  • What version of Apache HTTP Client is bundled in Android 1.6?

    - by Benju
I want to have a seperate project that runs my server communication code in a normal JVM for the purposes of integration testing. This code uses these libraries which are build into the Android Framework... http://developer.android.com/reference/org/apache/http/client/package-summary.html Does anybody know what version of Apache HTTP Client this is supposed to be? I want to run it without the Android tests which are painfully slow.

  • Why do I get a Illegal Access Error when running my Android tests?

    - by Janusz
I get the following stack trace when running my Android tests on the Emulator: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: client.HttpHelper at client.Helper.<init>(Helper.java:14) at test.Tests.setUp(Tests.java:15) at android.test.AndroidTestRunner.runTest(AndroidTestRunner.java:164) at android.test.AndroidTestRunner.runTest(AndroidTestRunner.java:151) at android.test.InstrumentationTestRunner.onStart(InstrumentationTestRunner.java:425) at android.app.Instrumentation$InstrumentationThread.run(Instrumentation.java:1520) Caused by: java.lang.IllegalAccessError: cross-loader access from pre-verified class at dalvik.system.DexFile.defineClass(Native Method) at dalvik.system.DexFile.loadClass(DexFile.java:193) at dalvik.system.PathClassLoader.findClass(PathClassLoader.java:203) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:573) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(ClassLoader.java:532) ... 11 more I run my tests from an extra project. And it seems there are some problems with loading the classes from the other project. I have run the tests before but now they are failing. The project under tests runs without problems. Line 14 of the Helper Class is: this.httpHelper = new HttpHelper(userProfile); I start a HttpHelper class that is responsible for executing httpqueries. I think somehow this helper class is not available anymore, but I have no clue why.

  • Programmatically created GridView cells don't scale to fit screen

    - by ChrisAshton84
I've read a ton of other responses about GridView already but almost all deal with the XML format (which I had working). I wanted to learn the programmatic way of designing Android, though, so I'm trying to build most of this app without XML. All I define in XML are the GridView and the first TextView. After that I add the other LinearLayouts in onCreate(). I would like to have a 2 column GridView containing a title and several (4 for now) LinearLayouts. I realize from documentation that the GridView won't scale cells unless they have a gravity set, but no matter how I try to do this I can't get it to work. After adding two cells, my GridView tree would look like: GridView -> TextView (colspan 2) -> LinearLayout (Vertical) -> TextView -> LinearLayout (Horizontal) -> TextView -> TextView -> LinearLayout (Horizontal) -> TextView -> TextView -> LinearLayout (Vertical) -> TextView -> LinearLayout (Horizontal) -> TextView -> TextView -> LinearLayout (Horizontal) -> TextView -> TextView I've tried about every combination of FILL and FILL_HORIZONTAL I could think of on either the outermost LinearLayouts, or also trying on the TextViews and inner LinearLayouts. No matter what I do, the LinearLayouts I add are always sized as small as possible and pushed to the left of the screen. Meanwhile, the first TextView (the colspan 2 one) with only CENTER_HORIZONTAL set is correctly centered in the screen. Its as if that TextView gets one idea of the column widths and the LinearLayouts get another! (If I add the FILL Gravity for it, it also moves all the way left.) I believe I had this working accidentally with 100% XML, but I would prefer not to switch back unless this is known to not work programatically. Any ideas what I can try to get this working?

  • Flex 4 Button state in a HGroup

    - by chchrist
    Hi all, I have a HGroup with some buttons inside which is my application's menu. <s:HGroup id="nav"> <s:Button id="homeButton" label="Home" /> <s:Button id="showroomButton" label="Showroom" /> <s:Button label="Catalogue" /> <s:Button label="Offers" /> <s:Button label="My Account" /> <s:Button label="My Orders" /> </s:HGroup> What I want is when I click for example the #homeButton to change it's state to "over", become disabled and reset all other buttons to the "up" state. I've written this function private function resetNavState():void { for(var i:int = 0,ii:int = nav.numChildren-1;i<ii;i++) { Button(nav.getChildAt(i)).mouseEnabled = true; Button(nav.getChildAt(i)).skin.setCurrentState("up",true); } } And then on the homeButton click handler for example i use protected function homeButton_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { resetNavState(); currentState = "home"; homeButton.skin.setCurrentState("over",true); homeButton.mouseEnabled = false; } I resets the states of the #nav buttons but it doesn't change the state of the pressed button. Any ideas? Thanx in advance

  • How do i run the Android command line tools?

    - by fordays
I'm still pretty new to Android and programming in general, and I can't seem to get the command line tools packaged with the Android SDK to work. I'm running Mac OSX and each time I try to run layoutopt, for example, the terminal returns, *-bash: cmd: command not found * Also, is it okay to have my SDK located in the Developer directory and my android project in some unrelated directory when using these tools?

  • What are some good ways to promote my Android application?

    - by Bryan Denny
I'm a new Android developer and I just released a free, open source tipping calculator app called Tippy Tipper. I created this app to get myself familiar with Android and to hopefully provide a good example app for other new developers to look at. Now that I've overcome the challenges of learning how to program, test and release my Android app, I've come across a new challenge: marketing! What are some good ways to promote my app to the Android community? Can anyone with some experience talk about how they did this successfully with their own app?

  • How is the Viewflipper handling the back button in Android?

    - by Janusz
I'm thinking about using a ViewFlipper for an Wizard like Activity. But I see one problem with this approach. The back button. Will the back button go back to the last shown activity or will the the Viewflipper somehow catch the back button event and only change to the last shown activity? I suspect the ViewFlipper to be treated as one Activity on the BackStack so is seems that is the wrong aproach for a wizard. Is this correct?

  • PendingIntent in Widget + TaskKiller

    - by YaW
Hi, I've developed an Application (called Instant Buttons) and the app has a widget feature. This widget uses PendingIntent for the onClick of the widget. My PendingIntent code is something like this: Intent active = new Intent(context, InstantWidget.class); active.setAction(String.valueOf(appWidgetId)); active.putExtra("blabla", blabla); //Some data PendingIntent actionPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, active, 0); actionPendingIntent.cancel(); actionPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(context, 0, active, 0); remoteViews.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.button, actionPendingIntent); The onReceive gets the intent and do some stuff with the MediaPlayer class to reproduce a sound. I have reports from some users that the widgets stop working after a while and with some research i've discovered is because the Task Killers. It seems that when you kill the app in the TaskKiller, the PendingIntent is erased from memory, so when you click the widget, it doesn't know what to do. Is there any solution for this? Is my code wrong or something or it's the default behavior of the PendingIntent? Is there something I can use to avoid the TaskKiller to stop my widgets from working?? Greetings.

  • Updated to Android 2.2 and now my apps input-lines don't show well, do I need to update my SDK?

    - by Allan
My Android app has a couple input-lines made to receive numbers, it's a calc app. I just updated my Nexus One to Android 2.2 and now my apps input-lines don't respond like the way they should. When I touch the input-line, the Android keyboard used to pop-up just enough to kind of 'lift' the input-line above the keyboard - into the users view. Then when I scrolled down to the next input-line, that input-line used to 'lift-up' into view also. Now, after I updated my N1 to Android 2.2 - the input-lines are not lifting into view all the way. Also, when I scroll down to the next input-line and type in numbers - they don't appear, but when I scroll left...there they are. It's hard to describe my problem but things have definitely changed in the way my apps input-lines respond since the 2.2 update I did. If I try to update my SDk stuff in Eclipse and then recompile my app, might that fix it? Whenever there's an Android update - developers don't always have to recompile all of their apps do they?

Actually my desire is,if user click on previous button i want to show previous value and if user click on Next button i want to show next value from database. How to know which button is clicked? here i register button click listener like this public static class UpdateWidgetService extends IntentService { public UpdateWidgetService() { super("UpdateWidgetService"); } @Override protected void onHandleIntent(Intent intent) { AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager = AppWidgetManager .getInstance(this); int incomingAppWidgetId = intent.getIntExtra(EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID); if (incomingAppWidgetId != INVALID_APPWIDGET_ID) { updateOneAppWidget(appWidgetManager, incomingAppWidgetId); } } private void updateOneAppWidget(AppWidgetManager appWidgetManager, int appWidgetId) { DatabaseManager dbManager = new DatabaseManager(this); dbManager.open(); String contactNumber, date, status, message; ArrayList<QueuedMessage> listOfQuedMessage = (ArrayList<QueuedMessage>) dbManager .fetchContactNumber(); if (listOfQuedMessage.size() == 0) Log.i("Db", "null"); else{ date = dbManager.fetchDate(); message = dbManager.fetchMessage(); status = dbManager.fetchStatus(); dbManager.closeDatabase(); RemoteViews views = new RemoteViews(this.getPackageName(), R.layout.schdulesms_appwidget_layout); views.setTextViewText(R.id.to_appwidget_saved_data, listOfQuedMessage.get(count).contacNumber); views.setTextViewText(R.id.date_appwidget_saved_data, date); views.setTextViewText(R.id.status_appwidget_saved, status); views.setTextViewText(R.id.message_appwidgset_saved_data, message); **//here i want do** if(button1){ btnNxtClick(views, appWidgetId,listOfQuedMessage.size()); }else{ btPrevClick(views, appWidgetId, listOfQuedMessage.size()); } appWidgetManager.updateAppWidget(appWidgetId, views); } } private void btnNxtClick(RemoteViews views, int appWidgetId,int sizeOfList) { Intent btnNextIntent = new Intent(this, this.getClass()); btnNextIntent.putExtra(EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, appWidgetId); PendingIntent btnNextPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getService(this, 0, btnNextIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.btnNext, btnNextPendingIntent); } private void btPrevClick(RemoteViews views, int appWidgetId,int sizeOfList) { Intent btnNextIntent = new Intent(this, this.getClass()); btnNextIntent.putExtra(EXTRA_APPWIDGET_ID, appWidgetId); PendingIntent btnNextPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getService(this, 0, btnNextIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT); views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.btnPrev, btnNextPendingIntent); } } can anyone help me out from this problem?? thanks

I can make some of this but don't know how to link button or open and merge camera with the app to be sent as a package of data. I suppose I could also hook into GPS acquire location as well as the camera call?

  • android.intent.action.NOTIFICATION_REMOVE not available on all devices?

    - by Matt McMinn
I've got a receiver set up in my android application to catch android.intent.action.NOTIFICATION_REMOVE intents. On my Evo, it works fine - when a notification is cleared from the notification bar, I catch that event and can run some code. I tried running this on a Samsung Moment though, and it is never caught. So now I'm trying to figure out why, and I can't seem to find anything on Google about this intent action - and I set this code up a few months ago, so I don't remember where I even found this action, it doesn't seem to be in the API. The evo is running 2.2, and the moment is running 2.1-update1, so I'm guessing that it's undocumented, and only available in 2.2. Is there any other way to catch an event that a notification has been cleared? Note that I'm not trying to cancel a notification that I put up, or trying to cancel another app's notification, just catch an event when a notification has been cleared. Here's my receiver in AndroidManafest.xml: <receiver android:name=".NotificationClearedReciever"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.NOTIFICATION_REMOVE" /> </intent-filter> </receiver>

  • How to connect android application running on a device to a local web application?

    - by guna
I have my droid device connected through USB and using Eclipse for debugging my application running on the device. Everything is fine, except my application needs to connect to a web application running on the same host computer (Windows XP, IE). The web address on the IE was "http://local:4566/MyApp/". I tried to set my android app to "http://10.0.2.2:4566/MyApp", but no luck. The android app's connection simply times out. The document under http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html says that the ip address may be different for devices (see Network Address Space section) but no further details on how to find that. Question is, how to I connect to a local web application running on my host computer (windows xp) from an Android application connected through USB running debug under Eclipse? Appreciate any help. thanks, Guna

  • How to build custom sqlite with provider under Android?

    - by dr4cul4
Hi, I have a really strange problem. I need to build custom sqlite3 database engine under Android OS, but I also want to use database provider implementation. Unfortunately when examining sources of Android 1.6 I noticed that it's not so easy. Many classes including android.database.; packages use original provider, also many other parts of framework use android.database.sqlite.; packages directly, wich ofcourse make this abstraction a bit confusing and unnesesary. But going to my question. If there is any way that I could extend database interfaces to use custom implmentation of sqlite (or any other database)?

  • Does Android 2.1's Browser Support HTML 5 and What Video Format Does It Play?

    - by John Giotta
The company I work for produces allot of video and we want to target as many devices as possible, but the question came up of what does the Android do? I personally own an Android based phone running 2.1, but I can't seem to get the HTML 5 tag to work. Even when I can trigger the browser to playback the video it just throws a notification error that it can't. Are there guidelines to producing Android/HTML 5 compatible videos? Is it truly supported?

  • how do i call methods from another class in android?

    - by Phani Gargey
I have two classes in question. Both extend Activity. Class A public void displayinfo() { setContentView(R.layout.dynamicinfo); //Add some buttons dynamically here //do some processing // move on to Class B } In Class B: I want to go back to Class A state in UI if BACK button is pressed. Class B //Register a listener for this button Backbutton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View arg0) { Log.i("setOnClickListener", "Pressed Back Button "); Toast.makeText(mycontext, "Pressed Back Button", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); //HERE I want to go back class's function in UI as well as restoring the sttae for that screen. } how do I do that? I looked around some questions. they did not answer clearly what I am looking for.hence the posting. thanks.I think I was adding my own Back button on the Layout I created in the Class B's UI Screen --not using the regular "Back" button on the key board. May be that was the problem.

  • Beginning Programmer Interested in Android - Should I Start with Java?

    - by Hudey
I'm a beginner in programming. My experience so far is only in Actionscript 2 and 3. So I have a basic understanding of declaring variables, loops, arrays, if/then, do/while... I'm wanting to move to developing for Android phones so I'm wondering what suggestions people have for where to go next. Should I jump right to Android? Start with a 'beginning Java' approach? Or should I go some other route to beef up my knowledge of OOP concepts before launching into Android? I have my Dev environment set up and completed the Hello Android tutorial and I'm just wondering if I am going to be in over my head quickly?

  • Possible to change where Android Virtual Devices are saved?

    - by primehunter326
I've set up the Android SDK and Eclipse on my machine running Windows XP and AVDs (Android Virtual Devices) are saved to "Documents and Settings\user\.android" by default. Is there any way to change this behavior? I have all of the other components saved in a directory on a separate partition and would like everything to be consolidated. Obviously not a huge deal but does anyone here know a workaround for this?
