  • Using JSON with jRails

    - by Zachary
I am currently trying to use AJAX in my application via jRails. I am trying to return a JSON object from my controller, and then parse it in my Javascript. I am using json2.js to do the parsing. Here is the code I currently have: function getSomething() { $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "map/testjson", success: function(data) { var myData = JSON.parse(data[0]); window.alert(myData.login); } }); } and in the controller: class Map::MapController < ApplicationController def index end def testjson @message = User.find(:all) ActiveRecord::Base.include_root_in_json = false respond_to do |w| w.json { render :json => @message.to_json } end end end The window.alert simply says 'undefined' (without tics). However, if I change the javascript to window.alert(data) (the raw object returned by the controller) I get: [{"salt":"aSalt","name":"", "created_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","remember_token_expires_at": null,"crypted_password":"aPassword", "updated_at":"2010-03-15T02:34:25Z","id":1,"remember_token":null, "login":"zgwrig2","email":"[email protected]"}] This looks like an array of size 1, if I'm looking at it correctly, but I have tried just about every combination of JSON.parse on the data object that I can think of, and nothing seems to work. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong here?

  • Nested Forms not passing belongs_to :id

    - by Bill Christian
I have the following model class Project < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :assignments, :conditions => {:deleted_at => nil} has_many :members, :conditions => {:deleted_at => nil} accepts_nested_attributes_for :members, :allow_destroy => true end class Member < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :project belongs_to :person belongs_to :role has_many :assignments, :dependent => :destroy, :conditions => {:deleted_at => nil} accepts_nested_attributes_for :assignments, :allow_destroy => true validates_presence_of :role_id validates_presence_of :project_id end and I assume the controller will populate the member.project_id upon project.save for each nested member record. However, I get a validation error stating the project_id is blank. My controller method: def create # @project is created in before_filter if @project.save flash[:notice] = "Successfully created project." redirect_to @project else render :action => 'new' end end Do I need to manually set the project_id in each nested member record? Or what is necessary for the controller to populate when it creates the member records?

  • Logging in with webrat, celerity doesn't recognize that.

    - by Matthew Willhite
I'm using cucumber with webrat, and I am just starting to integrate culerity/celerity. My webrat login steps have been working great, and I have them as a Background for many of my scenarios. The problem is that although I can log in successfully via webrat, my celerity specific step definitions don't seem to recognize that. I can check the session from the step def and it confirms that I have a valid user that is logged in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

  • sql charateristic function for avg dates

    - by holden
    I have a query which I use to grab specific dates and a price for the date, but now I'd like to use something similar to grab the avg prices for particular days of the week. Here's my current query which works for specific dates to pull from a table called availables: SELECT rooms.name, rooms.roomtype, rooms.id, max(availables.updated_at), MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 0, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day1, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 1, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day2, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 2, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day3, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 3, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day4, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 4, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day5, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 5, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day6, MAX(IF(to_days(availables.bookdate) - to_days('2009-12-10') = 6, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day7, MIN(spots) as spots FROM `availables` INNER JOIN rooms ON availables.room_id=rooms.id WHERE rooms.hotel_id = '5064' AND bookdate BETWEEN '2009-12-10' AND DATE_ADD('2009-12-10', INTERVAL 6 DAY) GROUP BY rooms.name ORDER BY rooms.ppl My first stab which doesn't work, probably because the DAYSOFWEEK function is much different from the to_days... SELECT rooms.id, rooms.name, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 0, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day1, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 1, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day2, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 2, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day3, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 3, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day4, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 4, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day5, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 5, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day6, MAX(IF(DAYOFWEEK(availables.bookdate) - DAYOFWEEK('2009-12-10') = 6, (availables.price*0.66795805223432), '')) AS day7,rooms.ppl AS spots FROM `availables` INNER JOIN `rooms` ON `rooms`.id = `availables`.room_id WHERE (rooms.hotel_id = 5064 AND rooms.ppl > 3 AND availables.price > 0 AND availables.spots > 1) GROUP BY rooms.name ORDER BY rooms.ppl Maybe i'm making this crazy hard and someone knows a much simpler way. • package issue with ubuntu 10.10 and passenger requirements

    - by user368937
I'm trying to get Passenger working with Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm running into a problem. It seems that the passenger installer is not recognizing the virtual package. I'm getting this error: Code: passenger-install-apache2-module ... * OpenSSL support for Ruby... not found ... And then it says, run this: * To install OpenSSL support for Ruby: Please run apt-get install libopenssl-ruby as root. When I run the above command, it refers to the libruby package: sudo apt-get install libopenssl-ruby Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Note, selecting 'libruby' instead of 'libopenssl-ruby' libruby is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 43 not upgraded. When I look at the details for libruby, it says it provides libopenssl-ruby: Code: Provides: libbigdecimal-ruby, libcurses-ruby, libdbm-ruby, libdl-ruby, libdrb-ruby, liberb-ruby, libgdbm-ruby, libiconv-ruby, libopenssl-ruby, libpty-ruby, libracc-runtime-ruby, libreadline-ruby, librexml-ruby, libsdbm-ruby, libstrscan-ruby, libsyslog-ruby, libtest-unit-ruby, libwebrick-ruby, libxmlrpc-ruby, libyaml-ruby, libzlib-ruby And when I rerun the passenger installer, it gives the same error: Code: passenger-install-apache2-module ... * OpenSSL support for Ruby... not found ... Let me know if you need more info. How do I fix this?

  • How to use a scope in combination with a Model method?

    - by Bjorn
Hi all, I'm currently working on some scope filters, and I'd like to have it filter on a method (don't know how to name it otherwise). My code: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base def price_with_discount price-discount.to_f end scope :by_price, lambda {|min, max|{ :conditions => { :price_with_discount => min.to_f..max.to_f }}} end This doesn't work: "No attribute named price_with_discount exists for table products". How can I trick my scope into using the method I defined instead of searching for a column named price_with_discount? Bjorn

  • Thinking sphinx: Problems with polymorphic associations

    - by auralbee
Hello, I recently switched from ultrasphinx to thinking_sphinx for full-text search. I am trying to figure out how to index fields of polymorphic associations. I found some information but I still have some problems, although it seems to be easy. Here is my setup: class Info < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :mappable, :polymorphic => true define_index indexes mappable_type indexes mappable(:name), :as => :mappable_name end class A < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :infos, :as => :mappable end class B < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :infos, :as => :mappable end Amongst others, I want to do a search in the name column of A and B (both classes have this column), so I added the field to my index. When I do rake thinking_sphinx:index I get the following error: Generating Configuration to .../config/development.sphinx.conf rake aborted! undefined method `connection' for Object:Class .../.gem/ruby/1.8/gems/thinking-sphinx-1.3.16/lib/thinking_sphinx/ association.rb:149:in `casted_options' Any idea? Am I missing something? Thanks in advance. Tobi

  • Explicit return from a Ruby method - implementation hiding, reuse and optimisations.

    - by Chris McCauley
Hi, Rather than allowing a Ruby method to blindly return the last statement evaluated, is there any advantage to returning nil explicitly? In terms of implementation hiding and reuse, it seems dangerous to blindly allow the last expression evaluated to be returned - isn't there a danger that a user will rely on this only to get a nasty surprise when the implementation is modified? Surely returning nil would be better unless an explicit return value was given. Following on, is there an optimisation that Ruby can make when the return is a simple type rather than a reference to a more complex object? Chris

  • validates_associated in production

    - by Rien
Hi all. Imagine a simple model. class Service belongs_to :user validates_associated :user accepts_nested_attributes_for :user end Nothing special right? The validations on the associated User model trigger correctly in development mode. But don't do anything in production. I've added a validates_on_presence :user just like the docs say. This triggers when there's no User associated with the Service, but fill in one thing on the User model and nothing happens! It's driving me up the walls. Am I overlooking something? More info about the MVC: I use formtastic for the forms. Thanks!

  • Help on using paperclip plugin

    - by Brian Roisentul
I've just installed this plugin, created the migrations, added everything I needed to make it work(I didn't install ImageMagick yet). The problem is when I get the upload control parameter to save it in my controller, I get something like this: #<File:C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Temp\RackMultipart.2560.6677> instead of a simple string, like C:\Users\Brian\AppData\Local\Temp\RackMultipart.2560.6677 And if I try to read it I get the following exception: TypeError backtrace must be Array of String What am I doing wrong? How do I read it or simply get rid of the # and < symbols?

  • "no block given" errors with cache_money

    - by emh
    i've inherited a site that in production is generating dozens of "no block given" exceptions every 5 minutes. the top of the stack trace is: vendor/gems/nkallen-cache-money-0.2.5/lib/cash/accessor.rb:42:in `add' vendor/gems/nkallen-cache-money-0.2.5/lib/cash/accessor.rb:33:in `get' vendor/gems/nkallen-cache-money-0.2.5/lib/cash/accessor.rb:22:in `call' vendor/gems/nkallen-cache-money-0.2.5/lib/cash/accessor.rb:22:in `fetch' vendor/gems/nkallen-cache-money-0.2.5/lib/cash/accessor.rb:31:in `get' so it appears that the problem is in the cache money plugin. has anyone experienced something similar? i've cut and pasted the relevant code below -- anyone more familiar with blocks able to discern any obvious problems? 11 def fetch(keys, options = {}, &block) 12 case keys 13 when Array 14 keys = keys.collect { |key| cache_key(key) } 15 hits = repository.get_multi(keys) 16 if (missed_keys = keys - hits.keys).any? 17 missed_values = block.call(missed_keys) 18 hits.merge!(missed_keys.zip(Array(missed_values)).to_hash) 19 end 20 hits 21 else 22 repository.get(cache_key(keys), options[:raw]) || (block ? block.call : nil) 23 end 24 end 25 26 def get(keys, options = {}, &block) 27 case keys 28 when Array 29 fetch(keys, options, &block) 30 else 31 fetch(keys, options) do 32 if block_given? 33 add(keys, result = yield(keys), options) 34 result 35 end 36 end 37 end 38 end 39 40 def add(key, value, options = {}) 41 if repository.add(cache_key(key), value, options[:ttl] || 0, options[:raw]) == "NOT_STORED\r\n" 42 yield 43 end 44 end

  • TextMate can't find my RSpec gem in opt (from macports)

    - by sbwoodside
I know I've had this problem before so I'm really frustrated. I've got the Ruby RSpec bundle installed for TextMate, but when I Run Behaviour Description or Run Focused Example I get this wonderful error: /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:827: in `report_activate_error': Could not find RubyGem rspec (>= 1.1.0) (Gem::LoadError) from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:261: in `activate' from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby /1.8/rubygems.rb:68:in `gem' from /Users/simon/Library/Application Support/TextMate/Bundles/Ruby RSpec.tmbundle/Support/lib/spec_mate.rb:13 from /tmp/temp_textmate.oWRPUR:3:in `require' from /tmp/temp_textmate.oWRPUR:3 (I added linebreaks to make it readable) I'm using macports so my rspec gem is installed in /opt/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/. Why isn't it finding it? In Preferences Advanced Shell Variables my TM_RUBY is set to /opt/local/bin/ruby. I also tried the trick here: http://dnite.org/2007/8/28/textmate-and-your-environment-variables/ ... which didn't do anything.

  • Only show content when certain criteria is met?

    - by Elliot
I'm wondering if theres a best practice for what I'm trying to accomplish... First we have the model categories, categories, has_many posts. Now lets say, users add posts. Now, I have a page, that I want to display only the current user's posts by category. Lets say we have the following categories: A, B, and C User 1, has posted in Categories A and B. In my view I have something like: @categories.each do |category| category.name @posts.each do |post| if post.category_id==category.id post content here end end end The problem with this, is I'm going to show the empty category, as well as the categories that do have content. Is there a more efficient way of going about this? As I don't want to show the empty categories. Best, Elliot

  • Is there a way of executing embedded ruby in a javascript file in my /public/javascripts directory?

    - by brad
I have a form with an ever-growing amount of associated javascript. At present this javascript lives in my form view which is fine, but it's getting larger and starting to overwhelm the form making it difficult to work on the form. I want to put this in a separate file in my /public/javascripts directory but a lot of the javascript is generated by embedded ruby. This embedded ruby is ignored and passed through to the browser if I just put the code here. What is the best way (if any) of having this embedded ruby executed and the javascript being generated in the same way as if it were in my view?

  • Get Mechanize to handle cookies from an arbitrary POST (to log into a website programmatically)

    - by Horace Loeb
I want to log into https://www.t-mobile.com/ programmatically. My first idea was to use Mechanize to submit the login form: However, it turns out that this isn't even a real form. Instead, when you click "Log in" some javascript grabs the values of the fields, creates a new form dynamically, and submits it. "Log in" button HTML: <button onclick="handleLogin(); return false;" class="btnBlue" id="myTMobile-login"><span>Log in</span></button> The handleLogin() function: function handleLogin() { if (ValidateMsisdnPassword()) { // client-side form validation logic var a = document.createElement("FORM"); a.name = "form1"; a.method = "POST"; a.action = mytmoUrl; // defined elsewhere as https://my.t-mobile.com/Login/LoginController.aspx var c = document.createElement("INPUT"); c.type = "HIDDEN"; c.value = document.getElementById("myTMobile-phone").value; // the value of the phone number input field c.name = "txtMSISDN"; a.appendChild(c); var b = document.createElement("INPUT"); b.type = "HIDDEN"; b.value = document.getElementById("myTMobile-password").value; // the value of the password input field b.name = "txtPassword"; a.appendChild(b); document.body.appendChild(a); a.submit(); return true } else { return false } } I could simulate this form submission by POSTing the form data to https://my.t-mobile.com/Login/LoginController.aspx with Net::HTTP#post_form, but I don't know how to get the resultant cookie into Mechanize so I can continue to scrape the UI available when I'm logged in. Any ideas?

I want to be able to have a completely generic file system that I can easily switch between using Local files and using S3 or using FTP or something like that. (Identical to VFS for Java) Has anybody used any type of generic file system for ruby (I just need it to support local files and Amazon S3) Any pointers would be much appreciated.

  • Conditional Validation with Paperclip difficult

    - by Michael Schmitz
Hi, I have an "item", which goes through a multi-page creation process. Images are uploaded at step five, and I keep track of the steps by using the attribute "complete". When validating whether an image is attached with paperclip, I get problems using the code below: validates_attachment_presence :pic1, :if => Proc.new { |u| u.complete == "step5"} It seems that I can't access the "complete" attribute, as the active-record object seems to be the paperclip image. Is there a way for me to check at which point in the process I am and validate conditionally? Thanks, Michael
