  • VS2008 loading designermode takes forever

    Is there anything that can be done about the Designer mode for a ascx file taking forever to show? I'm currently waiting for like 1 minute and still nothing happened. This is not the first time i see this problem, the ascx file doesn't even have any components to show yet... The web user control is like empty and still it won't load. What can be the problem here?

  • button of MDImenu can't disenable in VS2008

    Hi everyone. i had just started to learn VB and VS2008 and im doing some system due to my homework. i made a WELCOME form with a timer, 5s to pass to the next form which called Select. After passed to next form, itll me.visible = false. Theres 3 buttons on the Select form which call Customer, Staff and Exit. As i had just start, the button Customer will pass to a MDI menu call Customer Menu with a menu strip button called Quotation. Same, Select will me.visible = false when done. Then a problem occured, i made a Quotation inside the Customer Menu, such as the mdiparent of Quotation is Customer. I expected that the Quotation button will disenable to press after i pressed that button. But i fail to do that.   • Problem in VS2010 IDE in analog monitor in a dual-monitor setup

    I am using VS2010 Premium with a dual-window setup. One of the monitors is on a digital (DVI) cable and other one is on an analog (VGA) cable. I have noticed that when I put VS2010 in the analog monitor, there are garbled texts and refresh problems while coding and/or scrolling. This does not seem to be the case when I put VS2010 in the digital monitor. Note that, I am not expanding VS IDE to use 2 screens, just making it 1 full screen, either analog or digital. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I also work with VS2008 and have not seen this problem in either screen. VS IDE has started using WPF from the 2010 release, not sure if this has something to do with it.

  • Program ends abruptly even in debugger - how did that happen?

    I am trying to debug a program that unexpectedly shuts down. When I say "shuts down, I mean one moment I am seeing all the windows being displayed, each of which is showing all the right data,then suddenly all the windows disappear. The is no messagebox reporting anything wrong. So I tried running the program in the debugger hoping that it would somehow trap whatever was causing the program to abort, but even within the debugger the program simply ends abruptly. The last line in the debugger is: The program '[5500] test.exe: Native' has exited with code 0 (0x0). My program which is extremely large and extremely old has a lot of self diagnostics. My suspicion is that perhaps a self test has failed and maybe I just called "exit()", forgetting to pop up a dialog explaining why. My question now is, how can I find out from which point in the code, my program quit?

What my requirement was to disaplay only the <title> from xml information as nodes in tree view. But when i did the following coding its displaying all the values as nodes like "catalog" as rootnode, book as parent node for all then author,title,genre etc as nodes but i want only root node catalogue and title as nodes not even book.   • Internet zone is opened when broswer is opened from installer created by .Net 3.5sp1

    Hi All, I have project created in VS2005 and .Net 2.0. The installation is a web-based installation. After installing the proe-requisites the installer opens up the browser to continue with web-based install. On this, it opens up in intranet zone and works perfectly. I recently migrated the project to VS2008 Sp1 and .Net 3.5sp1. No change in my code and the test environment. Here the browser gets opened up in the Internet zone which prevents it from moving forward, until unless I open up a new browser manually and copy paste the url. The internet security options on the both the case are - Internet --- High. For the case2, if i have the security internet option to be 'Medium', it works well. I am not sure why this issue comes up when I change the VS and .Net version. More over the browser gets opened with system priveleges rather than administrator privileges.     I generally test my web apps with Firefox and use Firebug. I love Firebug. But when I'm testing JavaScript code in IE I use the debugger in Microsoft's Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. I would love to have an equivalent to Firebug's console.log methods which would allow me to log messages to Visual Web Developer. Any way to log messages to the error list/messages list/output pane using JavaScript?

I'm trying to convert my MFC application, a simple "PaintBrush" app that draws lines and rectangles (it's only a little test from another bigger application), to a ActiveX Control that a could embed into a Windows Forms Application (with Visual C#). I didn't found any tutorial for do this, and now, I'm not sure that this it's possible. I know how create an ActiveX Control recently created but not how convert an existing application.   • Expression Blend doesn't recognize command objects declared in code behind file

    I have a WPF UserControl. The code behind file declares some RoutedUICommand objects which are referenced in the XAML. The application builds and runs just fine. However Expression Blend 3 cannot load the XAML in the designer and gives errors like this one: The member "ResetCameraCommand" is not recognized or accessible. The class and the member are both public. Building and rebuilding the project in Blend and restarting Blend hasn't helped. Any ideas what the problem is?     Just tired to see this error every time for years only in ONE project: "Cannot evaluate expression because a thread is stopped at a point where garbage collection is impossible, possibly because the code is optimized" Almost every property or field displays this message. From vs2005+.net2.0 to vs2008+.net3.5 now. Does anybody know how to fix it?

  • Issue with Visual C++ 2010 (Express) External Tools command

    I posted this on SuperUser...but I was hoping the pros here at SO might have a good idea about how to fix this as well.... Normally we develop in VS 2005 Pro, but I wanted to give VS 2010 a spin. We have custom build tools based off of GNU make tools that are called when creating an executable. This is the error that I see whenever I call my external tool: ...\gnu\make.exe): * couldn't commit memory for cygwin heap, Win32 error 487 The caveat is that it still works perfectly fine in VS2005, as well as being called straight from the command line. Also, my external tool is setup exactly the same as in VS 2005. Is there some setting somewhere that could cause this error to be thrown?

    I want to use the built-in web server for VS 2008 and have it run my web-site project as the top level root "/". When the the web-site project node is selected, right click never gives me an option to select a property-grid like that shown under step 3. Nor could I find another way in the menu or tool bar to get the property-grid. I don't know if the UI difference I'm seeing has to do with me using VS 2008 and the instructions are for VS 2005 or what? How do I get the web-site property-grid for VS 2008, or is there an alternative way to get the root setup I want?
