• Rotating UIWebView with transform, content partially off screen, how to get it to stick on screen?

  I have a 320x416 portrait-shaped UIWebView filling a UIViewController's view. I also have a 90 degree rotate button that will transform the UIWebView through 90 degrees each time the button is touched. The code is basically: webView.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(touches%4 * M_PI/2.0); After rotation through 90 degrees, the now-landscape transformed UIWebView extends beyond both the left and right edges of the screen. In the process of applying the transformation, iPhone OS has changed the UIWebView's frame from {{0,0}, {320,416}} to {{-48,48}, {416,320}}. Don't have a problem with that. I then tweak the UIWebView's frame origin to (0,0) so that it starts top-left, but extends a little further beyond the right edge of the screen. Now, I can touch the UIWebView and pull it left to view the hidden information on the right but I cannot get the right-hand end to to stay on the screen -- the moment I untouch it, the right side bounces back off the screen. What is it that causes the view to bounce back off-screen? In other words, what is it that I need to tweak to allow either the left edge or the right edge to stick on the screen and remain visible (only one at a time, obviously)? Thanks.

• Threading vs single thread

  Is it always guaranteed that a multi-threaded application would run faster than a single threaded application? I have two threads that populates data from a data source but different entities (eg: database, from two different tables), seems like single threaded version of the application is running faster than the version with two threads. Why would the reason be? when i look at the performance monitor, both cpu s are very spikey ? is this due to context switching? what are the best practices to jack the CPU and fully utilize it? I hope this is not ambiguous.

• IKImageView, Buttons work intermittently in 10.5 but ok in 10.6

  Hi all, In IB,I have connected some buttons to a IKImageView. Using its received Action 'ZoomIn:', 'ZoomOut:','ZoomImageToActualSize:' When I build for 10.6 I have no issues these work as expected. But in 10.5 (ppc), they sometimes work as expected and sometimes do not. I have even tried it programatically. But I get the same results. It is intermittent with each build after I have made some small change in IB that I need. But not changes that should affect how the view acts. The only buttons that seem to work through out are 'ZoomImageToFit' and the rotate ones. When the do not work as expected, I see no change to the current image in the view, but when my app (/s, I have had this issue before in different apps) changes the image The view reflects the last request from a button. So for example when it does not work. An image is displayed, I click the 'ZoomImageToActualSize:' button, nothing happens. I load a new image and it is displayed at Actual size. Example when it does work. An image is displayed, I click the 'ZoomImageToActualSize:' button, It is displayed at Actual size. By the way, I know I can reset the view default , before I load a new image. Also if I run the 10.5 app in 10.6, it works ok, but as above I get intermittent results with the same build on multible 10.5 machines. Does anyone know what is going on, is this a known bug?   I am using an AXObserver to monitor when a window is closed. In the callback, I am just raising an NSNotification. All working well. What is the correct syntax for attaching some user data as refcon? The working call looks like this: err6 = AXObserverAddNotification(observerTable, tableRef, kAXUIElementDestroyedNotification, nil); and the callback specified when I create the observer has the signature: static void cbTableClosed (AXObserverRef observer, AXUIElementRef element, CFStringRef notification, void *refcon) I want to replace refcon with an object of my own, but don't know how to change either line. The obvious objective-c type changes through up warnings.

  I am developing a .NET Windows service that is creating a couple of threads and then uses these threads to send print jobs to printers (there is a thread for each printer). I have some issues which sometimes can be fixed by restarting the service. Some issues also arise when the service has been running for a while. This makes me suspect a possible memory leak. So, a couple of questions: Would a garbage collector collect an object if it was created inside a thread, or will the object exist until the thread is stopped/terminated? What tools can I use to monitor the amount of memory used by a Windows service and by a thread that I am starting programmatically?

• Matlab matrix translation and rotation multiple times

  I have a map of individual trees from a forest stored as x,y points in a matrix. I call it fixedPositions. It's cartesian and (0,0) is the origin. I would like 0/360 degrees to be the top of the screen and 90 degrees to be to the right. Given a velocity and a heading, i.e. .5 m/s and 60 degrees (2 o'clock equivalent on a watch), how do I rotate that x,y points, so that the new origin is centered at (.5cos(60),.5sin(60)) and 60 degrees is now at the top of the screen? Then if I were to give you another heading and speed, i.e. 0 degrees and 2m/s, it should calculate it from the last point, not the original fixedPositions origin. I've wasted my day trying to figure this out. I wish I took matrix algebra but I'm at a loss. I tried doing cos(30) and even those wouldn't compute correctly, which after an hour I realize were in radians.

  Does anyone know of a way to obtain free real-time stock data or near real-time stock data? I'd like to do this since I'm interested in the financial market, not for use in investment applications which is why I'm looking for something free. I've tried the Perl module Finance::YahooQuote but some of the fields such as last trade time appear to be broken. I've looked at the historical data but it doesn't fit my needs since I'd like to monitor the movements of the markets and stocks during the trading day not just open and close. I've also looked at http://www.opentick.com but they aren’t accepting new accounts and I can't find a timeline for when their network upgrade will be complete.

  Hi, I have created a view that I want to be able to rotate. The two views are: containerView and this has a .backgroundColor of red and BackgroundImage as a subview.   Hello, can you please help me with the following questions... If I need a virtual printer that will convert a PostScript stream to a different format, do I have to implement a virtual printer from scratch or implement a rendering plug-in? The rendering plug-in seems to support only certain customizations. Also the data invariably goes to the spooler which is not needed in this case. If I implement a virtual printer driver does it completely replace the Microsoft PostScript Driver or the Microsoft Universal Driver? Since my driver is virtual, does it matter if I write a PostScript compliant or a Universal Driver compliant one? Any other method to convert a printed document to a custom document format apart from implementing a virtual printer driver? Can I hook on as a port monitor or something? From what I could understand I guess not.

  I have used the 2to3 utility to convert code from the command line. What I would like to do is run it basically as a unittest. Even if it tests the file rather than parts(funtions, methods...) as would be normal for a unittest. It does not need to be a unittest and I don't what to automatically convert the files I just want to monitor the py3 compliance of files in a unittest like manor. I can't seem to find any documentation or examples for this. An example and/or documentation would be great. Thanks

  I'm writing bash script, which does several thing. In the beginning it starts several monitor scripts, each of them runs some other tools. At the end of my main script, I would like to kill all things that spawned from my shell. So, it might looks like this: #!/bin/bash some_monitor1.sh & some_monitor2.sh & some_monitor3.sh & do_some_work ... kill_subprocesses The thing is that most of these monitors spawn their own subprocesses, so doing (for example): killall some_monitor1.sh will not always help. Any other way to handle this situation?

• My C# program running as Windows Service is blocking Windows XP from hibernation

  I have Windows Service written in C#. It starts two threads, one is pooling a Web Service, second is waiting on a Monitor object for a new job to arrive. Besides that, the main thread acts as a WCF service host using NetNamedPipeBinding. It lets the client application to register a callback and then sends notifications back. The problem I have is that when this Windows Service is running, I cannot hibernate or Standby my computer which is running on Windows XP, SP3. When I set Windows to hibernate or standby, nothing happens. Then, at the moment when I go to Service Manager and stop the service, the system hibernation starts immediately. The service class extending the ServiceBase has properties like CanHandlePowerEvent, CanPauseAndContinue, etc. set to true... That didn't make any difference. The question is: what can be blocking the Hibernation/Standby from proceeding? What should I take care about to avoid it?

• How would you code an efficient Circular Buffer in Java or C#

  I want a simple class that implements a fixed-size circular buffer. It should be efficient, easy on the eyes, generically typed. EDIT: It need not be MT-capable, for now. I can always add a lock later, it won't be high-concurrency in any case. Methods should be: .Add and I guess .List, where I retrieve all the entries. On second thought, Retrieval I think should be done via an indexer. At any moment I will want to be able to retrieve any element in the buffer by index. But keep in mind that from one moment to the next Element[n] may be different, as the Circular buffer fills up and rolls over. This isn't a stack, it's a circular buffer. Regarding "overflow": I would expect internally there would be an array holding the items, and over time the head and tail of the buffer will rotate around that fixed array. But that should be invisible from the user. There should be no externally-detectable "overflow" event or behavior. This is not a school assignment - it is most commonly going to be used for a MRU cache or a fixed-size transaction or event log.

  I am trying rotate an ImageView along with its original location (rotating the image aswell as the view). So that After rotation, when I click on the rotated Image in its current position, it should be able clicked in the rotated location only. For this solution I am trying the following code. However it is rotating is going fine. After the rotation end I need to place the ImageView and Image in the rotated Location to make it able click over there only. But it is not going successfully. I am unable to rotated Image location axis points to place correctly. • How to design websites for all display sizes

  I like to use a lot of unique graphics on my pages, which often results in making different page sizes depending on available screen width/height. Here are two examples: http://www.uvm.edu/~areid/homesite/ - the image floats at the bottom of my screen but on a larger browser, the image floats near the middle making it look off. It looks best when the bottom of the window aligns with the bottom of the image www.stevenlebel.com - it loads two different pages depending on what monitor size is detected. This seems like a lot of redundant coding. My question is, how can I make sliced/Photoshop images transition well to different screen sizes. Does Photoshop allow you to make DIVS instead of tables? Can i make each of the slices created by Photoshop grow/shrink when the browser window size changes? If anyone has any input on creating websites like this I would be very interested to hear what they have to say. Thanks Katie

• dynamically updating a datagrid from a XML file c# 3.5

  I have a datagrid that is populated via XML file when the form loads. Everything is working great but I would like the datagrid to update dynamically when a new order is received (Separate class receives a data stream and updates the file). Im looking for suggestions on how this should be done. (ie using a timer update every second, or monitor the file using FileSystemWatcher.. etc) Since where here, I might as well mention that in order to update the datagrid Im clearing the whole data set and Re-reading the file using: DataSet.Clear(); DataSet.ReadXml("file.xml"); dataGridView1.DataSource = DataSet; if this is not the proper approach, please offer any alternate suggestions.

• Boost multi_index_container crash in release mode

  I have a program that I just changed to using a boost::multi_index_container collection. After I did that and tested my code in debug mode, I was feeling pretty good about myself. However, then I compiled a release build with NDEBUG set, and the code crashed. Not immediately, but sometimes in single-threaded tests and often in multi-threaded tests. The segmentation faults happen deep inside boost insert and rotate functions related to the index updates and they are happening because a node has NULL left and right pointers. • Help debugging Apache, Passenger and Rails problem

  We have an environment running that uses Apache, Passenger and rails. The system is handling most request normally, yet certain requests do not make it to the rails application. For instance, a request to /books is successful, but /books/1 hits apache and passenger, but does not even make it to rails. We set the apache log level to debug and the passenger log level to 3 so that we could monitor all incoming requests. We could see each request coming through and even the /books/1 request is being handled by passenger. But it never gets to rails. Is there any way to determine where the request goes between Passenger and rails or where debugging information might live? Has anyone ever seen any problems with passenger spawning or queuing? We have spawning set to conservative. Also, we have had some permission/ownership problems in the past, so I am not ruling this out yet. Thanks in advance

• iphone - grouping UIImageViews x blocking elements

  I have to rotate several UIImageViews around a specific center. To accomplish this I am using the famous trick of putting these views as subviews of a larger one and rotating that one. The problem is that these subviews have to detect touches, because each one has buttons on it. The hierarchy is like this LARGE_VIEW | |_____ imageView1 | |_________ button1 | |_________ button2 | |_________ button3 | |_____ imageView2 |_________ button4 |_________ button5 |_________ button6 etc So, to make buttons respond to tap, I had to make this; [LARGE_VIEW setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imageView1 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; [imageView2 setUserInteractionEnabled:YES]; ImageView1 and 2 are two vertical rows of buttons on each side of the screen. The problem is that there's another view below LARGE_VIEW and this view is not receiving the taps, because LARGE_VIEW is intercepting them first. I don't need LARGE_VIEW to detect any taps except on the two areas where imageView 1 and 2 are. LARGE_VIEW must let pass taps on the area defined by this rect (52, 0, 768-2*52, 1024). ImageView1 and 2 have this size: 52 pixels wide and 1024 pixels high (iPad). ImageView1's rect is: (0, 0, 52, 1024) and ImageView2's rect is: (768-52, 0, 52, 1024) LARGE_VIEW must let pass taps on the area defined by this rect (52, 0, 768-2*52, 1024). How to solve that? I need LARGE_VIEW detect taps on each rect defined on my previous paragraph and pass these taps to its subviews and just let pass taps outside these rects to the app, so other views BELOW, can detect taps too. thanks.

It doesn't work - it caches for 60 seconds, but only one cached copy is created regardless of what I put in the CacheString property. Anyone any ideas what i'm doing wrong? - After 4 hours of this I have no hair or nails left - please save my monitor from the brick.

• Learning Objective-C 2.0 and ASP.NET 4.0 simultaneously?

  (HOBBY) I own a Macbook Pro and iPod Touch so developing iPhone/iPod/iPad apps seems like a logical thing to do in order to get some experience in the programming field. Besides I want to write a new application similar to the Capsuleer (Character skills monitor app for EVE Online MMO) but with more features. It's something I'd love to have on my own iPod Touch and I am sure other people will welcome a new EVE Online app for their iPhone or iPod Touch. (CAREER) I want to learn ASP.NET (and possibly Silverlight later on) for my potential future job. I plan to work in the .NET field, so it's a good idea for me to start learning C# and ASP.NET ASAP. Is it a good idea to learn completely unrelated technologies at the same time? Or would it be better to learn one thing at a time? Objective-C first, and ASP.NET second. Or vice versa. Thanks, Sahat

• Get newly created window using Win32 API hooks

  This may be a long short or not even possible but no harm in asking. What I am trying to do is monitor an application for any new windows it creates in its MDI control. I have implemented hooking in C# and can capture the MDICREATE window message but because I need to get information about the window after is has been created the MDICREATE message isn't much help because at that stage the window hasn't been created in the other application yet. Without going into to much detail I just need to be able to see when a new window has been created. Is this possible? Thanks
