  • What is /opt/sun_docs used for, in Solaris 10?

    Solaris 10, SPARC. While trying clean up my "/opt" directory, I saw the "sun_docs" directory. I scanned the contents with "du -a", and also found a single, possibly related file (/var/opt/sun_docs/sundocs.html). If I understand correctly, it looks like a local set of HTML files, designed to be ready by a locally running browser? It looks like it could be shared via http, if an admin knew how to turn that on. I did google and check docs.sun.com. -ben

  • How to change controller numbering/enumeration in Solaris 10?

    After moving a Solaris 10 server to a new machine, the rpool disk is now c1t0d0. We have some third party applications hard coded for c0t0d0. How can I change the controller enumeration on this machine? There is no longer a c0. I've tried rebuilding the /etc/path_to_inst, but the instance numbers don't seem to match up with the controller numbers. Also, it's not clear if i86pc platforms use this file. I've tried devfsadm -C to clear the dangling links, but I'm not sure how to cause devfsadm to start numbering from 0 again (or force certain devices in the tree to a specific controller number). Next I am going to try to create the symlinks manually in /dev/dsk and rdsk to point to the correct /devices. I feel like I am going way off path here. Any suggestions? Thanks

  • Facebook and Gmail stop working after 10 minutes

    I have problem with facebook and gmail only: It works fine and lets me log in, view photos and videos, read new messages, etc. But after 5-10 minuets it doesn't load at all This webpage is not available. The webpage at http://www.facebook.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. More information on this error Below is the original error message Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error After deleting cookies this problem disappears for 5-10 minuets, then I get the same error. It happens with Google Chrome and Firefox. Ping works fine. I have checked System-Preferences-Network Proxy it sets on Default - "Direct Internet Connection". Then I have run test (chrome://net-internals/#tests) and got some FAIL results Use system proxy settings Disable IPv6 host resolving Probe for IPv6 host resolving IPv6 is disabled.

Components Involved Intel P68 Chipset Motherboard 4 SATA ports that can be configured for Raid An intel SSD cache that sits in front of the RAID, and a 64 GB SSD configured in that manner Two 1TB HDDs configured in RAID 1 OS: Windows 7 Professional Resources Consulted so far I found a great resource on LinuxQuestions.org for a good "best practices" process for Linux machines, but I'd like to develop a similar process that I know works on Windows Machines.

But now i need ubuntu-12.10-desktop also, along with win8. Is there is a way to install ubuntu-12.10-desktop, without affecting my files and win8 on second 50GB partition. Is the installation method is same as of other similar questions here. Please answer and i don't know anything about commands posted on other answers here, i just started to learn UNIX.     Being a huge nerd, I decided that I would go ahead and upgrade to the latest and greatest office. That being, Office 2010 Professional Plus. The biggest concern that I had was loosing all my mail settings from Outlook 2007. Thankfully, it upgrade gracefully and worked like a charm. So lets start this top 10 list. 1) You can upgrade without fear of loosing all your stuff! As you can tell by the screenshot below, you can select what you want to do. I selected to remove all previous versions.    2) Outlook conversations: Just like GMail, you can now group emails by conversations. This is simply awesome and a must have. 3) The ability to ignore conversations. If you are on a email thread that has nothing to do with you. Simply “ignore” the conversation and all emails go into the deleted folder. 4) Quick Steps, do you send an email to the same team member or group constantly. With quick steps, its just one click away. 5) Spell check in the Subject line! 6)  Easier Screenshots, built in just click the button. No more ALT-Printscreen for those that are not aware of the awesome SnagIT 10 that's out. 7) Open in protected view. When you open a document from an email attachment, it lets you know the file may be unsafe. You can click a button to enable editing. This is great for preventing macros.       8) Excel has always had a variety of charts and graphs available to visually depict data and trends. With Excel 2010, though, Microsoft has added a new feature called Sparklines, which allows you to place a mini-graph or trend line in a single cell.   • HDMI signal interrputs after 10 minutes plugged in a TV

    Ubuntu 11.10, Dell Inspiron N4050, VLC, Jupiter I'm trying to watch movies through HDMI output on a TV, with VLC, with the notebook unplugged from AC (but with enough battery for 2-3 hours of use), just with TV display (the notebook display stays off) And from 10 to 10 minutes, the TV turns black, and according to the TV, the HDMI cable is unplugged. But using the touchpad makes the screen appear again. In "screen" options, on system settings, i've set the screen to never turn off, and never reduce brightness using battery. In "power" settings, i've set to not suspend when using battery. In Jupiter, i've set (while trying to watch the movie) to work in maximum performance. I'm pretty sure it's not VLC, because i've set it to override power options and screensaver options (and also im not using xscreensaver). Also the movie continues, when the screen is black Maybe there's something that i'm missing? When i plug the HDMI in the notebook, i use jupiter to change the display (using the option "external display only")... maybe is that ?
