  • Generate unique ID from multiple values with fault tolerance

    Given some values, I'd like to make a (pretty darn) unique result. $unique1 = generate(array('ab034', '981kja7261', '381jkfa0', 'vzcvqdx2993883i3ifja8', '0plnmjfys')); //now $unique1 == "sqef3452y"; I also need something that's pretty close to return the same result. In this case, 20% of the values is missing. $unique2 = generate(array('ab034', '981kja7261', '381jkfa0', 'vzcvqdx2993883i3ifja8')); //also $unique2 == "sqef3452y"; I'm not sure where to begin with such an algorithm but I have some assumptions. I assume that the more values given, the more accurate the resulting ID – in other words, using 20 values is better than 5. I also assume that a confidence factor can be calculated and adjusted. What would be nice to have is a weight factor where one can say 'value 1 is more important than value 3'. This would require a multidimensional array for input instead of one dimension. I just mashed on the keyboard for these values, but in practice they may be short or long alpha numeric values.

    I currently have 2 domain names that I want to setup different websites for. I am currently looking at using some free hosting that works well for my current needs but doesn't give me any way to point "mydomain.com" to the actual site. Instead I have to give users a longer, harder to remember url. My proposed solution is to point my domains to my home ip and host a small ASP.NET app through IIS consisting of a redirect page that simply redirects to the appropriate site. Is there a way in ASP.NET to recognize which domain url was requested in order to know where to redirect the page to?

    I have a 4MB log file from the Windows XP firewall which I'm trying to find lines that have both DROP and an IP and a port number. My regex-fu is weak and I'm assuming this is the reason I'm struggling. The words "DROP", "10.1.1.1" (for example) and "8801" need to be found on the same line and may be spread across the line and separated by one or more other words. Any help (or suggestions of another method to do this) are much appreciated.

My current solution uses preg (within a Joomla plugin) $pattern = '/matchthisterm/i'; $article->text = preg_replace($pattern,"<span class=\"highlight\">\\0</span>",$article->text); But this replaces everything within the HTML of the document so I need to match the tags first. Is this even the best way to achieve this?

    I need to import data from 50 similar csv files to a single excel sheet. Is there any way to get only selected columns from each file and put them together in one sheet. Structure of my csv files: A few columns exactly same in all the files. (I want them to be in excel) then one column with same column name but different data which I want to place next to each other with different names in the excel sheet. I do not not want all other remaining columns from csv files. In short, read all csv files, get all the columns which are common to all csv & put in excel sheet. Now, take one column from each file which has the same header but different data and put one after the other in excel sheet with named from the csv file name. Leave remaining rest of the columns. Write excel sheet to a excel file. Initially I thought it can be easily done, but considering my programming skill in learning stage it is way difficult for me. Please help.

    Hello all, I've been assigned the task to design a temporary customer tracking system in MS Access 2007 (sheeeesh!). The tables and relationships have all been setup successfully. But I'm running into a minor problem while trying to design the data entry form for one table... Here's a bit of explanation first. The screen contains 3 dropdown boxes (apart from other fields). 1st dropdown The first dropdown (cboMarket) represents the Market lets users select between 2 options: Domestic International Since the first dropdown contains only 2 items I didn't bother making a table for it. I added them as pre-defined list items. 2nd dropdown Once the user makes a selection in this one, the second dropdown (cboLeadCategory) loads up a list of Lead Categories, namely, Fairs & Exhibitions, Agents, Press Ads, Online Ads etc. Different sets of lead categories are utilized for the 2 markets. Hence this box is dependent on the 1st one. Structure of the bound table, named Lead_Cateogries for the 2nd combo is: ID Autonumber Lead_Type TEXT <- actually a list that takes up Domestic or International Lead_Category_Name TEXT 3rd dropdown And based on the choice of category in the 2nd one, the third one (cboLeadSource) is supposed to display a pre-defined set of lead sources belonging to the particular category. Table is named Lead_Sources and the structure is: ID Autonumber Lead_Category NUMBER <- related to ID of Lead Categories table Lead_Source TEXT When I make the selection in the 1st dropdown, the AfterUpdate event of the combo is called, which instructs the 2nd dropdown to load contents: Private Sub cboMarket_AfterUpdate() Me![cboLead_Category].Requery End Sub The Row Source of the 2nd combo contains a query: SELECT Lead_Categories.ID, Lead_Categories.Lead_Category_Name FROM Lead_Categories WHERE Lead_Categories.Lead_Type=[cboMarket] ORDER BY Lead_Categories.Lead_Category_Name; The AfterUpdate event of 2nd combo is: Private Sub cboLeadCategory_AfterUpdate() Me![cboLeadSource].Requery End Sub The Row Source of 3rd combo contains: SELECT Leads_Sources.ID, Leads_Sources.Lead_Source FROM Leads_Sources WHERE [Lead_Sources].[Lead_Category]=[Lead_Categories].[ID] ORDER BY Leads_Sources.Lead_Source; Problem When I select Market type from cboMarket, the 2nd combo cboLeadCategory loads up the appropriate Categories without a hitch. When I enter anything into this prompt (valid or invalid data), I get yet another prompt: Why is this happening? Why isn't the 3rd box loading the source names as desired.     I'm trying to optimize SQL queries in Akonadi and came across the following problem that is apparently not easy to solve with SQL, at least for me: Assume the following table structure (should work in SQLite, PostgreSQL, MySQL): CREATE TABLE a ( a_id INT PRIMARY KEY ); INSERT INTO a (a_id) VALUES (1), (2), (3), (4); CREATE TABLE b ( b_id INT PRIMARY KEY, a_id INT, name VARCHAR(255) NOT NULL ); INSERT INTO b (b_id, a_id, name) VALUES (1, 1, 'foo'), (2, 1, 'bar'), (3, 1, 'asdf'), (4, 2, 'foo'), (5, 2, 'bar'), (6, 3, 'foo'); Now my problem is to find entries in a that are missing name entries in table b. E.g. I need to make sure each entry in a has at least the name entries "foo" and "bar" in table b. Hence the query should return something similar to: a_id = 3 is missing name "bar" a_id = 4 is missing name "foo" and "bar" Since both tables are potentially huge in Akonadi, performance is of utmost importance. One solution in MySQL would be: SELECT a.a_id, CONCAT('|', GROUP_CONCAT(name ORDER BY NAME ASC SEPARATOR '|'), '|') as names FROM a LEFT JOIN b USING( a_id ) GROUP BY a.a_id HAVING names IS NULL OR names NOT LIKE '%|bar|foo|%'; I have yet to measure the performance tomorrow, but severly doubt it's any fast for tens of thousand of entries in a and thrice as many in b.     Basically I'm trying to make a little app for watching offline content. So there's a moment where the user selects to download the contents (and the app should download about 300 small files and images). I'd like to show the user how does the process go if he enters the proper activity. Showing a list of all the files, telling what has been already downloaded, in progress or waiting for download. My problem is that I really don't know what approach to take for achieve this. Since the download should last until finished I imagine the solution is an Service, but whats best? an IntentService, a Bound Service or an Standard Service calling a startService() for each download? And how can I keep my objects updated for displaying them later? should I use a database or objects in memory? Thanks

    We're using eclipse and svn. We keep the .project file in version control. The problem is, if you have more than one checked-out project (e.g. a trunk checkout and a feature branch) and would like them both to be available in Eclipse, you lose, because the .project files are identical and therefore can't both be imported into Eclipse. What's the right way to deal with this? (I'm mostly having to deal with this in TI's Code Composer v4 which uses an older version of eclipse, but I'm also going to need to do this in the regular Eclipse)

    I have 3 tables: shops, PRIMARY KEY cid,zbid shop_items, PRIMARY KEY id shop_inventory, PRIMARY KEY id shops a is related to shop_items b by the following: a.cid=b.cid AND a.zbid=b.szbid shops is not directly related to shop_inventory shop_items b is related to shop_inventory c by the following: b.cid=c.cid AND b.id=c.iid Now, I would like to run a query which returns a.* (all columns from shops). That would be: SELECT a.* FROM shops a WHERE a.cid=1 AND a.zbid!=0 Note that the WHERE clause is necessary. Next, I want to return the number of items in each shop: SELECT a.*, COUNT(b.id) items FROM shops a LEFT JOIN shop_items b ON b.cid=a.cid AND b.szbid=a.zbid WHERE a.cid=1 GROUP BY b.szbid,b.cid As you can see, I have added a GROUP BY clause for this to work. Next, I want to return the average price of each item in the shop. This isn't too hard: SELECT a.*, COUNT(b.id) items, AVG(COALESCE(b.price,0)) average_price FROM shops a LEFT JOIN shop_items b ON b.cid=a.cid AND b.szbid=a.zbid WHERE a.cid=1 GROUP BY b.szbid,b.cid My next criteria is where it gets complicated. I also want to return the unique buyers for each shop. This can be done by querying shop_inventory c, getting the COUNT(DISTINCT c.zbid). Now remember how these tables are related; this should only be done for the rows in c which relate to an item in b which is owned by the respective shop, a. I tried doing the following: SELECT a.*, COUNT(b.id) items, AVG(COALESCE(b.price,0)) average_price, COUNT(DISTINCT c.zbid) FROM shops a LEFT JOIN shop_items b ON b.cid=a.cid AND b.szbid=a.zbid LEFT JOIN shop_inventory c ON c.cid=b.cid AND c.iid=b.id WHERE a.cid=1 GROUP BY b.szbid,b.cid However, this did not work as it messed up the items value. What is the proper way to achieve this result? I also want to be able to return the total number of purchases made in each shop. This would be done by looking at shop_inventory c and adding up the c.quantity value for each shop. How would I add that in as well?

  • WPF problem modify style of images in multiple Button Templates

    I'm trying to create a control panel for a video camera, the panel has buttons for up, down, left and right etc. Each camera function up, down, left and right is represented by three images (see code below) for the left side, middle and right side. The control panel is circular so the corner images kind of overlap (its complicated to explain this without a visual). When I click on up for example I have to hide the initial three images (leftside, middle and right side) and display another three images for left , middle and right that indicate that the button is pressed. I am achieving this by having a grid inside a button template. The problem I have is that for the corner images for the control there are really four images that represent this. For example for the top left corner the four images would be represent 1. Top not clicked. 2. Top Clicked and 3. Left Not clicked and 4. Left Clicked. My problem is if I need to make the images contained within the Top button have precedence when the top control is clicked or the images in the left button have precedence when the left button is clicked. So it's like I want to modify the left button's image visible property when the top button is clicked and vise versa. This is really difficult to explain so I apologize if it makes little sense but I can email the source code on request if anyone is interested in my predicament. <Grid> <Canvas> <!--<StackPanel>-->   • Supporting rotation sensors in Symbian across multiple devices in one executable

    I'm puzzling my head as to how some application appear to support the couple of Rotational Sensor APIs for Symbian, specifically the Sensor API and the Sensor Framework (both the 5th ed. and the 3rd ed. FP2 backport). For example, I believe that Gravity will support rotation in N95 and also newer models from the same binary (could be wrong there...). If I use the Sensor Framework then my app will not install on an N95 (it gives me a System Error -1), whereas if I use the Sensor API (RRSensor) then it will only install on an N95 and no other phones. This is most likely due to the available libraries on those devices. I am trying to find some way of abstracting things such that I can use exactly the same binary for all devices. The only alternative I can see is trying to use ECOM plugins and then installing the relevant library using conditionals in my PKG file. Does anyone know of a better/easier way?

  • MySql returning multiple rows from stored procedure / function

    Hi, I need to make a stored procedure or function that returns a set of rows. I've noted that in a stored procedure i can SELECT * FROM table with success. If i fetch rows in a loop and SELECT something, something_other FROM table once per loop execution, I only get one single result. What I need to do is looping, doing some calculations and returning a rowset. What's the best way to do this? A temporary table? Stored functions? Any help appreciated.

You might need to add explicit type casts. The function returns an integer array, is that the problem? SELECT * from fn_category_get_childs_v2(12) retrieves the following array (integer[]): '{30,32,34,20,19,18,17,16,15,14}'

  • C# Spawn Multiple Threads for work then wait until all finished

    just want some advice on "best practice" regarding multi-threading tasks. as an example, we have a C# application that upon startup reads data from various "type" table in our database and stores the information in a collection which we pass around the application. this prevents us from hitting the database each time this information is required. at the moment the application is reading data from 10 tables synchronously. i would really like to have the application read from each table in a different thread all running in parallel. the application would wait for all the threads to complete before continuing with the startup of the application. i have looked into BackGroundWorker but just want some advice on accomplishing the above. Does the method sound logical in order to speed up the startup time of our application How can we best handle all the threads keeping in mind that each thread's work is independent of one another, we just need to wait for all the threads to complete before continuing. i look forward to some answers

The format is: strConn = "ODBC;Driver=SQL;Server=SQL1;Database=DB1;Uid=1;Pwd=1" I have this in 4 sheets, but there will be times when I will want to change it to call from SQL2 or SQL3, and instead of changing the code on each sheet 4 times, I want to change it only once. Is there a way to set up that line to run by calling it from somewhere else or by passing in a string into the ""?

  • Communication between Multiple Threads in a WPF Application

    I'm creating a WPF application that uses a custom object to populate all the controls. The constructor of that object is initiated by an EventHandler that waits for an API. The problem I'm having is when I try to access any information from that object using a button for example, it returns an error saying "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it". I'm assuming this is because the EventHandler creates a new thread which doesn't allow the Main Thread to have access to it. Any ideas on how to get around this? I'm basically having the error "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it" when trying to get or set a CollectionViewSource.
