  • Does Team Foundation support cross-app workitem groups?

    We're currently using Visual Source Safe and BugNet and looking to migrate up and away from VSS. I've been pushing for either SVN ( a) we're an ASP.NET shop, b) DCVS is not an option - no matter how much I like Hg ;-) or TFS. Well we finally got a new dev server, so I talked the boss into installing TFS on it (30 day trial). In the meantime, we had started experimenting with FogBugz. We really like FogBugz for about 80% of what we want to do, and the other 20% is probably stuff that we don't know what we want. I'm pushing for TFS because it allows for IDE integrated (mostly) everything. He's pushing for FogBugz because he can group tasks by customer and then project and manage everything from one dashboard. (which means I lose most of my IDE integration - no huge loss I agree) Does TFS support a single dashboard that would span all our solutions (in this case each solution is a full app that we sell to a vertical market client) and let us assign workitems to each solution-spanning-group? So for instance I think we envision something like this: PROJECT1 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT2 - Bugtracker and workitems PROJECT3 - Bugtracker and workitems CUSTOMER1 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT2) CUSTOMER2 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT2, PROJECT3) CUSTOMER3 - Deployment schedules, required features, specific notes (Uses PROJECT1, PROJECT3) Hopefully that makes sense. naturally it's more complicated than this but I think I've given the details enough to paint a picture. I offered the option of creating dummy projects per customer but he doesn't like that and it doesn't really give us the single dashboard view that we're hoping to end up with (and that FogBugz as we've sorta implmented things does do now). Has anyone got a good suggestion on a management app that would accomplish what both of us want?

Specifically, the constraints are as follows: Must install on an existing Windows Server 2008 64 bit TFS application layer is 32 bit only Should I install SQL Server 2008, Sharepoint and the app layer in a virtual instance of Windows Server 2008 or 2003(I am already running Hyper-V) or split the layers with a database on the host OS and the app layer in a virtual machine?     We have a web app that we update and release almost daily. We use git as our VCS, and our current branching strategy is very simple and broken: we have a master branch and we check changes that we 'feel good about' into it. This works, but only until we check in a breaking change. Does anyone have a favorite git branch strategy for small teams which meets the following requirements: Works well for teams of 2 to 3 developers Lightweight, and not too much process Allows devs to isolate work on bug fixes and larger features with ease Allows us to keep a stable branch (for those 'oh crap' moments when we have to get our production servers working) Ideally, I'd love to see your step-by-step process for a dev working on a new bug

  • Visual Studios Team System 2008 Code Coverage Window Closes

    Trying to run the code coverage tool in Visual Studios for a set of unit tests. Adam from Think First, Code Later has had the same problem: I wanted to get the code coverage metrics for the project. Naturally, I fire up the solution in Visual Studio 2008, go to the Test menu, click Edit Test Run Configurations, and click Local Test Run. I then click Code Coverage to turn on code coverage for a given assembly and POOF the Local Test Run Configraution window just disappears. He recommends installing this hotfix to fix the problem, however a) when I run that hotfix I get the message “None of the products that are addressed by this software update are installed on this computer. Click Cancel to exit setup.” and b) there is no Silverlight in our solution. Any other ideas for a fix?

Please note that I am not referring to bug fixing support, I am referring to the broader OS support, with people available to engage users needing support with a problem and drive it to a proper resolution. Is there an official team for this purpose with a clear scope and activity plan ?

  • iOS app rejected by itunes team for copyright when embedding video from youtube

    I have created a simple app for my client with his selection of youtube videos embedded via iframe player and html5. The app got approved in android store whereas itunes rejected it claiming below, "Apps may not use protected third party material such as trademarks, copyrights, patents or violate 3rd party terms of use. Authorization to use such material must be provided upon request" Below is the link for the app in android. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jayam.shortfilms While I share videos using the html code obtained from youtube share button, still apple is claiming that I should provide evidence of copyright from each video owner.     Any idea how to unmap a project? Here is what I am trying to do, I changed the location of a source control, completely removed it from TFS source control.. but now it is showing up wanting to add it.. And the other issue I'm having is.. when I try to Map the new project, it is giving this error.. thing is, I've completely deleted the files off my local PC, and I'm wanting to map and get latest version from source control, but giving error trying to map, rather not change the location, how do I remove the old binding and the project, when it was already deleted using TfsDeleteProject.exe

    I was wondering if this was a good question to ask a possible employer when interviewing for a developer position: What is the greatest strength and weakness of your development team? We all get this question when we are in an interview, so why not ask them in return? I think it is a very good question because we could find out about the team, and how this strength or weakness could affect us, but I don't want to annoy the interviewer. Is there any downside to asking this question when interviewing for a developer position?

  • Team City + Gallio runs tests, but results are not shown

    We recently updated to Visual Studio 2010, and as part of our upgrade we started using Gallio 3.2 prerelease builds. Everything runs fine in Visual Studio (through resharper) but I'm having problems with TeamCity integration. The tests seem to run during TeamCity builds just fine (our build takes long enough to run all our tests), but the tests are not showing up in TeamCity's test area. Here is the test target from our NANT build file (this hasn't changed in our upgrade at all).     It would seem there is precious little documentation on programming against a TFS 2010 instance. What bits I have found, have next to nothing in the case of documentation beyond barebones listing of client access classes and their members, most likely autogenerated from the code comments. As I'm interested in building a silverlight client against TFS, I will need access to server side API (ideally the silverlight app will talk to my server (mainly for work items) and my server will in turn talk to the TFS server for the goods. Where is the doumentation (if any) for this kind of TFS integration?

  • Domain Trust Issues When Setting Up TFS 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2

    I am trying to setup Team Foundation Server 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 using a single server configuration. During the "Readiness Checks" phase of the configuration wizard, I am facing an issue that i preventing me from communicating with the domain controller (which is Windows Server 2000). [ System Checks ] TF255435: This computer is a member of an Active Directory domain, but the domain controllers are not accessible. Network problems might be preventing access to the domain. Verify that the network is operational, and then retry the readiness checks. Other options include configuring Team Foundation Server specifying a local account in the custom wizard or joining the computer to a workgroup. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=164053&clcid=0x409 After reading the log file, the main issue I am encountering appears to be: The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed. (type SystemException) I have read in several other locations that the solution to this issue is to: Leave the domain Restart Join a workgroup Restart Rejoin the domain Unfortunately, I have tried this several times now and the issue persists. Is there anything I can try on the either the client machine or the domain controller that may help solve my issue?

    Hi, In my company we want to use Scrum lifecycle, we are using Team System 2010. Team System is great to manage projects developpment and Scrum lifecycle. However we are looking for a solution in order to take care of customers requirements. A tool which give the ability to customer to send us their requests so we can plan it for next sprint. Should i use TFS Web Access ? but which type of Work Item ? I think TFS in general (not only Web Access) is for developpment team, not for customers ... Any idea ? Thanks in advance.
