  • Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2011: Which Band Should Perform?

As you all know the SharePoint Conference last year in Las Vegas was a great show (here are links to broadcasts of several of our sessions). I followed the show with a ticket to see U2s 360 concert (unlike any other spectacle in rock-and-roll). Since then, Ive often been asked, Is there going to be another SPC in 2010?. The answer is: The next one is October 3-6, 2011 in Anaheim, California. The weather in Cali is truly unbeatable, and the conference is sure to be another smash with great content...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. Take a look: here.

  • Microsoft Unveils Xbox SmartGlass

SmartGlass won't be available to consumers until the fall, and if the reviews of the feature's capability are any indication, it's going to feel like a very long wait. SmartGlass lets you switch from watching something on your TV to watching it on your tablet or smartphone, and vice versa. But that's only the beginning. SmartGlass also lets developers turn smartphones and tablets into Xbox 360 controllers. Thus, if you're playing a sports-based game with your friends, you can enter your strategic plays into your smartphone, so he can't tell what your team is about to do. Or, with a baseball ga...

  • Is there a better way to handle data abstraction in this example?

    - by sigil
I'm building an application that retrieves Sharepoint list data via a web service SPlists.Lists. To create an instance of the web service, I have the following class: class SharepointServiceCreator { public SPlists.Lists createService() { listsService.Url = "http://wss/sites/SPLists/_vti_bin/lists.asmx"; listsService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; SPlists.Lists listsService=new SPlists.Lists(); } } I'm concerned that this isn't good OOP abstraction, though, because in order to create this service elsewhere in my application, I would need the following code: class someClass { public void someMethod() { SharepointServiceCreator s=new SharepointServiceCreator() SPlists.Lists listService=s.createService() } } Having to use declare the instance of listService in someMethod as type SPlists.Lists seems wrong, because it means that someClass needs to know about how SharepointServiceCreator is implemented. Or is this ok?

  • Development methodology for single web developer?

    - by CaseTA
I'm a web developer who mostly works with the LAMP stack when it comes to my own projects. Most of the time I just start coding on a project and fixing bugs and adding features as I go along. Often I'll try to use an existing solution such as Wordpress or Drupal. Now that I'm thinking of creating my own web application with businesses as the target group, I feel there's a need for proper analysis and design. Something lightweight for a one person project and still solid enough to handle requirements, user interfaces, security, etc. If you could recommend methodologies and literature I would be grateful.

  • How can i allow people in my local network to access the web service in my machine?

    - by user1451704
I have coded a web service using the Axis 2 framework and I can successfully invoke it using a test client (SoapUI) on the local machine after publishing the application in JBoss 5. I can post to the WS endpoint from the local machine and get the expected response. Now i want to allow other machines to access the web service. i changed the "localhost" to "my own fixed IP" adress at the end point location, and turned firewall off, but impossible to access the WS. Note : windows Xp SP3. Any idea ? Thanks in advance !!

  • How a web app identify if a click came from another web app via code?

    - by Diego
Hi, we have a web application that users can take online reports from ou ERP system data... And we have another web application that is used by our teachers and employees. We can't change the ERP web app because its a closed DLL, in this case we made some extended functionality in our custom internal web app and we are willing to put this functionality on the "menu" of the ERP web app. I need to integrate the two applications in the following way: When I click in the menu of the ERP web app, I want that our internal web app assert that the click have come from our ERP web app and not typed in the URL, this is possible?

  • What advantages are conferred by using server-side page rendering?

    - by user1303881
I am developing a web app and I have currently written the entire website in html/js/css and on the backend I have servlets that host some RESTFUL services. All the presentation logic is done through getting json objects and modifying the view through javascript. The application is essentially a search engine, but it will have user accounts with different roles. I've been researching some frameworks such as Play and Spring. I'm fairly new to web development, so I was wondering what advantages using server side page rendering would provide? Is it: Speed? Easier development and workflow? Access to existing libraries? More? All of the above?

  • error_expected_primary expression before in. In functions

    - by user2975402
    Here is my code. I try to fix it and I always obtain the same error: expected primary expression before 'int'. in line 47, 55, 63, 80, 86. And I've already tried this program in small pieces before and it works. It doesn't marked that error. ` #include using namespace std; int add (int a, int b) { int r; r=a+b; return (r); } int ssub (int a, int b) { int r; r=a-b; return (r); } int mult(int a, int b) { int r; r=a*b; return (r); } int menu(int a, int b){ int r; char x; cout <<"What do you want to do: \na.Adding \n s. Substract \n m. Multiply. \n. e. Exit"<<endl; cin>>x; switch (x){ case 'a': cout << "Give a value for a"<<endl; cin>>a; cout <<"Give a value for b"<<endl; cin>>b; add (int a, int b); //aquí y en otras líneas me sale: expected primary expression before int. break; case 's': cout << "Give a value for a"<<endl; cin>>a; cout <<"Give a value for b"<<endl; cin>>b; ssub (int a, int b); break; case 'm': cout << "Give a value for a"<<endl; cin>>a; cout <<"Give a value for b"<<endl; cin>>b; mult (int a, int b); break; case 'e': x='e'; break; default: cout<<"Wrong choice. Run the program again and choose another letter"<<endl; break; } return r; } cout<<"The result is " << menu (int a, int b)<<endl; int main() { menu (int a, int b); return 0; } `

  • Options for 2D Web/iPhone/Android, with Test Framework

    - by ashes999
I would like to make a 2D game with one codebase that runs on iPhone, Android, and web (any flavour of web -- HTML5, Flash, Silverlight, etc.) What are my options? I should be able to write my code once, and run it anywhere. I also absolutely need the ability to write unit tests (or write a unit-testing framework) -- I cannot make sizable games without testing. Unity is good, but unity is 3d; even with hacks, the graphical assets will still be 3d. I'm after 2d, not 3d. (If you need a Mac or separate licensing for the Mac part, that's okay.)

  • Can you pull the connectionString for a log4net AdoNetAppender from elsewhere in a web.config file?

    - by mrsharps
Hey all. This is my first StackOverflow question. I'm already have a db connection string in my web.config file. I scanned the log4net docs, but can't seem to find a way to use it within the log4net section of my web.config file. Is is possible to do something like this? <connectionStrings> <add name="connStr" connectionString="Data Source=localhost; ..." /> </connectionStrings> <log4net> <appender name="AdoNetAppender" type="log4net.Appender.AdoNetAppender"> <connectionString connectionStringName="connStr"/> ... </log4net> Thanks!
