• Is it possible to access a Silverlight control via the COM automation model?

- by dlanod
What I'm trying to attempt is to access methods on a Silverlight control via the COM automation model. Theoretically it should be possible, as exposing the Silverlight control's methods as scriptable members exposes them through an IDispatch interface. I have been able to access the IDispatch interface through the automation model correctly but when I attempt to call a method on the exposed interface via Invoke it crashes. I was wondering if anyone knew whether this was expected behaviour, i.e. I'm violating some basic sandboxing requirement, or whether this should work and it is just something in my implementation that needs correcting? Cheers.

• How to find specific/local files via CMake

- by Andreas Romeyke
Hello, I have a problem with a locally installed library. In my project there is the xmlrpc++0.7-library: myproject/ +-- xmlrpc++0.7/ +-- src/ I want that CMake fallbacks using the local xmlrpc++0.7 directory if not found otherwise. Two problems, the first one, find_path() or find_library() does not work with local dir. I used a workaround testing if variables processed by find_xxx() are empty or not. If empty I set them manually. The cmake generates the Makefile without errors now. But if I want to compile the project via make, the c++ compiler returns "error: XmlRpc.h: file not found". The file XmlRpc.h lies in myproject/xmlrpc++0.7/src and if I compile all them manually it works fine. Here is my CMakeLists.txt. I am very happy if anyone could me point to the right solution to use cmake under conditions described above. --- CMakeLists.txt --- project(webservice_tesseract) cmake_minimum_required(VERSION 2.6) set(CMAKE_INCLUDE_CURRENT_DIR ON) # find tesseract find_path(TESSERACT_INCLUDE_DIR tesseract/tesseractmain.h /opt/local/include /usr/local/include /usr/include ) find_library(TESSERACT_LIBRARY_DIR NAMES tesseract_main PATHS /opt/local/lib/ /usr/local/lib/ /usr/lib ) message(STATUS "looked for tesseract library.") message(STATUS "Include file detected: [${TESSERACT_INCLUDE_DIR}].") message(STATUS "Lib file detected: [${TESSERACT_LIBRARY_DIR}].") add_library(tesseract STATIC IMPORTED) set_property(TARGET tesseract PROPERTY IMPORTED_LOCATION ${TESSERACT_LIBRARY_DIR}/libtesseractmain.a ) #find xmlrpc++ message(STATUS "cmake home dir: [${CMAKE_HOME_DIRECTORY}].") set(LOCAL_XMLRPCPLUSPLUS ${CMAKE_HOME_DIRECTORY}/xmlrpc0.7++/) message(STATUS "xmlrpc++ local dir: [${LOCAL_XMLRPCPLUSPLUS}].") find_path(XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_INCLUDE_DIR XmlRpcServer.h ${LOCAL_XMLRPCPLUSPLUS}src /opt/local/include /usr/local/include /usr/include ) find_library(XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR NAMES XmlRpc PATHS ${LOCAL_XMLRPCPLUSPLUS} /opt/local/lib/ /usr/local/lib/ /usr/lib/ ) # next lines are an ugly workaround because cmake find_xxx() does not find local stuff if (XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_INCLUDE_DIR) else (XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_INCLUDE_DIR) set(XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_INCLUDE_DIR ${LOCAL_XMLRPCPLUSPLUS}src) endif (XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_INCLUDE_DIR) if (XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR) else (XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR) set(XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR ${LOCAL_XMLRPCPLUSPLUS}) endif (XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR) message(STATUS "looked for xmlrpc++ library.") message(STATUS "Include file detected: [${XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_INCLUDE_DIR}].") message(STATUS "Lib file detected: [${XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR}].") add_library(xmlrpc STATIC IMPORTED) set_property(TARGET xmlrpc PROPERTY IMPORTED_LOCATION ${XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR}/libXmlRpc.a ) #### link together include_directories(${XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_INCLUDE_DIR} ${TESSERACT_INCLUDE_DIR}) link_directories(${XMLRPCPLUSPLUS_LIBRARY_DIR} ${TESSERACT_LIBRARY_DIR}) add_library(simpleocr STATIC simple_ocr.cpp) add_executable(webservice_tesseract webservice.cpp) target_link_libraries(webservice_tesseract xmlrpc tesseract simpleocr)

• LINQ Datacontext Disposal Issues

- by Refracted Paladin
I am getting a Cannot access object: DataContext after it's been disposed in the below DAL method. I thought that I would be okay calling dispose there. result is an IEnumurable and I thought it was IQueryable that caused these kinds of problems. What am I doing wrong? How SHOULD I be disposing of my DataContext. Is there something better to be returning then a DataTable? This is a Desktop app that points at SQL 2005. Example method that causes this error -- public static DataTable GetEnrolledMembers(Guid workerID) { var DB = CmoDataContext.Create(); var AllEnrollees = from enrollment in DB.tblCMOEnrollments where enrollment.CMOSocialWorkerID == workerID || enrollment.CMONurseID == workerID join supportWorker in DB.tblSupportWorkers on enrollment.EconomicSupportWorkerID equals supportWorker.SupportWorkerID into workerGroup from worker in workerGroup.DefaultIfEmpty() select new { enrollment.ClientID, enrollment.CMONurseID, enrollment.CMOSocialWorkerID, enrollment.EnrollmentDate, enrollment.DisenrollmentDate, ESFirstName = worker.FirstName, ESLastName = worker.LastName, ESPhone = worker.Phone }; var result = from enrollee in AllEnrollees.AsEnumerable() where (enrollee.DisenrollmentDate == null || enrollee.DisenrollmentDate > DateTime.Now) //let memberName = BLLConnect.MemberName(enrollee.ClientID) let lastName = BLLConnect.MemberLastName(enrollee.ClientID) let firstName = BLLConnect.MemberFirstName(enrollee.ClientID) orderby enrollee.DisenrollmentDate ascending, lastName ascending select new { enrollee.ClientID, //MemberName = memberName, LastName = lastName, FirstName = firstName, NurseName = BLLAspnetdb.NurseName(enrollee.CMONurseID), SocialWorkerName = BLLAspnetdb.SocialWorkerName(enrollee.CMOSocialWorkerID), enrollee.EnrollmentDate, enrollee.DisenrollmentDate, ESWorkerName = enrollee.ESFirstName + " " + enrollee.ESLastName, enrollee.ESPhone }; DB.Dispose(); return result.CopyLinqToDataTable(); } partial class where I create the DataContext -- partial class CmoDataContext { public static bool IsDisconnectedUser { get { return Settings.Default.IsDisconnectedUser; } } public static CmoDataContext Create() { var cs = IsDisconnectedUser ? Settings.Default.CMOConnectionString : Settings.Default.Central_CMOConnectionString; return new CmoDataContext(cs); }

• How implement the Open Session in View pattern in NHibernate?

- by MCardinale
I'm using ASP.NET MVC + NHibernate + Fluent NHibernate and having a problem with lazy loading. Through this question (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2519964/how-to-fix-a-nhibernate-lazy-loading-error-no-session-or-session-was-closed), I've discovered that I have to implement the Open Session in View pattern , but I don't know how. In my repositories classes, I use methods like this public ImageGallery GetById(int id) { using(ISession session = NHibernateSessionFactory.OpenSession()) { return session.Get<ImageGallery>(id); } } public void Add(ImageGallery imageGallery) { using(ISession session = NHibernateSessionFactory.OpenSession()) { using(ITransaction transaction = session.BeginTransaction()) { session.Save(imageGallery); transaction.Commit(); } } } And this is my Session Factory helper class: public class NHibernateSessionFactory { private static ISessionFactory _sessionFactory; private static ISessionFactory SessionFactory { get { if(_sessionFactory == null) { _sessionFactory = Fluently.Configure() .Database(MySQLConfiguration.Standard.ConnectionString(MyConnString)) .Mappings(m => m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<ImageGalleryMap>()) .ExposeConfiguration(c => c.Properties.Add("hbm2ddl.keywords", "none")) .BuildSessionFactory(); } return _sessionFactory; } } public static ISession OpenSession() { return SessionFactory.OpenSession(); } } Someone could help me to implements Open Session in View pattern? Thank you.

• SyntaxHighlighter and Line Break Tags

- by azamsharp
I am using the following syntax highligher: http://alexgorbatchev.com/wiki/SyntaxHighlighter For some reason when it encounter
it simply prints out
tags. I cannot replace the whole thing with System.Environment.NewLine since it will mess up the complete description. Here is my code: public static string GetDescription(string description) { string codeStartPattern = "<code>"; string codeEndPattern = "</code>"; Regex reg = new Regex(codeStartPattern); description = reg.Replace(description, ReplaceWithStartDiv); reg = new Regex(codeEndPattern); description = reg.Replace(description, ReplaceWithEndDiv); return description; } private static string ReplaceWithStartDiv(Match m) { return ""; } I guess I only need to replace
with System.Environment.Newline with the code that is between the
snippet here
Thanks!

• How to invalidate cache when benchmarking?

- by Michael Buen
I have this code, that when swapping the order of UsingAs and UsingCast, their performance also swaps. using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Linq; using System.IO; class Test { const int Size = 30000000; static void Main() { object[] values = new MemoryStream[Size]; UsingAs(values); UsingCast(values); Console.ReadLine(); } static void UsingCast(object[] values) { Stopwatch sw = Stopwatch.StartNew(); int sum = 0; foreach (object o in values) { if (o is MemoryStream) { var m = (MemoryStream)o; sum += (int)m.Length; } } sw.Stop(); Console.WriteLine("Cast: {0} : {1}", sum, (long)sw.ElapsedMilliseconds); } static void UsingAs(object[] values) { Stopwatch sw = Stopwatch.StartNew(); int sum = 0; foreach (object o in values) { if (o is MemoryStream) { var m = o as MemoryStream; sum += (int)m.Length; } } sw.Stop(); Console.WriteLine("As: {0} : {1}", sum, (long)sw.ElapsedMilliseconds); } } Outputs: As: 0 : 322 Cast: 0 : 281 When doing this... UsingCast(values); UsingAs(values); ...Results to this: Cast: 0 : 322 As: 0 : 281 When doing just this... UsingAs(values); ...Results to this: As: 0 : 322 When doing just this: UsingCast(values); ...Results to this: Cast: 0 : 322 Aside from running them independently, how to invalidate the cache so the second code being benchmarked won't receive the cached memory of first code? Benchmarking aside, just loved the fact that modern processors do this caching magic :-)

• OpenLayers: Raise event when map is zoomed or moved by user

- by David Pfeffer
I'm using OpenLayers to display OpenStreetMap maps. (Though, I'd assume this should be general enough to work for any map product...) I'm displaying some very sophisticated vector overlays, and the amount and resolution of the features I'm returning from the server via GeoJSON to overlay has proven too much for many computers. What I'd like to do now instead is to only send data befitting the resolution of the current zoom, and fitting the current view port. This should be relatively easy to do using the GetResolution and CalculateBounds methods on the Map object. However, I don't know when to call these methods because I can't find a way to register a function to be called when the user pans the map (changing the view port) or zooms the map (changing the resolution and view port). How can I get a callback when the user pans or zooms the map?

• Adivce on Method overloads.

- by Muhammad Kashif Nadeem
Please see following methods. public static ProductsCollection GetDummyData(int? customerId, int? supplierId) { try { if (customerId != null && customerId > 0) { Filter.Add(Customres.CustomerId == customerId); } if (supplierId != null && supplierId > 0) { Filter.Add(Suppliers.SupplierId == supplierId); } ProductsCollection products = new ProductsCollection(); products.FetchData(Filter); return products; } catch { throw; } } public static ProductsCollection GetDummyData(int? customerId) { return ProductsCollection GetDummyData(customerId, (int?)null); } public static ProductsCollection GetDummyData() { return ProductsCollection GetDummyData((int?)null); } 1- Please advice how can I make overloads for both CustomerId and SupplierId because only one overload can be created with GetDummyData(int? ). Should I add another argument to mention that first argument is CustomerId or SupplierId for example GetDummyData(int?, string). OR should I use enum as 2nd argument and mention that first argument is CustoemId or SupplierId. 2- Is this condition is correct or just checking 0 is sufficient - if (customerId != null && customerId 0) 3- Using Try/catch like this is correct? 4- Passing (int?)null is correct or any other better approach. Edit: I have found some other posts like this and because I have no knowledge of Generics that is why I am facing this problem. Am I right? Following is the post. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/422625/overloaded-method-calling-overloaded-method

• How to declare and implement a COM interface on C# that inherits from another COM interface?

- by Carlos Loth
I'm trying to understand what is the correct why to implement COM interfaces from C# code. It is straightforward when the interface doesn't inherit from other base interface. Like this one: [ComImport, Guid("2047E320-F2A9-11CE-AE65-08002B2E1262"), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)] public interface IShellFolderViewCB { long MessageSFVCB(uint uMsg, int wParam, int lParam); } However things start to become weired when I need to implement an interface that inherits from other COM interfaces. For example, if I implement the IPersistFolder2 interface which inherits from IPersistFolder which inherits from IPersist as I usually on C# code: [ComImport, Guid("0000010c-0000-0000-C000-000000000046"), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)] public interface IPersist { void GetClassID([Out] out Guid classID); } [ComImport, Guid("000214EA-0000-0000-C000-000000000046"), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)] public interface IPersistFolder : IPersist { void Initialize([In] IntPtr pidl); } [ComImport, Guid("1AC3D9F0-175C-11d1-95BE-00609797EA4F"), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)] public interface IPersistFolder2 : IPersistFolder { void GetCurFolder([Out] out IntPtr ppidl); } The operating system is not able to call the methods on my object implementation. When I'm debugging I can see the constructor of my IPersistFolder2 implementation is called many times, however the interface methods I've implemented aren't called. I'm implementing the IPersistFolder2 as follows: [Guid("A4603CDB-EC86-4E40-80FE-25D5F5FA467D")] public class PersistFolder: IPersistFolder2 { void IPersistFolder2.GetClassID(ref Guid classID) { ... } void IPersistFolder2.Initialize(IntPtr pidl) { ... } void IPersistFolder2.GetCurFolder(out IntPtr ppidl) { ... } } What seems strange is when I declare the COM interface imports as follow, it works: [ComImport, Guid("0000010c-0000-0000-C000-000000000046"), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)] internal interface IPersist { void GetClassID([Out] out Guid classID); } [ComImport, Guid("000214EA-0000-0000-C000-000000000046"), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)] internal interface IPersistFolder : IPersist { new void GetClassID([Out] out Guid classID); void Initialize([In] IntPtr pidl); } [ComImport, Guid("1AC3D9F0-175C-11d1-95BE-00609797EA4F"), InterfaceType(ComInterfaceType.InterfaceIsIUnknown)] internal interface IPersistFolder2 : IPersistFolder { new void GetClassID([Out] out Guid classID); new void Initialize([In] IntPtr pidl); void GetCurFolder([Out] out IntPtr ppidl); } I don't know why it works when I declare the COM interfaces that way (hidding the base interface methods using new). Maybe it is related to the way IUnknown works. Does anyone know what is the correct way of implementing COM interfaces in C# that inherits from other COM interfaces and why?

• Undocumented Mac Calls

- by Brian Postow
I'm working on a couple of mac products, and in order to do what I need to do, I'm using some calls to undocumented methods on Mac Classes. Like IKImageView's doRotate:(id) and PDFDocument's (NSPrintOperation *)getPrintOperationForPrintInfo:(NSPrintInfo *)printInfo autoRotate:(BOOL)doRotate; How common is it for Objective C programmers to use methods like this? How do you find out about them (other than Google)? How dangerous is it to use them? Is there a danger other than that Apple will make them no-longer available in some future rev, and so your program will break?

• Ways to save enums in database

- by corgrath
Hey guys. I am wondering what the best ways to save enums into a database is. I know there are name() and valueOf() methods to make it into a String back. But are there any other (flexible) options to store these values? Is there a smart way to make them into unique numbers (ordinal() is not safe to use)? Any comments and suggestions would be helpful :) Update: Thanks for all awesome and fast answers! It was as I suspected. However a note to 'toolkit'; That is one way. The problem is that I would have to add the same methods with each enum type i create. Thats a lot of duplicated code and, at the moment, Java does not support any solutions to this (You cannot let enum extend other classes). However, thanks for all answers!

• asp.net MVC - how to get complete local and global resources

- by Buthrakaur
I'm localizing application and need to provide JSON representation of local and global resources for JS part of application for all views. My current idea is I'd implement HtmlHelper extension methods like GetLocalResourcesJSON/GetGlobalResourcesJSON which should encode all resource keys+values and return them JSON encoded as string (I'd implement caching as well). At the moment I'm able to retrieve single specific key from global or local resource belonging to current view (using httpContext.GetGlobalResourceObject/GetLocalResourceObject), but I'm not able to find out how to retrieve whole resource object and iterate all its keys+values. Is there any method how to achieve this? it looks like ResourceProviderFactory could be the the key to this problem, but it's not accessible publicly anywhere. I could instantiate ResourceExpressionBuilder and use reflection to retrieve the provider using GetLocal/GlobalResourceProvider() methods, but I don't like using reflection here at all...

• How to reliably replace a library-defined error handler with my own?

- by sharptooth
On certain error cases ATL invokes AtlThrow() which is implemented as ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which in turn throws CAtlException. The latter is not very good - CAtlException is not even derived from std::exception and also we use our own exceptions hierarchy and now we will have to catch CAtlException separately here and there which is lots of extra code and error-prone. Looks like it is possible to replace ATL::AtlThrowImpl() with my own handler - define _ATL_CUSTOM_THROW and define AtlThrow() to be the custom handler before including atlbase.h - and ATL will call the custom handler. Not so easy. Some of ATL code is not in sources - it comes compiled as a library - either static or dynamic. We use the static - atls.lib. And... it is compiled in such way that it has ATL::ThrowImpl() inside and some code calling it. I used a static analysis tool - it clearly shows that there're paths on which the old default handler is called. To ensure I even tried to "reimplement" ATL::AtlThrowImpl() in my code. Now the linker says it sees two declarations of ATL::AtlThrowImpl() which I suppose confirms that there's another implementation that can be called by some code. How can I handle this? How do I replace the default handler completely and ensure that the default handler is never called?

• Creating get/set method dynamically in javascript

- by portoalet
I am trying to create a UserDon object, and trying to generate the get and set methods programmatically ( based on Pro Javascript book by John Resig page 37 ), and am testing this on Firefox 3.5 The problem is: in function UserDon, "this" refers to the window object instead of the UserDon object. So after calling var userdon = new UserDon(...) I got setname and getname methods created on the window object (also setage and getage). How can I fix this? function UserDon( properties ) { for( var i in properties ) { (function(){ this[ "get" + i ] = function() { return properties[i]; }; this[ "set" + i ] = function(val) { properties[i] = val; }; })(); } } var userdon = new UserDon( { name: "Bob", age: 44 });

• Learning OOP Design

- by waiwai933
I've read Head First Java, and I understand how OOP works. Here's my problem: I'm a PHP programmer, and while I've used OOP in PHP, I'm having trouble figuring out what should be an object and what methods to give it. For example, let's say I have a app that allows people to log in and edit a document. Why should the document be an object if there will ever only be one instance? Should I give the deleteDocument() method to the document object or the admin object? The document is the one being deleted, but the admin is the one performing the action. So my real question is, coming from a procedural background, how do I figure out what should be objects and what should have what methods?

• Generate a Version.java file in Maven

- by Ralph
I have a Java project that I build using an Ant script. I am trying to convert the project to Maven. One of the tasks generates a Java source file called Version.java that contains a static String representation of the compilation timestamp, as follows: package com.foo.bar; public final class Version { public static String VERSION="100301.1046"; } The Ant task is very simple: <target name="version" depends="init" description="Create Version.java"> <echo file="src/${package.dir}/Version.java" message="package ${package.name};${line.separator}" /> <echo file="src/${package.dir}/Version.java" append="true" message="public final class Version {${line.separator}" /> <echo file="src/${package.dir}/Version.java" append="true" message=" public static String VERSION="${buildtime}";${line.separator}" /> <echo file="src/${package.dir}/Version.java" append="true" message="}${line.separator}" /> <echo message="BUILD ${buildtime}" /> </target> Is it possible to do something similar in Maven, using generate-sources, or some other simple method?

• Swing - how to mix JTextField and JTextAreas and have same visual appearance?

- by I82Much
I am using miglayout to create a form in which there are JTextFields (short input answers) as well as JTextAreas (Longer answers). The problem is twofold. The border placed around a Scrollpane wrapped text area does not match that of a Text Field. The width and placement of the textarea/textfield differ, causing them not to line up correctly. Source code: package test2; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.JScrollPane; import javax.swing.JTextArea; import javax.swing.JTextField; import net.miginfocom.swing.MigLayout; public class Test extends JPanel { private static final int NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH = 20; private static final int NUM_ROWS = 5; public Test() { setLayout(new MigLayout( "wrap 2", // Align text labels on the so their right edge meets left edge of the text fields "[right][left]" )); add(new JLabel("Text field:")); add(new JTextField(NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH)); add(new JLabel("No scrollpane text area:")); add(new JTextArea(NUM_ROWS, NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH)); add(new JLabel("Scrollpane text area:")); add(new JScrollPane(new JTextArea(NUM_ROWS, NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH))); add(new JLabel("Text field:")); add(new JTextField(NUM_CHARACTERS_WIDTH)); } public static void main(String[] args) { JFrame frame = new JFrame(""); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); JPanel panel = new Test(); frame.add(panel); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); } } What's the preferred way to mix and match jtextfield and jtextareas, while still maintaining visual harmony? I notice now that the text field has a blue highlight around it when focus is in it, as opposed to the text area... another source of visual discontinuity.

• slsvcutil.exe Proxy and Interfaces

- by JPM
Is it possible when using slsvcutil.exe to generate a proxy through the command line not to have the proxy file output the Interface in an Asynchronous fashion. For example, if I have a function "foo()" on the serverside in the Interface, when I generate the proxy using Slsvcutil.exe, it makes two functions in the interface definition in the proxy named "BeginFoo()" and "EndFoo()". All I want is "Foo()", I don't need the other two methods. Is this possible? I'm using the proxy with Monotouch which is why I need to use Slsvcutil.exe but don't need the Asynchronous methods. • Threads in WCF service

What I found very disturbing is when I added Thread.Sleep(20000) WCF creates one service instance per second using different thread from pool. When I remove Thread.Sleep(20000) 50 instances are instanciated straight away, and about 2-4 threads are used to do it - which in fact I consider normal. Could somebody explain why when Thread.Sleep causes those funny delays in creating instances?

• Subclassing Satchmo's Category model, but then getting the error "'Manager' object has no attribute 'root_categories'"

- by hellsgate
I'm using Satchmo as part of a website I'm currently building. At the moment I'm trying add more functions to the Satchmo Category class, but obviously I'm not going to make any changes to the Satchmo files. So, I thought that subclassing the Category class would give me a new class which contains all the Satchmo Category properties and methods while allowing me to add my own. However, either Python subclassing doesn't work like that, or I am doing it wrong. Here is the code I'm using to subclass Category: from product.models import Category class MyCategory(Category): """ additional functions to pull data from the Satchmo store app """ One of the methods I can normally use from the Category class is: Category.objects.root_categories() however, when I try to access MyCategory.objects.root_categories() I get the following error: AttributeError: 'Manager' object has no attribute 'root_categories' Can anyone point me in the right direction for solving this?

First, here is the class Person: @Entity public class Person { private int id; private String name; @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = GenerationType.TABLE, generator = "person") @TableGenerator(name = "person", table = "sequences", allocationSize = 1) public int getId() { return id; } public void setId(int id) { this.id = id; } public String getName() { return name; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } } Then I wrote a small App class that insert 2000 entities with a loop: public class App { private static AnnotationConfiguration config; public static void insertPerson() { SessionFactory factory = config.buildSessionFactory(); Session session = factory.getCurrentSession(); session.beginTransaction(); Person aPerson = new Person(); aPerson.setName("John"); session.save(aPerson); session.getTransaction().commit(); } public static void main(String[] args) { config = new AnnotationConfiguration(); config.addAnnotatedClass(Person.class); config.configure("hibernate.cfg.xml"); //is the default already new SchemaExport(config).create(true, true); //print and execute for (int i = 0; i < 2000; i++) { insertPerson(); } } } What I get after a while is: Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.exception.JDBCConnectionException: Cannot open connection Caused by: com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Too many connections Now I know that probably if I put the transaction outside the loop it would work, but mine was a test to see what happens when executing multiple transactions. And since there is only one open at each time, it should work. I tried to add session.close() after the commit, but I got Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.SessionException: Session was already closed So how to solve the problem?

• Visual Studio: Design a UserControl class that derives from an abstract base class

- by Marcel
Hi All, I want to have an abstract base class for some of my custom UserControl's. The reason is obvious: they share some common properties and methods (a basic implementation of some elements of an interface actually), and I want to implement them only once. I have done this by defining my abstract base class: public abstract class ViewBase : UserControl, ISomeInterface Then I went to implement one of my views, as usual, with the designer: public partial class SpecialView : UserControl //all OK Up to here all is fine. Now I replace the derivation of my SpecialView class with the abstract base class: public partial class SpecialView : ViewBase //disrupts the designer Now, the designer in Visual Studio 2008 won't work anymore, stating: The designer must create an instance of type 'ViewBase' but it cannot because the type is declared as abstract. How can I circumvent this? I just do not want to have the same code copied for all those views. Info: there is a question question with virtual methods, instead of abstract classes, but there is no suitable solution for me.

• Limited IList<> implementation ?

- by Wam
Hello people, I'm doing some work with stats, and want to refactor the following method : public static blah(float[] array) { //Do something over array, sum it for example. } However, instead of using float[] I'd like to be using some kind of indexed enumerable (to use dynamic loading from disk for very large arrays for example). I had created a simple interface, and wanted to use it. public interface IArray<T> : IEnumerable<T> { T this[int j] { get; set; } int Length { get; } } My problem is : float[] only inherits IList, not IArray, and AFAIK there's no way to change that. I'd like to ditch IArray and only use IList, but my classes would need to implement many methods like Add, RemoveAt although they are fixed size And then my question : how can float[] implement IList whereas it doesn't have these methods ? Any help is welcome. Cheers

• ASP.NET access files on another computer shared folder

- by Tomas
Hello, I have ASP.NET project which do some file access and manipulation, the methods which I use for file access are below. Now I need to access files on another server shared folder, how to do that? I easily can change file path to shared folder path but I get "can't access" error because shares are password protected. As I understand I need somehow to send credentials to remote server before executing methods below. How to do that? FileStream("c:\MyProj\file.doc", FileMode.OpenOrCreate, FileAccess.Write) Context.Response.TransmitFile("c:\MyProj\file.doc"); Regards, Tomas
