• Changing keyboard layout on application focus

  Hi Everyone As everybody knows the en-US Keyboard-layout is the best one for programming. So I'd like to use it in my IDEs. But since I live in a non-en-US country I need the de-CH layout for all other applications. Now I wonder if it is possible to set the layout depending to which application currently has the focus. If that is possible, can a human brain adapt to such a behaviour or is it just confusing? cheers, AC

• keep keyboard open when deleting/inserting UITableView's cell (iphone)

  I have a login form using a UITableView. One of the cells has a UISwitch which when on will delete the row above it and when off reinsert it. But the first cell automatically has the keyboard up when the cell is created (basically when the view loads) (by using [cell becomeFirstResponder];) Inserting/deleting any of the cells means that the keyboard animates out and then animates back in. I'd like to remove this so the keyboard stays up while rows are deleted/inserted.

• simple image animation with the keyboard

  Hi the app I am currently working on requires a simple animation to be performed, which I am able to do but timing is an issue. The app uses the slightly opaque keyboard and I have set up a black background to make it more visually pleasing . The app is a utility app and as the user clicks on a settings button the app will flip which looks great. However there is a problem at the moment in that while the app is flipping the keyboard also closes which itself looks great also, however the background remains. I was wondering if there was a way of animating the background image to follow the keyboard's animation pattern and speed? If I set up a discrete animation time the chances are there will be some sort of overlap and either the image will show too long or the keyboard will show too long. Any suggestions? Another option is to make the keyboard show constantly if anyone knows how to do that? i would rather animate it though as it is quite a simple app and so I would like to make it as aesthetically pleasing as possible. /Conor

• IOS How to make the view cover keyboard

  I encounter the a problem: I have a view controller like this. TO make tool bar up when the keyboard appear, I move the self.view to up. [self.view setFrame:CGRectMake(self.view.frame.origin.x, self.view.frame.origin.y + keyboardFrame.size.height * (up ? -1 : 1), self.view.frame.size.width, self.view.frame.size.height)]; Now I want to click the left button in the tool bar, and appear the view that frame is same as the this keyboard. But where can I add this view? if add the subview to the self.view, it will move up with the self.view on the top of the keyboard, not cover. I'm a beginner about IOS, I have no idea about it, and have searched, but got nothing about this. another question, IF when the toolbar at the bottom, I aslo want to click the left button on it to show the view(the animation and frame both are the same as the keyboard), how can I do ? • Keyboard not dismissed

  I am developing a messaging application that have SMS.app-like UI. Conversation screen has text input field at the bottom which is moved up with keyboard. Tapping on conversation area dismisses keyboard by calling resignFirstResponder method on UITextView that we use. This usually works fine, but users report a weird bug which I can't reproduce and fix. People say that sometimes onscreen keyboard doesn't go away when they tap on conversation area, though text input field loses input focus. Once the view enters that abnormal state users are able to type with keyboard, but text that is being entered is not visible anywhere. This bug happens in one of conversation views and since then no one text input field in other views doesn't work as expected. The only way to stop this weird behavior is killing application from multitasking bar. Even more weird thing is that keyboard stays visible while navigating between view controllers in UINavigationController. I noticed two things: - if tap on ' Anyone else experiencing same problems. • C struct memory layout?

  I have C# background. Very newbie to low level language like C. In C#, memory layout by compiler by default, and I have to specify some special attribute to override this behavior for exact layout. As I know, C does not re-align by default. But I heard there's a little re-aligning behavior which very hard to find. Can I know about C's memory layout behavior? (what should be re-aligned and not)

• Disable iOS keyboard (don't show it at all) in phonegap

  If I were writing a native app I would try the solution given here which says: Try to implement the following method in text view's delegate: - (BOOL)textViewShouldBeginEditing:(UITextView *)textView{ return NO; } Unfortunately I need to use phonegap, so I don't have a text view to manipulate. It would be great if I could permanently suppress the keyboard in this app. We've got some custom on screen keyboard that people are supposed to use instead. So, any idea how to disable the popup keyboard completely?

• Apps crashing with EXC_BAD_ACCESS when changing to a custom keyboard layout

  I have a custom layout installed (svdvorak_mac6.keylayout). After a reboot another keyboard layout was selected, so I selected my usual one instead. This lead to a lot of apps suddenly starting to crash (Chrome, Skype, Adium etc). I can change to any other built in layout for OS X, but as soon as I choose one custom installed one (either form ~/Library/Keyboard Layouts/ or from /Library/Keyboard Layouts/) the apps crash. The only thing I can remember that I did before the reboot was to install Google's video chat plugin for the browser. • Keyboard shortcuts are not working when unity plugin in ccsm is disabled?

  I am using ubuntu 11.10 with unity 2d , I dont like the unity launcher and use Docky . So , i have created a new seeion and using some tweaking and playing around i have been successful to get rid of the unity launcher and make a perfect interface that i like , but there are two problems .. Keyboard shortcuts not working I had to disable the ubuntu unity plugin in ccsm to get rid of the unity laucher..when it is enabled , i can use the keyboard shortcuts such as alt+tab etc .. But when i disable it , I am unable to use some shortcuts , I can still use some shortcuts like alt+F4 ect. When I maximise a window , it used to show two window (close , maximise , minimize )buttons and title bars So , i set the window decoration in ccsm to !maxvert from any , and it is working fine for most of the time until i try to snsp the window to a side then the title bar just disappears , leaving space between the panel and the window , I cant close this window until i use the alt+mouse to drag it out , because no buttons would be displayed ..

• Best wireless mouse/keyboard for conference room computer?

  What would be the best wireless mouse and keyboard for a conference room computer that is used by multiple employees throughout the day? We have one in there right now that is really cheap that doesn't work half the time. This is due to the fact that the batteries run down when left on... and it seems to have problems losing its pairing with the computer dongle. Any ideas on something that won't have battery problems, is very reliable and somewhat tough? Price isn't too much of an issue, but I'd still prefer to get something for less than $100 just in case someone walks away with it.

  This may be an odd question, I apologize. I just got the Microsoft ergo keyboard 4000 and was curious about how the zoom feature was to work. I'm using Windows 7 and in Word, IE, or when viewing an image the zoom doesn't seem to do anything. Device manager says that the drivers are updated. Is there a special key combination that is used to make it work. Not sure what I'm missing with this. Thanks.

• Keyboard doesn't let me press certain keys at the same time

  I'm not sure how to word the problem other than I can't use certain keys at the same time. For example, when playing games that require you to use the arrow keys to move and jump/duck I am unable to move to the left and jump (left arrow + up arrow) at the same time. As a result, I don't play many games when I get to a point where the jumps and what not are too far. This happens with other keys as well. In FPS I am unable to hold W to move forward and hit 2 to select my secondary weapon. Some information that might help you: I am using Windows 7 64-bit I am using a Micro Innovations KB565BL keyboard How can I fix this?

  I've been wondering about this for a long time but never thought to ask: I do a lot of scientific work so there are many times it would be really handy to be able to type mathematical symbols or Greek letters which, for the most part, aren't part of the ASCII character set. Like "8 µ ? s t ? ? … v ? = = ±" and so on. Is there a keyboard layout (for Linux) that maps simple key combinations to these kinds of characters? (Assuming all the encoding and font issues are worked out properly) I know I could create one myself but it'd be a lot easier if someone's already done the work, or at least if there's a partial solution I could modify.

  So I recently started using a Das keyboard ultimate with my mac and after installing the key re-mapping, it basically works ok. I have a couple of issues with the set up involving boot camp. When I start up the computer, which key maps to option in order to let me pick which operating system to boot into? I think the bios is detecting the keys along the bottom as alt or something like that and I am not sure what to do here. In windows 7, the " and @ keys are switched.   sometimes the sound of videos isn't enough for me. so i reach the sound indicator , over sound preferences and change it to a level higher than 100%. the question is how can i do it from the keyboard? now i can control the volume from the keyboard but it's maximum is 100%. is there a way to do that? EDIT 1: how to use amixer to do it? (as Lyrositor suggested) EDIT2: the closest answer , as Jo-erland, suggested is to set a hotkey to bring up the gnome-volume-control, and then to use left and right arrows to change volume also beyond the 100% mark. any other suggestions, to make this 1 step only? is it possible to set a hotkey to do a sequence of commands ?

• Solaris x86: Non working keys on keyboard (<, >, #, |)

  Hello everyone, I have a new installation of Solaris 10 10/09 on x86 hardware. The attached keyboard has a normal German layout. The system is configured accordingly by 'kbd -s'. The generic keys (letter, number, umlaut) work fine. Unfortunately some keys like <, , | or # do not. They produce no output on the text console at all. I tried PS/2 and USB keyboards. I cannot test it under X11 as it is currently not working. Thanks.

• Keyboard Slow on a high power machine.

  I am having a terrible time with my high powered machine. The keyboard is not displaying the keys as quickly as I type. Sometimes I have to wait up to a minute for the key to display. When I type ahead it sometimes loses characters. I am not sure where to start looking for this problem. It started about a month ago and I still have not figured out why. It does not always do it. But acts up about 2-3 minutes out of ever hour of use or thereabout. How can I look to isolate and find the problem, and solve it?

  At the moment I'm using context menus a lot to access commands in Firefox, but I would like to replace this repetitive clicking and searching with keyboard shortcuts for the common tasks that I perform. How to assign keys to add-on functionality? E.g. I use Close Other Tabs from Tab Mix Plus a lot - but I could not find any add-on that allows me to create a key combination for it e.g. Ctrl Alt Shift F4?   I can ALT+TAB to Chrome, then CTRL+T to a new tab, then type my request and hit ENTER, but then when I want to look into the first search result I need to take my hand off the keyboard to click it?? Surely someone can recommend a plugin which enables me to just press 1 to go to the first search result, 2 for the second, etc. Or something like that? EDIT: This Greasemonkey script offers precisely what I want, and appears to install perfectly well on Chrome - but doesn't work at all :( Also, I'm using Google Chrome 4.0.249.43 on 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10.

• Differences between Cherry mechanical keyboard switches?

  I want a comfortable, responsive mechanical switch keyboard. My only concern about mechanical switch keyboards is the noise. Boards based off of the Cherry MX Blue seem to be the loudest, but apparently offer increased tactility. I don't mind a clicky noise (I would actually prefer a bit of noise), I just don't want anything overpowering. What are the different types of Cherry mechanical switches are out there, and what separates one from the other? Also, where would I be able to test one out?

  Imagine that problem. When you play some games, sometimes happens situations like "press quickly the X key to escape from ropes" or "press quickly the X key to fill the rage gauge", etc. Of course, that kind of game destroy keyboards, joysticks, mouses, etc. I would like to know about programs (preferentially free) that, by example, will press the 'x' key in intervals of, by example, 300ms. Remember that the built in Windows "keyboard repeat rate" doesn't works for games. When you press (and hold) somekey in the game, the key is not repeated as in default Windows Applications. Thanks!

• How to hide keyboard layout shortcut from Unity top panel?

  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 together with X Neural Switcher, which is a program for the automatic switching of the keyboard layout. The switcher goes with a GUI called gXNeur. The GUI places an applet icon to the Unity top panel (the gXNeur had to be whitelisted for the icon to become visible) that help a lot to configure and make urgent changes in the rules that the program uses. But after the icon is whitelisted I'm having two keyboard layout indicators in the panel (one - native, the second one - gXNeur). The native is the one I'd like to hide while gxNeur is more intuitive. Is there a way to do that? Thanks a lot for your help!
