  • Why does the Java Collections Framework offer two different ways to sort?

    - by dvanaria
If I have a list of elements I would like to sort, Java offers two ways to go about this. For example, lets say I have a list of Movie objects and I’d like to sort them by title. One way I could do this is by calling the one-argument version of the static java.util.Collections.sort( ) method with my movie list as the single argument. So I would call Collections.sort(myMovieList). In order for this to work, the Movie class would have to be declared to implement the java.lang.Comparable interface, and the required method compareTo( ) would have to be implemented inside this class. Another way to sort is by calling the two-argument version of the static java.util.Collections.sort( ) method with the movie list and a java.util.Comparator object as it’s arguments. I would call Collections.sort(myMovieList, titleComparator). In this case, the Movie class wouldn’t implement the Comparable interface. Instead, inside the main class that builds and maintains the movie list itself, I would create an inner class that implements the java.util.Comparator interface, and implement the one required method compare( ). Then I'd create an instance of this class and call the two-argument version of sort( ). The benefit of this second method is you can create an unlimited number of these inner class Comparators, so you can sort a list of objects in different ways. In the example above, you could have another Comparator to sort by the year a movie was made, for example. My question is, why bother to learn both ways to sort in Java, when the two-argument version of Collections.sort( ) does everything the first one-argument version does, but with the added benefit of being able to sort the list’s elements based on several different criteria? It would be one less thing to have to keep in your mind while coding. You’d have one basic mechanism of sorting lists in Java to know.

  • Better Reporting for CruiseControl.NET

    - by Michael Sync
Hello, Is there any way to generate the good error report from Cruise Control? I like to get the following things in that report. The line number of File that break the build The name of developer who commited that file. (It should not be related to last person who committed because the build might be broken earlier before last person check-in. ) Thanks.

  • Does the WCF framework support the XSD IDREF restriction?

    - by Gerard
A nice feature in XSD is the IDREF restriction, e.g.: <xs:restriction base="xs:IDREF"> <xs:pattern value="[0-9a-zA-Z\-]+"/> </xs:restriction> I used this restriction with great benefit in a Java JAXWS-project. An object serialized in a SOAP XML datamodel can hold a reference (pointer) to another object in the same SOAP message. I want to try the same approach in a C# WCF-project, can it be done? On the web site Data Contract Schema Reference I can see e.g. Id ignored, Ref forbidden, but I am not sure whether I understand what that means.

  • Single page Web App in Java framework or examples?

    - by Adam Gent
Has anyone seen an example or done the following in Java: http://duganchen.ca/single-page-web-app-architecture-done-right/ That is a design a single page web app that will work with Google SEO with out massive violation of DRY using Java technologies? It doesn't seem terrible hard to do this on my own but I was curious (and lazy) to see if someone had already done it with either Spring or JAX-RS.

  • What web UI framework is most suitable for building dynamic pages / forms?

    - by waxwing
Hello, We are at a stage where we are considering different Web UI frameworks (most likely component based ones such as GWT, JSF, Wicket, Vaadin, etc). One of the main use cases / constraints is that it must support generating dynamic pages. I.e., the page/form layout and components is stored in a database and is changeable at runtime, and from this pages are generated. We are also going to write static layouts, but that is not the main focus of this question. I thought maybe the user community here can share experiences of different frameworks in this context. Are there differences in ease of implementation and what is suitable?

  • Looking for C# framework for plotting scientific data: 2d/3d ...

    - by Ivan
I need to visualize some scientific calculations. I generally prefer reusing code if there is already a good available instead of inventing wheels each time, that's why I am asking. I need a C# code to draw charts (just outputting a bitmap is ok) of 2d (y=f(x)) and 3d (z=f(x,y)) digital data sets (where any axis can be float, int or datetime), sometimes combined. If I go here and click 3D in the navigation bar on the left, there I can see what I need. But the cheapest version costs $759 there, looks scary for a hobby project of an east-european student :-(

  • Cocoa-Touch framework for speaking to a TCP socket?

    - by Coocoo4Cocoa
I have a daemon running on a server that's latched onto a TCP/IP port. I'm looking to see if there's currently any support iPhone/Cocoa-touch frameworks that gives a nice OO wrapper for speaking to the daemon over an IP socket. I need to be able to interactively query the daemon with commands and retrieve back information. If there isn't any OO wrappers for such a task, what's the next best bet?

  • What is a good Very-High level UI framework for JavaScript?

    - by Robert Gould
I need to write a temporary Web-based graphical front-end for a custom server system. In this case performance and scalability aren't issues, since at most 10 people may check the system simultaneously. Also it should be PHP or Python (server) & JavaScript (client) (can't use Flex or Silverlight for very specific non-programming related issues). So I know I could use YUI or jQuery, but was wondering if there is something even more high-level that would say allow me to write such a little project within a few hours of work, and get done with it. Basically I want to be as lazy as possible (this is throw-away code anyways) and get the job done in as little time as possible. Any suggestions?

  • From where to send mails in a MVC framework, so that there is no duplication of code?

    - by Sabya
It's a MVC question. Here is the situation: I am writing an application where I have "groups". You can invite other persons to your groups by typing their email and clicking "invite". There are two ways this functionality can be called: a) web interface and b) API After the mail sending is over I want to report to the user which mails were sent successfully (i.e., if the SMTP send succeeded. Currently, I am not interested in reporting mail bounces). So, I am thinking how should I design so that there is no code duplication. That is, API and web-interface should share the bulk of the code. To do this, I can create the method "invite" inside the model "group". So, the API and and the Web-interface can just call: group-invite($emailList); This method can send the emails. But the, problem is, then I have to access the mail templates, create the views for the mails, and then send the mails. Which should actually be in the "View" part or at least in the "Controller" part. What is the most elegant design in this situation? Note: I am really thinking to write this in the Model. My only doubt is: previously I thought sending mails also as "presentation". Since it is may be considered as a different form of generating output.

  • Why does use of H264 in sender/receiver pipelines introduce just HUGE delay?

    - by Serguey Zefirov
    When I try to create pipeline that uses H264 to transmit video, I get some enormous delay, up to 10 seconds to transmit video from my machine to... my machine! This is unacceptable for my goals and I'd like to consult StackOverflow over what I (or someone else) do wrong. I took pipelines from gstrtpbin documentation page and slightly modified them to use Speex: This is sender pipeline: #!/bin/sh gst-launch -v gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ v4l2src ! ffmpegcolorspace ! ffenc_h263 ! rtph263ppay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5000 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5001 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5005 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ pulsesrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! audio/x-raw-int,rate=16000 ! \ speexenc bitrate=16000 ! rtpspeexpay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5002 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5003 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5007 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 Receiver pipeline: !/bin/sh gst-launch -v\ gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)video, clock-rate=(int)90000, encoding-name=(string)H263-1998" \ port=5000 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin. ! rtph263pdepay ! ffdec_h263 ! xvimagesink \ udpsrc port=5001 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink port=5005 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)audio, clock-rate=(int)16000, encoding-name=(string)SPEEX, encoding-params=(string)1, payload=(int)110" \ port=5002 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin. ! rtpspeexdepay ! speexdec ! audioresample ! audioconvert ! alsasink \ udpsrc port=5003 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5007 sync=false async=false Those pipelines, a combination of H263 and Speex, work fine enough. I snap my fingers near camera and micropohne and then I see movement and hear sound at the same time. Then I changed pipelines to use H264 along the video path. The sender becomes: #!/bin/sh gst-launch -v gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ v4l2src ! ffmpegcolorspace ! x264enc bitrate=300 ! rtph264pay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5000 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5001 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5005 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ pulsesrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! audio/x-raw-int,rate=16000 ! \ speexenc bitrate=16000 ! rtpspeexpay ! rtpbin.send_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5002 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5003 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc port=5007 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 And receiver becomes: #!/bin/sh gst-launch -v\ gstrtpbin name=rtpbin \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)video, clock-rate=(int)90000, encoding-name=(string)H264" \ port=5000 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_0 \ rtpbin. ! rtph264depay ! ffdec_h264 ! xvimagesink \ udpsrc port=5001 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_0 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_0 ! udpsink port=5005 sync=false async=false \ udpsrc caps="application/x-rtp,media=(string)audio, clock-rate=(int)16000, encoding-name=(string)SPEEX, encoding-params=(string)1, payload=(int)110" \ port=5002 ! rtpbin.recv_rtp_sink_1 \ rtpbin. ! rtpspeexdepay ! speexdec ! audioresample ! audioconvert ! alsasink \ udpsrc port=5003 ! rtpbin.recv_rtcp_sink_1 \ rtpbin.send_rtcp_src_1 ! udpsink host=127.0.0.1 port=5007 sync=false async=false This is what happen under Ubuntu 10.04. I didn't noticed such huge delays on Ubuntu 9.04 - the delays there was in range 2-3 seconds, AFAIR.

  • Ajax Post Request Returns JSON but Deferred Fails

    - by imrane
I have a cross-domain POST request to http://api.local/user/auth - my API endpoint. I allow Cross Domain requests in my api with CORS. Using Chrome if that makes a difference. I get a valid server JSON response with 200 Status Code but I am using deferreds from a backbone model like so: @model.save() .fail(-> console.log 'sync fail') .success -> console.log 'sync OK' And I consistently get a 'sync fail' instead of the expected 'sync OK' Thoughts?

  • Retrieve entities with children per one sql call. ADO.NET Entity framework

    - by Andrew Florko
    Hello everybody, I have two tables: A & B B { B1: Field1, B2: Field2, ... } A { Children: List of B, A1: Field1, A2: Field2, } I want to retrieve "A" entities with related "B" entities like this: DataContext.A.Select( a = new MySubset( A1 = a.A1, Children = a.Children.Select(b = b.B1).ToList()); But EF can't translate ToList into SQL, so i have to call ToList() per each instance in query producing additional network call. How can I avoid this? Thank you in advance.

  • C# testing framework that works like JUnit in Eclipse?

    - by bluebomber357
Hello all, I come from a Java/Eclipse background and I fear that I am spoiled by how easy it is to get JUnit and JMock running in Eclipse, and have that GUI with the bar and pass/fail information pop up. It just works with no hassle. I see a lot of great options for testing in C# with Visual Studio. NUnit looks really nice because it contains unit and mock testing all in one. The trouble is, I can't figure out how to get the IDE display my results. The NUnit documentation seems to show that it doesn't automatically show results through the VS IDE. I found http://testdriven.net/, which seems to trumpet that is makes VS display these stats and work with multiple frameworks, but it isn't open source. Is there anyway to get unit and mock testing working with the VS IDE like it does in Java with Eclipse?

  • how to trigger notification from other framework in atmosphere (comet)?

    - by Sean Xiong
basically i have read some samples, but all are self contained in one servlet. such as: use doGet to establish the long polling connection, and then use doPost to trigger the event to notify all suspended connections. Here is my question: I have other web actions programming in spring mvc, in the spring mvc controller a user post a message via /message/post, how can I make this action to trigger the atmosphere handler to notify the suspended connections?
