How about non-programming related books that can help you become a better programmer or developer? It would also be interesting to know why they would help. My first choice would be Sun Tzu's "Art of War" (however cliché), because it made it obvious that the success of any project depends on the strength of its weakest link (and warfare is a big project).

  • User management system and DELETE action - usability

    I'm working on User Management System in ASP.NET MVC3. Administrator/Editor can search, insert, update and delete other users from the system. What should I do when admin/editor clicks on Delete user link? Should I redirect him to new yes/no confirmation page or display some jquery popup window? Should I then redirect him to the home page and display message 'The user has been successfully deleted from the system', or simple redirection should be just fine?

    When posting a website link in a Facebook wall post, Facebook fetches some content (title, text and image) from the website to show it to readers. Is there a way I can adjust / propose which content is used / preferred by Facebook? I found someone saying to use <meta property="og:image" content="image.jpg">, but this doesn't seem to have any effect. But maybe Facebook caches these results for a while?

    There is a sound typically associated with a bright flash of light, which starts with a lower whirring noise, then breaks into a higher pitched sound. What is that type of sound called? I'm not sure how to begin searching for that, so a typical name for it would be very helpful.   • Multiple readers on FIFO

    I've asked a question here before about multiple writers on a FIFO, and I know now that the write is thread safe as long as I write less than the PIPE_BIF, here is the link for that limit. What about read? what if have two(or more) readers in multiple threads for reading from the same fifo, do I need locks here? or all I need is to read less than the PIPE_BUF? BTW, I'm talking about Linux FIFO, And I'm using C.

    Imagine a database mirroring setup where you have two LANs with a WAN link in between. Let's call them site A and site B. Say that principal is currently in site A, and both mirror and witness are in site B. I.e., we are running database mirroring with a witness, and assuming we are running safety FULL (synchronous), we have auto-fail over. Now, what is really fail over when it comes to mirroring? the simple answer is that the mirror will finish the recovery process (UNDO) and make the database available....(read more)

  • prevent htaccess 301 redirects on sub-domain
