• Dynamic typed language example using ANTLR

  Hey all, I'm looking for some ANTLR examples, I tried googling a bit but I found certain things which didn't fit my requirments. I found the Mantra project, but it's statically typed and is 'too' big for me at this moment, then I found 'pie' as interpreter, which is dynamically typed, which what I want, but it uses a syntax-directed interpreter. I'm looking for a pretty small language which is dynamically typed and uses AST's if possible. It doesn't need to be advanced, if it would have classes I would already be very happy. • MIDlet + BlackBerry API = verification error?

  Hi, Is there any way to write a MIDlet, but still use BlackBerry API classes and functions (including the APIs that require code signing)? In particular, I'm trying to use Kuix (http://www.kalmeo.org/projects/kuix). A pure MIDlet + Kuix (so without BlackBerry stuff) works perfectly after I converted the jar/jad to a cod file. As soon as I add BlackBerry API-stuff (CoverageInfo.COVERAGE_DIRECT in this case) I get a verification error when trying to run the cod file: Error starting $name: Module $name has verification error 2410 at offset 9a4f What can I do to solve this?

• Implementation question involving implementing an interface

  I'm writing a set of collection classes for different types of Trees. I'm doing this as a learning exercise and I'm also hoping it turns out to be something useful. I really want to do this the right way and so I've been reading Effective Java and I've also been looking at the way Joshua Bloch implemented the collection classes by looking at the source. I seem to have a fair idea of what is being done, but I still have a few things to sort out. I have a Node<T> interface and an AbstractNode<T> class that implements the Node interface. I then created a GenericNode<T> (a node that can have 0 to n children, and that is part of an n-ary tree) class that extends AbstractNode<T> and implements Node<T>. This part was easy. Next, I created a Tree<T> interface and an AbstractTree<T> class that implements the Tree<T> interface. After that, I started writing a GenericTree<T> class that extends AbstractTree<T> and implements Tree<T>. This is where I started having problems. As far as the design is concerned, a GenericTree<T> can only consist of nodes of type GenericTreeNode<T>. This includes the root. In my Tree<T> interface I have: public interface Tree<T> { void setRoot(Node<T> root); Node<T> getRoot(); List<Node<T>> postOrder(); ... rest omitted ... } And, AbstractTree<T> implements this interface: public abstract class AbstractTree<T> implements Tree<T> { protected Node<T> root; protected AbstractTree() { } protected AbstractTree(Node<T> root) { this.root = root; } public void setRoot(Node<T> root) { this.root = root; } public Node<T> getRoot() { return this.root; } ... rest omitted ... } In GenericTree<T>, I can have: public GenericTree(Node<T> root) { super(root); } But what this means is that you can create a generic tree using any subtype of Node<T>. You can also set the root of a tree to any subtype of Node<T>. I want to be able to restrict the type of the node to the type of the tree that it can represent. To fix this, I can do this: public GenericTree(GenericNode<T> root) { super(root); } However, setRoot still accepts a parameter of type Node<T>. Which means a user can still create a tree with the wrong type of root node. How do I enforce this constraint? The only way I can think of doing is either: Do an instanceof which limits the check to runtime. I'm not a huge fan of this. Remove setRoot from the interface and have the base class implement this method. This means that it is not part of the contract and anyone who wants to make a new type of tree needs to remember to implement this method. Is there a better way? The second question I have concerns the return type of postOrder which is List<Node<T>>. This means that if a user is operating on a GenericTree<T> object and calls postOrder, he or she receives a list that consists of Node<T> objects. This means when iterating through (using a foreach construct) they would have perform an explicit cast to GenericNode<T> if they want to use methods that are only defined in that class. I don't like having to place this burden on the user. What are my options in this case? I can only think of removing the method from the interface and have the subclass implement this method making sure that it returns a list of appropriate subtype of Node<T>. However, this once again removes it from the contract and it's anyone who wants to create a new type of tree has to remember to implement this method. Is there a better way?

• Classloader problems Tomcat 6 javagent

  I am using Salve Dependency Injection library that instruments the byte code of the web application. I specified -javaagent in Tomcat VM options and pointed it to the Salve agent jar. The agent jar gets loaded, but then it throws a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError unable to find classes that are in other Salve jars which are located in WEB-INF/lib folder of my web app. I can solve this problem by putting those JARs in Tomcat/endorsed folder. However, some of those jars depend on third-party libraries, such as Spring and servlet-api.jar. Therefore, I am forced to put all these dependencies in Tomcat/endorsed as well. Could anybody suggest a better way for handling dependencies of a Tomcat javaagent? Thanks.

  Hi Ejb timer service can start some process in desired time intervals. Also we can do the same thing with cron (min 1 minute) interval. But doing it with cron we have more power on controlling, monitoring and changing the intervals. Also we can restart if needed the cron very easily by command line. Also we can add or remove lines in the cron transparently. What are the advantages of using ejb timer services over calling the ejbs from cron ? (several lines of code in the cron classes are not a problem) Regards.

• How do I use SimpleRepository without the migration approach?

  I am evaluating SubSonic for use in Phase 2 of a large project. This is an ASP.NET project, with 700 tables in a SQL Server database. We are planning for our domain model to consist of POCO classes to assist with an offline access requirements we have. I believe that the SimpleRepository pattern would be among my best options. Since I have a database already, however, the migration assistance doesn't help me. Are there T4 templates for SimpleRepository that I just overlooked? How do I 'turn off' migration? If I missed something in the Wiki, point me there, otherwise get me started and I'll write up a Wiki entry for y'all when we get there.

  Hey I have a problem getting my head around how custom GWT event Handlers work. I have read quite a bit about the topic and it still is some what foggy. I have read threads here on Stackoverflow like this one http://stackoverflow.com/questions/998621/gwt-custom-event-handler.Could someone explain it in an applied mannar such as the following. I have 2 classes a block and a man class. When the man collides with the block the man fires an event ( onCollision() ) and then the block class listens for that event. Thanks

• WriteableBitmap in .NET 4

  Hi there, I have got a problem: I would like to use a method Render() for WriteableBitmap object. However, as I noticed, the method is not available without using a Silverlight assembly System.Windows.dll. I need to use RenderTargetBitmap in my project (PresentationCore assembly for standard .net). Here is the problem - there are definitions of some classes in both assemblies, thus they are in conflict. Basically, I need to add some stuff to Bgra32 bitmap. However, RenderTargetBitmap works only with Pbgra32 ones. I found that using WriteableBitmap to render would be nice. Maybe I am wrong? Do you have any ideas? Thank you in advance for the reply! • Database Replication OOD Pattern

  Greetings fellow overflowers, After reading on MSDN about correct strategies on how to perform database replication, and understanding their suggestion on Master-Subordinate Incremental Replication. It left me wondering, what OOD design pattern should I use on this... The main elements of this strategy are the Acquirer, the Manipulator and the Writer. The first fetches data from the database and passes on to the second which might perform simple transformations to the data, before handling it to the final element, the writer, that writes the desired data on the destination Database. I thought about using the Chain of Responsibility pattern, but the Acquirer, Manipulator and Writer don't share a common role among theme, so It makes no sense. Should these elements be written as separate classes, or methods inside my service? Of course I'll be creating a DB Helper class as well, but that doesn't constitutes a problem. Wondering what your opinions on this are! Thanks for your replies

• Auto generate SWF in Flex SDK

  I'm building my first website with AS3, and I'm using Flash Builder 4 to create/edit my AS classes. I have two .fla files (preloader.fla and portfolio.fla) which I both published as .swc and loaded them into my ActionScript project in FB4 (build path). When I hit debug, FB4 automatically generates a .SWF in bin-debug folder called Preloader.swf, but in my Preloader.as I have new URLRequest("Portfolio.swf"); and this Portfolio.swf isn't being generated by itself. Now the real question; how can I tell FB4 to automatically create both .SWF files for me? Or isn't that possible, any workaround then? Thanks.

• How to work with BufferedImage and YCbCr colorspace?

  Hi everyone! I need to translate colors in bitmap loaded to BufferedImage from RGB to YCbCr (luminance and 2 channels chrominance) and back after process. I made it with functions used like rgb2ycbcr() in main method for each pixel, but it isn't so smart solution. I should use ColorSpace and ColorModel classes to get BufferedImage with correct color space. It would be more flexible method, but I don't know how to do that. I'm lost and I need some tips. Can somebody help me?

• Netbeans Editor Library?

  Netbeans seems to say in several places that it supports a library to just host the "Netbeans editor" widget in some other program. It has some weird documentation that seems to say a lot, but doesn't really say much about how to use it: http://bits.netbeans.org/dev/javadoc/org-netbeans-modules-editor-lib2/architecture-summary.html I can't seem to find any download for the "Netbeans editor library" (1 or 2), and the documentation they provide says to download the entire mercurial repository, which doesn't really help me, since it doesn't tell me what is part of this "library" and what is not. If someone could point me to a download for this library, or some minimal documentation about how to use it, that would be great. I've already seen the blog post here, but it doesn't really help with getting the library, and it seems to be talking about classes which I can't find in the Netbeans sources I downloaded (Maybe a different version?)

  I'm starting out with classes in Javascript and have hit a wall. I've looked all over for a tutorial that goes a little further than simply how to construct a class (usually Animal) then extend the class and have a Method do something (Dog alert('Bark');). I have created a class that I want a user to be able to instantiate (is that the right word)? For example the first stage in my program is for the user to give the class a name, and then start to populate the various variables in the class. When they've done that they may do it again many times. So if: var className = new MyObject(); How do I dynamically create the name of the new object className and then refer to it later in the code?

• Why doesn't Maven's mvn clean ever work the first time?

  Nine times out of ten when I run mvn clean on my projects I experience a build error. I have to execute mvn clean multiple times until the build error goes away. Does anyone else experience this? Is there any way to fix this within Maven? If not, how do you get around it? I wrote a bat file that deletes the target folders and that works well, but it's not practical when you are working on multiple projects. I am using Maven 2.2.1. • XSD NewDataSet Namespace?

  I'm running XSD on an XML file and getting something strange. Depending on the depth of elements it produces a 'NewDataSet' element which will then is prefixed in Visual Studio to my auto-generated classes which is something I don't want. I've got quite a complex structure and am just trying to add a simple version element or attribute which is causing the problem. The simplest demo I could come up with is this. <A> <B>Text</B> </A> Running this through XSD says there is an element called 'NewDataSet' which may or may not appear and will prefix namespaces. <A> <B> <C>Text</C> </B> </A> This example works as expected and there is no magic 'NewDataSet' element in the generated XSD file.

  Hello! I write a simple OLAP viewer for my web-site. Here are the classes (abstract example): Employee { ID; Name; Roles[]; //What Employee can do } Order { Price; Employee Manager; Employee Executive; //Maybe wrong english. The person which perform order } Employee can be Manager and Executive in the order at the same time. This means that Employee role is not fixed. I have to group orders by employees and finally get IGrouping with Employee key. So .GroupBy(el=new {el.Manager,el.Executive}) is not allowed. I considered some tricks with IEqualityComparable, but found no solution. If somrbody will help I'll be vary glad, thank you.

  Hello, This is my messages_en_US.properties file in WEB-INF/classes folder :- Login=Login And then i created messages_fr_FR.properties :- Login=frenchLogin Then in my JSF page i wrote this :- <f:loadBundle basename="messages" var="msg"/> <h:commandButton id="btnLogin" value="#{msg.Login}" actionListener="#{IndexBean.doLogin}"/> I can correctly see the Login text by default. But when i go in firefox and change my default language to fr-fr, my text still remains the same i.e i can't see frenchLogin. I don't have anything in my faces-config.xml What am i doing wrong?   I would like to use the new concurrent collections in .NET 4.0 to solve the following problem. The basic data structure I want to have is a producer consumer queue, there will be a single consumer and multiple producers. There are items of type A,B,C,D,E that will be added to this queue. Items of type A,B,C are added to the queue in the normal manner and processed in order. However items of type D or E can only exist in the queue zero or once. If one of these is to be added and there already exists another of the same type that has not yet been processed then this should update that other one in-place in the queue. The queue position would not change (i.e. would not go to the back of the queue) after the update. Which .NET 4.0 classes would be best for this?

  Hi, How to create & access static string in iPhone (objective c)? I declare static NSString *str = @"OldValue" in class A. If i assign some value to this in class B as str = @"NewValue". This value persists for all methods in class B. But if I access it in class C (after assignment in B) I am getting it as OldValue. Am I missing something? Should i use extern in other classes?   It is possible to access bits of MATLAB's internal java code to programmatically change MATLAB itself. For example, you can programmatically open a document in the editor using editorServices = com.mathworks.mlservices.MLEditorServices; editorServices.newDocument() %older versions of MATLAB seem to use new() You can see the method signatures (but not what they do) using viewmethods. viewmethods(com.mathworks.mlservices.MLEditorServices) I have a few related questions about using these Java methods. Firstly, is there any documentation on these things (either from the Mathworks or otherwise)? Secondly, how do you find out what methods are available? The ones I've come across appear to be contained in JAR files in matlabroot\java\jar, but I'm not sure what the best way to inspect a JAR file is. Thirdly, are there functions for inspecting the classes, other than viewmethods? Finally, are there any really useful methods that anyone has found?
