  • Data Storage question

    - by Nano8Blazex
    Another newbie question: What's the best way to store data in a Cocoa application written in Obj-C? For example if I want to create a sort of "quizzer" that quizzes the user with pre-written (and user-written) questions? How would I store these questions and answers? Core Data? Thanks!

  • Membership provider

    - by Adonis L
    What would be the best way to store additional information outside of active directory? I will be utilizing AD authentication as well as WIndowsTokenRoleProvider but I will also need to store some additional information about a user that will be used for authorizations purposes. This is a ASP.net application with a SQL backend, I am looking for suggestions or perhaps some articles that can provide direction.

  • Why call iframe from javascript

    - by sammville
    I want to know why some ad codes or embed codes don't directly give you iframe code to embed on your site instead they give a javascript code which links to another javascript file on their server. The file on their server calls the iframe which serves the content. Why is this done and what are the benefits of this method. Example: this is the code issued by amazon: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.co.uk/s/ads.js"></script> Which opens another javascript file that calls the iframe.

  • Call from a singleton class to a function which in turn calls that class's method

    - by dare2be
    Hello, I am still looking for a way to phrase it properly (I'm not a native speaker...). So I have this class SQL which implements the singleton pattern (for obvious reasons) and I also have this function, checkUsr(), which queries the database using one of SQL's methods. Everything works fine as long as I don't call checkUsr() from within the SQL class. When I do so, the scripts just exits and a blank page is displayed - no errors are returned, no exception is thrown... What's happening? And how do I work around this problem? EDIT: class SQL { public static function singleton() { static $instance; if(!isset($instance)) $instance = new SQL; return $instance; } public function tryLoginAuthor( $login, $sha1 ) { (...) } } function checkUsr() { if (!isset($_SESSION['login']) || !isset($_SESSION['sha1'])) throw new Exception('Not logged in', 1); $SQL = SQL::singleton(); $res = $SQL->tryLoginAuthor($_SESSION['login'], $_SESSION['sha1']); if (!isset($res[0])) throw new Exception('Not logged in', 1); }

  • C++ - 3 possible values in Variable?

    - by noryb009
    I need to store a 30 letter combination, but each letter can only be "0", "1" or "2". When I use sizeof(myString), it returns 32. I want to use this 30 letter combination to access a row of an array, so I'm wondering if it is possible to use a 3 value bool of some sort to store 1 of 3 values in.

  • Are cookies enough for storing login data? (PHP)

    - by jpjp
    I am reading the Head First PHP/Mysql book and they say to store both the user's username, email into cookies and sessions. Is it safe to assume that everyone know a day has cookies? Or should I store both in sessions and cookies? I am not storing any sensitive data in cookies such as password, etc.

  • Strange type-related error

    - by vsb
    I wrote following program: isPrime x = and [x `mod` i /= 0 | i <- [2 .. truncate (sqrt x)]] primes = filter isPrime [1 .. ] it should construct list of prime numbers. But I got this error: [1 of 1] Compiling Main ( 7/main.hs, interpreted ) 7/main.hs:3:16: Ambiguous type variable `a' in the constraints: `Floating a' arising from a use of `isPrime' at 7/main.hs:3:16-22 `RealFrac a' arising from a use of `isPrime' at 7/main.hs:3:16-22 `Integral a' arising from a use of `isPrime' at 7/main.hs:3:16-22 Possible cause: the monomorphism restriction applied to the following: primes :: [a] (bound at 7/main.hs:3:0) Probable fix: give these definition(s) an explicit type signature or use -XNoMonomorphismRestriction Failed, modules loaded: none. Can you help me understand, why am I getting these errors?

  • Speed of Synchronization vs Normal

    - by Swaranga Sarma
    I have a class which is written for a single thread with no methods being synchronized. class MyClass implements MyInterface{ //interface implementation methods, not synchronized } But we also needed a synchronized version of the class. So we made a wrapper class that implements the same interface but has a constructor that takes an instance of MyClass. Any call to the methods of the synchronized class are delegated to the instance of MyClass. Here is my synchronized class.. class SynchronizedMyClass implements MyInterface{ //the constructor public SynchronizedMyClass(MyInterface i/*this is actually an instance of MyClass*/) //interface implementation methods; all synchronized; all delegated to the MyInterface instance } After all this I ran numerous amounts of test runs with both the classes. The tests involve reading log files and counting URLs in each line. The problem is that the synchronized version of the class is consistently taking less time for the parsing. I am using only one thread for the teste, so there is no chance of deadlocks, race around condition etc etc. Each log file contains more than 5 million lines which means calling the methods more than 5 million times. Can anyone explain why synchronized versiuon of the class migt be taking less time than the normal one?

  • QT List of Callbacks

    - by Talguy
    I am trying to make a real-time data collection application that has timed task. Each task can have a different or the same update period. I would like to store the task with the common update period in a list where I can iterate through it and call the function that I registered in the list. How would I go about adding callbacks to a data structure like a list or vector? Can I store slots in them?

  • I can't seem to figure out type variables mixed with classes.

    - by onmach
    I pretty much understand 3/4 the rest of the language, but every time I dip my feet into using classes in a meaningful way in my code I get permantently entrenched. Why doesn't this extremely simple code work? data Room n = Room n n deriving Show class HasArea a where width :: (Num n) => a -> n instance (Num n) => HasArea (Room n) where width (Room w h) = w So, room width is denoted by ints or maybe floats, I don't want to restrict it at this point. Both the class and the instance restrict the n type to Nums, but it still doesn't like it and I get this error: Couldn't match expected type `n1' against inferred type `n' `n1' is a rigid type variable bound by the type signature for `width' at Dungeon.hs:11:16 `n' is a rigid type variable bound by the instance declaration at Dungeon.hs:13:14 In the expression: w In the definition of `width': width (Room w h) = w In the instance declaration for `HasArea (Room n)' So it tells me the types doesn't match, but it doesn't tell me what types it thinks they are, which would be really helpful. As a side note, is there any easy way to debug an error like this? The only way I know to do it is to randomly change stuff until it works.

    - by mike
    Hi, i would like to or need to use a database for my wpf project. It has to store "person" "team" "goals" and maybe 2 more things, nothing very big. Ive already used (worked) with databases in java / php (postgresql), but is there maybe an "easier" way to store the things.. i mean if the db is going to be big than i could use (postgre or mysql), but this one would be small.

  • storing characters in char data type C language

    - by iSight
    Hi, I can store string of few length in char data type. But when it exceeds its capacity what can be the alternative way to store string. I am using char data type. void setString(char* inPoints) { if (strcmp(mPoints, inPoints)!= ZERO) { if (mPoints) { free(mPoints); } mPoints = (char*)malloc((strlen(inPoints) + 1) * sizeof(char)); strcpy(mPoints, inPoints); } }
