  • Comma Seperated Values and LIKE php/mysql Troubles

    - by Jay
The Set up This is more or less a follow up question to something I had previously posted regarding comma separated values (explode, implode). Here's the scenario which has been stomping me the last few days as I'm a noob--sorry for the lengthy post. I'm passing a variable via the url (index.php?id=variable), I then check the database to find the rows containing that variable using SELECT * FROM table WHERE column LIKE '%$variable%' I'm using the wildcards because the results are a comma separated value with the variable appearing multiple times in the database. So if we were assigning-- say schools to popular tv shows..my database is set up so that the user can assign more than one school to the tv show. IE. South Park-- fsu, nyu ,mit Archer -- harvard, nyu Index.php?id=nyu would display Sourth Park & Archer. The Problem Because I am using Like '%variable%' If I have the following: South Park--uark Archer--ua index.php?=ua Instead of just Archer showing, Southpark would also show. Which makes sense due to the wildcards...but can anyone think of a way to do this achieving the results I want?..Is there any way achieve more precise results using a comma separated value?..I'm completely stomped and will appreciate any help.

  • OSLO, ANTLR or other parser grammar, for parsing QUERY EXPRESSION

    - by Jay Allard
Greetings I'm working on a project that requires me to write queries in text form, then convert them to some easily processed nodes to be processed by some abiguous repository. Of everything there, the part I'm least interested is the part that converts the text to nodes. I'm hoping it's already done somewhere. Because I'm making stuff up as I go, I chose to use a LINQish expression syntax. from m in Movie select m.A, m.B I started parsing it manually and got the basics, but it's pretty cheesy. I'm looking for the better solution. I made some progress using MGrammar, but it would be nice if such a thing already existed. Does anyone know of anything that already does this? I looked for existing ANTLR templates, but no luck. Thanks for the help.

  • MYSQL TRIGGER LOOP

    - by Lee
Hey all I am going through the pain stacking process of sorting out someone else code. So I am decided to recreate a new database to sit alongside the old one then to use triggers to transfer data between both tables. Now I have an issue with a it looping IE A trigger on each table to update the other. Once one updates it should update the other but as both tables have triggers it just will loop which will cause an issue. Is their a way to stop this from happening ? Hope this makes sense and hope you can advise.

  • Unique Key in MySql

    - by Vinodtiru
I have a table with four Columns. Col1, Col2, Col3, and Col4. Col1, Col2, Col3 is string and Col4 is a integer primary key with Auto Increment. Now my requirement is to have unique combination of Col2 and Col3. I mean to say like. Insert into table(Col1,Col2,Col3) Values('val1','val2','val3'); Insert into table(Col1,Col2,Col3) Values('val4','val2','val3'); the second statement has to throw error as the same combination of 'val2','val3' is present in the table. But i cant make it as a primary key as i need a auto increment column and for that matter the col4 has to be primary. Please let me know a approach by which i can have both in my table. Any kind of help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • MySQL problem: How to get desired rows.

    - by Joonas Köppä
I have been trying to solve this problem for 2 hours now but I cant understand the solutions others have given people with a similar problem. Ive seen some answers but can't apply it to my own needs. I have a table of users and their times in different sports events. I need to make a scoretable that shows the user with the best time, second best etc. The table before sorting and retrieving looks as follows: | Name | Time | Date | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' | Jack | 03:07:13 | 2010-12-01 | | Peter | 05:03:12 | 2010-12-03 | | Jack | 03:53:19 | 2010-12-04 | | Simon | 03:22:59 | 2010-12-02 | | Simon | 04:01:11 | 2010-12-09 | | Peter | 03:19:17 | 2010-12-06 | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' | Name | Time | Date | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' | Jack | 03:07:13 | 2010-12-01 | | Peter | 03:19:17 | 2010-12-06 | | Simon | 03:22:59 | 2010-12-02 | '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' I know answers to this problem lie in another question asked on this very site: CLICK HERE I just have no idea how to apply it to fullfill my needs. • effective retrieve for a voting system in PHP and MySQL

    - by Adnan
Hello, I have a system where registered users can vote up/vote down comment for a picture. Something very similar to SO's voting system. I store the votes in a table with values as such; vote_id | vote_comment_id | vote_user_id | vote_date | vote_type Now I have few a question concerned the speed and efficiency for the following; PROB: Once a user opens the picture page with comments I need, if that user has already voted UP/DOWN a comment to show it like; "you voted up" or "you voted down" next to the comment (in SO it the vote image is highlighted) MY POSSIBLE SOL: Right now when I open a picture page for each comment I loop thru, I loop thru my table of votes as well and check if a user has voted and show the status (I compare the vote_user_id with the user's session). How efficient is this? Anyone have a better approach to tackle this kind of problem?

  • complex MySQL Order by not working

    - by Les Reynolds
Here is the select statement I'm using. The problem happens with the sorting. When it is like below, it only sorts by t2.userdb_user_first_name, doesn't matter if I put that first or second. When I remove that, it sorts just fine by the displayorder field value pair. So I know that part is working, but somehow the combination of the two causes the first_name to override it. What I want is for the records to be sorted by displayorder first, and then first_name within that. SELECT t1.userdb_id FROM default_en_userdbelements as t1 INNER JOIN default_en_userdb AS t2 ON t1.userdb_id = t2.userdb_id WHERE t1.userdbelements_field_name = 'newproject' AND t1.userdbelements_field_value = 'no' AND t2.userdb_user_first_name!='Default' ORDER BY (t1.userdbelements_field_name = 'displayorder' AND t1.userdbelements_field_value), t2.userdb_user_first_name; Edit: here is what I want to accomplish. I want to list the users (that are not new projects) from the userdb table, along with the details about the users that is stored in userdbelements. And I want that to be sorted first by userdbelements.displayorder, then by userdb.first_name. I hope that makes sense? Thanks for the really quick help! Edit: Sorry for disappearing, here is some sample data userdbelements userdbelements_id userdbelements_field_name userdbelements_field_value userdb_id 647 heat 1 648 displayorder 1 - Sponsored 1 645 condofees 1 userdb userdb_id userdb_user_name userdb_emailaddress userdb_user_first_name userdb_user_last_name 10 harbourlights [email protected] Harbourlights 1237 Northshore Blvd, Burlington 11 harbourview [email protected] Harbourview 415 Locust Street, Burlington 12 thebalmoral [email protected] The Balmoral 2075 & 2085 Amherst Heights Drive, Burlington

  • Mysql - Summary Tables

    - by jwzk
Which method do you suggest and why? Creating a summary table and . . . 1) Updating the table as the action occurs in real time. 2) Running group by queries every 15 minutes to update the summary table. 3) Something else? The data must be near real time, it can't wait an hour, a day, etc.

  • mysql: Average over multiple columns in one row, ignoring nulls

    - by Sai Emrys
I have a large table (of sites) with several numeric columns - say a through f. (These are site rankings from different organizations, like alexa, google, quantcast, etc. Each has a different range and format; they're straight dumps from the outside DBs.) For many of the records, one or more of these columns is null, because the outside DB doesn't have data for it. They all cover different subsets of my DB. I want column t to be their weighted average (each of a..f have static weights which I assign), ignoring null values (which can occur in any of them), except being null if they're all null. I would prefer to do this with a simple SQL calculation, rather than doing it in app code or using some huge ugly nested if block to handle every permutation of nulls. (Given that I have an increasing number of columns to average over as I add in more outside DB sources, this would be exponentially more ugly and bug-prone.) I'd use AVG but that's only for group by, and this is w/in one record. The data is semantically nullable, and I don't want to average in some "average" value in place of the nulls; I want to only be counting the columns for which data is there. Is there a good way to do this? Ideally, what I want is something like UPDATE sites SET t = AVG(a*a_weight,b*b_weight,...) where any null values are just ignored and no grouping is happening.

  • Collaborative filtering in MySQL ?

    - by user281434
Hi I'm trying to develop a site that recommends items(fx. books) to users based on their preferences. So far, I've read O'Reilly's "Collective Intelligence" and numerous other online articles. They all, however, seem to deal with single instances of recommendation, for example if you like book A then you might like book B. What I'm trying to do is to create a set of 'preference-nodes' for each user on my site. Let's say a user likes book A,B and C. Then, when they add book D, I don't want the system to recommend other books based solely other users experience with book D. I wan't the system to look up similar 'preference-nodes' and recommend books based on that. Here's an example of 4 nodes: User1: 'book A'->'book B'->'book C' User2: 'book A'->'book B'->'book C'->'book D' user3: 'book X'->'book Y'->'book C'->'book Z' user4: 'book W'->'book Q'->'book C'->'book Z' So a recommendation system, as described in the material I've read, would recommend book Z to User 1, because there are two people who recommends Z in conjuction with liking C (ie. Z weighs more than D), even though a user with a similar 'preference-node', User2, would be more qualified to recommend book D because he has a more similar interest-pattern. So does any of you have any experience with this sort of thing? Is there some things I should try to read or does there exist any open source systems for this? Thanks for your time! Small edit: I think last.fm's algorithm is doing exactly what I my system to do. Using the preference-trees of people to recommmend music more personally to people. Instead of just saying "you might like B because you liked A"
