    I just finished the Netbeans introduction to Hibernate tutorial ( http://netbeans.org/kb/docs/web/hibernate-webapp.html#01 ) and I am getting the following error: "This page calls for XML namespace declared with prefix br but no taglibrary exists" Now, I have seen a similar question somewhere else: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5430327 but the answer is not listed there. Or, if it is, then I am clearly missing it -- line one of my index.xhtml file reads "http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml". It also does not explain why, when I reload localhost:8080, the message disappears.   • getDate with Jquery Datepicker

    i am trying to get date from my implementation of jquery date picker, add it to a string and display the resulting image in my div. Something however is just not working. Can anyone check out the code and have a look at it?     We are getting the error above on some pages of an ASP.NET MVC application when it is deployed to a 64 bit Windows 2008 server box. It works fine on our development machines, though these are 32 bit XP. Just wondered if anyone had encountered this before, and has any suggestions? Details as follows: Bad binary signature. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131192) Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Bad binary signature. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131192) All projects are set to compile for Any CPU, and are compiled in Release mode. The ASP.NET site is precompiled, and the precompiled build is on a 64 bit Windows 2008 TeamCity build agent. Thanks in advance. EDIT We're still plagued by this. I have looked at all the binaries in the website's bin directory using corflags.exe. None has the 32BIT flag set, and all have a CorFlags value of 9 except for Antlr3.Runtime.dll which has a value of 1. The problem only affects certain pages, and it seems to be those which use FluentValidation (including FluentValidation.Mvc and FluentValidation.xValIntegration assemblies). None of these shows anything out of the ordinary when inspected with corflags.exe, and there are no odd looking dependencies revealed by ildasm. When built locally (32 bit Windows XP) the site deploys and runs fine. When built on the build agents (64 bit Windows 2008 Server) the site displays these errors. The site runs in Integrated Pipeline mode, and is not set to 32 bit. The stack trace is: [COMException (0x80131192): Bad binary signature.   • How do you unit test a unit test?

    I was watching Rob Connerys webcasts on the MVCStoreFront App, and I noticed he was unit testing even the most mundane things, things like: public Decimal DiscountPrice { get { return this.Price - this.Discount; } } Would have a test like: [TestMethod] public void Test_DiscountPrice { Product p = new Product(); p.Price = 100; p.Discount = 20; Assert.IsEqual(p.DiscountPrice,80); } While, I am all for unit testing, I sometimes wonder if this form of test first development is really beneficial, for example, in a real process, you have 3-4 layers above your code (Business Request, Requirements Document, Architecture Document), where the actual defined business rule (Discount Price is Price - Discount) could be misdefined. If that's the situation, your unit test means nothing to you. Additionally, your unit test is another point of failure: [TestMethod] public void Test_DiscountPrice { Product p = new Product(); p.Price = 100; p.Discount = 20; Assert.IsEqual(p.DiscountPrice,90); } Now the test is flawed. Obviously in a simple test, it's no big deal, but say we were testing a complicated business rule. What do we gain here? Fast forward two years into the application's life, when maintenance developers are maintaining it. Now the business changes its rule, and the test breaks again, some rookie developer then fixes the test incorrectly...we now have another point of failure. All I see is more possible points of failure, with no real beneficial return, if the discount price is wrong, the test team will still find the issue, how did unit testing save any work? What am I missing here? Please teach me to love TDD, as I'm having a hard time accepting it as useful so far. I want too, because I want to stay progressive, but it just doesn't make sense to me. EDIT: A couple people keep mentioned that testing helps enforce the spec. It has been my experience that the spec has been wrong as well, more often than not, but maybe I'm doomed to work in an organization where the specs are written by people who shouldn't be writing specs.

    I'm writing my first C# web application that connects to an XML based service. It requires that I present a certificate and feed the XML stream. It seems to authenticate properly but then it gives the following error: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 10.1.10.4:3128 The funny thing is that I'm not on a proxy or anything like that. I'm connecting directly to the internet. At one point I we did use a proxy that with internal NAT address. So my question is: Does Visual Studio have some sort of default proxy setting that I need to change? So when there is <:-P emoticon, it stays like that and does not become &lt;:-P. I was thinking of running a regex split on the emotified text. Then processing each part on its own and then concatenating the string together, but I am not sure how easily can Regex be bypassed? I know the format will always be this: [<img class="smiley" alt="] [empty string] [" title="] [one of the values from a big list] [, ] [another value from the list (may be matching original emoticon)] [" src="ui/emoticons/] [integer from Y to X] [.gif">] Using the list MAY be slow, since I need to run that regex on text that may have 20-30-40 emoticons. Plus there may be 5-10-15 text messages to process. What could be an elegant solution to this? I am ready to use third-party library or jQuery for this. PHP preprocessing is possible as well.

  • Are there any drawbacks to class-based Javascript injection?

    A phenomena I'm seeing more and more of is Javascript code that is tied to a particular element on a particular page, rather than being tied to kinds of elements or UI patterns. For example, say we had a couple of animated menus on a page: <ul id="top-navigation"> ... </ul> <!-- ... --> <ul id="product-list"> ... </ul> These two menus might exist on the same page or on different pages, and some pages mightn't have any menus. I'll often see Javascript code like this (for these examples, I'm using jQuery): $(document).ready(function() { $('ul#top-navigation').dropdownMenu(); $('ul#product-selector').dropdownMenu(); }); Notice the problem? The Javascript is tightly coupled to particular instances of a UI pattern rather than the UI pattern itself. Now wouldn't it be so much simpler (and cleaner) to do this instead? - $(document).ready(function() { $('ul.dropdown-menu').dropdownMenu(); }); Then we can put the 'dropdown-menu' class on our lists like so: <ul id="top-navigation" class="dropdown-menu"> ... </ul> <!-- ... --> <ul id="product-list" class="dropdown-menu"> ... </ul> This way of doing things would have the following benefits: Simpler Javascript - we only need to attach once to the class. We avoid looking for specific instances that mightn't exist on a given page. If we remove an element, we don't need to hunt through the Javascript to find the attach code for that element. I believe techniques similar to this were pioneered by certain articles on alistapart.com. I'm amazed these simple techniques still haven't gained widespread adoption, and I still see 'best-practice' code-samples and Javascript frameworks referring directly to UI instances rather than UI patterns. Is there any reason for this? Is there some big disadvantage to the technique I just described that I'm unaware of?

  • Jquery draggable + toggleClass problem..

    I have a Silverlight Windows Phone 7 app that pulls data from a public API. I find myself doing much of the same thing over and over again: In the UI, set a loading message or loading progress bar in place of where the content is Get the content, which may be already in memory, cached in isolated file storage, or require an HTTP request If the content can not be acquired (no network connection, etc), display an error message If the content is acquired, display it in the UI Keep the content in main memory for subsequent queries The content that is displayed to the user can be taken directly from a data source, such as an ObservableCollection, or it may be a query on a data source. I would like to factor out this repetitive process into a framework where ideally only the following needs to be specified: Where to display the content in the UI The UI elements to show while loading, on failure, and on success The URI of the HTTP request How to parse the HTTP response into the data structure that will kept in memory The location of the file in isolated storage, if it exists How to parse the file contents into the data structure that will be kept in memory It may sound like a lot, but two strings, three FrameworkElements, and two methods is less than the overhead that I currently have. Also, this needs to work for however the data is maintained in memory, and needs to work for direct collections and queries on those collections. My questions are: Has something like this already been implemented? Are my thoughts about the topic above fundamentally wrong in some way? Here is a design I'm thinking of: There are two components, a View and a Model. The View is given the FrameworkElements for loading, failure, and success. It is also given a reference to the corresponding Model. The View is a UserControl that is placed somewhere in the UI. The Model a class that is given the URI for the data, a method of how to parse the data, and optionally a filename and how to parse the file. It is responsible for retrieving the data and notifying the View whenever the current status (loading/fail/success) changes. If the data downloaded from the network is different from the cache, the network data takes precedence. When the app closes or is tombstoned, the model writes the data to the cache. How does that sound?

    I am getting the following error message when compiling or attempting to run my application on Windows 7 64 bit. I've scoured the internet and many people have the same error message however none of the solutions address my problem or situation. Using VS 2010. Error 38 Could not load file or assembly 'file:///D:/Projects/Windows Projects/Weld/Components/FileAttachments/FileAttachments/FileAttachments/bin/x86/Debug/FileAttaching.dll' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Line 1212, position 5. D:\Projects\Windows Projects\Weld\Weld\Weld.UI\frmMain.resx 1212 5 Weld.UI Ok, so I have 2 projects a UI project and a FileAttachment project. UI project has a reference to FileAttachment project. When I compile UI project in "Any CPU" mode everything works fine and it runs. I assume 'Any CPU' will run in 64bit mode when I compile as that is the platform I am using. I want to run/compile as x86 so I try to do that, so I change configuration for all projects to x86 and verify that these configurations are compiling to x86. I compile and get the error as stated above. I find it odd that it compiles and works fine in 64bit but not 32bit. However when compiled and deployed to users as 'Any CPU', if these users have x86 it still works for them no problem. I just can't compile or run as x86 on my PC. Again, I can compile as Any CPU and deploy to a 32bit PC no problem. Neither project are referencing any 64bit only dlls. Both projects are verified to be targetting 32bit dll's and .NET Framework assemblies. I need to compile and run this locally under 32bit mode. I need JIT edit/continue among other things.   • Parallelism in .NET – Part 19, TaskContinuationOptions

    My introduction to Task continuations demonstrates continuations on the Task class.  In addition, I’ve shown how continuations allow handling of multiple tasks in a clean, concise manner.  Continuations can also be used to handle exceptional situations using a clean, simple syntax. In addition to standard Task continuations , the Task class provides some options for filtering continuations automatically.  This is handled via the TaskContinationOptions enumeration, which provides hints to the TaskScheduler that it should only continue based on the operation of the antecedent task. However, if the factorize task has an exception – for example, if the Factorize method throws an exception due to an improper input value, the second continuation will run.  This occurs due to the specification of TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnFaulted in the options.  In this case, we’ll report the error received to the user. We can use TaskContinuationOptions to filter our continuations by whether or not an exception occurred and whether or not a task was cancelled.  This allows us to handle many situations, and is especially useful when trying to maintain a valid application state without ever blocking the user interface.  The same concepts can be extended even further, and allow you to chain together many tasks based on the success of the previous ones.  Continuations can even be used to create a state machine with full error handling, all without blocking the user interface thread.

  • How to use crontab, .netrc, and git push?

    Hi all, I am in the process of automating the backups from various servers to a central point then pushing those config changes into a git repo so i can track any changes over time. The rest of the scripts are working well, I can copy / rsync the files across the network to a central point. The last script is to get the config files to be put into / updated in repository.     I have already posted about http handler in details before some time here. Now let’s create an http handler which will handle my custom extension. For that we need to create a http handlers class which will implement Ihttphandler. As we are implementing IHttpHandler we need to implement one method called process request and another one is isReusable property.
