  Hi I want to an andriod application(a port from a windows mobile phone) but I need to learn a couple things How to program for different screen sizes and resolutions (so my controls get bigger smaller or whatever) How to dynamically create controls such labels and checkboxes ( and checkbox listeners) How to create a menu How to create a context menu( a menu when you right click on the screen it pops up) how to program for landscape and portrait mode How to consume a webservice Most of what I am after is mostly the display aspect as all my logic is on a webservice so I could port all my stuff to different phones faster. So I am looking for tutorials or a book to get me up to speed to do these things

• Best practices for parsing HTML from Wikipedia for iPhone viewing?

  I am building an iPhone Wikipeida game app, that requires modifying the default Wiki HTML a little bit (mostly simplifying the page). So far I am directly downloading the HTML output from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_Foo to a python Google App Engine, and then modify its CSS and HTML structure, cache it, and finally output to iPhone. It works but I find this method quite tedious, there must be a better method? Please note that I use App Engine not just for parsing the Wiki, but the game also requires it to keep the stores...etc, hence not a overkill. Also, I would prefer doing all the work with python on App Engine, to keep the iPhone client as thin and mobile as possible (XML on iPhone is a big no fun) Thanks a lot.

  I am investigating the possibility of image processing to identify certain objects and also count them in an image. I will be given a picture and I need to identify the number of boxes present in that image. Does anybody have any experience with any Machine Vision/ Image Processing libraries like ImageJ, Fiji, JAI, jMagick ,Java Vision Toolkit? Which do you think is best suited for the job? • MC75 using symbol.imaging.device libraries for program

  UPDATE: I found another library in the Windows Mobile - CameraCaptureDialog - this did the job - never did figure out the zero length available devices... Hi all, I have a .net application running on a symbol mc75 (motorola) using the scanner. I am now trying to add functionality for the camera and I am running into issues. To find the 'devices' you are supposed to use the library's 'available devices' function. With the barcode it is symbol.barcode.devices.availabledevices and it returns two items (you can scan from the scanner or using the camera device) However, when I do the camera library it does not find any devices - symbol.imaging.devices.availabledevices returns 0 I can take a picture using the software on the mc75, so I know the functionality is there, I just can't figure out how to get to it programmatically.... Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for any help!

For instance, if your phone number is 555-555-5555 and your wireless carrier is Verizon, you can send an email to [email protected] and it will show up as a text message. I want to be able to include a newline in the body of the message. How do I do this? Also please note that my ASP.Net program gets the message from a database (MS SQL Server) so what I really need to know is what characters to include in the message body when I store it in my database. • Django: do I need to do HttpResponseRedirect to render a simple string after a POST?

  I've got a mobile app that makes POST requests to a Django site. I want to return a simple string (not a template-based page) after the app makes the POST request, saying 'Success' or 'Failure' as appropriate. However I know that after a POST request in Django you're supposed to do a HttpResponseRedirect. But, do I really need to redirect to another page and write a new function to handle it, all to output a string? And if so, how do I pass the success/failure status of the app in the HttpResponseRedirect, since it's only supposed to take one argument? Thanks!

• Generating the permutations from a number of Characters

  I'm working on a predictive text solution and have all the words being retrieved from a Trie based on input for a certain string of characters, i.e. "at" will give all words formed with "at" as a prefix. The problem that I have now, is that we are also supposed to return all other possibilities from pressing these 2 buttons, Button 2 and button 8 on the mobile phone, which would also give words formed with, "au, av, bt, bu, bv, ct, cu, cv" (most of which won't have any actual words. Can anyone suggest a solution and how I would go about doing this for calculating the different permutations? (at the moment, I'm prompting the user to enter the prefix (not using a GUI right now)

  I am using a "shake" function from github - and it has a detection that is browser-based javascript. //feature detect this.hasDeviceMotion = 'ondevicemotion' in window; This though yields true even on Chrome on OS X. It feels strange, since I am not willing to shake my monitor on my desktop. Safari on OS X gives me "false" in return when testing. I have searched but not been able to find out why Chrome decided to take this path. It bugs me. Is there a better way to make this detection? Not all "mobile devices" has shake as well.. or does not let the browser have that capability, as it does not seem to work in windows phones.

• Resizing the Camera Preview

  I have implemented a camera application, which will show the preview in the entire screen of the device. But my requirement is to show the Camera preview in a small screen. My device resolution is 800x480(WxH) i.e, Nexus one. I can able to show the preview in the entire screen without scale down the preview. Its coming perfectly, but when i try show the preview in small screens(part of my total mobile screen), the preview is getting stretched and not looking good. Is there any way to show the preview correctly in a small screen. I think we need to scale down the image preview. But when i try to scale down the image preview, the android system itself doesn't allowing to set the scaled preview size. Could any one please help me how to scale the image preview in small screen.

WSAGetLastError() returns error numbers for errors that occur with sockets in windows. So I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to replace this function in standard c++?   Hello, I have "BackUpContacts.db" database in SQLiteDatabase, it has a table named "ContactInfo" with column names ContactId, ContactName, MobilePhone1, MobilePhone2, OfficePhone1, OfficePhone2, OfficePhone3, HomePhone1, HomePhone2 and TokenId. What i want is to transfer all data of "ContactInfo" table to the mysql database system at some server (means server has also a table similar to "ContactInfo", where all data of "ContactInfo" will be copied). The last important thing which i want is that, whenever i want to get contacts(of a specified TokenId) i can backup all those from server to the mobile device in an xml file. in short, can here anyone help me how to transfer sqlite db to a web server?

• Creating a map in HTML, CSS, SVG?

  Hi, I would like to create a web based regional map that would enable the user to click in order to choose a region on the map, and will also have some visual effect (resizing, etc) when hovering over one of the regions. I want the map to work on desktops and mobile devices. I'm having doubts regarding the best technology to use here when I'm mainly considering traditional image maps vs.SVG. Image map are more widely supported, but any animation that effects only a single area in the map must be hacked over. SVG is a more natural fit, but is not supported by Android (old IEs can work using svgweb) Any advice? Any other option I'm overlooking?

  I know I have seen apps that log me in using Facebook but never present me with an authorization screen. I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to do this with Windows Phone 7. The best I have been able to get is using the Facebook for C# SDK to get the authorization screen in a WebView. This looks hideous and the page does not even appear to be mobile ready.   I'm building a website that doesn't require a database because a REST API "is the database". (Except you don't want to be putting site-specific things in there, since the API is used by mostly mobile clients) However there's a few things that normally would be put in a database, for example the "jobs" page. You have master list view, and the detail views for each job, and it should be easy to add new job entries. (not necessarily via a CMS, but that would be awesome) e.g. example.com/careers/ and example.com/careers/77/ I could just hardcode this stuff in templates, but that's no DRY- you have to update the master template and the detail template every time. What do you guys think? Maybe a YAML file? Or any better ideas? Thx

• Can I include both Apache Axis 1 and 2 libraries in the same project?

  If it sounds like a ridiculous idea then it is. The client only wants to have to install one project on their server. Our web service will be bridging between mobile phones and various SOAP services made in .NET, Apache Axis 1 and 2, which rely on standards to transfer files such as MTOM and DIME. I am looking for an 'architecture' trick, such as develop the Axis 1 calls in a separate project and compile as a jar, to then pass it into the Axis 2 project.... Hmmm. Anything rather than having to download the source code for Axis 1 & 2 and compile them using the same xml libraries, etc. "It can't be done" is an acceptable answer. Thanks!
