  • ActiveMerchant - Optimal method of sending money to user? PayPal account or Credit

    - by Kevin
I have a website that will take payments from user A, hold them in our escrow account, then transfer the money minus a fee to user B. I have the first part figured out, in terms of taking credit card payments from user A, but I'm trying to figure out the optimal method of taking that money and sending it to user B. I'm not storing credit card info due to privacy and I don't mind requiring user B to sign up for a PayPal account if they're going to use the system but I don't know how to directly send payments to a PayPal account. I'm using ActiveMerchant and the PayPal gateway on Rails 2.3.5. I'm also open to any suggestions as to what the optimal method is to take money from user A, hold it for 1-60 days, then transfer it to user B while incurring minimal fees and something I can implement in Rails hopefully that won't cause me to have an aneurysm.

  • Masks and transparency

    - by Henrik
Hi, I'm fairly new to Shoes and ran into two problems. First I want to set a mask using a partially transparent png, like this: mask do image "images/stencilMask.png" end Is this possible somehow or can only vector shapes be used? Apart from that, I noticed a small bug(?) when trying to set a transparent color as a stroke on any kind of text, like this: title "Hello", :stroke => rgb(1.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.5) The transparency simply isn't applied. Am I doing anything wrong, or is this actually a bug? Cheers and thanks for all answers

  • combinations of sizes for shipping

    - by Eadz
Hi there, I've got a bunch of products with sizes to ship and I need to find out the cheapest rate. Given a shipment made out of sizes, say [1,3,3,5] I need to decide how to ship - all together or separate. However it's not as simple as [1,3,3,5] or 1 & 3 & 3 & 5, i need all of the possible combinations something like: [ [[1,3,3,5]], ( 1 shipment ) [[1],[3,3,5]], ( 2 shipments ) [[1,3],[3,5]], ( 2 shipments ) [[1,3,3],[5]], ( 2 shipments ) [[1,5],[3,3]], ( 2 shipments ) [[1,3],[3],[5]], ( 3 shipments ) [[1],[3],[3],[5]] ( 4 shipments ) ] ( etc - many more i assume ) I've tried combinations from the facets gem but it's not quite what i'm after, and I'm not sure how else to approach this problem. I understand it probably has a name and a solution if only I knew the name :) I understand there could be a lot of combinations, but the initial array of sizes won't be larger than 7 or so. Thanks in advance!

My problem is that I try to upload an image and some text values to an rails server, and the text values end up as files, insted of just param values. • Rails 3.1 text_field form helper and jQuery datepicker date format

    - by DanyW
I have a form field in my Rails view like this: <%= f.text_field :date, :class => "datepicker" %> A javascript function converts all input fields of that class to a jQueryUI datepicker. $(".datepicker").datepicker({ dateFormat : "dd MM yy", buttonImageOnly : true, buttonImage : "<%= asset_path('iconDatePicker.gif') %>", showOn : "both", changeMonth : true, changeYear : true, yearRange : "c-20:c+5" }) So far so good. I can edit the record and it persists the date correctly all the way to the DB. My problem is when I want to edit the record again. When the form is pre-populated from the record it displays in 'yyyy-mm-dd' format. The javascript only formats dates which are selected in the datepicker control. Is there any way I can format the date retrieved from the database? At which stage can I do this? Thanks, Dany. Some more details following the discussion below, my form is spread across two files, a view and a partial. Here's the view: <%= form_tag("/shows/update_individual", :method => "put") do %> <% for show in @shows %> <%= fields_for "shows[]", show do |f| %> <%= render "fields", :f => f %> <% end %> <% end %> <%= submit_tag "Submit"%> <% end %> And here's the _fields partial view: <p> <%= f.label :name %> <%= f.text_field :name %> </p> <p> <%= f.date %> <%= f.label :date %> <%= f.text_field :date, :class => "datepicker" %> </p> Controller code: def edit_individual @shows = Show.find(params[:show_ids]) end

  • Git access on Heroku deployment and others: connection refused

    - by Toby Hede
I have suddenly run into an issue using git. I created a new app, went to push to Heroku and now see: ssh: connect to host heroku.com port 22: Connection refused My other previously working Heroku apps no longer work, receiving the same error. Other Heroku commands work (create, info, db:push). I also see the error when accessing Git on my unfuddle accounts. I can SSH to other services, so it doesn't look like it's my machine. Any ideas?

  • Resources for widget creation

    - by Kenji Crosland
My rails app is about to go live and I'm trying to figure out how to create a widget based on data on the site. My Javascript is not too hot--limited to the O'reilly head first book on JS. I can read simple Javascript okay but when it comes to writing it I'm a little lost. That said, I hope to roll out a widget, maybe a wordpress plugin too soon after my app is launched. Does anyone know of any rails plugins, javascript templates, tutorials or books that can get me going? I did ask a similar question before here: But my limited knowledge of JS kept me from implementing the suggested answer properly.

  • ActiveScaffold custom action_link that should respond like update

    - by doug316
I have a custom action link which is :inline and :post. It's a quick-link to update an attribute, and that part works just fine. After the action, my intent is to respond just like it was an update, so the row is re-rendered in the index. After the record is updated in my controller action, I call respond_to_action(:create) Just like in the create method in active scaffold. It seems like the content of the javascript response is returned correctly to the client, however, the problem: The content-type of the response header is "text/html" instead of "text/javascript", unlike with an actual update. So the JS is not executed and the row doesn't update. I can't figure out what the difference could possibly be here, I've traced extensively and even have replaced the respond_to_action with: respond_to do |format| format.js do render ... end end And it still won't set the content-type like every other action in the app. Anybody have a clue here? Something in active scaffold must be overriding the content-type and I can't figure out what it might be. Surprising this isn't documented, this doesn't seem like an unusual use-case, making an action a slave to the update re-render.

  • Unpacking gems [Rails 2.3.5]

    - by yuval
I have the following gems defined in my environment.rb file: config.gem "authlogic" config.gem "paperclip" config.gem "pauldix-feedzirra", :lib => "feedzirra", :source => "http://gems.github.com" config.gem 'whenever', :lib => false, :source => 'http://gemcutter.org/' I have them installed on my local computer and everything is working well. Since I am working on a shared-server (DreamHost), I need to unpack those gems to get them to work (can't install them as I did on my own computer to get them to work). Before uploading, I ran the following on my local machine: rake gems:unpack This created the following folders in /vender/gems: authlogic-2.1.3, paperclip-2.3.1.1, pauldix-feedzirra-0.0.18, whenever-0.4.1 So it looks like they're all there. When I run rake db:migrate on the server, though, I get these following error: Missing these required gems: pauldix-feedzirra For some reason, the feedzirra unpacked gem is not detected. Could anybody give me a clue as to why this is happening and how to solve it? Thanks!

  • Rails can't render polymorphic associations to XML?

    - by ambertch
When I render XML with an :include clause for a polymorphic association I have, it doesn't work. I end up with the XML returning the object pointers instead of the actual objects, like: <posts> #<Comment:0x102ed1540>#<Comment:0x102ecaa38>#<Comment:0x102ec7fe0>#<Comment:0x102ec3cd8> </posts> Yet as_json works! When I render JSON with :include clause, the associations are rendered correctly and I get something like: posts":[ {"type":"Comment","created_at":"2010-04-20T23:02:30-07:00","id":7,"content":"fourth comment"}, {"type":"Comment","created_at":"2010-04-20T23:02:26-07:00","id":6,"content":"third comment"}] My current workaround is using XML builder, but I'm not too comfortable with that in the long run. Does anyone happen to know about this issue? I'm kind of in a catch-22 because while XML doesn't render the associations, as_json doesn't render in a kosher json format (returns an array rather than a list of hashes as proper json should) and the deserializer I'm using on the client side would require modification to parse the json correctly.

  • Adding STI to Existing Table...

    - by keruilin
I want to add STI to an existing table using a custom type column. Let's call this taste_type whose corresponding model is Fruit. In the Fruit model I have: set_inheritance_column :taste_type In my migration to add STI I have: class AddSTI < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up add_column :fruits, :taste_type, :string, :limit => 100, :null => false Fruit.reset_column_information Fruit.find_by_id(1).update_attributes({:taste_type => 'Sour'}) end def self.down remove_column :fruits, :taste_type end end When I run the migration, I get the following error: Mysql::Error: Column 'taste_type' cannot be null: ... Any idea what's going? I can get the migration to run if I comment the set_inheritance_column in the Fruit model, then uncomment it after I run the migration. Obviously, I don't want to do this, however.

  • Self documenting REST interface

    - by KandadaBoggu
I have a Rails based server running several REST services and a Rails based web UI that interacts with the server using ActiveResource. Same server is being used by other clients( e.g: mobile). I have to generate documentation for the REST interface. I need to provide service URL, input/output and error document structure for each service. Ideally, I would like to use an interceptor at the server side that will document the service based on the existing traffic. I am wondering if there is a gem to do this.

Thank you

  • Can you let users upload Sinatra apps and run them inside Rails as middleware?

    - by Brian Armstrong
I want to let users write small custom apps (think themes or plugins on Wordpress) and upload/run them on my site. I'm thinking about using Sinatra apps for this since it would give the users a lot of flexibility, and then running them as middleware inside my rails app. But I can't figure out the security implications of this. I tried creating a simple sinatra app as middleware, and it has access to all the rails models and everything - so that is bad. Is there a way for rack to keep these separate so that the sinatra apps are effectively sandboxed and can't do any bad things (outside of an API or some specific way I setup for them to communicate)? There may be an easier way to accomplish this that I haven't thought of too, so ideas welcome. Thanks!

I have the usual links the view helper provides except every page after page one links to http://localhost:3000/ceo/gr_messages?page=2 I have tried to add the :order option with no luck. I have also ensured that the request is a get as mentioned on this page: http://wiki.github.com/mislav/will_paginate/simple-search Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

I want to move all my static files (images, javascript, css) to an Amazon S3 bucket when I deploy my app, as well as rewrite those paths in my app, is there a simple way to accomplish this? or am I in for a huge amount of work here?

  • Rails: AJAX Controller JS not firing...

    - by neezer
    I'm having an issue with one of my controller's AJAX functionality. Here's what I have: class PhotosController < ApplicationController # ... def create @photo = Photo.new(params[:photo]) @photo.image_content_type = MIME::Types.type_for(@photo.image_file_name).to_s @photo.image_width = Paperclip::Geometry.from_file(params[:photo][:image]).width.to_i @photo.image_height = Paperclip::Geometry.from_file(params[:photo][:image]).height.to_i @photo.save! respond_to do |format| format.js end end # ... end This is called through a POST request sent by this code: $(function() { // add photos link $('a.add-photos-link').colorbox({ overlayClose: false, onComplete: function() { wire_add_photo_modal(); } }); function wire_add_photo_modal() { <% session_key = ActionController::Base.session_options[:key] %> $('#upload_photo').uploadify({ uploader: '/swf/uploadify.swf', script: '/photos', cancelImg: '/images/buttons/cancel.png', buttonText: 'Upload Photo(s)', auto: true, queueID: 'queue', fileDataName: 'photo[image]', scriptData: { '<%= session_key %>': '<%= u cookies[session_key] %>', commit: 'Adding Photo', controller: 'photos', action: 'create', '_method': 'post', 'photo[gallery_id]': $('#gallery_id').val(), 'photo[user_id]': $('#user_id').val(), authenticity_token: encodeURIComponent('<%= u form_authenticity_token if protect_against_forgery? %>') }, multi: true }); } }); Finally, I have my response code in app/views/photos/create.js.erb: alert('photo added!'); My log file shows that the request was successful (the photo was successfully uploaded), and it even says that it rendered the create action, yet I never get the alert. My browser shows NO javascript errors.
