• 'Error serializing body'. Problem calling Fedex webservice through .NET 3.5

  I'm using Fedex's web services and getting an annoying error right up front before I can actually get anywhere. There was an error in serializing body of message addressValidationRequest1: 'Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1). error CS0030: Cannot convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' error CS0029: Cannot implicitly convert type 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement' to 'FedEx.InterOp.AddressValidationServiceReference.ParsedElement[]' '. Please see InnerException for more details. I'm using .NET 3.5 and get a horrible named class generated for me (I'm not sure why it isn't just AddressValidationService): AddressValidationPortTypeClient addressValidationService = new ...; on this class I make my web service call: addressValidationService.addressValidation(request); This is when I get this error. The only references I can find to this error come from ancient 1.1 projects. In my case my DLL has references to System.Web and System.Web.Services which seemed to be an issue back then.

• Possible to view T-SQL syntax of a stored proc-based SqlCommand?

  Hello! I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to retrieve the actual T-SQL that is to be executed by a SqlCommand object (with a CommandType of StoredProcedure) before it executes... My scenario involves optionally saving DB operations to a file or MSMQ before the command is actually executed. My assumption is that if you create a SqlCommand like the following: Using oCommand As New SqlCommand("sp_Foo") oCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure oCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@Param1", "value1")) oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using It winds up executing some T-SQL like: EXEC sp_Foo @Param1 = 'value1' Is that assumption correct? If so, is it possible to retrieve that actual T-SQL somehow? My goal here is to get the parsing, etc. benefits of using the SqlCommand class since I'm going to be using it anyway. Is this possible? Why is that? I don't want the content outside of UpdatePanel1 to be changed whenever UpdatePanel1 is doing its thing. Please help.

• Generating PDF files from .NET by using standard .NET GDI printing classes

  I'm looking for a way to generate PDF files using the standard PrintDocument and Graphics (GDI) classes in .NET. As far as I know, the only way to do that is by printing to a PDF printer. The problem is that a PDF printer driver always asks for a filename, but I need to control the filename from my code. Using a PDF library like PDFSharp or DynamicPDF is not an option, because they all provide their own API for generating PDF files. I need this for an internal application, so dependencies are not a problem. My question is simple: is there a way to control a printer driver (Adobe Acrobat, PDFCreator, ...) in such a way that a filename can be specified and the user is not prompted for anything?

• App with MVC Virtual application shared AuthCookie.

  I have a 3.5 ASP.Net WebForm parent application. The parent uses forms authentication. I have a MVC child virtual application, I would like to make it so the user logs in to the parent application, user then navigates to the virtual application by pressing a link on the parent. However every time I do this it goes to the login screen for the virtual application. Is there a web setting I should double check in Parent? Or Child? Is there an IIS setting that I should check? Should I be using a virtual directory instead of virtual application? I want the child to be able to access the Session[] from the parent. I would like the child app to use the same authCookie as the parent app.

• Classic ASP on IIS 7

  Hi, I am having problems with my app running on IIS 7. The application is a mixture of classic ASP and ASP.NET MVC (don't ask how and why). Anyway, the application is up and running except for some problems that I am experiencing. For example, I have a button on my page and when I click it, javascript is opening a popup which needs to contain .asp page. But that doesn't happen. I get the blank popup with my cursor on busy as it still loads. This is happening almost always to me in IE. In Firefox it is much better but sometimes the app jams there too. If I close the opened, blank popup, and I want to move around the application, my buttons in menu (which are also .asp) doesn't load properly. For example, I have different buttons for different sections and when I move around they should change. When I restart the browser, only then everything works normal for some time, but the problem occurs again after a while. I am very sure that it is not the problem in application itself, because it works properly on the machines of my colleagues without those problems. They have the same OS (Vista Professional) and we compared the settings in IIS and they match. So I am very confused, and I really don't know how to solve the problem. I found a bunch of articles and blog posts about classic ASP and IIS7 but most of them are about enabling asp, which I already did. So I am suspecting that something wrong with IIS, but I don't know what, tried to reinstall it, hoping for some improvement, but I had no luck. If you need more details please ask. Does anyone have any idea what should I try or do?

• Processing XML form input in ASP

  I'm maintaining a legacy application which consists of some ASP.Net pages with c# code behinds and some asp pages. I need to change the way the application accepts it's input from reading a set of parameters from some form fields to reading in one form field which contains contains some XML and parsing to get the parameters out. I've written a C# class that takes an The NameValueCollection from the C# HttpRequest's Form Element. Like so NameValueCollection form = Request.Form; Dictionary<string, string> fieldDictionary = RequestDataExtractor.BuildFieldDictionary(form); The code in the class looks for a particular parameter and if it's there processes the XML and outputs a Dictionary, if its not there it just cycles through the Form parameters and puts them all into the dictionary (Allowing the old method to still work) How would I do this in ASP? Can I use my same class, or a modified version of it? or do I have to write some new code to get this working? If I have to write ASP code Whats the best way to process the XML in ASP? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question but I know next to nothing about ASP and VB.

• Android Template Application?

  I have built an application that I want to use as the foundation for a few other variants. The variants will come from assets / resource files and a unique AndroidManifest.xml. However, I want to be able to leave all the application code alone (modifying the package of all my classes, etc). I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do so. My first thought was to simply have my main application in its own package, and then specify the specific application package in the manifest. However, this gives me issues with the generated R.java class, since it is generated to be in the main application's package. Anyone have any thoughts on how to accomplish this? To have a code baseline, and the application variants happen in resources/assets and the manifest?

I was working on a small asp.net app. I have some dynamic themes in the \theme folder and have implemented a page base class to load the master page on the fly.   Anyone try this simple bit of code in an ie8 browswer and try refreshing the page, in ie8 you will get an error around getelementbyid on refresh.   I just installed the release version of Visual Studio 2010, and it looks like there's something wrong with the standard ASP.NET server controls. When I create a basic server control, such as a TextBox, the editor underlines it in green and says (I also get no intellisense for ASP.NET controls): Element 'TextBox' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the Web.config file is missing. The web site builds fine, and the Web.config file is not missing: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="false" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> </configuration> The controls work just fine in the code-behind, and they function correctly when I run the site. Is there some configuration problem here?

• Combining features from other projects in an ASP.NET MVC application

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC application that combines a set of features from existing applications. The new application is suppose to use UI features and logic created (especially for this purpose) in the existing applications. For that reason I wanted to create in the existing applications some kind of a "blackbox" that I will be able to drop in my new application along with a matching connection string, and it will work independently, binding data on it's own. I thought about using partial views, but I am having trouble with passing the model data to it, since the controller of the new application should not know about the model of the existing applications. I can not use ASP.NET WebForms, since my application should be a "postback-less" application, and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit or frameworks alike are out of the question. • How can I install .NET framework 3.5 on XP machines without internet connection?

  I want to install .NET framework 3.5 on a couple of machines that do not have internet access. If I install the "no internet access"-package it still wants to download something. How can I figure out what is missing? Are there other installation packages? Edit: I would present screenshots but I cannot upload anything from here and the shots would be in german. So I present only the text translated back to english... Installing the "full redistributable package": At the bottom of the license agreement page it display this text: Size of download file: 67 MB Appoximate download time: 2h 44min (56KBit/s) 18min (512KBit/s) It shows the text even if I installed Windows Installer 3.1. After agreeing it displays the "Download and Installation Status"-Dialog with a progress bar labeled "Download:" and Status: Connection to server attempted (try X of 5). Total Download Status: 56MB/67MB I tried it in a VM with no network connection. It tries 5 times while the progress bar shows progress. Later the progress bar is labeled "Installation:". Even later it reports problems during setup and provides two buttons "Send Report Later" and "Don't Send". Now here it comes: "Setup completed" and "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 has been deinstalled successfully." (Emphasis is mine) "It is recommended to install current service packs and security updates. More information at Windows Update (link)." Edit2: Installed Service Pack 3, but still no success.
