  • Why web application on https stops working after windows update?

    On Windows Server 2008 R2 I have several web applications on IIS7. One of these applications has https binding with SSL certificate. However after every windows update this one application stops working. Browser says that server is unavailable. It starts working again when I simply open IIS manager, select that https binding, click edit and without changing anything click OK. Why is this happening?

  • can not connect to web page when i am connected to server

    tracert mojpacient.si return over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 89-212-252-73.static.t-2.net [89.212.252.73] but if in browser i run www.mojpacient.si when i am connected to server i get connection timeout. If i am out of local network then i can connect to mojpacient.si Does anyone have any idea how is this possible and what is wrong. I suspect IIS7 but do not know what in IIS7.

  • Run CGI in IIS 7 to work with GET without Requiring POST Request

    I'm trying to migrate an old CGI application from an existing Windows 2003 server (IIS 6.0) where it works just fine to a new Windows 2008 server with IIS 7.0 where we're getting the following problem: After setting up the module handler and everything, I find that I can only access the CGI application (rdbweb.exe) file if I'm calling it via POST request (form submit from another page). If I just try to type in the URL of the file (issuing a GET request) I get the following error: HTTP Error 502.2 - Bad Gateway The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are "Exception EInOutError in module rdbweb.exe at 00039B44. I/O error 6. ". This is a very old application for one of our clients. When we tried to call the vendor they said we need to pay ~ $3000 annual support fee in order to start the talk about it. Of course I'm trying to avoid that! Note that: If we create a normal HTML form that submits to "rdbweb.exe", we get the CGI working normally. We can't use this as workaround though because some pages in the application link to "rdbweb.exe" with normal link not form submit. If we run "rdbweb.exe". from a Console (Command Prompt) Window not IIS, we get the normal HTML we'd typically expect, no problem. We have tried the following: Ensuring the CGI module mapped to "rdbweb.exe".in IIS has all permissions (read, write, execute) enabled and also all verbs are allowed not just specific ones, also tried allowing GET, POST explicitely. Ensuring the application bool has "enable 32 bit applications" set to true. Ensuring the website runs with an account that has full permissions on the "rdbweb.exe".file and whole website (although we know it "read", "execute" should be enough). Ensuring the machine wide IIS setting for "ISAPI and CGI Restrictions" has the full path to "rdbweb.exe".allowed. Making sure we have the latest Windows Updates (for IIS6 we found knowledge base articles stating bugs that require hot fixes for IIS6, but nothing similar was found for IIS7). Changing the module from CGI to Fast CGI, not working also Now the only remaining possibility we have instigated is the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/145661 - Which is about: CGI Error: The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are: the article suggests the following solution: Modify the source code for the CGI application header output. The following is an example of a correct header: print "HTTP/1.0 200 OK\n"; print "Content-Type: text/html\n\n\n"; Unfortunately we do not have the source to try this out, and I'm not sure anyway whether this is the issue we're having. Can you help me with this problem? Is there a way to make the application work without requiring POST request? Note that on the old IIS6 server the application is working just fine, and I could not find any special IIS configuration that I may want to try its equivalent on IIS7.

  • AppCmd returns error: Object 'SET' is not supported

    I am trying to set SSL Host Headers and Secure Site Bindings in IIS7. I followed the directions on this website http://www.digicert.com/ssl-support/ssl-host-headers-iis-7.htm (among others), but when I run the appcmd command mentioned, I get the error "Object 'SET' is not supported. Run 'appcmd.exe /?' to display supported objects". I have also tryed "appcmd site set" but it still returns the same error. What am I doing wrong? The server I am working on is Windows 2008 R2 x64, if that matters. Thank you.

    The windows iis6 resource kit won't install on Windows 7 (Home Premium) so I copied it from another machine and selfssl.exe is giving me: Failed to generate the cryptographic key: 0x5 I tried the instructions here but am still getting the above error. I'm trying to set the common name of the certificate to a name other than the machine name so I can avoid the certificate errors in the browser. This is a test web application. I know I can just test with the browser errors, but I'd like to mimic real world conditions as much as possible. Is there any other way to generate your own ssl certificates for iis7.5?

    Trying to setup custom HTTP Response Headers on a new install of IIS7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and they are not working. Default headers work fine (X-Powered-By, etc...). Modifying default header values work (ie. change X-Powered-By to ASP.NET2). Modifying default header names cause header to stop being output (ie. Change X-Powered-By to X-Powered-By2). Site in question is a test site with a single html page. Custom headers also don't work on ASP.NET 2.0 site. I've tried setting the headers at the global level and at the site level to no effect.

  • Setup Exchange 2007 ActiveSync web application on a separate server

    Hello, I have Exchange 2007 installed on SBS 2008. I also run a web server on the network. I only have one static IP and all traffic trough port 443 is routed to the webserver. I would like to publish the ActiveSync application externally. If i temporarily route 443 traffic to the SBS then it is published (along with owa and everything else which i don't want). Is there a way to host the ActiveSync application on the web server (Server 2008 with IIS7) or to get it to route traffic meant for the ActiveSync application? I have tried creating a site on the webserver which uses the ActiveSync folder on the SBS but that does not seem to work. Thanks, Michael

    Im using Web Deploy with IIS7 and I want to grant permissions on a web site physical folder. Ive done this before (as I have another physical folder with r/w for WMSvc) but I have forgotten how I did it! When I go to the physical folder Security Tab Edit Add Object Name = WMSvc Check Names, I get 'An object named WMSvc cannot be found'?? I have the 'WMSvc' object listed fine in the 'Groups or usernames' on the other Folder I mentioned above. I feel a bit daft, what am I doing wrong, how can give folder permissions to WMSvc object on a physical folder?

For example, oursite.com - english oursite.de - german oursite.es - spanish This is a single-host environment. All of these sites are in the same application space on the same physical machine. I need to do cross-submission of sitemaps via robots.txt. Looking at the sitemap.org guidelines for this suggest this is possible, but the example indicates different physical machines.   • customErrors="RemoteOnly" not working properly in Server 2008

    It would appear that on my brand new Windows Server 2008 with IIS7, customErrors is not working. We have customErrors set to RemoteOnly in the web.config on our Asp.Net sites and applications. However, no matter what we do, it would appear that our sites act like it's set to On and we can't get any detailed messages showing up on our applications when remoted into our servers. I'm not entirely sure how to trace where this is being overrided, or if there is something in the way the server is configured that would make the server think the request is internal? How does this actually resolve correctly, anyway? Any help is appreciated... Our network admin has added domains to our hosts file to direct applications to the IP address.

    I am using IIS7 on Windows Server 2008r2. I have recently installed php and IIS. I am trying to browse to the index.php but it returns a blank page. It loads the favicon and the header of my page. When I load an info.php file it is not blank. If I disable Anonymus Authentication it the same index.php returns IIS 7.5 Detailed Error - 401.2 - Unauthorized. What is strange is I installed this exact code onto another fresh IIS install I just did and it loads fine. Permissions for the directory are the same for both.

  • What is Causing this IIS 7 Web Service Sporadic Connectivity Error?

    On sporadic occasions we receive the following error when attempting to call an .asmx web service from a .Net client application: "The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server. Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." By sporadic I mean that it might occur zero, once every few days, or a half-dozen times a day for some users. It will never occur for the first web service call of a user. And the subsequent (usually the same) call will always work immediately after the failure. The failures happen across a variety of methods in the service and usually happens between 15-20 seconds (according to the log) from the time of the request. Looking in the IIS site log for the particular call will show one or the other of the following windows error codes: 121: The semaphore timeout period has elapsed. 1236: The network connection was aborted by the local system. Some additional environment details: Running on internal network web farm consisting of two servers running IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 OS. These problems did not occur when running in an older IIS6 web farm of three servers running on Windows Server 2003 (and we use a single IIS6/2003 instance for our development and staging environments with no issues). EDIT: Also, all of these server instances are VMWare virtual machines, not sure if that is a surprise anymore or not. The web service is a .Net 2.0/3.5 compiled .asmx web service that has its own application pool (.Net 2.0, integrated pipeline). Only has Windows Authentication enabled. We have another web service on the farm that uses the same physical path as the primary service, the only difference being that Basic Authentication is enabled. This is used for a portion of our ERP system. Have tried using the same and different application pool - no effect on the error. This site isn't hit as often as the primary site and has never had an error. As mentioned, the error will only happen when called from the .Net client - not from other applications. The client application is always creating a new web service object for each request and setting the service credentials to System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials. The application is either deployed locally to a client or run in a Citrix server session. Those users running in Citrix doesn't seem to experience the issue, only locally deployed clients. The Citrix servers and the web farm are located in the same physical location and are located in the same IP range (10.67.xx.xx). Locally deployed clients experiencing the error are located elsewhere (10.105.xx.xx, 10.31.xx.xx). I've checked the OS logs to see if I can see any problems but nothing really sticks out. EDIT: Actually, I myself just ran into the error a little bit ago. I decided to check out the logs again and saw that there was a Security log entry of "Audit Failure" at the 'same' time (IIS log entry at 1:39:59, event log entry at 1:39:50). Not sure if this is a coincidence or not, I'll have to check out the logs of previous errors. I'm probably grasping for straws but the details: Log Name: Security Source: Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing Date: 7/8/2009 1:39:50 PM Event ID: 5159 Task Category: Filtering Platform Connection Level: Information Keywords: Audit Failure User: N/A Computer: is071019.<**.net Description: The Windows Filtering Platform has blocked a bind to a local port. Application Information: Process ID: 1260 Application Name: \device\harddiskvolume1\windows\system32\svchost.exe Network Information: Source Address: 0.0.0.0 Source Port: 54802 Protocol: 17 Filter Information: Filter Run-Time ID: 0 Layer Name: Resource Assignment Layer Run-Time ID: 36 I've also tried to use Failed Request Tracing in IIS7 but the service call never actually gets to where FRT can capture it (even though the failure is logged in the web service log). The network infrastructure group said they checked out the DNS and any NIC settings are correct so there is no 'flapping'. Everything pans out. I'm not sure that they checked out any domain controller servers though to see if that could be an issue. Any ideas? Or any other debugging strategies to get to the bottom of this? I'm just the developer in charge of the software and don't really have the knowledge on what to investigate from the networking side of things - although it does sound like a networking issue to me based on what is happening.     Hello I hope I am posting this in the correct place... I'm having an issue with a 301 redirect in php. Looking at the headers, if I do a simple 301 redirect, it actually appears as a 302 redirect which is not what I am after. This is the php code: header("Status: 301 Moved Permanently"); header('Location: newurl'); It is running on the latest version of php, IIS7 and uses the FastCGI module (which is apparently where this bug could exist).   • Do parent website application pools serve child application pools as well?

    I am running a .NET web application in its own application pool on IIS7. The parent website is set to run in its own application pool. Today we noticed a huge number of connections going to IIS. I tried to browse a plain ol' .html page in the directory of the web application and it hangs. I then try to browse another plain .html file in the root of the parent website, and it too hangs. In performance monitor, i see there are some 8k connections to the default website and climbing. I cant seem to understand if my application was the problem, or IIS itself. If it was my application, wouldnt the html page in the root of the parent website still be able to be served? edit: Also, if i shut down the app pool to my application, the html page on the root of the parent website is still not able to be displayed.

    Not sure the title is right. I have my site configured in IIS7 and I have another partner site which runs on a different port eg. http:// localhost:1234 /mysite. Can I have my parent site to have a virtual site http:// localhost /mysite to route requests to the partner site http://localhost:1234 /mysite. I should not redirect but I should basically proxy the requests. Any help here is appreciable. Thanks in advance.

  • Can't access an internal IIS web site via IP address, only hostname

    I have a machine on my home network running Windows Server 2008 (IIS7) with a web application running under default website called HTCOMNET. The network is just on a Windows Workgroup. The server is named nas1 and has a (dynamically assigned) IPv4 address of 192.168.2.12. I can ping 192.168.2.12. When I ping the machine by name ("nas1"), the hostname resolves to an IPv6 link-local address (as opposed to the ipv4 address). In a browser, I can go to http://nas1/HTCOMNET/ and IIS serves the site, no problem. But if I go to http://192.168.2.12/HTCOMNET, no dice. I have all the windows firewalls turned off. Any idea what's going on? I can't for the life of me figure out why I can't hit IIS via the IP. I feel like it's something really obvious, but i can't figure out what. Thanks!

  • How can I view my IIS hosted sites on other machines on my network

    Hello, at home i have a simple network setup conatining 2 machines and 1 belkin router. On one machine i have a site hosted with IIS7. Rather than the standard localhost/index.htm address i have added an entry in the HOSTS file pointing the local ip (127.0.0.1) to this domain - www.mysite.dev. i can access the site with www.mysite.dev with no problem. what i would like to do is be able to view this site from my other machine on the network. initially i assumed this could be done with a url like so MACHINE-NAME/www.mysite.dev, but the connection always times out. But I can ping MACHINE-NAME without problems. For testing purposes i have diabled the windows firewall on both machines but to no joy. Like a typical web developer, my techy/network skills are pretty poor. Can anyone see where im going wrong ?? thank you for your time Truegilly :)

    I'm using IIS 7 on my own dedicated server. Let's say I have two web applications. One points to folder A, and one points to folder B. The first is used for production and the second is for staging. If I want to set up a scenario whereby I upload my aplication to staging, make sure everybody's happy, then swap the folders that each web application points at, thereby putting "staging" live and making the production environment the new staging environment, what's a good way to do this? I know Microsoft themselves use this methodology on their Azure platform and I've seen it used elsewhere too. How can I do it on my server with IIS7?

  • Redirecting subsite on same domain to other IIS using HTTPS

    I've seen many similar questions (and answers) on this subject, but none seem to be on exactly the same situation I am facing. Which is weird since I don't think it is that special, so forgive me if I haven't searched enough. Anyway. I have two websites which are on two IIS7, one facing WAN and one in the LAN. The WAN facing is already HTTPS-only. I want to add the second website, but on the same HTTPS domain and SSL certificate, so that it becomes a subsite like: https://www.domain.com/subsite How can I do a redirect or rewrite on the first IIS to the second one to make this work? I don't think there is a standard IIS feature that can do this. ISA server is not an option currently. But maybe another extension to IIS exists? Done this numerous times on Apache, and am about to ditch IIS for Apache.

  • Why does a pdf file download result in varying bytes logged, all with sc-status 200

    I have a mojoportal CMS installation on an IIS7 server where users are reporting problems downloading a pdf file. It always downloads fine for me and most others, either displaying in browser or in Adobe Reader. Using logparser to query the IIS logs, all the responses are status 200 (OK) or 304 (Not modified), but the bytes sent vary quite a bit. Sometimes zero, some 211, some about half the full file size of 27059, and lots in between. Plenty show the full size of 27059. Do these other entries for smaller byte counts represent errors of some kind, correlating with the problems reported? Is this likely to be a browser/client issue or a server side problem? If there is any other info that would be helpful let me know. This is a shared hosting server though so I am somewhat limited in what I can dig into on the server.
