with the designer sending a png file with the whole page design and assets if needed. My task as front end developer is to convert it to a HTML/CSS page. My work flow currently looks like this: Lay out the distinct parts using html elements. Style each element very roughly (floats, minimal fonts and padding) so I can modify it using inspection. Using Chrome Developer Tools (inspect) add/change css attributes while updating the css file. Refresh the page after X amount of changes Use Pixel Perfect to refine the design more. Sit with the designer to make last adjustments. Inferring the paddings, margins, font sizes using trial and error takes a lot of time and I feel the process could become more efficient but not sure how to improve it. Using PSD files is not an option since buying Photoshop for each developer is currently not considered. Design guide is also not available since design is still evolving and new features are introduced. Ideas for improving the process above and sharing how the process looks like in your company will be great.

  • Multiple sites with the same codebase in Python

    I am trying to run a large amount of sites which share about 90% of their code. They are simply designed to query an API and return the results. They will have a common userbase / database but will be configured slightly different and will have different CSS (perhaps even different templating). My initial idea was to run them as separate applications with a common library but I have read about the sites framework which would allow them to run from a single instance of Django which may help to reduce memory usage. https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/sites/ Is the site framework the right approach to a problem like this, and does it have real benefits over running separate applications? Initially I thought it was, but now I think otherwise. I have heard the following: Your SITE_ID is set in settings.py, so in order to have multiple sites, you need multiple settings.py configurations, which means multiple distinct processes/instances. You can of course share the code base between them, but each site will need a dedicated worker / WSGIDaemon to serve the site. This effectively removes any benefit of running multiple sites under one hood, if each site needs a UWSGI instance running. Alternative ideas of systems: https://github.com/iivvoo/django_layers https://github.com/shestera/django-multisite I don't know what route to be taking with this.

  • Can Microsoft store three-valued fields in a single bit?

    I'm completely ignorant of SQL/databases, but I was chatting with a friend who does a lot of database work about how some databases use a "boolean" field that can take a value of NULL in addition to true and false. Regarding this, he made a comment along these lines: "To Microsoft's credit, they have never referred to that kind of field as a boolean, they just call it a bit. And it's a true bit - if you have eight or fewer bit fields in a record, it only requires one byte to store them all." Naturally that seems impossible to me - if the field can hold three values you're not going to fit eight of them into a byte. My friend agreed that it seemed odd, but begged ignorance of the low-level internals and said that so far as he knew, such fields can hold three values when viewed from the SQL side, and it does work out to require a byte of storage. I imagine one of us has a wire crossed. Can anyone explain what's really going on here?

    I have two text files that contain columnar data of the variety position-value. Here is an example of the first file (file A): 100 1 101 1 102 0 103 2 104 1 ... Here is an example of the second file (B): 20 0 21 0 ... 100 2 101 1 192 3 193 1 ... Instead of reading one of the two files into a hash table, which is prohibitive due to memory constraints, what I would like to do is walk through two files simultaneously, in a stepwise fashion. What this means is that I would like to stream through lines of either A or B and compare position values. If the two positions are equal, then I perform a calculation on the values associated with that position. Otherwise, if the positions are not equal, I move through lines of file A or file B until the positions are equal (when I again perform my calculation) or I reach EOF of both files. Is there a way to do this in Perl?

  • sql server 2005 indexes and low cardinality

    How does SQL Server determine whether a table column has low cardinality? The reason I ask is because query optimizer would most probably not use an index on a gender column (values 'm' and 'f'). However how would it determine the cardinality of the gender column to come to that decision? On top of this, if in the unlikely event that I had a million entries in my table and only one entry in the gender column was 'm', would SQL server be able to determine this and use the index to retrieve that single row? Or would it just know there are only 2 distinct values in the column and not use the index? I appreciate the above discusses some poor db design, but I'm just trying to understand how query optimizer comes to its decisions. Many thanks.

    Hey folks I've deployed an ASP.NET MVC app on IIS7 and Windows Server 2008. I've read posts on here, and around the web, but can't get the darn client-side caching to work. I'm trying to cache everything in the /Content folder. So far I've select that folder in IIS manager, and set the appropriate HTTP Response Headers (under Common Headers). I've also checked the web.config file in the /Content folder and the values there are being set. All resources in /Content come back with this (from FireBug): Cache-Control no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate Pragma no-cache Content-Type image/png Expires -1 Last-Modified Sun, 11 Oct 2009 19:01:40 GMT Accept-Ranges bytes Etag "f318d643a54aca1:0" Server Microsoft-IIS/7.0 X-Powered-By ASP.NET Date Sun, 11 Oct 2009 20:40:01 GMT Content-Length 620 Note the Cache-Control and Expires values for this static image being requested. The site is currently compiled in Debug (this will change), but surely that wouldn't make a difference? Obviously I'm overlooking something, any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

    I was wondering how you can give your website customers the confidence that you are not tinkering with the database values. I am planning on running a website which falls in the realm of an online game. There is some kind of credit system involved that people have to pay for. Now I was wondering how sites like this ensure there customers that there is no foul play in the database itself. As I am the database admin i can pretty much change all the values from within without anyone knowing i did. Hence letting someone win that does not rightfully is the winner. Is it maybe an option to decrypt en encrypt the credits people have so i can't change them. Or is there maybe a company i can hire that checks my company for foul play.

    Hi, I am using Qt 4.5 and Windows XP. I need to create an Microsoft Excel Document that has data (some labels and values) from the Qt application. I need to format those data with some fonts,bold,italics,color, background color etc., Besides ordinary data, there will be Picture files (JPG) also. I need to add those into the Excel. I know retrieving values from Excel using QAxWidget, QAxObject. But I don't have a clue about the formatting options that can be applied to cells through Qt and adding images as well??   • Multipart question: Mapping between xml and Json using xpath

    This is a JSON mapping question from a json newbie. Currently i'm reading xml using xpath in C#, and the xpath are returning either the element or attribute node values, as is the schema's want. I want to write out some of the returned values into a json formatted file. I know i can faneigle the xpath expression to return the element or attribute names, so I can built the appropriate name/value json structure before serialization, but I was I'm wondering if their was some way of doing a mapping between the xml and json. The xml schema is fairly big, so potentially the mapping will be big, meaning a ton of cumbersom coding to make it work. Is their any way to automap somehow? I was planning to use json.net, which seems flexible enough, although their may be a better approach. Any help would be appreciated. Bob.

    I want to draw several graphs and combine them into one figure. I will explain the problem in an example. Let's say that I want to draw two graphs with these points: Graph #1 (X and Y are defining a coordinate). X - Y _____ 1 - 5 2 - 5 5 - 7 9 - 10 Graph #2 X - Y _____ 6 - 8 8 - 12 9 - 7 12 - 8 15 - 11 21 - 11 What I do is that I create a chart and click on "Select Data". There I create two series and choose X and Y values. However, this doesn't work since it doesn't allow me to choose different X values for different graphs. Although I choose different for these two series, the second one is chosen for both. This is how it looks like in the end: Do you know how to fix this? I'm using Excel 2008 for Mac.

I need to retrieve the values for an experiment and create a thumbnail image showing an XY plot of its data. Because the actual data set for each experiment is potentially 100,000 data points and my image is only 100 pixels wide, I want to sample the data before creating the image.     I'm trying to make an app with localisation built in, but I want a way that I can create a web link within the text, the URL being defined elsewhere (for ease of maintenance). So, I have my links in res/values/strings.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <resources> ... <string name="link1">http://some.link.com</string> <string name="link2">http://some.link2.com</string> </resources> and my localised text in res/values-en-rGB/strings.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <resources> ... <string name="sampleText">Sample text\nMore text and link1\nMore text and link2.</string> </resources> I've not tested this bit, but from the localization section of developer.android.com it says that this approach to reducing content duplication should work, although I'm not sure what folder I should put Italian, for example. Would it be in 'res/values-it-rIT/strings.xml'? Lets assume that I have various other languages too. I'm looking for a way of taking the base localised 'sampleText' and inserting my html links in, and getting them to work when clicked on. I've tried two approaches so far: 1, Putting some formatting in the 'sampleText' (%s): <string name="sampleText">Sample text\nMore text and <a href="%s">link1</a>\nMore text and <a href="%s">link2</a>.</string> and then processing the text like this: TextView tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.textHolder); tv.setText(getResources().getString(R.string.sampleText, getResources().getString(R.string.link1), getResources().getString(R.string.link2))); But this didn't work when I click on the link, even though the link text is being put in to the correct places. 2, I tried to use Linkify but the regular expression route may be difficult as I'm looking at supporting non-Latin based languages. I tried to put a custom xml tag around the link text and then do something like this: Pattern wordMatcher = Pattern.compile("<span1>.*</span1>"); String viewURL = "content://" + getResources().getString(R.string.someLink); Linkify.addLinks(tv, wordMatcher , viewURL ); But this didn't work either. So, I'd like to know if there's a way of dynamically adding multiple URLs to different sections of the same text which will link to web content? Thank you, Martyn
