  • Choosing the right language for the job

    - by Ampt
I'm currently working for a company on the engineering team of about 5-6 people and have been given the job of heading up the redesign of an embedded system tester. We've decided the general requirements and attributes that would be desirable in the system, and now I have to decide on a language to use for the system, or at the very least come up with a list of languages with pros and cons to present to the team. The general idea of the project is that we currently have a tester written in c++, which was never designed to be a tester, but instead has evolved to be such over the course of 3-4 years due to need. Writing tests for a new product requires modifying the 'framework' and writing code that is completely non-human readable or intuitive due to the way the system was originally designed. Now, we've decided that the time to modify this tester for each new product that we want to test has become too high and want to partially re-write the system so that we can program the actual tests in a scripting language that would then use the modified c++ framework on the back end to test the actual systems. The c++ framework would be responsible for doing all the actual work and the scripting language would just integrate with that to tell the framework what to do. Never having programmed in a scripting language (we program embedded systems), I've run into a wall where I have no experience with any of the languages that we could possibly use, but must somehow give pros and cons of each language so that we can choose the best one for the job. Currently my short list of possibilities includes: Python TCL Lua Perl My question is this: How can a person evaluate a language that he/she has never used before? What criteria are good indicators for a languages potential usability on a project? While helpful suggestions for my particular case are appreciated, I feel that this is a good skill to possess and would like to be able to apply this to many different projects if at all possible

  • Top 25 security issues for developers of web sites

    - by BizTalk Visionary
Sourced from: CWE This is a brief listing of the Top 25 items, using the general ranking. NOTE: 16 other weaknesses were considered for inclusion in the Top 25, but their general scores were not high enough. They are listed in the On the Cusp focus profile. Rank Score ID Name [1] 346 CWE-79 Failure to Preserve Web Page Structure ('Cross-site Scripting') [2] 330 CWE-89 Improper Sanitization of Special Elements used in an SQL Command ('SQL Injection') [3] 273 CWE-120 Buffer Copy without Checking Size of Input ('Classic Buffer Overflow') [4] 261 CWE-352 Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) [5] 219 CWE-285 Improper Access Control (Authorization) [6] 202 CWE-807 Reliance on Untrusted Inputs in a Security Decision [7] 197 CWE-22 Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory ('Path Traversal') [8] 194 CWE-434 Unrestricted Upload of File with Dangerous Type [9] 188 CWE-78 Improper Sanitization of Special Elements used in an OS Command ('OS Command Injection') [10] 188 CWE-311 Missing Encryption of Sensitive Data [11] 176 CWE-798 Use of Hard-coded Credentials [12] 158 CWE-805 Buffer Access with Incorrect Length Value [13] 157 CWE-98 Improper Control of Filename for Include/Require Statement in PHP Program ('PHP File Inclusion') [14] 156 CWE-129 Improper Validation of Array Index [15] 155 CWE-754 Improper Check for Unusual or Exceptional Conditions [16] 154 CWE-209 Information Exposure Through an Error Message [17] 154 CWE-190 Integer Overflow or Wraparound [18] 153 CWE-131 Incorrect Calculation of Buffer Size [19] 147 CWE-306 Missing Authentication for Critical Function [20] 146 CWE-494 Download of Code Without Integrity Check [21] 145 CWE-732 Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource [22] 145 CWE-770 Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling [23] 142 CWE-601 URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect') [24] 141 CWE-327 Use of a Broken or Risky Cryptographic Algorithm [25] 138 CWE-362 Race Condition Cross-site scripting and SQL injection are the 1-2 punch of security weaknesses in 2010. Even when a software package doesn't primarily run on the web, there's a good chance that it has a web-based management interface or HTML-based output formats that allow cross-site scripting. For data-rich software applications, SQL injection is the means to steal the keys to the kingdom. The classic buffer overflow comes in third, while more complex buffer overflow variants are sprinkled in the rest of the Top 25.

  • need a different backup solution

    - by DigitalJedi
I just built a new media/backup server using Ubuntu 12.04 64bit. I installed a hard drive to be used only for music, pictures, and videos and formatted it fat32 so my 1 and only Windows PC could map those folders as netshares. My laptop, also running Ubuntu 12.04, is what I am using the most so new media is first downloaded on my laptop. I've already got the music, videos, and pictures folders from my server mounting as shares on my laptop on boot thanks to some fstab edits and sshfs. Now I'm wanting either an app or script that could backup any new files I add to my local media folders to the mounted folders on my server. I've been Googling all day and found a few apps like rsync but they seem to have issues with ext4 to vfat backups. I thought maybe a script would be best but I'm new to scripting in Linux and don't want to mess anything up. Basically I am looking for something that will backup only newly added files to the server. I figure I could schedule it once a week. There are some stipulations. For example, my local music folder has over 700 folders for each artist/band then sub folders inside those for albums. I want something smart enough to only copy newly added content so I'm guessing the modified date would probably be a good condition if I were scripting. I'm rambling. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm not finding anything to suit my needs. I'm almost to the point of just learning bas scripting so I can write something but then it will be a couple weeks or so before I have a possible solution and I'd like something in place sooner.

  • Problem with understanding how to start

    - by Coolface
Okay, this might be a little off-topic but i try anyway. Sorry to bother. So i'm working as sysadmin for at least 5 years now and i quite enjoy IT field in general. Somehow i was never interested in programming much but always want to learn something at least easy and for personal usage. As sysadmin i need scripting skills so learn shell scripting without much problems, i also try to learn pascal, delphi, basic over time and must recent was python. Well, my problem is when i try to learn programming i just can't apply what i learn from the books to the real word. What i mean is i understand there are data structures, algorithms, variables, lib's, if-then logic, etc. but i just can't understand how to apply this things when i want to do real things. Like i want to get a something simple as parse web page, i draw a quick algorithm like get a web page, find a word on it and write a to file, on the paper everything look simple but when i get to the coding i just stuck pretty much from the start. I try read code of the real programs that just totally confusing especially big parts with many classes so i'm just quickly lost a trail what this code do. I think i just lack some fundamentals to see a big picture but don't really know what this might be? Or maybe i just don't have a passion to programming at all... My best bet was a shell scripting so i have really no problems to write complex scripts but this just not enough. Recently i was read around 5 or 6 python books because everyone say it's so easy even kid can code something but still no much luck, python is good and easy but i can't make something harder then a prodecurial style code like in bash for easy things but when i want harder things i'm still stuck. In college i was also not a math and tech guy and like to study non-tech stuff mostly like economy, psychology maybe that my problem? Anyway any advice would be greatly appriciated.

  • How can I improve this collision detection logic?

    - by Dan
    I’m trying to make an android game and I’m having a bit of trouble getting the collision detection to work. It works sometimes but my conditions aren’t specific enough and my program gets it wrong. How could I improve the following if conditions? public boolean checkColisionWithPlayer( Player player ) { // Top Left // Top Right // Bottom Right // Bottom Left // int[][] PP = { { player.x, player.y }, { player.x + player.width, player.y }, {player.x + player.height, player.y + player.width }, { player.x, player.y + player.height } }; // TOP LEFT - PLAYER // if( ( PP[0][0] > x && PP[0][0] < x + width ) && ( PP[0][1] > y && PP[0][1] < y + height ) && ( (x - player.x) < 0 ) ) { player.isColided = true; //player.isSpinning = false; // Collision On Right if( PP[0][0] > ( x + width/2 ) && ( PP[0][1] - y < ( x + width ) - PP[0][0] ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Top Left - Right Side"); player.x = ( x + width ) + 1; player.Vh = player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vh, player.Cr); } // Collision On Bottom else if( PP[0][1] > ( y + height/2 ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Top Left - Bottom Side"); player.y = ( y + height ) + 1; if( player.Vv > 0 ) player.Vv = 0; } return true; } // TOP RIGHT - PLAYER // else if( ( PP[1][0] > x && PP[1][0] < x + width ) && ( PP[1][1] > y && PP[1][1] < y + height ) && ( (x - player.x) > 0 ) ) { player.isColided = true; //player.isSpinning = false; // Collision On Left if( PP[1][0] < ( x + width/2 ) && ( PP[1][0] - x < PP[1][1] - y ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Top Right - Left Side"); player.x = ( x ) + 1; player.Vh = player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vh, player.Cr); } // Collision On Bottom else if( PP[1][1] > ( y + height/2 ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Top Right - Bottom Side"); player.y = ( y + height ) + 1; if( player.Vv > 0 ) player.Vv = 0; } return true; } // BOTTOM RIGHT - PLAYER // else if( ( PP[2][0] > x && PP[2][0] < x + width ) && ( PP[2][1] > y && PP[2][1] < y + height ) ) { player.isColided = true; //player.isSpinning = false; // Collision On Left if( PP[2][0] < ( x + width/2 ) && ( PP[2][0] - x < PP[2][1] - y ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Bottom Right - Left Side"); player.x = ( x ) + 1; player.Vh = player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vh, player.Cr); } // Collision On Top else if( PP[2][1] < ( y + height/2 ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Bottom Right - Top Side"); player.y = y - player.height; player.Vv = player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr); //player.Vh = -1 * ( player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr) ); int rs = x - player.x; Log.i("RS", String.format("%d", rs)); if( rs > 0 ) { player.direction = -1; player.isSpinning = true; player.Vh = -0.5 * ( player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr) ); } if( rs < 0 ) { player.direction = 1; player.isSpinning = true; player.Vh = 0.5 * ( player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr) ); } player.rotateSpeed = 1 * rs; } return true; } // BOTTOM LEFT - PLAYER // else if( ( PP[3][0] > x && PP[3][0] < x + width ) && ( PP[3][1] > y && PP[3][1] < y + height ) )//&& ( (x - player.x) > 0 ) ) { player.isColided = true; //player.isSpinning = false; // Collision On Right if( PP[3][0] > ( x + width/2 ) && ( PP[3][1] - y < ( x + width ) - PP[3][0] ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Bottom Left - Right Side"); player.x = ( x + width ) + 1; player.Vh = player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vh, player.Cr); } // Collision On Top else if( PP[3][1] < ( y + height/2 ) ) { Log.i("Colision", "Bottom Left - Top Side"); player.y = y - player.height; player.Vv = player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr); //player.Vh = -1 * ( player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr) ); int rs = x - player.x; //Log.i("RS", String.format("%d", rs)); //player.direction = -1; //player.isSpinning = true; if( rs > 0 ) { player.direction = -1; player.isSpinning = true; player.Vh = -1 * ( player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr) ); } if( rs < 0 ) { player.direction = 1; player.isSpinning = true; player.Vh = 1 * ( player.phy.getVelsoityWallColision(player.Vv, player.Cr) ); } player.rotateSpeed = 1 * rs; } //try { Thread.sleep(1000, 0); } //catch (InterruptedException e) {} return true; } else { player.isColided = false; player.isSpinning = true; } return false; }

  • SQL Server High Availability - Mirroring with MSCS?

    - by David
I'm looking at options for high-availability for my SQL Server-powered application. The requirements are: HA protection from storage failure. Data accessibility when one of the DB servers is undergoing software updates (e.g. planned outage for Windows Update / SQL Server service-packs). Must not involve much in the way of hardware procurement. The application is an ASP.NET web application. The web application's users have their own database instances. I've seen two main options: SQL Server failover clustering, and SQL Server mirroring. I understand that SQL Server Failover Clustering requires the purchasing of a shared disk array and doesn't offer any protection if the shared storage goes down (so the documentation recommends to set up a Mirroring between two clusters). Database Mirroring seems the cheaper option (as it only requires two database servers and a simple witness box) - but I've heard it doesn't work well when you have a large number of databases. The application I'm developing involves giving each client their own database for their application - there could be hundreds of databases. Setting up the mirroring is no problem thanks to the automation systems we have in place. My final point concerns how failover works with respect to client connections - SQL Server Failover Clustering uses MSCS which means that the cluster is invisible to clients - a connection attempt might fail during the failover, but a simple reconnect will have it working again. However mirroring, as far as I know, requires that the client be aware of the mirrored partners: if the client cannot connect to the primary server then it tries the secondary server. I'm wondering how this work with respect to Connection Pooling in ASP.NET applications - does the client connection failovering mean that there's a potential 2-second (assuming 2000ms TCP timeout policy) pause when the connection pool tries the primary server on every connection attempt? I read somewhere that Mirroring can be used on top of MSCS which means that the client does not need to be aware of mirroring (so there wouldn't be any potential delays during connection, and also that no changes would need to be made to the client, not even the connection string) - however I'm finding it hard to get documentation or white papers on this approach. But if true, then it means the best method is then Mirroring (for HA) with MSCS (for client ignorance and connection performance). ...but how does this scale to a server instance that might contain hundreds of mirrored databases?

  • How mod_cache working with "must-revalidate" and "max-age"?

    - by Dmitriy Sosunov
Quick question before I will explain my flow: ?an mod_cache perform revalidate with if-none-match only if max-age is expired in case if it configured in reverse proxy mode? My goal is to reduce a number of revalidation requests to our the origin server. For instance: The first request goes to the origin server and then mod_cache save a response in to the cache according to header cache-control: max-age. And only when max-age is expired then mod_cache will revalidate with if-none-match. Currently, mod_cache revalidate each request, regardless that max-age is defined or not. My configuration of Apache 2.4.3 (Windows), on linux I see the same behavior that I will show below. ServerName proxy.lo ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost Off Header set Vary "Accept, Content-Type, Content-Encoding, Accept-Language" RequestHeader set X-Forwarded-Proto "http" # modify header for user agent's Header set Cache-Control "private, no-cache, no-store, no-transform" CacheQuickHandler off CacheDefaultExpire 300 # the origin server do not provide last-modified CacheIgnoreNoLastMod On CacheIgnoreCacheControl On # the origin server define cache-control: private, no-store only for user agents # Therefore, I would like ignore those headers on the proxy server. CacheStorePrivate On CacheStoreNoStore On CacheEnable disk / CacheRoot "C:/Apache.Cache" CacheDirLevels 5 CacheDirLength 4 CacheMinExpire 15 CacheDetailHeader on CacheHeader on KeepAlive Off ProxyPass / http://origin.lo/ ProxyPassReverse / http://origin.lo/ Also, I have turned on debug log level to see how mod_cache handles a content for caching: I provided this to show that mod_proxy always decides that a content isn't fresh. Why?I provided this to show that mod_proxy always decide that a content isn't fresh. Why? max-age was provided (see below). • openvpn does not recover from disabling redirect-gateway

When I enable the redirect-gateway option on the server, restart openvpn, and restart the client software, the new default gateway is set on the client. When I then disable the redirect-gateway option in the server config, restart openvpn on the server, then on the client, the client no longer sets the old gateway, effectively breaking access to the outside world. Why could this be?

  • mixing different technologies using ARR reverse proxy

    - by Jaepetto
I'm currently trying to put together a proof of concept on mixing various technologies onto one web site in order to ease migrations and add flexibility. The idea is to create one 'mashup' site behind an IIS 7.5 ARR reverse proxy. For the time being the ARR reverse proxy forwards all request to our main site. The request are as follow: client -> ARR: Get / ARR -> Server 1: Get / Server 1 -> ARR: 200: /index.htm ARR -> client: 200: /index.htm ...so far so good. Let's say, I want to add a new site (root of another server) as a subsite of my main website. a simple inbound rule does the trick: <rule name="sub1" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="^mySubsite(.*)" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false" /> <action type="Rewrite" url="http://server2/{R:1}" /> </rule> The requests now are: client -> ARR: Get /mySubsite ARR -> Server 2: Get / Server 2 -> ARR: 200: /index.htm ARR -> client: 200: /index.htm ... still ok. The issue comes when the site on server2 sends a redirection (e.g. to a login page). In the case of SharePoint, it will redirect the user to: /_layouts/Authenticate.aspx?Source=%2F ...which does not exists: client -> ARR: Get /mySubsite ARR -> Server 2: Get / Server 2 -> ARR: 301: /_layouts/Authenticate.aspx?Source=%2F ARR -> client: 301: /_layouts/Authenticate.aspx?Source=%2F client -> ARR: Get /_layouts/Authenticate.aspx?Source=%2F ARR -> client: 404: Not Found Does anyone know a way write the outbound rule to rewrite the response from server 2 "301: /_layouts/Authenticate.aspx?Source=%2F" to "301: /mySubsite/_layouts/Authenticate.aspx?Source=%2FmySubsite%2F"?

  • Please help! Every Post link links to the most recent post Wordpress

    - by kwek-kwek
I got the site up on time, with one blog post up. Later I added another one and tested it. Big problem! Hi all, I am trying to create a simple axis web service. I am using axis 1.2.1, JDK 6, Weblogic. Everything seems to be fine except invoking the web service. When I try to invoke the service it gives me an 'Unautherized' error. Any ideas of what am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance AxisFault faultCode: {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}HTTP faultSubcode: faultString: (401)Unauthorized faultActor: faultNode: faultDetail: {}:return code: 401 {http://xml.apache.org/axis/}HttpErrorCode:401 (401)Unauthorized at org.apache.axis.transport.http.HTTPSender.readFromSocket(HTTPSender.java:744) at org.apache.axis.transport.http.HTTPSender.invoke(HTTPSender.java:144) at org.apache.axis.strategies.InvocationStrategy.visit(InvocationStrategy.java:32) at org.apache.axis.SimpleChain.doVisiting(SimpleChain.java:118) at org.apache.axis.SimpleChain.invoke(SimpleChain.java:83) at org.apache.axis.client.AxisClient.invoke(AxisClient.java:165) at org.apache.axis.client.Call.invokeEngine(Call.java:2765) at org.apache.axis.client.Call.invoke(Call.java:2748) at org.apache.axis.client.Call.invoke(Call.java:2424) at org.apache.axis.client.Call.invoke(Call.java:2347) at org.apache.axis.client.Call.invoke(Call.java:1804)

  • Build failing - VS2010 solution on TFS2008

    - by Nick
I have migrated a VS2008 ASP.NET MVC solution to VS2010/MVC2/.NET 4.0 The solution builds locally and all unit tests pass. Our TFS server is still TFS2008 and I am having problems getting the CI build to pass. The projects all build successfully, the unit tests all run and pass but the Running Tests item fails. I followed this blog post on how to get the build working and I'm almost there. Combing the log file for failures I have found the following: Test Run Completed. Passed 1101 ------------ Total 1101 Results file: C:\Documents and Settings\apptemetrybuild\Local Settings\Temp\Client Portal 3\CI\TestResults\apptemetrybuild_ATT15DEV01 2010-04-27 09_09_59_Any CPU_Release.trx Test Settings: Default Test Settings Waiting to publish... • JTwitter OAuth signpost example

    - by RenegadeAndy
Hey. I believe JTwitter supports OAuth to authenticate against a developer account , however i cannot get any of them working. The JTwitter docs say signpost is the supported method - yet I cannot seem to find the OAuthSignpostClient class they use even after adding the signpost libs: OAuthSignpostClient client = new OAuthSignpostClient(JTWITTER_OAUTH_KEY, JTWITTER_OAUTH_SECRET, "oob"); Twitter jtwit = new Twitter("yourtwittername", client); // open the authorisation page in the user's browser client.authorizeDesktop(); // get the pin String v = client.askUser("Please enter the verification PIN from Twitter"); client.setAuthorizationCode(v); // Optional: store the authorisation token details Object accessToken = client.getAccessToken(); // use the API! jtwit.setStatus("Messing about in Java"); Has anybody code that code segment working? Please help Andy

  • Connection Pooling is Busted

    - by MightyZot
A few weeks ago we started getting complaints about performance in an application that has performed very well for many years.  The application is a n-tier application that uses ADODB with the SQLOLEDB provider to talk to a SQL Server database.  Our object model is written in such a way that each public method validates security before performing requested actions, so there is a significant number of queries executed to get information about file cabinets, retrieve images, create workflows, etc.  (PaperWise is a document management and workflow system.)  A common factor for these customers is that they have remote offices connected via MPLS networks. Naturally, the first thing we looked at was the query performance in SQL Profiler.  All of the queries were executing within expected timeframes, most of them were so fast that the duration in SQL Profiler was zero.  After getting nowhere with SQL Profiler, the situation was escalated to me.  I decided to take a peek with Process Monitor.  Procmon revealed some “gaps” in the TCP/IP traffic.  There were notable delays between send and receive pairs.  The send and receive pairs themselves were quite snappy, but quite often there was a notable delay between a receive and the next send.  You might expect some delay because, presumably, the application is doing some thinking in-between the pairs.  But, comparing the procmon data at the remote locations with the procmon data for workstations on the local network showed that the remote workstations were significantly delayed.  Procmon also showed a high number of disconnects. Wireshark traces showed that connections to the database were taking between 75ms and 150ms.  Not only that, but connections to a file share containing images were taking 2 seconds!  So, I asked about a trust.  Sure enough there was a trust between two domains and the file share was on the second domain.  Joining a remote workstation to the domain hosting the share containing images alleviated the time delay in accessing the file share.  Removing the trust had no affect on the connections to the database. Microsoft Network Monitor includes filters that parse TDS packets.  TDS is the protocol that SQL Server uses to communicate.  There is a certificate exchange and some SSL that occurs during authentication.  All of this was evident in the network traffic.  After staring at the network traffic for a while, and examining packets, I decided to call it a night.  On the way home that night, something about the traffic kept nagging at me.  Then it dawned on me…at the beginning of the dance of packets between the client and the server all was well.  Connection pooling was working and I could see multiple queries getting executed on the same connection and ethereal port.  After a particular query, connecting to two different servers, I noticed that ADODB and SQLOLEDB started making repeated connections to the database on different ethereal ports.  SQL Server would execute a single query and respond on a port, then open a new port and execute the next query.  Connection pooling appeared to be broken. The next morning I wrote a test to confirm my hypothesis.  Turns out that the sequence causing the connection nastiness goes something like this: Make a connection to the database. Open a result set that returns enough records to require multiple roundtrips to the server. For each result, query for some other data in the database (this will open a new implicit connection.) Close the inner result set and repeat for every item in the original result set. Close the original connection. Provided that the first result set returns enough data to require multiple roundtrips to the server, ADODB and SQLOLEDB will start making new connections to the database for each query executed in the loop.  Originally, I thought this might be due to Microsoft’s denial of service (ddos) attack protection.  After turning those features off to no avail, I eventually thought to switch my queries to client-side cursors instead of server-side cursors.  Server-side cursors are the default, by the way.  Voila!  After switching to client-side cursors, the disconnects were gone and the above sequence yielded two connections as expected. While the real problem is the amount of time it takes to make connections over these MPLS networks (100ms on average), switching to client-side cursors made the problem go away.  Believe it or not, this is actually documented by Microsoft, and rather difficult to find.  (At least it was while we were trying to troubleshoot the problem!)  So, if you’re noticing performance issues on slower networks, or networks with slower switching, take a look at the traffic in a tool like Microsoft Network Monitor.  If you notice a high number of disconnects, and you’re using fire-hose or server-side cursors, then try switching to client-side cursors and you may see the problem go away. Most likely, Microsoft believes this to be appropriate behavior, because ADODB can’t guarantee that all of the data has been retrieved when you execute the inner queries.  I’m not convinced, though, because the problem remains even after replacing all of the implicit connections with explicit connections and closing those connections in-between each of the inner queries.  In that case, there doesn’t seem to be a reason why ADODB can’t use a single connection from the connection pool to make the additional queries, bringing the total number of connections to two.  Instead ADO appears to make an assumption about the state of the connection. I’ve reported the behavior to Microsoft and am awaiting to hear from the appropriate team, so that I can demonstrate the problem.  Maybe they can explain to us why this is appropriate behavior.  :)

  • Injection with google guice does not work anymore after obfuscation with proguard

    - by sme
Has anyone ever tried to combine the use of google guice with obfuscation (in particular proguard)? The obfuscated version of my code does not work with google guice as guice complains about missing type parameters. This information seems to be erased by the transformation step that proguard does, even when the relevant classes are excluded from the obfuscation. The stack trace looks like this: com.google.inject.CreationException: Guice creation errors: 1) Cannot inject a Provider that has no type parameter while locating com.google.inject.Provider for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setPasswordPanelProvider(SourceFile:499) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setPasswordPanelProvider(SourceFile:499) while locating de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.o.a(SourceFile:38) 2) Cannot inject a Provider that has no type parameter while locating com.google.inject.Provider for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setWindTurbineAccessGroupProvider(SourceFile:509) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setWindTurbineAccessGroupProvider(SourceFile:509) while locating de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.o.a(SourceFile:38) 2 errors at com.google.inject.internal.Errors.throwCreationExceptionIfErrorsExist(Errors.java:354) at com.google.inject.InjectorBuilder.initializeStatically(InjectorBuilder.java:152) at com.google.inject.InjectorBuilder.build(InjectorBuilder.java:105) at com.google.inject.Guice.createInjector(Guice.java:92) at com.google.inject.Guice.createInjector(Guice.java:69) at com.google.inject.Guice.createInjector(Guice.java:59) I tried to create a small example (without using guice) that seems to reproduce the problem: package de.repower.common; import java.lang.reflect.Method; import java.lang.reflect.ParameterizedType; import java.lang.reflect.Type; class SomeClass<S> { } public class ParameterizedTypeTest { public void someMethod(SomeClass<Integer> param) { System.out.println("value: " + param); System.setProperty("my.dummmy.property", "hallo"); } private static void checkParameterizedMethod(ParameterizedTypeTest testObject) { System.out.println("checking parameterized method ..."); Method[] methods = testObject.getClass().getMethods(); for (Method method : methods) { if (method.getName().equals("someMethod")) { System.out.println("Found method " + method.getName()); Type[] types = method.getGenericParameterTypes(); Type parameterType = types[0]; if (parameterType instanceof ParameterizedType) { Type parameterizedType = ((ParameterizedType) parameterType).getActualTypeArguments()[0]; System.out.println("Parameter: " + parameterizedType); System.out.println("Class: " + ((Class) parameterizedType).getName()); } else { System.out.println("Failed: type ist not instance of ParameterizedType"); } } } } public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Starting ..."); try { ParameterizedTypeTest someInstance = new ParameterizedTypeTest(); checkParameterizedMethod(someInstance); } catch (SecurityException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } If you run this code unsbfuscated, the output looks like this: Starting ... checking parameterized method ... Found method someMethod Parameter: class java.lang.Integer Class: java.lang.Integer But running the version obfuscated with proguard yields: Starting ... checking parameterized method ... Found method someMethod Failed: type ist not instance of ParameterizedType These are the options I used for obfuscation: -injars classes_eclipse\methodTest.jar -outjars classes_eclipse\methodTestObfuscated.jar -libraryjars 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\rt.jar' -dontskipnonpubliclibraryclasses -dontskipnonpubliclibraryclassmembers -dontshrink -printusage classes_eclipse\shrink.txt -dontoptimize -dontpreverify -verbose -keep class **.ParameterizedTypeTest.class { <fields>; <methods>; } -keep class ** { <fields>; <methods>; } # Keep - Applications. Best regards, Stefan

hey, I met these latex format problem, anyone can offer some help? the .tex file: \begin{table}{} \renewcommand{\arraystretch}{1.1} \caption{Cambridge Flow feature definition and description} \label{cambridge-feature}} \centering \begin{tabular}{|c|c|} \hline\bfseries Abbreviation &\bfseries Description\\ \hline serv-port & Server port\\ \hline clnt-port & Client port\\ \hline push-pkts-serv & count of all packets with\\ & push bit set in TCP header (server to client)\\ \hline init-win-bytes-clnt & the total number of bytes \\ & sent in initial window (client to server)\\ \hline init-win-bytes-serv & the total number of bytes sent\\ & in initial window (server to client)\\ \hline avg-seg-size-clnt & average segment size: \\ & data bytes devided by number of packets\\ \hline IP-bytes-med-clnt & median of total bytes in IP packet\\ \hline act-data-pkt-serv & count of packet with at least one byte \\ & of TCP data playload (server to client)\\ \hline data-bytes-var-clnt & variance of total \\ & bytes in packets (client to server)\\ \hline min-seg-size-serv & minimum segment size \\ & observed (server to client)\\ \hline RTT-samples-serv & total number of RTT samples\\ & found (server to client),\\ & {\bf see also \cite{Moore05discriminators}}\\ \hline push-pkts-clnt & count of all packets with push bit set \\ & in TCP header (server to client)\\ \hline \end{tabular} \end{table} and the error message: ! Extra }, or forgotten \endgroup. \@endfloatbox ...pagefalse \outer@nobreak \egroup \color@endbox l.892 \end{table} I've deleted a group-closing symbol because it seems to be spurious, as in $x}$'. But perhaps the } is legitimate and you forgot something else, as in\hbox{$x}'. In such cases the way to recover is to insert both the forgotten and the deleted material, e.g., by typing `I$}'. there is no $ in my table, also this { are matching with the }, and also after I comment the citation, the error remains. anyone can offer help? really appreciate all the comments! ! • serving large file using select, epoll or kqueue

    - by xask
Nginx uses epoll, or other multiplexing techniques(select) for its handling multiple clients, i.e it does not spawn a new thread for every request unlike apache. I tried to replicate the same in my own test program using select. I could accept connections from multiple client by creating a non-blocking socket and using select to decide which client to serve. My program would simply echo their data back to them .It works fine for small data transfers (some bytes per client) The problem occurs when I need to send a large file over a connection to the client. Since i have only one thread to serve all client till the time I am finished reading the file and writing it over to the socket i cannot resume serving other client. Is there a known solution to this problem, or is it best to create a thread for every such request ?

  • T-SQL Dynamic SQL and Temp Tables

    - by George
It looks like #temptables created using dynamic SQL via the EXECUTE string method have a different scope and can't be referenced by "fixed" SQLs in the same stored procedure. However, I can reference a temp table created by a dynamic SQL statement in a subsequence dynamic SQL but it seems that a stored procedure does not return a query result to a calling client unless the SQL is fixed. A simple 2 table scenario: I have 2 tables. Let's call them Orders and Items. Order has a Primary key of OrderId and Items has a Primary Key of ItemId. Items.OrderId is the foreign key to identify the parent Order. An Order can have 1 to n Items. I want to be able to provide a very flexible "query builder" type interface to the user to allow the user to select what Items he want to see. The filter criteria can be based on fields from the Items table and/or from the parent Order table. If an Item meets the filter condition including and condition on the parent Order if one exists, the Item should be return in the query as well as the parent Order. Usually, I suppose, most people would construct a join between the Item table and the parent Order tables. I would like to perform 2 separate queries instead. One to return all of the qualifying Items and the other to return all of the distinct parent Orders. The reason is two fold and you may or may not agree. The first reason is that I need to query all of the columns in the parent Order table and if I did a single query to join the Orders table to the Items table, I would be repoeating the Order information multiple times. Since there are typically a large number of items per Order, I'd like to avoid this because it would result in much more data being transfered to a fat client. Instead, as mentioned, I would like to return the two tables individually in a dataset and use the two tables within to populate a custom Order and child Items client objects. (I don't know enough about LINQ or Entity Framework yet. I build my objects by hand). The second reason I would like to return two tables instead of one is because I already have another procedure that returns all of the Items for a given OrderId along with the parent Order and I would like to use the same 2-table approach so that I could reuse the client code to populate my custom Order and Client objects from the 2 datatables returned. What I was hoping to do was this: Construct a dynamic SQL string on the Client which joins the orders table to the Items table and filters appropriate on each table as specified by the custom filter created on the Winform fat-client app. The SQL build on the client would have looked something like this: TempSQL = " INSERT INTO #ItemsToQuery OrderId, ItemsId FROM Orders, Items WHERE Orders.OrderID = Items.OrderId AND /* Some unpredictable Order filters go here */ AND /* Some unpredictable Items filters go here */ " Then, I would call a stored procedure, CREATE PROCEDURE GetItemsAndOrders(@tempSql as text) Execute (@tempSQL) --to create the #ItemsToQuery table SELECT * FROM Items WHERE Items.ItemId IN (SELECT ItemId FROM #ItemsToQuery) SELECT * FROM Orders WHERE Orders.OrderId IN (SELECT DISTINCT OrderId FROM #ItemsToQuery) The problem with this approach is that #ItemsToQuery table, since it was created by dynamic SQL, is inaccessible from the following 2 static SQLs and if I change the static SQLs to dynamic, no results are passed back to the fat client. 3 around come to mind but I'm look for a better one: 1) The first SQL could be performed by executing the dynamically constructed SQL from the client. The results could then be passed as a table to a modified version of the above stored procedure. I am familiar with passing table data as XML. If I did this, the stored proc could then insert the data into a temporary table using a static SQL that, because it was created by dynamic SQL, could then be queried without issue. (I could also investigate into passing the new Table type param instead of XML.) However, I would like to avoid passing up potentially large lists to a stored procedure. 2) I could perform all the queries from the client. The first would be something like this: SELECT Items.* FROM Orders, Items WHERE Order.OrderId = Items.OrderId AND (dynamic filter) SELECT Orders.* FROM Orders, Items WHERE Order.OrderId = Items.OrderId AND (dynamic filter) This still provides me with the ability to reuse my client sided object-population code because the Orders and Items continue to be returned in two different tables. I have a feeling to, that I might have some options using a Table data type within my stored proc, but that is also new to me and I would appreciate a little bit of spoon feeding on that one. If you even scanned this far in what I wrote, I am surprised, but if so, I woul dappreciate any of your thoughts on how to accomplish this best.
