  • Restoring dev db from production: Running a set of SQL scripts based on a list stored in a table?

    I need to restore a backup from a production database and then automatically reapply SQL scripts (e.g. ALTER TABLE, INSERT, etc) to bring that db schema back to what was under development. There will be lots of scripts, from a handful of different developers. They won't all be in the same directory. My current plan is to list the scripts with the full filesystem path in table in a psuedo-system database. Then create a stored procedure in this database which will first run RESTORE DATABASE and then run a cursor over the list of scripts, creating a command string for SQLCMD for each script, and then executing that SQLCMD string for each script using xp_cmdshell. The sequence of cursor-sqlstring-xp_cmdshell-sqlcmd feels clumsy to me. Also, it requires turning on xp_cmdshell. I can't be the only one who has done something like this. Is there a cleaner way to run a set of scripts that are scattered around the filesystem on the server? Especially, a way that doesn't require xp_cmdshell?

    hi is there a tool that i can use to generated msdn type documentation? i recently just started playing with sandcastle and i found that there used to a tool called scriptdoc but it has been absorbed into aptana and i don't really want to use aptana studio. what i could find so far is jsdoc which is a perl script which extracts comments from javascript files but i'm still looking for a better fit. from my initial testing it seems that the xml generated from jsdoc doesn't match completed with sandcastle or maybe i'm missing something there... any help?

  • In an Android application, should I have one content provider per table or only one for the entire a

    I have years of experience with Microsoft .NET development (primarily C#) and have been working to come up to speed on Android and Java. So far, I've built a small application with a couple screens and a working content provider. All of the examples I've seen for developing content providers typically work with a single table, so I got the impression that this was the convention. I built a couple more content providers for other tables and ran into the "Unknown URI" IllegalArgumentException when I tried to test them. The exception is being thrown by one of my content providers, but not the one I was intending to call. It appears that my application is using the first content provider in the AndroidManifest.xml file, which now has me wondering if I should only have a single content provider for the entire application. Are there any best practices and/or examples for working with multiple tables in an Android application? Should I have one content provider per table or only one for the entire application? If the former, how do I resolve URIs to the proper provider? If the latter, how do I keep my content provider code from being polluted with switch statements?

  • jQuery Looking for a function to equalize heights of divs based on tallest image in a table.

    I am doing a site that will have a table with a bunch of images in them. They are user added images so I have no control over aspect ratio, what I do have control over is I can the force a max height/width and the image will not exceed this in either direction, but the height can (and will) fluctuate. <table class="pl_upload"> <tr class="row1"> <td class="col1"> <div> <div class="img-container"> <a href="#"><img src="img.jpg" width="182" alt="X" /></a> </div> </div> </td> ....... What I need ideally is to get the height of the tallest image and then make the all of the children divs the same height based on the height of the tallest one.   • What's the best way to "shuffle" a table of database records?

    Say that I have a table with a bunch of records, which I want to randomly present to users. I also want users to be able to paginate back and forth, so I have to perserve some sort of order, at least for a while. The application is basically only AJAX and it uses cache for already visited pages, so even if I always served random results, when the user tries to go back, he will get the previous page, because it will load from the local cache. The problem is, that if I return only random results, there might be some duplicates. Each page contains 6 results, so to prevent this, I'd have to do something like WHERE id NOT IN (1,2,3,4 ...) where I'd put all the previously loaded IDs. Huge downside of that solution is that it won't be possible to cache anything on the server side, as every user will request different data. Alternate solution might be to create another column for ordering the records, and shuffle it every insert time unit here. The problem here is, I'd need to set random number out of a sequence to every record in the table, which would take as many queries as there are records. I'm using Rails and MySQL if that's of any relevance.

    I found this question which is a great starting point towards creating embedded widgets that enable showing dynamic content on remote sites (i.e. a different domain). One problem I'm having is with the following code: public ActionResult SomeAction() { return new JsonpResult { Data = new { Widget = "some partial html for the widget" } }; } It says Widget = "some partial html for the widget" but this doesn't really mean anything to me. I assume that Widget would contain the HTML representing what the user wants to see on the screen, but How do I get the contents of my Partial View into Widget? Is there a sequence of rule application, such that it make string S into string T? I believe there is no better way to answer this than try every single rule in every single state. Which would be exponential time. But I don't know if there are better solutions to it.

    Macros are fine. Templates are fine. Pretty much whatever it works is fine. The example is OpenGL; but the technique is C++ specific and relies on no knowledge of OpenGL. Precise problem: I want an expression E; where I do not have to specify a unique name; such that a constructor is called where E is defined, and a destructor is called where the block E is in ends. For example, consider: class GlTranslate { GLTranslate(float x, float y, float z); { glPushMatrix(); glTranslatef(x, y, z); } ~GlTranslate() { glPopMatrix(); } }; Manual solution: { GlTranslate foo(1.0, 0.0, 0.0); // I had ti give it a name ..... } // auto popmatrix Now, I have this not only for glTranslate, but lots of other PushAttrib/PopAttrib calls too. I would prefer not to have to come up with a unique name for each var. Is there some trick involving macros templates ... or something else that will automatically create a variable who's constructor is called at point of definition; and destructor called at end of block?     I have a question regarding a unified insert query against tables with different data structures (Oracle). Let me elaborate with an example: tb_customers ( id NUMBER(3), name VARCHAR2(40), archive_id NUMBER(3) ) tb_suppliers ( id NUMBER(3), name VARCHAR2(40), contact VARCHAR2(40), xxx, xxx, archive_id NUMBER(3) ) The only column that is present in all tables is [archive_id]. The plan is to create a new archive of the dataset by copying (duplicating) all records to a different database partition and incrementing the archive_id for those records accordingly. [archive_id] is always part of the primary key. My problem is with select statements to do the actual duplication of the data. Because the columns are variable, I am struggling to come up with a unified select statement that will copy the data and update the archive_id. One solution (that works), is to iterate over all the tables in a stored procedure and do a: CREATE TABLE temp as (SELECT * from ORIGINAL_TABLE); UPDATE temp SET archive_id=something; INSERT INTO temp (select * from temp); DROP TABLE temp; I do not like this solution very much as the DDL commands muck up all restore points. Does anyone else have any solution?

    I am using R and applying MART (Alg. for multiple additive regression trees) on a training set to build prediction models. When I look at the ROC curve, it is not monotone. I would be grateful if someone can help me with how I should fix this. I am guessing the issue is that initially, MART generates n trees and if these trees are not the same for all the models I am building, the results will not be comparable. Here are the steps I take: 1) Fix the false-negative cost, c_fn. Let cost = c(0, 1, c_fn, 0). 2) use the following line to build the mart model: mart(x, y, lx, martmode='class', niter=2000, cost.mtx=cost) where x is the matrix of training set variables, y is the observation matrix, lx is the matrix which specifies which of the variables in x is numerical, which one categorical. 3) I predict the test set observations using the mart model found in step 2 using this line: y_pred = martpred(x_test, probs=T) 4) I compute the false-positive and false-negative errors as follows: t = 1/(1+c_fn) %threshold based on Bayes optimal rule where c_fp=1 and c_fn. p_0 = length(which(y_test==1))/dim(y_test)[1] p_01 = sum(1*(y_pred[,2]t & y_test==0))/dim(y_test)[1] p_11 = sum(1*(y_pred[,2]t & y_test==1))/dim(y_test)[1] p_fp = p_01/(1-p_0) p_tp = p_11/p_0 5) repeat step 1-4 for a new false-negative cost.

  • What requests do browsers' "F5" and "Ctrl + F5" refreshes generate?

    Is there a standard for what actions F5 and Ctrl+F5 trigger in web browsers? I once did experiment in IE6 and Firefox 2.x. The "F5" refresh would trigger a HTTP request sent to the server with an "If-Modified-Since" header, while "Ctrl+F5" would not have such a header. In my understanding, F5 will try to utilize cached content as much as possible, while "Ctrl+F5" is intended to abandon all cached content and just retrieve all content from the servers again. But today, I noticed that in some of the latest browsers (Chrome, IE8) it doesn't work in this way anymore. Both "F5" and "Ctrl+F5" send the "If-Modified-Since" header. So how is this supposed to work, or (if there is no standard) how do the major browsers differ in how they implement these refresh features?

  • How should I generate HTML to represent class and its properties?

    Currently I have a class that represents a document. This document needs to be displayed as HTML. I would like to have a method to call such as GetHTML() that would then call GetHTML() on any properties/sections of the document that needed to be rendered. I was initially thinking about using linq and XElement but am wondering if that may cause issues with certain tags in HTML. Would I better off using an HtmlTextWriter? I am open to any suggestions or best practives for this situation. Thanks!

  • How can I generate XML application configuration using Zend_Tool?

    When creating a new project using zf create project myproject it will create a default project layout with an application.ini in the configs folder. Where can I change these default settings so that it generates (and uses) an XML file (application.xml)? I've looked at the documentation for Zend_Tool (http://framework.zend.com/manual/en/zend.tool.html), but there seems to be no information on how to do this. And suppose you'd like to use a different default folder layout (ie. use htdocs instead of public as your document root), is there a way to specify this as well? Any pointers to relevant information (btw I've looked at the Quickstart, nothing relevant is mentioned there unless I'm overlooking it)? edit I already tried creating a profile (stored in .zf/project/profiles), and used that to create a project (using zf create project myproject myprofile) but that doesn't change anything, even though the .zfproject.xml file in the root of the new project does contain the <applicationConfigFile type="xml"/> setting... So when executing a query you can create a function that will assign the properties from other tables to properties created in the partial class. public static Account InitAccount(Account account) { account.CurrencyName = account.Currency.Name; account.PriceTypeName = account.DisplayPriceType.Name; return account; } So my question is, is there a way to assign the value from the joined table to the property of the current table partial class? i have tried using. from a in dc.Accounts where a.CompanyID == companyID && a.Archived == null select new { PriceTypeName = a.DisplayPriceType.Name}) but this seems to mess up my SortExpression. Any help on this would be much appreciated, I do understand that this is complex stuff.

  • Run Reporting Service in local mode and generate columns automatically?

    Hi, I have a SQL query right now which I want to use with the MS reporting services in my ASP.NET application. So I created a report in local mode (rdlc) and attached this to a report viewer. Since my query uses parameters, I created a stored procedure, which had exactly those parameters. In addition to that I had some textboxes which are used for entering the params for the query and a button to call the stored proc and to fill the datatset which is bound to the report viewer. This works, I press the button and according to what I entred the correct data is shown. Now my question: In the future I plan to have multiple reports (which will be selected in a dropdown) and I wonder if I can somehow just call the correct stored procedure and according to the columns which are *SELECT*ed in the procedure, the columns are shown in the report. Example: I select report1 from the dropdown (procedure for report 1 is called), 5 columns are shown in the reportviewer. I select report2 from dropdown (procedure for report 2 is called), 8 columns are shown. Is that possible somehow? Thanks :-)

Any hints are much appreciated +! (other advices for proper canonical usage in this multi-lingual environment are welcome as well)
