• Any particular reason why FaceBook's Subscribe Button isn't showing on my web page?

  I got this FaceBook profile for my upcoming website and I can't get the Subscribe button to show, NOT EVEN ON FaceBook's page! http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003492130845 Now, if you go here on FaceBook's page where we build the Subscribe button: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/subscribe/ And add the above link, it will show nothing. I enabled subscribing and I also created myself a page, linked to the same profile: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Axonn-Says/372194956141393 But not even the page works ::- /. LATER EDIT: I temporarily added 2 other Subscribe buttons on my website to demonstrate that it works for example for Mark Zuck's page and to demonstrate that there are no JS conflicts. The 2 buttons appeared ok, but my button still didn't show up.

• Guaranteeing the onmouseout event to fire

  Hello everybody, I'm currently developing a web application and have run into a little problem. I'm using ExtJS, but I believe this to be a general JS question. When the cursor enters an HTML element, the onmouseover event is fired, when the cursor leaves that element, onmouseout is triggered. So far, so good. Unfortunately, it seems one can't fully rely on this behaviour. Very quick mouse movements can cause the event not to fire (as does repositioning the cursor with a pen tablet, for example). What are the best practices to handle these issues? Do I need to monitor all onmousemove events and manually keep track of where the cursor was last and fire the appropriate onmouseout event myself?

• How do you determine up/down latency of a web app.

  I am trying to work out how to calculate the latency of requests through a web-app (Javascript) to a .net webservice. Currently I am essentially trying to sync both client and server time, which when hitting the webservice I can look at the offset (which would accurately show the 'up' latency. The problem is - when you sync the time's, you have to factor in latency for that also. So currently I am timeing the sync request (round trip) and dividing by 2, in an attempt to get the 'up' latency...and then modify the sync accordingly. This works on the assumption that latency is symmetrical, which it isn't. Does anyone know a procedure that would be able to determine specifically the up/down latency of a JS http request to a .net service? If it needs to involve multiple handshakes thats fine, what ever is as accurate as possible. Thanks!!

• Edit PDF online and save and form data to server

  Hello, I have some PDF documents which are being displayed in the browser, with some fields already being pre-populated from the database using iTextSharp (we are running Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, SQL Server 2008, and ASP.NET 2.0/2.5 with C#). Our clients need to be able to fill in the remaining fields and save the PDF to the server. I have considered the following possibilities: 1.) Somehow using iTextSharp to parse the form fields, grab all the form data and save it to the database on submit. 2.) Adding a submit button to the PDF itself using LiveCycle with some sort of JS click event to save the FDF/XFDF/XDP/XML data either to the database or to a flat file on the server. I am currently unsure as to what the best approach would be, what would work, or how to implement any of these possible solutions, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  I'm starting to see more and more script references show up like so: <script type="text/javascript" src="//somedomain.com/somescript.js"></script> Note the lack of http: at the beginning of the src attribute. It seems to work fine and avoids the messy requirement of detecting http vs https, but I've never actually seen this uri format referenced anywhere. Where did it come from? Is this behavior documented anywhere? Is it guaranteed to work in any browser?

• jQuery event fires on doc ready

  I am trying to set the click event of a button on my form and for some reason I am getting weird behavior. When I bind the click event to a function that takes no arguments, things seem to work fine. But when I bind the event with a function that takes an argument, the event fires on document ready and on click. Any ideas? Questions I have in my mind are : How does browser actually caches stuff, does it request for to see if the cached file has changed on the server or not, What is the Ideal way for a developer to make use of browser chaching to its full, but also to be able to push new changes on the site with no hassle at all. I think if browser somehow chaches my CSS and JS and Images, and then just makes a checks for their modification to the server everytime, this can sort the issue. but I am not sure how to do it, waiting for interesting answers :)

  I have a page with a menu that uses JQuery AJAX calls to populate the page with. To reflect any changes I update the URL with a #... instead of ?... or /... So an URL that originally reads : htpp://localhost/pages/index/id=1 would look like : http://localhost/#pages/index/id=1. If a user bookmarks this, and later comes back to the page, I wonder if it's possible to use the second URL in my route decoding, or if I have to load it blank, then use the same JS/Ajax to populate the page? In my mind it is problematic to use Ajax in these cases if a user copies the link and mails it to a friend with JavaScript disabled. edit#1: Fixed some spelling.

  I'm trying to implement a calendar with Ruby and Javascript in Rails. I'm using a calendar helper that creates a calendar with given year and month and events as parameters (<%= calendar(:year => 2012, :month => 4, :events => @events %>). I also have three buttons next, today and previous with which the user should be able to navigate the calendar with. I am also going to implement some js that makes it possible to select dates in the calendar. So what I would like to do is to insert the calendar in the DOM with javascript in order to generate a new calendar when the user clicks one of the buttons. That way I will be able to control the behavior of the buttons and add the select functionality. The problem is that I can't just insert my erb code in a javascript plus I'm not even sure it's the right way to go? Any suggestions are appreciated!

As a result, I need to use the new .live() option. • Zend Framework on a Shared Host

  I am trying to push my first ZF project to my shared hosting provider. I have done a lot of testing on my home server and everything is working great. My issue is that I do not know how to set up my .htaccess files on the shared hosting provider to make it work correctly. The ZF documentation says to configure my Apache config VirtualServer DocumentRoot to /whatever/path/project-folder/public, but I don't have that kind of access. How do I get around this? I have seen http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1115547/zend-framework-on-shared-hosting but none of those solutions have worked for me. • Taking web page screen shot in Windows 8 Metro app

  I'm trying to take screen shot of web page in Windows 8 Metro app. So far the only helpful control is the WebView. Unfortunately it does not contain any method like DrawToBitmap (known from Forms WebBrowser control). Am I missing something? Different approach would focus on injecting some JS (e.g. html2canvas) to page rendered in WebView but I don't think it is possible due to security reasons. I would greatly appreciate any help.

• Design interoperable web services

  Hi everyone, I'm designing a set of web services to allow our clients to connect from their apps to one of our systems. Our clients have their apps developed in all varieties of frameworks (.NET, Java, PHP, Python and even the occasional all JS app), so obviously WS is the way to go. Investigating a little about truly interop WS I've found that the way to go is to design first the WSDL and XSD and derive the implementations from there. What i'm really looking for is guidance if this is really the way to go. I've read that WCF creates interoperable WS but i'm not a fan of MS creating something standard. Should i use WCF or there is a good set of tools for designing WSDL and XSD without the pain i'm expecting. Thanks in advance

  We're experiencing a strange problem with our current Varnish configuration. 4x Web Servers (IIS 6.5 on Windows 2003 Server, each installed on a Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5450 @ 3.00GHz Quad Core, 4GB RAM) 3x Varnish Servers (varnish-3.0.3 revision 9e6a70f on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS - 64 bit/precise, Kernel Linux 3.2.0-29-generic, each installed on a Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5450 @ 3.00GHz Quad Core, 4GB RAM) The Varnish Servers performance are awfully bad in general, to the point that if we shut down one of them the other two are unable to fullfill all the requests and start to skip beats resulting in pending requests, timeouts, 404, etc. What can we do to improve our Varnish performance? • Codebase for making a Flash-based interactive map with SVG vector data?

  I'm looking for a way to take SVG path info (basically a string of coordinates) and dynamically draw it with Actionscript. Icing on the cake would be if those shapes could detect mouse events to trigger JS and dynamically change their appearance (fill, stroke, etc...). I'm currently trying something similar to this (http://raphaeljs.com/australia.html) using SVG but it's just too slow in IE. I've also tried Google's SVG Web (http://code.google.com/p/svgweb/) which basically does exactly what I'm looking for (it converts SVG to Flash in IE) but again, it's sloooooow - which is why I'm considering doing the whole shebang in Flash. Anyone know of some links to point me in the right direction?
