  • Service-Based Authentication Using Tokens

    - by jerhinesmith
I'm having a tough time trying to find clear and concise examples of how one would implement a service-based authentication scheme using tokens. As far as I can tell, the basic steps are as follows: Client requests username/password from user Client passes username/password to identity provider Provider checks username/password and sends back a token if the user is valid Client does something with the token? The third and fourth step are where I'm getting stuck. I assume the "token" in this case just has to be either an encrypted string that the client can decrypt or some random string that gets stored somewhere (i.e. a database) that the client can then verify against, but I'm not really sure what the client is then supposed to do with the token or why you even need a token at all -- couldn't a simple user ID also suffice?

  • Reinstalling Debian Package -manager?

    - by hhh
I have had this problem for too long time: package-manager not working or very unstable, examples here. Now suppose my laptop has very little precious stuff. Is there some easy way to reinstall Debian -package-manager? I don't really have time to fix this problem so I am considering reinstallation of the OS, I have no idea what is causing this repetitive errors with the installers such as aptitude, pip and apt-get. How can I reinstall the package-managers? Perhaps related rebuilding packages and the package manager on debian

  • OpenGL Vertex Array/Buffer Objects

    - by sadanjon
Question 1 Do vertex buffer objects created under a certain VAO deleted once that VAO is deleted? An example: glGenBuffers(1, &bufferObject); glGenVertexArrays(1, &VAO); glBindVertexArray(VAO); glBindBuffer(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, bufferObject); glBufferData(GL_ARRAY_BUFFER, sizeof(someVertices), someVertices, GL_STATIC_DRAW); glEnableVertexAttribArray(positionAttrib); glVertexAttribPointer(positionAttrib, 3, GL_FLOAT, GL_FALSE, 0, NULL); When later calling glDeleteVertexArrays(1, &VAO);, will bufferObject be deleted as well? The reason I'm asking is that I saw a few examples over the web that didn't delete those buffer objects. Question 2 What is the maximum amount of memory that I can allocate for buffer objects? It must be system dependent of course, but I can't seem find an estimation for it. What happens when video RAM isn't big enough? How would I know?

  • Tridion Core Service - Transaction roll back isnt working

    - by Tamir Lahav
We are using the core service in ASP.NET custom page in order to create pages and components and sevenral updates (checkout, save and chekin). we want those operations to work in transaction, we tried to implement it acording to some examples over the net. However we didn't succeded operating the rollback. It seems that the operation are immediately performed without waiting for the comit . The code we used for simple check out - roll back operation for example is TransactionOptions txOptions = new TransactionOptions { IsolationLevel = IsolationLevel.ReadCommitted }; using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope( TransactionScopeOption.Required, txOptions)) { using (CoreService2010Client m_client = new CoreService2010Client()) { PageData pp = m_client.CheckOut("tcm:309-36311-64", false, new ReadOptions()) as PageData; } scope.Dispose(); } We also added this recomended configuration to the web config bindings section What are we missing ?

  • Regular expression match, extracting only wanted segments of string

    - by Ben Carey
I am trying to extract three segments from a string. As I am not particularly good with regular expressions, I think what I have done could probably be done better... I would like to extract the bold parts of the following string: SOMETEXT: ANYTHING_HERE (Old=ANYTHING_HERE, New=ANYTHING_HERE) Some examples could be: ABC: Some_Field (Old=,New=123) ABC: Some_Field (Old=ABCde,New=1234) ABC: Some_Field (Old=Hello World,New=Bye Bye World) So the above would return the following matches: $matches[0] = 'Some_Field'; $matches[1] = ''; $matches[2] = '123'; So far I have the following code: preg_match_all('/^([a-z]*\:(\s?)+)(.+)(\s?)+\(old=(.+)\,(\s?)+new=(.+)\)/i',$string,$matches); The issue with the above is that it returns a match for each separate segment of the string. I do not know how to ensure the string is the correct format using a regular expression without catching and storing the match if that makes sense? So, my question, if not already clear, how I can retrieve just the segments that I want from the above string?

  • Database table design vs. ease of use.

    - by Gastoni
I have a table with 3 fields: color, fruit, date. I can pick 1 fruit and 1 color, but I can do this only once each day. examples: red, apple, monday red, mango, monday blue, apple, monday blue, mango, monday red, apple, tuesday The two ways in which I could build the table are: 1.- To have color, fruit and date be a composite primary key (PK). This makes it easy to insert data into the table because all the validation needed is done by the database. PK color PK fruit PK date 2.- Have and id column set as PK and then all the other fields. Many say thats the way it should be, because composite PKs are evil. For example, CakePHP does no support them. PK id color fruit date Both have advantages. Which would be the 'better' approach?

  • What's your favourite programming language, and its killer feature?

    - by eplawless
Each language I've used has had its pros and cons, but some features have really shone through as being indispensible, shining examples of how to design a programming language to make programmers happy. I use PHP a lot at work, and the one thing I really miss when moving to other languages is PHP's foreach: foreach($items as $item) //iterate through items by value foreach($items as &$item) //iterate through items by reference foreach($items as $i => $item) //by value, with indices foreach($items as $i => &$item) //by reference, with indices In C#, I'm kind of smitten with the built-in multicast delegate system, as well as the way it handles getters and setters. So what's your favourite/favorite language, and what feature makes it awesome?

  • Dreamweaver regular expression substitution followed by number

    - by mark
Hi. I'm using Dreamweaver to update copyright dates across my site. I want to preserve the existing spacing (or lack thereof) between years. Examples: © 2002-2008 should update to © 2002-2009 © 2003 - 2008 should update to © 2003 - 2009 This is the regular expression I'm using to accomplish this in Dreamweaver's find & replace function Find: ©\s*(\d{4}\s*-\s*)\d{3}[^9] Replace: © $1 2009 Here's the PROBLEM: This expression works, but has that that extra space between the hyphen and 2009. If I write the replace expression without the space, as © $12009 then dreamweaver looks for the 12,009th substitution in the find expression, and, not finding one, prints $12009. Any ideas?

  • RegEx (or other) parsing of script

    - by jpmyob

  • Calculate proportional width of object (proportion: 1600x1080)

    - by Hans Stauden
Hello, this jquery question: when I set a specific height to a "#div", i want to set the width of a inner object automatically too (cause i need a width to read it out) [ "#div" ["object"] ] example: (object).css(width: [ CALCULATION ], height: ($("#div").height())+'px' ) the original proportion of the image is: 1600x1080 here's the link to the attachment, take a look at it (tinypic): link text the heights "500px", "600px" and "700px" you can see in the attachment are just examples, the heigth could also be "711px", "623px", "998px" etc. cause the "#div" scales with the browser (i can read out the height of window, that works) my math skills aren't really good, would be great if someone could help me out :-)

  • Adding a decorator that converts strings to lowercase in Python

    - by user2905382
So I am new to learning decorators and I have gone through countless tutorials and while I understand and can mostly follow all of the examples, I think the best way to learn, would be to implement a decorator myself. So I am going to use this example below. I realize a decorator is not at all necessary to do this, but for the sake of learning, I would like to add a decorator that filters the strings like dog name and breed and turns them into lowercase. Any ideas or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. class Dogs: totalDogs = 0 dogList=[] def __init__(self, breed, color, age): self.breed=breed self.color=color self.age=age Dogs.dogList.append(self.breed) Dogs.totalDogs += 1 def displayDogs(self): print "breed: ", self.breed print "color: ",self.color print "age: ",self.age print "list of breeds:", Dogs.dogList print "total dogs: ", Dogs.totalDogs def somedecorator(*args): #now what terrier=Dogs("TeRrIer", "white", 5) terrier.displayDogs() retriever=Dogs("goldenRETRIEVER", "brown", 10) retriever.displayDogs()

  • How to validate data for a Rest Service with symfony

    - by Nicolas V.

I've a class Message which has two properties destinationNumber and textMessage. Before calling the gateway, I want to validate the data received by the rest service. I've two questions relatives to how to validate the data : Where should I put the validation rules ? in the model or in the controller How should I use the sfValidator* classes from Symfony to validate the data (ie. where's the documentation for using sfValidator or where can I find some examples) Any help would be appreciated.

  • Reading for a junior ASP.NET C# web developer.

    - by William
We have a new junior developer and I want him to start reading up on various topics in order to broaden his horizons. I am trying to group these into "areas" so that he can focus on getting a good general knowledge in on subject before moving on to another one. So far I have the following areas: Asp.net with C#, Webforms T-SQL CSS Can you provide good examples of reading material (preferably e-books so I can get them quicker) for him in each of those areas. Other areas and blogs to follow are also welcome.

  • What's currently the best way to extend Excel using C#?

    - by user169867
I have the professional versions of VS2008 & VS2010. I wish to add a couple buttons to a toolbar in Excel. When they are clicked I'd like to be able to open a form (either WinForms or WPF is fine) collect a few values from the user in the form and then take that data + read cell values from the current worksheet to perform some database operations. What's currently the best way to do this using C#? I'd greatly appreciate a pointer to any examples / tutorials. My understanding is that VS2010 has improved the process alot but I may have to deal w/ Excel 2003 which I don't think it supports. I get confused between Visual Studio 2008s Extensibility-Shared Addin template and other Office Addin templates I've seen. I'm not sure when which type of solution is appropriate. I'm new to Office development so I'd really appreciate any help to get me going on the right track. Thanks much.

  • How can unit testing make parameter validation redundant?

    - by Johann Gerell
We have a convention to validate all parameters of constructors and public functions/methods. For mandatory parameters of reference type, we mainly check for non-null and that's the chief validation in constructors, where we set up mandatory dependencies of the type. The number one reason why we do this is to catch that error early and not get a null reference exception a few hours down the line without knowing where or when the faulty parameter was introduced. As we start transitioning to more and more TDD, some team members feel the validation is redundant. Uncle Bob, who is a vocal advocate of TDD, strongly advices against doing parameter validation. His main argument seems to be "I have a suite of unit tests that makes sure everything works". But I can for the life of it just not see in what way unit tests can prevent our developers from calling these methods with bad parameters in production code. Please, unit testers out there, if you could explain this to me in a rational way with concrete examples, I'd be more than happy to seize this parameter validation!

  • Delphi Search files and directories fastest alghorithm

    - by radu-barbu
Hi, I'm using Delphi7 and i need a solution to a big problem. Can someone provide me a faster way for searching through files and folders than using findnext and findfirst? because i also process the data for each file/folder (creation date/author/size/etc) and it takes a lot of time...I've searched a lot under WinApi but probably I haven't see the best function in order to accomplish this. All the examples which I've found made in Delphi are using findfirst and findnext... Also, I don't want to buy components or use some free ones... Thanks in advance!

  • Where would I use a bitwise operator in JavaScript?

    - by J-P
    I've read this (http://stackoverflow.com/quest...), so I know what bitwise operators are but I'm still not clear on how one might use them... Can anyone offer any real-world examples of where a bitwise operator would be useful in JavaScript? Thanks. Edit: Just digging into the jQuery source I've found a couple of places where bitwise operators are used, for example: (only the & operator) // Line 2756: event.which = (event.button & 1 ? 1 : ( event.button & 2 ? 3 : ( event.button & 4 ? 2 : 0 ) )); // Line 2101 var ret = a.compareDocumentPosition(b) & 4 ? -1 : a === b ? 0 : 1;

  • XML DOM Manipuation

    - by kunalsawlani
Hi, I am new to XML and have been trying some simple examples and they work fine. I want to do something like the following, but I am not able to figure out how to go about doing this. I have a HTML web page, where the user types in some data in an input field. I want to take that data, parse it to create an XML string, and the apply XSLT transformation to it, and display the result back on the page. All this needs to be done on the client browser, with JavaScript. If some one could point out the steps or the general procedure to go about doing this, it would be great. I have been looking over the net, but the information is so vast, that I have not been able to locate exactly what I need. Thanks

  • fstream stopping math.h from working

    - by CaptainProg
I am creating a program in C++ in which I need to read a text file in. I have included the fstream header file, which allows me to open the file, but having added the include, I now receive countless errors relating to math.h functions. Examples: 1>c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\cmath(19): error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'acosf' 1>c:\program files\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\cmath(19): error C2059: syntax error : ';' Is there any way I can include the text file reading functions of fstream without compromising the math.h functions? And why does this conflict occur anyway? /Edit/ It seems the errors are in the cmath standard header file. It is nothing I have access to, but for the sake of completion, here is the code that is causing the errors: using _CSTD acosf; using _CSTD asinf; using _CSTD atanf; using _CSTD atan2f; using _CSTD ceilf; (etcetera)

  • Should I use a metaclass, class decorator, or override the __new__ method?

    - by 007brendan
Here is my problem. I want the following class to have a bunch of property attributes. I could either write them all out like foo and bar, or based on some other examples I've seen, it looks like I could use a class decorator, a metaclass, or override the __new__ method to set the properties automagically. I'm just not sure what the "right" way to do it would be. class Test(object): def calculate_attr(self, attr): # do calculaty stuff return attr @property def foo(self): return self.calculate_attr('foo') @property def bar(self): return self.calculate_attr('bar')

  • What tricks can be used to type and edit code faster?

    - by Thomas
As Jeff Atwood noted, we are typists first, programmers second. Fast typing and editing may not be essential to be a good programmer, but it certainly helps. I noticed that I consciously and subconsciously use various tricks to get my intent across to the computer as fast as possible. What tricks can be used to type and edit code faster? I'm hoping to collect a nice list here that we can all learn from, so that we can be ever so slightly more productive. One trick per answer please! (This is not about typing speed in general. There are other questions about that. It's also not about general answers like "learn your editor's shortcut keys". Think of this topic as micro-optimizations for specific cases. See my own answers for examples of what I mean.)

  • Creating a Mac OS application that interacts with all text fields

    - by mjdth
What would be the first step to creating an application for Mac OS X that would take user interaction from any text field in the system? A couple examples of apps that do this are TextExpander and Typinator. What I want to do would be using similar functions to access Text fields throughout the computer during user input to give other additional options, I'm just not sure where to even start in Xcode and with what type of project to use. Any help or links would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Workflow Foundation: How to create Recieve activity with custom message in xaml designer?

    - by Petr Felzmann
I need to have Recieve activity which can receive my custom data. I found examples, but all use coded workflows like such public class ProcessRequest : Activity { public ProcessRequest() { Variable<MyData> request = new Variable<MyData> { Name = "request" }; Receive receiveRequest = new Receive { ServiceContractName = "IProcessRequest", OperationName = "Foo", CanCreateInstance = true, Content = ReceiveContent.Create(new OutArgument<MyData>(request)) }; } } The main point is that Recieve.Content property. It is not clear for me how I can do it in XAML designer. What I have to set in the dialog of the Content property - Message or Parameters and what to set inside those options? Thanks for the light!
