  • Warning of "Control may reach end of non-void function"

    - by Cloud_cal
I ran a C++ program in Xcode, and encountered a warning of "Control may reach end of non-void function". Here is the code: Node* search(Node* head, int x) { if(!head) return NULL; else if(x == head->key) return head; else if(x < head->key) search(head->lchild, x); else search(head->rchild, x); } I got the same warning when compiling it in Linux, but got the correct result. But in Xcode, the result was wrong. By the way, I got the correct answer and no warning in Visual Studio.

  • Why are my Lucene Document results empty?

    - by vegashacker
I'm running a simple test--trying to index something and then search for it. I index a simple document, but then when a search for a string in it, I get back what looks to be an empty document (it has no fields). Lucene seems to be doing something, because if I search for a word that's not in the document, it returns 0 results. Any reason why Lucene would reliably return a document when it finds one that matches the given query, and yet that document has nothing in it? Thanks! PS: I'm actually running Lucandra (Lucene + Cassandra). That certainly may be a relevant detail, but not sure.

  • Same script, working on a site, not working on the other!

    - by Tioneb
Hello, First of all I apologize in advance for this question, a bit off the rang of stackoverflow, but I've spend a day trying to solve that issue and I'm totally stuck. The issue: The search function of my script (php) works perfectly fine on one host but not on the other. If you search something here : edu-cafe.com, you'll get a result, just as it should be. However, try a search on this site, hosted somewhere else : code-reduc.com, exact same script, files and datable, and it just hang. I've asked both the host and the original programmer of the script to look at the issue but they can't seem to find an answer... Obviously the cause of my troubles comes from the Host, but I can't find the issue Any bit of help would be hugely appreciated! PS: part of the script here: http://codepaste.net/fuymqn Thanks!

  • PHP cURL loading delay

    - by lasquarte
Hello. My problem is, I need to cURL-load a page that uses Ajax-based search, to get results of that search. And I need to organize a delay between curl_exec() and value returning. In other words, I need to execute curl_exec() for no less than 5 seconds. sleep() seems to stop curl execution and does not work. Will greatly appreciate any hint or clue UPD I don't know how, but on this page http://vkontakte.ru/gsearch.php?section=video&q=sample&name=1, but it requires an account to access curl DOES capture the search made by ajax. But if page tooks too long to load, Ajax returns "action was too fast" error. So I just need to prolong curl execution. Sorry if being unclear.

  • How to predict result set row count?

    - by Saurabh Kumar
I have an application where I create a big SQL query dynamically for SQL server 2008. This query is based on various search criteria which the user might give such as search by lastname, firstname, ssn etc. The requirement is that if the user gives a condition due to which the formed query might return a lot of rows(configurable for max N rows), then the application must send back a message instead to the user saying that he needs to refine his search query as the existing query will return too many rows. I would not want to bring back say, 5000 rows to the client and then discard that data just to show the user an error. What is an efficient way to tackle this issue?

  • Within headers, images with alt text vs. text

    - by Court
Do search engines treat the alt text of an image placed within an h1 tag the same way they would treat regular text placed in an h1 tag? I gave a search through here looking for an answer to this question, but was only able to find information on image replacement and the infamous h1 debate. For example would: <h1><img src="#" alt="Contact Us" /></h1> Act the same as: <h1>Contact Us</h1> In the electronic eye of a search engine? This seems considerably less "CSS Hacky" than other image replacement techniques like negative text indents, display:none, height:0, or ridiculous z-index integers.

  • aspx page with gridview runs very fast in IE but 20% of the speed on Firefox

    - by frank2009
Hi there I have a simple aspx page with some search options which queries an SQLEXpress database, and it is displayed in a gridview. For some reason, it runs lightning fast in IE but very slow in Firefox. It has very little code, a gridview a couple of images and a couple of textboxes and a search button. It was done with Expression Web so no additional code added. In production (not local) the speed is very noticiable when doing a search... IE displays the results almost instantly...Firefox might take 3-5 seconds. And everything else runs super fast as well in IE (update, delete etc). Is there a reason for this ? Thanks

  • The "is" in JUnit 4 assertions

    - by Space_C0wb0y
Is there any semantic difference between writing assertThat(object1, is(equalTo(object2))); and writing assertThat(object1, equalTo(object2))); ? If not, I would prefer the first version, because it reads better. Are there any other considerations here?

  • PL/SQL pre-compile and Code Quality checks in an automatted build environment?

    - by Lars Corneliussen
We build software using Hudson and Maven. We have C#, java and last, but not least PL/SQL sources (sprocs, packages, DDL, crud) For C# and Java we do unit tests and code analysis, but we don't really know the health of our PL/SQL sources before we actually publish them to the target database. Requirements There are a couple of things we wan't to test in the following priority: Are the sources valid, hence "compilable"? For packages, with respect to a certain database, would they compile? Code Quality: Do we have code flaws like duplicates, too complex methods or other violations to a defined set of rules? Also, the tool must run head-less (commandline, ant, ...) we wan't to do analysis on a partial code base (changed sources only) Tools We did a little research and found the following tools that could potencially help: Cast Application Intelligence Platform (AIP): Seems to be a server that grasps information about "anything". Couldn't find a console version that would export in readable format. Toad for Oracle: The Professional version is said to include something called Xpert validates a set of rules against a code base. Sonar + PL/SQL-Plugin: Uses Toad for Oracle to display code-health the sonar-way. This is for browsing the current state of the code base. Semantic Designs DMSToolkit: Quite general analysis of source code base. Commandline available? Semantic Designs Clones Detector: Detects clones. But also via command line? Fortify Source Code Analyzer: Seems to be focussed on security issues. But maybe it is extensible? more... So far, Toad for Oracle together with Sonar seems to be an elegant solution. But may be we are missing something here? Any ideas? Other products? Experiences? • natural language processing internships

    - by user552127
Hi All, Pls someone guide me in finding paid Grad internships in Natural Language Processing over the summer. I am really interested in NLP/ML and have taken up the excellent course offered at my school in Fall. I would be glad to work for passionate startups that do actual NLP tasks such as semantic extraction (and not just information retrieval) etc. I have worked with Java and teaching myself Python in all NLP tasks. Thanks, Sanjay

  • Why do we need to use out keyword while calling a method

    - by Midhat
When a method is defined with an out parameter, why do I have to specify the out keyword when calling it. Its already there in the method definition, and the runtime should know that any parameter passed will be an out parameter. It would make sense if the compiler will accept the argument with or without out keyword, with different semantic, but if you MUST add the keyword to make the code compile, whats the use? Shouldn't the compiler handle it automatically? Same for ref

  • technologies beside scaling web applications in a distributed nature

    - by wik
Hello, I am interested in theory to scale web applications in a distributed nature, i.e. when there is some platform/stack can be extended by others applications running on different servers, etc. I am researching this field and feels the lack of the right keywords :) Interesting concepts found so far: opensocial through API, like shopify does (shopify it's a hosted ecommerce solution) semantic web not quite sure about this one Am I on the right way or am I lost anything? :) Thanks.

  • Comprehensive HTML pages for CSS testing?

  • HTML: Menus as UL instead of DIVs?

    - by JamesBrownIsDead
I recently created a menu for a web page where buttons are DIV elements. I've been Googling around and see that many people create UL lists and each button is a LI element. What benefit is using an UL and LIs instead of just DIVs? Is it somehow better for SEO? Does this have to do with "semantic" markup? Any compelling reason to rewrite my menu as a UL?

Which are the possible cons I might face when Rendering? Using CSS, JS? The one I remember is: IE6 can't clone tags it doesn't know.

  • Disadvantage of unlifted type products?

    - by peaker
In Haskell, lifted type products mean that there's a semantic difference between (a,b,c) and (a, (b, c)). If all pattern matches of all products was always irrefutable, then there would be no difference, and (a, b, c) could be syntactic sugar for (a, (b, c)). Why did Haskell choose to lift type products?
