  • How do I configure ubuntu server's iptables to allow java without opening the floodgates?

    - by rofls
I'm new to servers, so please bear with me. I have my amateur site running. Problem is, I followed Rackspace's instructions on setting up iptables and am pretty sure that's why the java server I'm trying to use on port 8080 isn't working (it runs the script but my android test app doesn't connect to it). When I try running the same java server script on port 80 it doesn't even start. I also ran nmap on my domain and saw that indeed only port 80 and 22 (for ssh) are responding. Is it possible to run Java and apache happily on the same server? If so, how can I configure my iptables correctly. (I'm aware that I should probably do some sort of filtering in the java server itself, but will figure that out later).

  • How does java LoginContext.login() work?

    - by tangens
I have this code to create a configuration of a java client to connect to a JBoss application server: System.setProperty( "java.security.auth.login.config", "auth.conf" ); LoginContext auth = new LoginContext( "myAuth", new LoginCallbackHandler( username, password ) ); auth.login(); The file auth.conf contains the following lines: myAuth { org.jboss.security.ClientLoginModule required; }; Now, somewhere else in the code (the LoginContext auth isn't known there) I have an EJB that does a initialContext.lookup( jndiName ) and a narrow() to access a Bean on the JBoss application server. This narrow only succeeds if the login information of the first step was correct. Question How does the login information propagate from the LoginContext to the narrow()? I don't see any connection between these two places. And further, how could I do two or more different logins inside of one client?

  • Cannot connect via HTTPS in Java app on MacOSX (Certificate validation issue)

    - by johnnyx
I have a java application that connects to a webservice over https. The domain where i host the webservice has a valid Goddaddy issued SSL certificate. The application works fine on Windows but on MacOSx i receive the following exception when attempting to connect to the webservice via https. sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target I've tested it on two machines running Mac OS X 10.7.2 with the latest java runtime updates. I understand this is usually a problem with self signed certificates that need to be added manually, but i have a valid Godaddy issued certificate. In webbrowsers (safari & firefox) on mac os the certificate is recognized and seems ok. I even tried adding the certificate to the key chain manually like in the gase of a self signed one but to no result.

  • Find java classes implementing an interface

    - by Linor
Some time ago, I came across a piece of code, that used some piece of standard java functionality to locate the classes that implemented a given interface. I know the the functions were hidden in some non logical place, but they could be used for other classes as the package name implied. Back then I did not need it, so I forgot about it, but now I do, and I can't seem to find the functions again. Does anyone know where to find these functions? edit: I'm not looking for any IDE functions or anything, but rather something that can be executed within the java application.

  • mac, java 1.5: javax.mail not recognized as a jar file

    - by Helpme
hello fellow java developers, Having a little issue with creating a java application on a macintosh computer (snow leopard). I've set up my application in eclipse, added all of the appropriate jar files, but for some reason the code is not recognizing some of my variables as valid types. I've imported the libraries via import javax.mail.*; import javax.mail.internet.*; These libraries are not recognized by the application. BUT I've put them on the build path! Any advice on how to fix this?

  • Java EE - newbie question (not related to learning JEE)

    - by UnCon
I've read lot of articles saying, that Java EE is most popular enterprise solution nowadays. Let's not argue if it is most popular or second most popular or what. The thing is : I see almost all web pages with extension like .html, .php and .aspx. Why there is (almost) none .JSP ? Why so ease to find ASP.NET pages if it is supposed to be less popular? Please I am not programming with Java EE (yet) so don't blame me, if I am completely wrong. The answer with patience would be greatly appreciated!

  • Web-Application development startup advice

    - by rpr
Dear programmers of StackOverflow, recently me and two of my friends from college started a software company. We are developing web-applications using GWT-Spring-Hibernate and other helper frameworks. In a couple of months, we managed to set up a stable back-end and produced some demo programs for CRM solutions. Our area of interest is CRM where we can combine the flexibility of our back-end with the slick looking GWT based GUIs. Unfortunately we live in a third world country (well, kind of two and a half :) and no one here gives our work enough credit, or really cares about the advantages of web-apps. We are stuck at the moment because our current clients do not want to pay that much money for just "putting their local app on the web". Since we can not find satisfying work here, we have decided to work online/international. I was wondering if you guys know a good freelance kind of sites where we can throw ourselves into the market.. Also a question from frustration, to those who are in the field or knowledgeable/interested about web based CRM, how much would you ask/pay for lets say a web app which will keep track of all the patients of a multi-branch clinic also allowing the patients to access to view their own records? Including tiered authorization, logging etc.. Many thanks in advance for your responses!

  • Is there a writable iterator in Java?

    - by Lukasz Lew
In C+ one can use iterators for writing to a sequence. Simplest example would be: vector<int> v; for (vector<int>::iterator it = v.begin(); it!=v.end(); ++it) { *it = 42; } I need something more complicated - keep iterator as a class member for a later use. But I don't know how to get this behavior from Java iterators. Are there writable iterators in Java at all? If not then what replaces them?

  • Permissions error for a signed Java applet when including external JAR files

    - by sri
I have a signed Java applet. And it works fine. But now I have to integrate some 3rd party JAR files with it. When I test it from Eclipse, the whole thing works correctly. But when I test it as an applet, it gives me a FilePermission error. I thought this was because those 3rd party JAR files don't have a java.policy.applet within them. But manually adding the policy file doesn't get rid of the error. What am I missing? Thanks! ============================ All the 3rd party JAR files sit on the server filesystem like so: A.jar, B.jar, C.jar. And I include them in the applet tag like so: <applet archive="my.jar,A.jar,B.jar,C.jar"> </applet> Also, in the MANIFEST/MANIFEST.MF file in my.jar, I include those JAR files like so: Class-Path: A.jar,B.jar,C.jar

  • Use deployJava.js to check for/automatically install latest JRE version for web applet

    - by Pryo
I'd like to use the deployJava.js tool to have Java automatically detect the currently installed JRE and install an updated version if necessary. My initial impression when reading about deployJava.js was that it would do this out of the box when you simply set a version number as a function parameter for the "runApplet" function. But this has never seemed to work. Is it even possible to do this, and if so, how? Here is my current code for launching my applet: <script type="text/javascript" src="https://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var attributes = {id:"applet", name:"TheApplet", code:"TheApplet"}; var parameters = {jnlp_href: "http://localhost/TheApplet.jnlp"}; deployJava.runApplet(attributes, parameters, "1.6.0_31"); </script> Thanks

  • Google appEngine: 404 when accesing /_ah/api

    - by jfu
I try to build a very simple GAE application, using eclipse and the Google Plugin for Eclipse. I've generated some Endpoint from an @Entity class, then I've generated Cloud Endpoint Client library. After that I've started the appEngine project (within eclipse, on the embedded jetty server). When I try to access /_ah/api I get the following issue: HTTP ERROR 500 Problem accessing /_ah/api/. • Run java with highest security setting

    - by Ankiov Spetsnaz
I'm currently writing an in house coding challenge web application and I am wondering if there is any other security precaution I would need to have other than below java option at runtime. java -Djava.security.manager=default Basically, challenges would be more of single threaded math and algorithm focused. So I would need to enable basic data structure objects and disable any file, sockets, threading or any thing that might be not so important. Based on my quick search turning on security manager as above seems to be a solution but since this is a security related I would like to be sure before it goes alive. Is there anything else I could do more?

  • Java applet icon doesn't show

    - by user295744
I have a java applet where I've changed the image icon that appears in the top left corner of the window. The code I use is this: Toolkit kit = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit(); Image frameIcon = kit.getImage("src/myapp/resources/logo.png"); getFrame().setIconImage(frameIcon); Everything works fine until I deploy the applet to a standalone jar. In this case the icon that shows is the default icon, as if the code couldn't find the image. But the image is inside, although it is in the folder: myapp/resources/ What am I doing wrong here? Is this some weird java bug?

  • Creating ActionEvent object for CustomButton in Java

    - by Crystal
    For a hw assignment, we were supposed to create a custom button to get familiar with swing and responding to events. We were also to make this button an event source which confuses me. I have an ArrayList to keep track of listeners that would register to listen to my CustomButton. What I am getting confused on is how to notify the listeners. My teacher hinted at having a notify and overriding actionPerformed which I tried doing, but then I wasn't sure how to create an ActionEvent object looking at the constructor documentation. The source, id, string all confuses me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! code: import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.util.List; import java.util.ArrayList; public class CustomButton { public static void main(String[] args) { EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { CustomButtonFrame frame = new CustomButtonFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setVisible(true); } }); } public void addActionListener(ActionListener al) { listenerList.add(al); } public void removeActionListener(ActionListener al) { listenerList.remove(al); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { System.out.println("Button Clicked!"); } private void notifyListeners() { ActionEvent event = new ActionEvent(CONFUSED HERE!!!!; for (ActionListener action : listenerList) { action.actionPerfomed(event); } } List<ActionListener> listenerList = new ArrayList<ActionListener>(); } class CustomButtonFrame extends JFrame { // constructor for CustomButtonFrame public CustomButtonFrame() { setTitle("Custom Button"); CustomButtonSetup buttonSetup = new CustomButtonSetup(); this.add(buttonSetup); this.pack(); } } class CustomButtonSetup extends JComponent { public CustomButtonSetup() { ButtonAction buttonClicked = new ButtonAction(); this.addMouseListener(buttonClicked); } // because frame includes borders and insets, use this method public Dimension getPreferredSize() { return new Dimension(200, 200); } public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g; // first triangle coords int x[] = new int[TRIANGLE_SIDES]; int y[] = new int[TRIANGLE_SIDES]; x[0] = 0; y[0] = 0; x[1] = 200; y[1] = 0; x[2] = 0; y[2] = 200; Polygon firstTriangle = new Polygon(x, y, TRIANGLE_SIDES); // second triangle coords x[0] = 0; y[0] = 200; x[1] = 200; y[1] = 200; x[2] = 200; y[2] = 0; Polygon secondTriangle = new Polygon(x, y, TRIANGLE_SIDES); g2.drawPolygon(firstTriangle); g2.setColor(firstColor); g2.fillPolygon(firstTriangle); g2.drawPolygon(secondTriangle); g2.setColor(secondColor); g2.fillPolygon(secondTriangle); // draw rectangle 10 pixels off border int s1[] = new int[RECT_SIDES]; int s2[] = new int[RECT_SIDES]; s1[0] = 5; s2[0] = 5; s1[1] = 195; s2[1] = 5; s1[2] = 195; s2[2] = 195; s1[3] = 5; s2[3] = 195; Polygon rectangle = new Polygon(s1, s2, RECT_SIDES); g2.drawPolygon(rectangle); g2.setColor(thirdColor); g2.fillPolygon(rectangle); } private class ButtonAction implements MouseListener { public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) { System.out.println("Click!"); firstColor = Color.GRAY; secondColor = Color.WHITE; repaint(); } public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) { System.out.println("Released!"); firstColor = Color.WHITE; secondColor = Color.GRAY; repaint(); } public void mouseEntered(MouseEvent e) {} public void mouseExited(MouseEvent e) {} public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) {} } public static final int TRIANGLE_SIDES = 3; public static final int RECT_SIDES = 4; private Color firstColor = Color.WHITE; private Color secondColor = Color.DARK_GRAY; private Color thirdColor = Color.LIGHT_GRAY; }

  • Alternative to latex / a way to typeset good looking documents from Java to PDF

    - by drasto
I'm working on application in Java that will maintain database of song lyrics in plain text and print out some songbooks/chordbooks(that is create PDF file from selected songs). I was planing that the Java application will generate source code for pdflatex and after compiling this source user will get PDF file. Lately I've run into a lot of problems because of latex limitation: fixed memory size (some pictures will also be drawn to PDF) - error when exceeded, no way to query end of line or and of page dynamically, it's very hard to override latex placement algorithm in a complex way,... see also some my other questions regarding latex. I come to conclusion that latex is not good option for automated PDF generation. So I need replacement. I need to be able to typeset: Chords over lyrics when the lyrics are in variable char width so I need to be able to measure text width Chord diagrams that means I'll have to draw quite complex pictures Each song on separate double page Different fonts etc. Thanks for all answers
