    I am going through some exam questions for the 70-536 exam and an actual question one developer posted on his blog has popped up in my exam questions. I cannot remember what his answer was .... but below is the question: You need to write a multicast delegate that accepts a DateTime argument and returns a bool value. Which code segment should you use? A: public delegate int PowerDeviceOn(bool, DateTime) B: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(Object, EventArgs) C: public delegate void PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) D: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) The answer is A. Can someone please explain why? As I already did some research into this question a while ago and so I was sure that it was C, obviously now looking back at the question its clear that I did not read properly. As i was sure I had seen the same one before so I jumped to the most obvious one. A variation on this question: You need to write a multicast delegate that accepts a DateTime argument. Which code segment should you use? A: public delegate int PowerDeviceOn(bool, DateTime) B: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(Object, EventArgs) C: public delegate void PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) D: public delegate bool PowerDeviceOn(DateTime) Now this is another variation on this question, it still has the same bogus sample answers, as they still kind work in throwing the exam taker off. Notice how by simply keeping the sample answers the same and by removing a small portion of the question text, the answer is C and not A. The variation has no official answer as I just conjured it up using the exam question as a baseplate. The answer is definitely C. This time round its easy to see why C is correct but the very first question I have an inkling but as you know an inkling is not good enough in passing exams. Thanks For Reading.

  • Is any solution the correct solution?

    I always think to myself after solving a programming challenge that I have been tied up with for some time, "It works, thats good enough". I don't think this is really the correct mindset, in my opinion and I think I should always be trying to code with the greatest performance. Anyway, with this said, I just tried a ProjectEuler question. Specifically question #2. How could I have improved this solution. I feel like its really verbose.   • Lucene complex structure search

    Basically I do have pretty simple database that I'd like to index with Lucene. Domains are: // Person domain class Person { Set<Pair> keys; } // Pair domain class Pair { KeyItem keyItem; String value; } // KeyItem domain, name is unique field within the DB (!!) class KeyItem{ String name; } I've tens of millions of profiles and hundreds of millions of Pairs, however, since most of KeyItem's "name" fields duplicates, there are only few dozens KeyItem instances. Came up to that structure to save on KeyItem instances. Basically any Profile with any fields could be saved into that structure. Lets say we've profile with properties - name: Andrew Morton - eduction: University of New South Wales, - country: Australia, - occupation: Linux programmer. To store it, we'll have single Profile instance, 4 KeyItem instances: name, education,country and occupation, and 4 Pair instances with values: "Andrew Morton", "University of New South Wales", "Australia" and "Linux Programmer". All other profile will reference (all or some) same instances of KeyItem: name, education, country and occupation. My question is, how to index all of that so I can search for Profile for some particular values of KeyItem::name and Pair::value. Ideally I'd like that kind of query to work: name:Andrew* AND occupation:Linux* Should I create custom Indexer and Searcher? Or I could use standard ones and just map KeyItem and Pair as Lucene components somehow?

    What is your most commonly used namespace in .NET. I know it will vary greatly based upon the types of projects you develop but the stack overflow audience should provide a fairly decent sample set for the types of .NET projects being developed. I'm simply interest in the name of the namespace (one namespace per answer and no one person should have more than one answer, if someone else has the same answer as you then just upvote their answer). Try to be as specific as possible (so answering System, isn't helpful). I'm after this information to help new developers focus their attention on the most common .NET namespaces...there are after all thousands of them! To start off mine is almost certainly System.Collections.Generic, I use lists of things everywhere.

  • Passing data with Rails' link_to helper

    I am implementing a question-and-answer application with Ruby on Rails. I have MVCs for Questions and Answers. In the home view (index.haml), I list the Questions like this: - @questions.each do |q| %tr %td =link_to q.title, q Next to each of those, I want to add a link that will create a new Answer and pass the id of the Question in that row (continued from the above Haml code) : %td #{link_to 'answer me!', new_answer_path, pass q.id here somehow?} I don't know how to properly pass it and then access it in AnswersController. I tried #{link_to 'answer me!', new_answer_path, :question_id => q.id}, but that was just a guess, and I don't know how to access that in AnswersController. I read the Rails API docs, and I know you can add query, too, but I still don't know how to access the value in AnswersController.

  • TFS and code coverage for web application (MVC) assemblies not working

    I've got an MVC web application with associated controller tests that run under a TFS build as per normal. I can see the tests running and passing in the build log and they appear in the "Result details for Any CPU/Release" section of the build I also have a number of other assemblies with associated tests that are running in the same build. Tests are passing and the details are being shown in the results and logs just fine. I've enabled code coverage in the build script and the testrunconfig. The coverage is appearing for all assemblies EXCEPT the web application even though it looks like the tests have been run for it. Is there anything obvious that I have missed or some sort of work around that I need to do? I've searched around for a while and haven't found an answer. Has anyone got code coverage working for MVC web applications?

  • How to test an application for correct encoding (e.g. UTF-8)

    Encoding issues are among the one topic that have bitten me most often during development. Every platform insists on its own encoding, most likely some non-UTF-8 defaults are in the game. (I'm usually working on Linux, defaulting to UTF-8, my colleagues mostly work on german Windows, defaulting to ISO-8859-1 or some similar windows codepage) I believe, that UTF-8 is a suitable standard for developing an i18nable application. However, in my experience encoding bugs are usually discovered late (even though I'm located in Germany and we have some special characters that along with ISO-8859-1 provide some detectable differences). I believe that those developers with a completely non-ASCII character set (or those that know a language that uses such a character set) are getting a head start in providing test data. But there must be a way to ease this for the rest of us as well. What [technique|tool|incentive] are people here using? How do you get your co-developers to care for these issues? How do you test for compliance? Are those tests conducted manually or automatically? Adding one possible answer upfront: I've recently discovered fliptitle.com (they are providing an easy way to get weird characters written "u?op ?pisdn" *) and I'm planning on using them to provide easily verifiable UTF-8 character strings (as most of the characters used there are at some weird binary encoding position) but there surely must be more systematic tests, patterns or techniques for ensuring UTF-8 compatibility/usage. Note: Even though there's an accepted answer, I'd like to know of more techniques and patterns if there are some. Please add more answers if you have more ideas. And it has not been easy choosing only one answer for acceptance. I've chosen the regexp answer for the least expected angle to tackle the problem although there would be reasons to choose other answers as well. Too bad only one answer can be accepted.     Hi all, I'm building a quiz and user has 5 seconds to respond to the qeustion if he doesn't resond within the time the answer is 3(wich is a code for no answer).   • rails nested attributes

    I am using rails 3.0.0.beta3 and I am trying to implement form with nested attributes using :accepts_nested_attributes_for. My form is nested to three levels: Survey Question Answer. Survey has_many Questions, and Question has many Answers. Inside the Survey model, there is :accepts_nested_attributes_for :questions and inside the question mode, there is :accepts_nested_attributes_for :answers Everything is working fine except when I add a new answer to an existing question, it doesn't get created. However, if I make changes to the corresponding question while creating the answer, I can successfully create the answer. This example is exactly similar to a railscast: http://railscasts.com/episodes/197-nested-model-form-part-2 but doesn't work in rails3 (at least in my case). Please let me know if there is any issue with nested attributes in Rails 3. Thanks in advance.

    Hi all, I would like to have an advice for this issue: I am using Jbos 5.1.0, EJB3.0 I have system, which sending requests via UDP'S to remote modems, and suppose to wait for an answer from the target modem. the remote modems support only UDP calls, therefor I o design asynchronous mechanism. (also coz I want to request X modems parallel) this is what I try to do: all calls are retrieved from Data Base, then each call will be added as a message to JMS QUE. let's say i will set X MDB'S on that que, so I can work asynchronous. now each MDB will send UDP request to the IP-address(remote modem) which will be parsed from the que message. so basicly each MDB, which takes a message is sending a udp request to the remote modem and [b]waiting [/b]for an answer from that modem. [u]now here is the BUG:[/u] could happen a scenario where MDB will get an answer, but not from the right modem( which it requested in first place). that bad scenario cause two wrong things: a. the sender which sent the message will wait forever since the message never returned to him(it got accepted by another MDB). b. the MDB which received the message is not the right one, and probablly if it was on a "listener" mode, then it supposed to wait for an answer from diffrent sender.(else it wouldnt get any messages) so ofcourse I can handle everything with a RETRY mechanisem. so both mdb's(the one who got message from the wrong sender, and the one who never got the answer) will try again, to do thire operation with a hope that next time it will success. This is the mechanism, mybe you could tell me if there is any design pattren, or any other effective solution for this problem? Thanks, ray.

    I am creating a quiz app which has 2 views, MMAppViewController and a subview Level1View. I have declared NSInteger property "theScore" in the MMAppViewController view and have synthesised it. In my Level1View when they answer a correct question the "theScore" int will increase by one. The score has to be a global variable because when you reach so many points it will unlock the next level. For some reason in my switch statement it only lets me use the setTheScore method once. I am getting errors for every other set method in the switch statement. Error: "Duplicate label setTheScore".
