• Missing the "add tab group to favorites " option in IE8

  I have internet options selected for quick tabs and tab groups in setting, IE8 WIndows XP. I can open a list of favorites from the menu using the blue arrow as a tab group. I can then use the quick tabs button to show the groups open. However, I do not have the "add tab group to favorites" option in the pull down menu for favotites at the Favorite Bar. Is this a Vista feature only?

• AD reset user passwords for a security group

  I'm not quite sure if this is possible or not, but I need to force a certain security group's users to have their passwords expire so they'll be forced to change them on next login. The reason for this is because I applied a FGPP (password policy) to this particular group in order to enforce strong passwords. Well, many users have really weak passwords and they won't be changed unless they're forced. Is there a way to do this without forcing everyone to a single password?

• Is there a MySQL performance benchmark to measure the impact of utf8_unicode_ci versus utf8_general_ci?

  I read here and there that using the utf8_unicode_ci collation ensures a better treatment of unicode text (for example, it knowns how to expand characters such as 'œ' into 'oe' for searching and ordering) compared to the default utf8_general_ci which basically just strips diacritics. Unfortunately, both sources indicate that utf8_unicode_ci is slightly slower than utf8_general_ci. So my question is: what does "slightly slower" mean? Has anyone run benchmarks? Are we talking about a -0.01% performance impact or rather something like -25%? Thanks for your help.

INnodb Buffer Pool is set to 10GB. tuning-primer shows the following: QUERY CACHE Query cache is enabled Current query_cache_size = 512 M Current query_cache_used = 501 M Current query_cache_limit = 4 M Current Query cache Memory fill ratio = 97.87 % Current query_cache_min_res_unit = 4 K However, 9418108 queries have been removed from the query cache due to lack of memory Perhaps you should raise query_cache_size That is over 9million queries removed. System uptime is 8 days. Should I remove the Query Cache altogether? Our db is always under heavy I/O. tia

I am tired of modifying webpages/webapp binaries and needing to change the group to www-data so the server can read them. If not what app might i use instead? I mostly use winscp for the easy of copy/pasting files onto my linux server and the ease of browsing the filesystem (can go between 2+ folders in a second, no typos)

• How do I split a large MySql backup file into multiple files?

  I have a 250 MB backup SQL file but the limit on the new hosting is only 100 MB ... Is there a program that let's you split an SQL file into multiple SQL files? It seems like people are answering the wrong question ... so I will clarify more: I ONLY have the 250 MB file and only have the new hosting using phpMyAdmin which currently has no data in the database. I need to take the 250 MB file and upload it to the new host but there is a 100 MB SQL backup file upload size limit. I simply need to take one file that is too large and split it out into multiple files each containing only full valid SQL statements (no statements can be split between two files).

I believe I know quite a lot of things in SQL but I still do not know what is around SQL. I have started to learn about NewSQL recently. NewSQL databases are quickly becoming popular – providing the scale of NoSQL with the SQL features and transactions. As a part of learning NewSQL database, I have recently started to learn about ClustrixDB. ClustrixDB has been the most mature NewSQL database used by some of the largest internet sites in the world for over 3 years, with extensive SQL support. I must accept that I am impressed with the information I have learned so far and now is the time to do some hand’s on experience with their product.   Hi all Is there a Python equivalent of PHP's mysql_real_escape_string? I'm trying to insert some strings into a MySQL db direct from Python, and keep getting tripped up by quotes in the strings. mysql_string = "INSERT INTO candidate (name, address) VALUES " for k, v in v_dict.iteritems(): mysql_string += " ('" + v_dict['name'] + "', '" + v_dict['address'] + "'), " mysql_string += ";" cursor.execute(mysql_string) I've tried re.escape() but that escapes every non-alphanumeric character in the strings, which isn't what I need - I just need to escape single quotes in this instance (plus more generally anything else that might trip up MySQL). Could do this manually I guess, but is there a smarter way to do it in Python?

MySQL triggers seem to be just the thing -- but how do I capture the IP address and the web username (as opposed to the mysql username, localhost) of the user who invoked the trigger?   My idea is to create some generic classes for Insert/Update/Select via a C# (3.5) Winforms app talking with a MySQL database via MySQL .NET Connector 6.2.2. For example: public void Insert(string strSQL) { if (this.OpenConnection() == true) { MySqlCommand cmd = new MySqlCommand(strSQL, connection); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); this.CloseConnection(); } } Then from anywhere in the program I can run a query with/without user input by just passing a SQL query string. Reading around on SO is starting to give me the indication that this may lead to SQL injection attacks (for any user-input values). Is there anyway of scrubbing the inputted strSQL or do I need to go and create individual parameterized queries in every method that needs to do a database function?

• Unable to connect to a local MYSQL server on wireles LAN.

  Ok, Here is the technical description. My laptop's config: Ip Adress:192.168.2.5 Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306 Operating system: Ubuntu jaunty (9.04) 3306 is open for both incoming and outgoing. My friend's laptop config: Ip Adress:192.168.2.4 Mysqlserver 5.0 on port : 3306 Operating system: Windows XP pro 3306 is open for both incoming and outgoing. Both are on a wireless LAN connected through a belkin router (192.168.2.1) Both the MYSQL servers have been given the sufficient GRANT privileges. I am also able to connect from 192.168.2.4 to 192.168.2.5's MYSQL instance but the vice versa is not happening. I am getting an (100061) error. Tried Telnetting on 3306; again happening from 192.168.2.4 to 192.168.2.5 but not the vice versa. Am I doing something wrong? Kindly suggest.

• mysql C connector unresolved symbols on Win2k8 but not on XP?

  I have a visual C++ 2008 express project which compiles fine on Windows XP with mysql C connector 6.0.2. When I copy the project over to a Windows Server 2008 x64 machine, it gets a bunch of linker errors like "unresolved external symbol _mysql_server_end@0" "unresolved external symbol _mysql_close@4" "unresolved external _mysql_real_connect@32". Is the mysql C connector 6.0.2 known to not work with Win Server 2008? (Note, the C connector is installed into the same place on both machines, and since I just copied over the project wholesale, it still has the correct libmysql.lib include. The interesting thing is that the errors I get on XP if I remove the libmysql.lib are not the same errors I'm getting on Win2k8, so that's what makes me think it might be an incompatibility...or maybe it's just because win2k8 is x64 and XP is x86?)   I'm trying to query a mysql table which places its date in the following format: yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss So it's date and time, and that's all in a single field. Now from php I want to get the time and query the table to only return entries where the date field is less than 24 hours old. I'm having issues with the system because PHPs get time seems to return the values seperately and I'm struggling to figure out how to make it work with mysql queries. This seems fairly simple but I'm quite new to php so sorry if I'm completely missing something..
