  • For anyone with free time: Trying to learn how to replace PHP with Python, failing terribly.

    - by MALON
I want give web development using Python a shot, but I'm failing hard. I don't even know if I CAN run Python. The webpage for my web host says it supports all kinds of stuff, including Python. I've never touched anything CGI related and this does not appear to be a noob friendly area. Below is all the information I could think of that might be useful: Shared host: Yes Webhost: dibbsonhosting.com Server OS: linux Python installed: Yes (or so says the webhost) mod_python installed: Don't Know WSGI installed: Don't Know Access to http.conf: No Terminal access: No Cpanel: Yes FTP: Yes Django: downloaded latest stable release, not uploaded anywhere, not sure where to put it. DB: MySQL 5.x I really want to use Python for web development! Thanks!

  • How many bits can be transfered through Ethernet at each time?

    - by Bobb
I am writing a networking application. It has some unxpected lags. I need to calculate some figures but I cant find an information - how many bits can be transferes through Ethernet connection at each tick. I know that the resulting transfer rate is 100Mbps/1Gbps. But ethernet should use hardware ticks to sync both ends I suppose. So it moves data in ticks. So the question is how many ticks per second or how many bits per one tick used in ethernet. The actual connection is 100 Mbps full-duplex.

  • how to access objects in run-time in qtp?

    - by Onnesh
We have a function which accesses two types of controls like button and list box in standard windows app. The function uses only the control name as arguments, so there is no way qtp could understand what type of control it is. how to resolve this? Write 2 separate functions- 1 for button & another for list box?

  • C#.NET Reload configuration settings from an external config file during run-time.

    - by user569850
I'm writing a game server in C#.Net and would like to reload or refresh settings from a config file while the server is running. Ideally I would like to save the settings in an XML file, have the ability to edit the file while the game server is running and then send the server the command to reload the settings from the file. I know I can use a database to do this as well, but the game server is fairly small and I think it would be more practical to just save settings in a flat-file. I will have file-level access to the machine the server will run on. What should I use?

  • Add characters (',') every time a certain character ( , )is encountered ? Python 2.7.3

    - by draconisthe0ry
Let's say you had a string test = 'wow, hello, how, are, you, doing' and you wanted full_list = ['wow','hello','how','are','you','doing'] i know you would start out with an empty list: empty_list = [] and would create a for loop to append the items into a list i'm just confused on how to go about this, I was trying something along the lines of: for i in test: if i == ',': then I get stuck . . .

  • How to Return A File and a strongly Typed data at the same time?

    - by chobo2
Hi I am using asp.net mvc 1.0 and I want to return a XML file but I also want to return a strongly typed data back so I can update some fields. Like the XML file will contain users who failed to be inserted into the database. So I want that to appear as a dialog save box what asp.net mvc return file() would do. However I also want to return on the page like values like how many users failed to be added, how many users where added, etc. So I want to use scafolding with the class file I want to pass it along. If this was a view I could pass it along as an object model but I don't see a parameter for that in File(). I also don't want to save the xml file onto the harddrive I want to do it through memory. So have a link that would display on the page to download the file and show the the data I want would not be desired.

  • First-time contractor question: how do I handle web hosting?

    - by abeger
I've started doing a little freelance web work and I've got to build a site for a client. The client doesn't currently have a hosting service, so either I or they are going to have to set it up. Traditionally, how does this work out? Do I set it up and then transfer ownership to them when I'm done? Do I leave it to them to set it up? If they're going to be paying for the hosting directly, does that affect anything? Basically, I'm brand new at all this and any and all advice on how to handle hosting would be greatly appreciated.

  • FTP - way to programatically determine time remaining or bytes transfered?

    - by ciaranarcher
Hi all I want to make an FTP connection (ideally using Coldfusion 8, but Java is fine too) that will copy a file to a remote server. Crucially however, I want to know how many bytes have been transferred so I can give some feedback to the user. Is this possible, and if so what FTP API would you recommend as I understand the Sun implementation may be a bit lacking. Thanks in advance! PS: I could have another process/thread poll the file size on the destination machine via a web service call while the file is being transferred but it's not ideal. Getting it through FTP API would be the neatest solution.

  • Why do my Xcode default font starts to look ugly after some time, until I restart?

    - by mystify
I plugged in an external monitor. All resolutions match perfectly. MacBookPro LCD is closed. After about 10 minutes my fonts in Xcode start to look very bad. Only in Xcode. When I restart the mac and don't use an external monitor, fonts look all right again. When I attach the monitor again, fonts look nice. Then I close XCode and reopen it: Fonts suck. All other fonts look great. It seems like Xcode isn't antialiasing them properly after something happens. For my observation it happens when I quit and reopen Xcode while an external monitor is in use. Only way to fix it then is to completely reboot. Is there a fix for this problem?

  • Can I expand macro JUST ONE TIME in specific target?

    - by naive231
A = "demo" %.o:%.cpp $(CC) -c $^ $(A) -o $@ default:$(all_objs) game:A = $(shell read -p 'Enter game version: ' gv && echo $$gv) game:$(all_objs) Just a snippet makefile above. If I make game, main problem is each compilation of sources will expand $(A) and it will request user to input game version over and over. $(A) has default content "demo" only if user doesn't make game target. So, is there any way to set $(A) to be expanded && ?

  • How to do a Translate Animation for both axis(X, Y) at the same time?

    - by user1235555
    I am doing something like this in my Storyboard method but not able to achieve the desired result. This animation I want to be played after the page is loaded. private void PhoneApplicationPage_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { CreateTranslateAnimation(image1); } private void CreateTranslateAnimation(UIElement source) { Storyboard sb = new Storyboard(); DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames animationFirstX = new DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames(); source.RenderTransform = new CompositeTransform(); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(animationFirstX, new PropertyPath(CompositeTransform.TranslateXProperty)); Storyboard.SetTarget(animationFirstX, source.RenderTransform); animationFirstX.KeyFrames.Add(new EasingDoubleKeyFrame() { KeyTime = kt1, Value = 20 }); DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames animationFirstY = new DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames(); source.RenderTransform = new CompositeTransform(); Storyboard.SetTargetProperty(animationFirstY, new PropertyPath(CompositeTransform.TranslateYProperty)); Storyboard.SetTarget(animationFirstY, source.RenderTransform); animationFirstY.KeyFrames.Add(new EasingDoubleKeyFrame() { KeyTime = kt1, Value = 30 }); sb.Children.Add(animationFirstX); sb.Children.Add(animationFirstY); sb.Begin(); } Too cut it short... I want to write .cs code equivalent to this code <Storyboard x:Name="Storyboard1"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(CompositeTransform.TranslateX)" Storyboard.TargetName="image1"> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:0.5" Value="20"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(CompositeTransform.TranslateY)" Storyboard.TargetName="image1"> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="0:0:0.5" Value="30"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard>

  • Can I Select and Update at the same time?

    - by Ed Manet
This is an over-simplified explanation of what I'm working on. I have a table with status column. Multiple instances of the application will pull the contents of the first row with a status of NEW, update the status to WORKING and then go to work on the contents. It's easy enough to do this with two database calls; first the SELECT then the UPDATE. But I want to do it all in one call so that another instance of the application doesn't pull the same row. Sort of like a SELECT_AND_UPDATE thing. Is a stored procedure the best way to go?

  • How to find out style of NSUserNotification during run-time? Or force close an alert?

    - by Dmitri Shuralyov
According to "OS X Mountain Lion Release Notes" (https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#releasenotes/Cocoa/Foundation.html), "The user has ultimate control over what notifications are displayed, and the style (banner, alert, etc). There is no mechanism to override the user preferences." Even though all I want to do is "downgrade" from alert style to banner style... Fine. But can I at least find out whether a notification is of alert or banner style inside the didActivateNotification method? The reason I want to do that is to respond differently according to notification.activationType. When the alert is a banner (which is what I want), clicking its contents is the only possible action, and this both triggers didActivateNotification method and closes the notification banner. When the user chooses alert-style notifications, clicking the alert contents also generates didActivateNotification with the same value of notification.activationType, but it stays on screen instead of going away (it only goes away when the Action button is pressed). I don't want my app to trigger an action repeatedly for the same alert notification, in case the user clicks the content area of an alert notification. An alternative solution would be to force the alert notification bubble to dismiss when the user clicks its contents. Is this possible?
