  • Licensing Options for a dead project

    I'm currently working on a project where the original author informally told me that he didn't want to publish the source. Since then, the original author has gone leaving me to be the sole developer on the project. I've tried to contact him several times about making the project open source so that I can have other developers assist me but he is not responding to any communications. I'm not planning on trying to make money of the software, I just want a general license that allows me to put the code on GitHub or BitBucket so that other people in the community can assist me with the development. Can I do this since he is gone and not responding to any form of communication? Is there a time period I need to wait? I know what I asking for is legal advice, I just have no idea where to start looking to find the answer so I decided to start here.

  • Can't create site connection in Contribute. Adminstrator account removed from domain

    I have been tasked with administering several sites through Contribute. The previous administrator has since left and his domain account was removed. I believe I had been set up as an additional admin on these sites previously. However, when I attempt to create a connection through "My Connections" in Contribute using SFTP and my credentials, I get the following error: I have verified that I have read/write access to these sites through FTP. How can I take control of these sites through Contribute so that I can start administering them? Is this related to the removal of the previous admin's account?

  • LINQ: Enhancing Distinct With The SelectorEqualityComparer

    On my last post, I introduced the PredicateEqualityComparer and a Distinct extension method that receives a predicate to internally create a PredicateEqualityComparer to filter elements. Using the predicate, greatly improves readability, conciseness and expressiveness of the queries, but it can be even better. Most of the times, we don’t want to provide a comparison method but just to extract the comaprison key for the elements. So, I developed a SelectorEqualityComparer that takes a method that extracts the key value for each element.     i have had this problem since i installed ubuntu 12.4 on my laptop (on all of distro i have this problem execpt of backtrack) my problem is when i start my linux while it connect to power source there is no problem everything works fine . but when i disconnect and wants to work with battery it crash i mean everything work tooooo slowly and my cpu usage goes to 100 ... it happen too when i start my linux with battery and want to connect the power source to it .... it happens again . i updated my distro and now on i have 12.10 on my laptop but it has this problem . my lap top is hp probook 4520s my graphic card is ati radeon 530 v and i installed catalyst control center on my lap top and it works fine but the only problem is that what i said ...is it relate to my graphic card ???

    hey so I've decided to Code my own 2D soft-body physics engine in C++ since apparently none exist and I'm starting only with a general idea/understanding on how physics work and could be simulated: by giving points and connections between points properties such as elasticity, density, mass, shape retention, friction, stickiness, etc. What I want is a starting point: resources and helpful examples/sites that could give me the specifics needed to actually make this such as equations and required physics knowledge. It would be great if anyone out there also would give me their attempts or ideas. finally I was wondering if it was possible to... use the source code of an existing 3D engine such as Bullet and transform it to be 2D based? use the source code of a 2D Rigid body physics engine such as box2d as a starting point?

    How can I install Disastry's version of PGP 2.6.3ia-multi06 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS? His site with the source code is here: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/disastry/263multi.htm He already compiled a unix version of pgp and it's in the Linux section of his download. How can I either copy and install the binary PGP file, or compile it from the source and install. I have tried several different ways, get no error messages, but when I type pgp -h at the command line, Ubuntu tells me that pgp is not installed. (I already have truecrypt 7.1a and gnupg 1.4.16 installed, but still like the old pgp I have on windows) Thanks! traveler

    When you open a file in JDeveloper, the mode that is used as the default might not be what you as a developer want.  If, for example, every time you open a .jsp(x) file you click on the source tab at the bottom of the window so that you can edit the jsp(x) file in source code mode, you may want to consider changing the default editor for that file type.  This is easy to do in the JDeveloper tool preferences and can be a time saver in the long run, since some editors can take a while to start up and if you don't need them often, this would just be lost time.  Here are the steps:  From the JDeveloper menu, select Tools->Preferences...Select "File Types" in the tree component on the left side of the preferences dialog.Click on the "Default Editors" tab.Scroll to the file type you want to change.In the details section at the bottom of the dialog, use the "Default Editor" select list to change the default to your liking.

    Create Deployment connection Enable the inbound change set settings on the destination Environment you would like to deploy the solution to. Enable the outbound change set settings on the source Environment where you package your application. The best practice is to Package everything in the changeset and salesforce will only deploy the change into your destination environment. If you only package the change, you could miss some of the changes. You can clone the change set on the source destination however the initial packaging takes some time as you need to go through everything and select the components manually. After the change set is packaged, you need to upload the chagneset so that destination environment can see the change set in its incoming change set list.     I have a script in /etc/init.d on an EC2 image that, on machine startup, pulls in source code via SVN, builds it, and then runs it using Ant. The source code is Java. Within this code is a call to the Weka library which writes a file to disk. On most Ubuntu AMIs, and my home machines' versions of Ubuntu, there is no issue. The problem is that with certain versions/AMIs of Ubuntu, Unicode characters in the file are replaced with question marks ('?'). If I run the job manually on the trouble instance, Unicode is output to file correctly, but not when run from /etc/init.d. What might be causing this problem and how can I fix it so that Unicode characters appear correctly in files written from /etc/init.d processes?

  • Can the Clojure set and maps syntax be added to other Lisp dialects?

    In addition to create list using parentheses, Clojure allows to create vectors using [ ], maps using { } and sets using #{ }. Lisp is always said to be a very extensible language in which you can easily create DSLs etc. But is Lisp so extensible that you can take any Lisp dialect and relatively easily add support for Clojure's vectors, maps and sets (which are all functions in Clojure)? I'm not necessarily asking about cons or similar actually working on these functions: what I'd like to know is if the other could be modified so that the source code would look like Clojure's source code (that is: using matching [ ], { } and #{ } in addition to ( )). Note that if it cannot be done this is not a criticism of Lisp: what I'd like to know is, technically, what should be done or what cannot be done if one were to add such a thing.

    Hi all. Does anyone know of a hosted version of Yahoo! Answers (or Stackoverflow/Superuser) that I could integrate with my site? I know that there are some open-source implementations (see http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/2267/stack-overflow-clones?page=1&tab=votes#tab-top) but I'd rather have some hosted if possible. I know there is http://stackexchange.com/ as well, but I really want some tight integration with the rest of my site. Failing that, has anyone got any experience with the open source versions?     Exchange 2010 has a delegation model where groups of winrm cmdlets are essentally grouped into roles, and the roles assigned to a user. (Image source) This is a great & flexible model considering how I can leverage all the benefits of PowerShell, while using the right low level technologies (WCF, SOAP etc), and requiring no additional software on the client side. (Image source) Question(s) Is there a way for me to leverage Exchange's delegation model in my .NET application? Has anyone attempted to imitate this model? If I must start from scratch, how would I go about imitating this approach?

  • RTL8188CU USB Network Adaptor on ubuntu 13.04

    I have an RTL8188CU USB Network Adaptor. On Ubuntu 12.10 I had to download RTL8188C_8192C_USB_linux_v3.4.4_4749.20121105 because the built-in rtl8192cu driver did not work on the 64bit system (Tested fine on 32bit). Now I have upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 and of cause the switch from kernel 3.4 to 3.8 broke the compatibility with the driver source. And (Like I suspected), the 64bit issue with rtl8192cu has still not been resolved. Since Realtek has not yet provided a new driver source, I have no working network on my computer (I use USB Tethering from my mobile at the moment). I tried downloading the Windows driver and set it up with ndiswrapper, but as soon as I activate the ndiswrapper module while having that driver installed, I get a kernel panic. Since I cannot be the only one using this USB Adaptor, I wanted to see if someone else might have found a solution to get something working? Someone might even have a solution as to why the built-in 64bit driver does not work?

  • Rewriting code under BSD license

    I am currently studding OpengGL with OpenGL Supebible 5th edition. I've found interested for me some C++ code that is distributed with the book (see also on google code). That code is under New BSD License. I am writing my software on C# with SharpGL wrapper and I'd like to know following things: Can I rewrite that C++ to C#? edid: I'am interesting in using such things like GLBatch, GLShaderManager and some other thing from GLTools. Problem is that library is on C++, but I use C#. How do I have to mark my source code if I put it somewhere like to my github account? What disclaimer should be?   • Build Dependencies and Silverlight 4

    At my current position, I’ve been doing quite a bit of Silverlight development and have also been working with TFS2010 build services to enable continuous integration.  One of the critical pieces of a successful continuous build setup (and also one of the benefits of having one) is that the build system should be able to “get latest” against the source repository and immediately build with no errors.  This can break down both in an automated build scenario and a “new guy” scenario when the solution has external dependencies that may not be present in the build environment. The method that I use to address the dependency issue is to store all of the binaries upon which my solution depends in a folder under the solution root called “Reference Items”.  I keep this folder as part of the solution and check all of the binaries into source control so when I get the latest version of the solution from source control all of the binaries are downloaded to my machine as well and gets me closer to the ideal where a new developer installs the development IDE, get latest and can immediately build and run unit tests before jumping into coding the feature of the day. This all sounds pretty good (and it is), but a little while back I ran into one of those little hiccups that requires a little manual intervention.  The issue that I ran into is that with Silverlight (at least version 4), the behavior of the “Add Reference” command when adding reference to a DLL that is present in the GAC is to omit the HintPath element that it includes with regular .Net projects, so even if the DLL is setting in the Reference Items folder and downloaded to the build machine it cannot be found at compile time and the build will fail. To work around this behavior, you need to be comfortable editing the XML project files generated by Visual Studio (in my case this is typically a .csproj file).  Simply open the project file in your favorite text editor, find the Reference element that refers to the component, and modify the XML to include the HintPath.  Here’s a before and after example of the component that ultimately led me to the investigation behind this post: Before: <Reference Include="Telerik.Windows.Controls, Version=2011.2.920.1040, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=5803cfa389c90ce7, processorArchitecture=MSIL" /> After: <Reference Include="Telerik.Windows.Controls, Version=2011.2.920.1040, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=5803cfa389c90ce7, processorArchitecture=MSIL">       <HintPath>..\Reference Items\Telerik.Windows.Controls.dll</HintPath>     </Reference>
