    Hello, I've a self join table when I delete or update it's id I want to delete or update all the direct and indirect affected records SQL server does not allow this type of cycle cascading I've decided to use triggers but this triggers will file recursively and they will be terminated at 34 level and I don't know the depth of records and event I disable the trigger and re enable it after completing the process how can I construct a SQL statement that achieve this logic?

    Excel seems to have a problem with doing math in SQL queries. SELECT ( SELECT sum(column) FROM table1 ) + ( SELECT sum(column) FROM table2 ) AS total This technique works completely fine in ASP and ASP.NET. Has anyone had success doing this in Excel VBA? (My database engine is SQL Server 2000.)

    I have a project that involves recording data from a device directly into a sql table. I do very little processing in code before writing to sql server (2008 express by the way) typically i use the sqlhelper class's ExecuteNoneQuery method and pass in a stored proc name and list of parameters that the SP expects. This is very convenient, but i need a much faster way of doing this. Thanks.

I used configuration manager, find network configuration/protocols and there enabled TCP, after that I have restarted sql server service and tried installation of problematic software again (software which told me that TCP is not enabled) but I have the same problem :-(

    i have a string like this something = "something, something1, "something2, something else", something3" i need it to be read into a table like this: field1 = "something" field2= "something2" field3 = "something2, something else" field4 = "something3" please notice that the double quotes in the something string signified that the string inside the quotes is to be placed in one field anyone know how to do this with an insert into statement or some other way? the answer can be purely sql or can be vba with sql. thanks!

When running within SQL Management Studio we have the use select to display "Results to Text" so all of the SQL results and print statement display in one place. Now I need to have some C# code also call this auditing procedure at the end of the process and basically store all data that would be in the "Results to Text" window into a .txt file.     I got a little problem i need a sql query that gives all rows back that only contains 0 in it. the column is defined as varchar2(6) the values in the column looks like this: 0 00 00 100 bc00 000000 00000 my first solution would be like this: Oracle: substr('000000' || COLUMN_NAME, -6) = '000000' SQL Server: right('000000' + COLUMN_NAME, 6) = '000000' is there an other way?   • How do you prevent file confusion if version-control keywords are forbidden?

    At least two brilliant programmers, Linus Torvalds and Guido von Rossum, disparage the practice of putting keywords into a file that expand to show the version number, last author, etc. I know how keyword differences clutter up diffs. One of the reasons I like SlickEdit's DiffZilla is because it can be set to skip leading comments. However, I have vivid memories of team-programming where we had four versions of a file (two different releases, a customer one-off, and the development version) all open for patching at the same time, and was quite helpful to verify with a glance that each time we navigated to an included header we got the proper one, and each time we pasted code the source and destination were what we expected. There is also the where-did-this-file-come-from problem that arises when a hasty developer copies a file from one place to another using the file system, rather than checking it out of the repository using the tool; or, more defensibly, when files under control in locations A, B, and C need to be marshalled (with cherry-picking) into a distribution location D. In places where VCS keywords are banned, how do you cope?

The first time the database was moved it was by detaching, copying and reattaching, the second time we tried restoring from a backup of the staging.
