  • DOM Elements with same id and jQuery

    - by Steve
    Hi I have multiple elements with the same structure in my application. Second div element's id varies as per the comment id in the db which is unique. There are elements with the id 'vote_up' and 'vote_down'. This gets repeated for each comment.What happens is that, as I mentioned, there are multiple comments. I want to perform an Ajax request. First of this structure functions properly using ajax, but the rest does an http request. Btw I am developing a rails application and I am using jQuery. <div id="post_comment"> john<i> says </i> Comment<br/> <div id="comment_10_div"> **<form action="/comments/vote_up" id="vote_up" method="post">** <div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"> <input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="w873BgYHLxQmadUalzMRUC+1ql4AtP3U7f78dT8x9ho=" /> </div> <input id="Comment_place_id" name="Comment[post_id]" type="hidden" value="3" /> <input id="Comment_id" name="Comment[id]" type="hidden" value="10" /> <input id="Comment_user_id" name="Comment[user_id]" type="hidden" value="2" /> <input name="commit" type="submit" value="Vote up" /> </form> <label id="comment_10">10</label> **<form action="/comments/vote_down" id="vote_down" method="post">** <div style="margin:0;padding:0;display:inline"> <input name="authenticity_token" type="hidden" value="w873BgYHLxQmadUalzMRUC+1ql4AtP3U7f78dT8x9ho=" /> </div> <input id="Comment_place_id" name="Comment[place_id]" type="hidden" value="3" /> <input id="Comment_id" name="Comment[id]" type="hidden" value="10" /> <input id="Comment_user_id" name="Comment[user_id]" type="hidden" value="2" /> <input name="commit" type="submit" value="Vote Down" /> </form> </div> Can you please help me to solve this Thanks

  • NameError: uninitialized constant Nokogiri::HTML::DocumentFragment

    - by Mike Sutton
About three hours ago I started seeing the above error in my production server. It comes from a call to the sanitize gem: vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/../../activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:276:in 'load_missing_constant' vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/../../activesupport/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:468:in `const_missing' vendor/gems/sanitize-1.2.0/lib/sanitize.rb:91:in `clean!' vendor/gems/sanitize-1.2.0/lib/sanitize.rb:84:in `clean' vendor/gems/sanitize-1.2.0/lib/sanitize.rb:49:in `clean' app/helpers/application_helper.rb:28:in `display_none' app/views/main/_blogs.html.erb:13:in `_run_erb_47app47views47main47_blogs46html46erb' The error only occurs on the production server (linux), not my development machine (windows) I tried rolling back my latest deployment but it didn't fix it. I've updated to sanitize 1.2.0 (which was the latest version brought down by gem update sanitize, though I note my host is running 1.3.6. Can anyone provide any clues to help fix this?

  • Define a regex, which matches one digit twice and all others once

    - by Amin
As part of a larger regex I would like to match the following restrictions: The string has 11 digits All digits are numbers Within the first 10 digits one number [0-9] (and one only!) must be listed twice This means the following should match: 12345678914 12235879600 Whereas these should not: 12345678903 -> none of the numbers at digits 1 to 10 appears twice 14427823482 -> one number appears more than twice 72349121762 -> two numbers appear twice I have tried to use a lookahead, but all I'm managing is that the regex counts a certain digit, i.e.: (?!.*0\1{2}) That does not do what I need. Is my query even possible with regex?

  • Using Gems with MacRuby

    - by Craig Williams
How do you use gems from a MacRuby .5 application on Snow Leopard? Do I need to specify the gem path? If so, how do I do this? Best scenario is to package the gems inside the application so the user would not have to install them when the app is distributed.

  • How do I reconnect to Memcache when forking in rails?

    - by Daniel Huckstep
I have a rails 3 application, and a script called by rails runner. This script forks and does some stuff in other processes. I do the proper thing with ActiveRecord before forking, where I disconnect-fork-reconnect and all that jazz. My question is I also use memcache for the Rails.cache but should I be disconnecting-reconnecting that too for my forks? If so, how would I go about that in the rails way.

  • How do I serve nested static content on Heroku?

    - by Matthew Murdoch
I have a rails application with static content in the public directory (e.g. public/index.html) and additional static content in nested subdirectories (e.g. public/one/two/index.html). All the static content is served correctly if I run it locally via script/server but when I upload it to Heroku the top-level page loads correctly but the nested content returns a 404. I've found a number of resources (for example this question) which discuss static content in rails but they all seem to assume a fairly simple structure with a single directory containing all the files. Is there any way I can fix this?

  • Rails - How do I write this string condition as an array condition

    - by adam
named_scope :correct, :include => :correction, :conditions => "checked_at IS NOT NULL AND corrections.id IS NULL" On a side note I have googled loads and looked through books but i cant seem to find a list of all the various types of conditions you can use and how they differ when implenting them as strings, arrays or hashes. Is there a list of the syntax anywhere?

  • Updating extra attributes in a has_many, :through relationship using Rails

    - by Robbie
I've managed to set up a many-to-many relationship between the following models Characters Skills PlayerSkills PlayerSkills, right now, has an attribute that Skills don't normally have: a level. The models look something like this (edited for conciseness): class PlayerSkill < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :character belongs_to :skill end class Skill < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :player_skills has_many :characters, :through => :player_skills attr_accessible :name, :description end class Character < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_many :player_skills has_many :skills, :through => :player_skills end So nothing too fancy in the models... The controller is also very basic at this point... it's pretty much a stock update action. The form I'm looking to modify is characters#edit. Right now it renders a series of checkboxes which add/remove skills from the characters. This is great, but the whole point of using has_many :through was to track a "level" as well. Here is what I have so far: - form_for @character do |f| = f.error_messages %p = f.label :name %br = f.text_field :name %p = f.label :race %br = f.text_field :race %p = f.label :char_class %br = f.text_field :char_class %p - @skills.each do |skill| = check_box_tag "character[skill_ids][]", skill.id, @character.skills.include?(skill) =h skill.name %br %p = f.submit After it renders "skill.name", I need it to print a text_field that updates player_skill. The problem, of course, is that player_skill may or may not exist! (Depending on if the box was already ticked when you loaded the form!) From everything I've read, has_many :through is great because it allows you to treat the relationship itself as an entity... but I'm completely at a loss as to how to handle the entity in this form. As always, thanks in advance for any and all help you can give me!

  • Rails equivalent of respond_to |format| with a straight render

    - by brad
I'm working with ActiveResource a lot so my service models are only using XML. Thus, I have no need for a respond_to block, I literally just render :xml => @model I can't however figure out how to render a 404 header using this. I've had to resort to respond_to, which I think adds a few unnecessary method calls. Here's what I'm using: respond_to do |format| if (record_found) render :xml => @some_record else format.xml{ head :not_found } end end but I just want something like render :xml => head :not_found which doesn't work. Can anyone tell me the proper syntax?

  • Cap deploy doesn't work all the sudden; something to do with FactoryGirl and assets

    - by Jason Swett
I've been cap deploying my app all throughout it development, and this last time I tried to deploy it, it didn't work. Here's what happened: * executing `deploy:assets:precompile' * executing "cd /var/www/oneteam/releases/20121006153136 && bundle exec rake RAILS_ENV=production RAILS_GROUPS=assets assets:precompile" servers: ["electricsasquatch.com"] [electricsasquatch.com] executing command ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] rake aborted! ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] uninitialized constant OneTeam::Application::FactoryGirl ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] ** [out :: electricsasquatch.com] (See full trace by running task with --trace) It looks like it failed on the deploy:assets:precompile command. I don't get why that command would have tried to do anything with FactoryGirl, though. Any ideas?

  • My Rails app is returning HTTP 500 for all its URLs, but nothing shows up in the log file. How can I

    - by mipadi
I have a Rails app that is running on a production server with Apache and Phusion Passenger. The app works fine locally when using Mongrel, but whenever I try to load a URL on the production server, it returns HTTP 500. I know the server is working properly, because I can get the static elements of the application (e.g., JavaScript files, stylesheets, images) just fine. I've also checked the Passenger status and it is loading the app (it must be, since the app's 500 Internal Server Error page is returned, not just the default Apache one). Also, when I load the app via script/console production and do something like app.get("/"), 500 is also returned. The problem is that there is nothing in the log files to indicate the problem. production.log is empty. The Apache error logs show no problems with Apache, either. I'm stumped as to what's going on and I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem. I know I may have been a bit vague, but can anyone give a suggestion on what the problem may be? Or at least a way I can go about diagnosing it?

  • Redirect Output of Capistrano

    - by Eric Lubow
I have a Capistrano deploy file (Capfile) that is rather large, contains a few namespaces and generally has a lot of information already in it. My ultimate goal is, using the Tinder gem, paste the output of the entire deployment into Campfire. I have Tinder setup properly already. I looked into using the Capistrano capture method, but that only works for the first host. Additionally that would be a lot of work to go through and add something like: output << capture 'foocommand' Specifically, I am looking to capture the output of any deployment from that file into a variable (in addition to putting it to STDOUT so I can see it), then pass that output in the variable into a function called notify_campfire. Since the notify_campfire function is getting called at the end of a task (every task regardless of the namespace), it should have the task name available to it and the output (which is stored in that output variable). Any thoughts on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Rails 3.1 assets not recognizing new images uploaded by rmagick until server restart

    - by Mr_Nizzle
I have my Rails 3.1.0 application running with passenger in production environment and I have a section where the application allows the user to change his profile picture so I upload the image using an ajax uploader and in my controller I upload the file and generate different sizes for the image with rmagick then I render the new image with an image_tag but the application won't show the image till I restart the server. What I get is No route matches [GET] "assets/path/to/image.png" If I restart the server It will show the image, but obviously I can't be restarting the server every once a user uploads a new image. How can I solve the keeping the assets working the right way?

  • Partials in Liquid

Hello, We're trying to rewrite our current views from ERb to Liquid and we got following problem: we have a lot of render(:partial => '/path/to/partial') in our code, but we found absolutely no instructions how to render partials in Liquid. The only one solution we found was with help of render_to_string but it's just to ugly to be true. Thanx!

  • How to stay DRY when using both Javascript and ERB templates (Rails)

    - by user94154
I'm building a Rails app that uses Pusher to use web sockets to push updates to directly to the client. In javascript: channel.bind('tweet-create', function(tweet){ //when a tweet is created, execute the following code: $('#timeline').append("<div class='tweet'><div class='tweeter'>"+tweet.username+"</div>"+tweet.status+"</div>"); }); This is nasty mixing of code and presentation. So the natural solution would be to use a javascript template. Perhaps eco or mustache: //store this somewhere convenient, perhaps in the view folder: tweet_view = "<div class='tweet'><div class='tweeter'>{{tweet.username}}</div>{{tweet.status}}</div>" channel.bind('tweet-create', function(tweet){ //when a tweet is created, execute the following code: $('#timeline').append(Mustache.to_html(tweet_view, tweet)); //much cleaner }); This is good and all, except, I'm repeating myself. The mustache template is 99% identical to the ERB templates I already have written to render HTML from the server. The intended output/purpose of the mustache and ERB templates are 100% the same: to turn a tweet object into tweet html. What is the best way to eliminate this repetition? UPDATE: Even though I answered my own question, I really want to see other ideas/solutions from other people--hence the bounty!

  • Rails transaction: save data in multiple models.

    - by smotchkkiss
my models class Auction belongs_to :item belongs_to :user, :foreign_key => :current_winner_id has_many :auction_bids end class User has_many :auction_bids end class AuctionBid belongs_to :user end current usage An item is displayed on the page, the user enters an amount and clicks bid. Controller code might look something like this: class MyController def bid @ab = AuctionBid.new(params[:auction_bid]) @ab.user = current_user if @ab.save render :json => {:response => 'YAY!'} else render :json => {:response => 'FAIL!'} end end end desired functionality This works great so far! However, I need to ensure a couple other things happen. @ab.auction.bid_count needs to be incremented by one. @ab.user.bid_count needs to be incremented by one @ab.auction.current_winner_id needs to be set to @ab.user_id That is, the User and the Auction associated with the AuctionBid need values updated as well in order for the AuctionBid#save to return true.

  • Confusing rails div id naming

    - by RailAddict
I have started using jQuery and rails. I have made a simple form that submits to the database and updates the page without reloading with ajax. In my jQuery functions I used $"#new_comment" for the id name (in my application.js and create.js.erb files) but on my articles/show view file, I named the div "add_comment" and it works.. I renamed it new_comment and it breaks! Can someone explain it please? I get an error: "no action responded to 1" My function in my controller is "create".

  • Rails OpenID Authentication Plugin No Longer Installs Rake Tasks?

    - by Rich Apodaca
I'm following the Railscasts tutorial on using OpenID with AuthLogic. This command: $ script/plugin install git://github.com/rails/open_id_authentication.git installs the plugin, but I don't see any OpenID Rake tasks (rake -T). In particular, I can no longer run the task: $ rake open_id_authentication:db:create With previous applications, the Rake tasks were installed without a problem, so what's changed with the plugin? Which version of the plugin do I need to get the behavior I'm looking for? Using Rails 2.3.5.

  • Using respond_to ... format.json and jQuery Form Plugin by malsup

    - by Topher Fangio
    Hello all, I'm having a tad bit of trouble getting the jQuery Form Plugin to work properly with a file-upload field. When I use the plugin to submit the form without a file-upload field, the format.json portion of the respond_to do |format| block is called properly. However, by adding the file-upload field, it only executes the format.html portion which makes my javascript code think that an error has occurred. Has anyone run into this before or know a way to force the plugin to always use json? Alternatively, can I modify the url that the plugin uses to force Rails to render the json? Thanks very much for any help! Code below: # app/controllers/details_controller.rb def create @detail = Detail.new(params[:detail]) style = params[:detail_style].to_sym || :thumb data = { :id => '5', :url => 'test.rails' } respond_to do |format| if @detail.save flash[:notice] = 'Your image has been saved.' data = { :id => @detail.id, :url => @detail.data.url(style) } format.html { redirect_to :action => 'index' } format.json { render :json => "<textarea>#{data.to_json}</textarea>", :status => :created } else format.html { render :action => 'new' } format.json { render :json => @detail.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end /* app/views/sidebar/_details.html.erb (excerpt) */ <% form_for(Detail.new, :html => { :multipart => true } ) do |f| %> <%= hidden_field_tag 'detail_style', 'thumb' %> <%= f.label :image, "Recent Images" %> <%= f.file_field :image%> <p> <%= f.submit "Upload" %> </p> <% end %> <script> $(document).ready(function() { var options = { dataType: 'json', success: function(json, statusText) { console.log("success: " + json); }, error: function(xhr, statusText, errorThrown) { console.log("error: " + xhr.responseText); } }; $('#new_detail').ajaxForm(options); });

  • Rails "Load more..." instead of pagination.

    - by Joseph Silvashy
I have a list of elements, and I've been using will_paginate up until now, but I'd like to have something like "load more..." at the bottom of the list. Is there an easy way to accomplish this using will_paginate or do I need to resort to some other method here? From what I know this is a better route anyhow because then I don't need a SQL count of the records. And it really doesn't matter if there are like 9,847 pages, nobody would need the records beyond the first couple pages anyhow.

  • How to monkeypatch Issue model in Redmine from a plugin, specifically redmine_task_board

    - by armmer
I'm trying to add a custom sort method to the Issue.rb model in Redmine from the redmine_task_board plugin. My commit on github I don't know if this is a lack of knowledge about Rails plugins on my part or something specific I have to do with Redmine. Redmine 0.8.6.stable I want this method so that when I show the Task Board show method from tasks_board_controller I can sort the tickets in each column by Issue.priority.position. Thank you for any help.

  • secure rest API for running user "apps" in an iframe

    - by Brian Armstrong
I want to let users create "apps" (like Facebook apps) for my website, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to make it secure. I have a REST api i want to run the user apps in an iframe on my own site (not a safe markup language like FBML) I was first looking at oAuth but this seems overkill for my solution. The "apps" don't need to be run on external sites or in desktop apps or anything. The user would stay on my site at all times but see the user submitted "app" through the iframe. So when I call the app the first time through the iframe, I can pass it some variables so it knows which logged in user is using it on my site. It can then use this user session in it's own API calls to customize the display. If the call is passed in the clear, I don't want someone to be able to intercept the session and impersonate the user. Does anyone know a good way to do this or good write up on it? Thanks!

  • Open source gravatar-like implementations?

    - by Tauren
I'm already using gravatar icons for the users of my web service. However, I'm finding several problems with this approach: Only a small percentage of the users take the time to set up a gravatar profile. My users are not tech-savvy, but would be likely to add a dedicated photo to my site. Users of my service are encouraged to use images that depict them in proper uniform for the industry my service relates to. They wouldn't want that same picture to be used for personal purposes throughout the internet. They would not take the time or effort to manage a separate email address and gravatar account just to have an "in-uniform" profile photo for my service. Before I implement my own profile image feature, I was wondering if there are any open-source solutions that I could leverage with similar features to gravatar. Specifically: The ability to display any size thumbnail (up to 512px would be fine) Takes care of caching different sized thumbnails Has support for something like identicons, preferably pluggable with different style algorithms (monsters, etc.), even better if I can customize these Ability to fall-back to gravatar if no photo found Does anything like this exist? I haven't found it yet if it does.
