• Time complexity of a powerset generating function

So Big-O would be O((2^n)*n) (since we drop the constant 2)... is that correct? And n*(2^n) is worse than n^2. if n = 4 then (4*(2^4)) = 64 (4^2) = 16 if n = 100 then (10*(2^10)) = 10240 (10^2) = 100 2. Is there a faster way to generate a power set, or is this about optimal?

• Adding SQL Cache Dependencies to the Loosely coupled .NET Cache Provider

  This post adds SQL Cache Dependency support to the loosely coupled .NET Cache Provider that I described in the previous post (http://geekswithblogs.net/Rhames/archive/2012/09/11/loosely-coupled-.net-cache-provider-using-dependency-injection.aspx). The sample code is available on github at https://github.com/RobinHames/CacheProvider.git. Each time we want to apply a cache dependency to a call to fetch or cache a data item we need to supply an instance of the relevant dependency implementation. This suggests an Abstract Factory will be useful to create cache dependencies as needed. We can then use Dependency Injection to inject the factory into the relevant consumer. Castle Windsor provides a typed factory facility that will be utilised to implement the cache dependency abstract factory (see http://docs.castleproject.org/Windsor.Typed-Factory-Facility-interface-based-factories.ashx). Cache Dependency Interfaces First I created a set of cache dependency interfaces in the domain layer, which can be used to pass a cache dependency into the cache provider. ICacheDependency The ICacheDependency interface is simply an empty interface that is used as a parent for the specific cache dependency interfaces. This will allow us to place a generic constraint on the Cache Dependency Factory, and will give us a type that can be passed into the relevant Cache Provider methods. namespace CacheDiSample.Domain.CacheInterfaces { public interface ICacheDependency { } }   ISqlCacheDependency.cs The ISqlCacheDependency interface provides specific SQL caching details, such as a Sql Command or a database connection and table. Modifying ICacheProvider to accept Cache Dependencies Next I modified the exisitng ICacheProvider<T> interface so that cache dependencies may be passed into a Fetch method call. I did this by adding two overloads to the existing Fetch methods, which take an IEnumerable<ICacheDependency> parameter (the IEnumerable allows more than one cache dependency to be included). I also added a method to create cache dependencies. This means that the implementation of the Cache Provider will require a dependency on the Cache Dependency Factory. It is pretty much down to personal choice as to whether this approach is taken, or whether the Cache Dependency Factory is injected directly into the repository or other consumer of Cache Provider. I think, because the cache dependency cannot be used without the Cache Provider, placing the dependency on the factory into the Cache Provider implementation is cleaner. Unfortunately this class is sealed, so I cannot simply inherit from this. Instead, I created an interface called IAspNetCacheDependency that will provide a Create method to create an instance of the relevant System.Web.Caching Cache Dependency type. This interface is specific to the ASP.NET implementation of the Cache Provider, so it should be defined in the same layer as the concrete implementation of the Cache Provider (the MVC UI layer in the sample code). Notice that I have not implemented the ICacheDependencyFactory interface. Castle Windsor will do this for me by using the Type Factory Facility. From the Visual Studio Command Prompt, the following commands should be used to enable the Cache Polling of the relevant database tables: aspnet_regsql -S <servername> -E -d <databasename> –ed aspnet_regsql -S <servername> -E -d CacheSample –et –t <tablename>   (The –t option should be repeated for each table that is to be made available for cache dependencies). Finally the SQL Cache Polling needs to be enabled by adding the following configuration to the <system.web> section of web.config: <caching> <sqlCacheDependency pollTime="10000" enabled="true"> <databases> <add name="BloggingContext" connectionStringName="BloggingContext"/> </databases> </sqlCacheDependency> </caching>   (obviously the name and connection string name should be altered as required). Using a SQL Cache Dependency Now all the coding is complete. On the change of the presence I want to update the data and I am unable to update the data that is showing in the expandable list view.   Background: I am working in Automator on a wrapper to a command line utility. I need a way to separate an arbitrary number of file paths delimited by a single space from a single string, so that I may remove all but the first file path to pass to the program. Example input string: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 /Users/jimmy/gone mia/come back jimmy.mp3 ... Desired output: /Users/bobby/diddy dum/ding.mp4 Part of the problem is the inflexibility on the Automator end of things. I'm using an Automator action which returns unescaped POSIX filepaths delimited by a space (or comma). This is unfortunate because: 1. I cannot ensure file/folder names will not contain either a space or comma, and 2. the only inadmissible character in Mac OS X filenames (as far as I can tell) is :. There are options which allow me to enclose the file paths in double or single quotes, or angle brackets. The program itself accepts the argument of the aforementioned input string, so there must be a way of separating the paths. I just do not have a keen enough eye to see how to do it with sed or awk. At first I thought I'll just use sed to replace every [space]/ with [newline]/ and then trim all but the first line, but that leaves the loophole open for folders whose names end with a space. If I use the comma delimiter, the same happens, just for a comma instead. If I encapsulate in double or single quotation marks, I am opening another can of worms for filenames with those characters. The image/link is the relevant part of my Automator workflow. -- UPDATE -- I was able to achieve what I wanted in a rather roundabout way.   This is Windows 7 x64 sp1 on a NTFS file system. All hardlinks within C:\Windows\System32 folder disappear, and the Windows can't boot, because even the osloader, C:\Windows\System32\boot\Winload.exe also disappeared. Nevertheless, the original files are still located in the corresponding C:\Windows\winsxs folders. After booting into the Recovery Environment, and copied one Winload.exe (x64) from other folder, Windows gave an error pointing out that "ntoskrnl.exe is corrupted or missing...its file digital signature cannot be verified" In trying to boot in Safe Mode, the message above was shown after a screen prompting "Loaded \Windows\system32\config\system" Because at this early booting stage, smss.exe was still not loaded, so there is not any dumping and logs. Based on my study, ntoskrnl.exe depends on the following files: C:\windows\system32\PSHED.DLL C:\Windows\System32\hal.dll C:\Windows\System32\kdcom.dll C:\Windows\System32\clfs.sys C:\Windows\System32\ci.dll All those files above are copied from their corresponding folders and verified their md5 with a well-operating Windows 7 x64 SP1. But the booting error is still the same: "ntoskrnl.exe is corrupted or missing..." Background: 1. Before the reboot, there was an windows update going on. Then something unknown happen, almost all processes were broken to run, including the windows task manager, taskmgr.exe. After mount the hard disk to other computer, it seems that all hardlinks within C:\Windows\System32 folder were gone. I tried several data recovery software, but they are not be able to find those disappeared NTFS hard links. So the question is: Where are information about those hard links stored? And how to recover them? Are they depend on some windows service or stored in the registry?

If the user is logged into Twitter with my application, each request I make (be it get or post) I want to use the cookies so they remain logged in. That's the basics of it anyway. But, I don't want to return a string in all instances. Sometimes I may want the cookie, or a header value, or something else from the request. Ideally I'd like to be able to do this in my code: Cookie cookie = http.get("http://google.com").cookie("g_user"); String g_user = cookie.value; or String source = http.get("http://google.com").body; My question - To do this, would I need to have a Get class, and a Post class, that are included within the HTTP class and are accessible via accessors? I checked out a repository to the source folder and can search the files. However the links for history and annotate are not active. I have svn installed and indexing the directory give no warnings or errors. (There was an error when I didnt have the SVN client installed) Is there some configuration needed?   I am a beginning iPhone SDK programmer. I built a simple practice application I am trying to use to learn more about table views. It's an app that loads football teams from a plist and displays them in a table view with their stadium name and logo. Tapping the team goes to a detail view for that team. I am trying to understand how to add sections to this, so that I might have a couple of teams in one section and others in another section, etc. I would assume I need to both re-structure my plist and change the code to read arrays from the different levels of the plist? To begin, I had a plist with the root array consisting of 3 dictionaries, one for each team. Each dictionary had 3 keys, "name" "stadium" and "logo". This works fine.   Hi, I am attempting to get a directory (which is ever-growing) full of .txt comma delimited files to import into my SQLite db. I now have all of the files importing ok, however I need to have some way of excluding the files that have been previously added to db. I have a column in the db called FileName where the name and extension are stored next to each record from each file. Now I need to say 'If the code finds XXX.txt and XXX.txt is already in db, then skip this file'. • How can I use Convert.ChangeType to convert string into numerics with group separator?

I call it like this: int value; var ok = "123".TryParse(out value, NumberFormatInfo.CurrentInfo) It works fine until I want to use a group separator: As I live in France, where the thousand separator is a space and the decimal separator is a comma, the string "1 234 567,89" should be equals to 1234567.89 (in Invariant culture). But, the function crashes! When a try to perform a non generic conversion, like double.Parse(...), I can use an overload which accepts a NumberStyles parameter. I specify NumberStyles.Number and this time it works! So, the questions are : Why the parsing does not respect my NumberFormatInfo (where the NumberGroupSeparator is well specified to a space, as I specified in my OS) How could I make work the generic version with Convert.ChangeTime, as it has no overload wich accepts a NumberStyles parameter ?

  Hi, I have an ATL COM object that I am using from C#. The interface currently looks like: interface ICHASCom : IDispatch{ [id(1), helpstring("method Start")] HRESULT Start([in] BSTR name, [out,retval] VARIANT_BOOL* result); ... [id(4), helpstring("method GetCount")] HRESULT GetCount([out,retval] LONG* numPorts); ... [id(7), helpstring("method EnableLogging")] HRESULT EnableLogging([in] VARIANT_BOOL enableLogging); }; That is, it's a very simple interface. I also have some events that I send back too. Now, I would like to add something to the interface. In the ATL I have some results, which are currently structs and look like struct REPORT_LINE { string creationDate; string Id; string summary; }; All the members of the struct are std::string. I have an array of these that I need to get back to the C#. What's the best way to do this? I suspect someone is going to say, "hey, you can't just send std::string over COM like that. If so, fine, but what's the best way to modidfy the struct? Change the std::string to BSTR? And then how do I, 1) Set up the IDL to pass an array of structs (structs with BSTR or std::string) 2) If I must use SAFEARRAYS, how do I fill the SAFEARRAYS with the structs. I'm not familiar with COM except for use with simple types. Thanks, Dave

  So I'm building an application that is going to do a ton of code generation with both C# and VB output (depending on project settings). I've got a CodeTemplateEngine, with two derived classes VBTemplateEngine and CSharpTemplateEngine. This question regards creating the property signatures based on columns in a database table. Using the IDataReader's GetSchemaTable method I gather the CLR type of the column, such as "System.Int32", and whether it IsNullable. However, I'd like to keep the code simple, and instead of having a property that looks like: public System.Int32? SomeIntegerColumn { get; set; } or public Nullable<System.Int32> SomeIntegerColumn { get; set; }, where the property type would be resolved with this function (from my VBTemplateEngine), public override string ResolveCLRType(bool? isNullable, string runtimeType) { Type type = TypeUtils.ResolveType(runtimeType); if (isNullable.HasValue && isNullable.Value == true && type.IsValueType) { return "System.Nullable(Of " + type.FullName + ")"; // or, for example... return type.FullName + "?"; } else { return type.FullName; } }, I would like to generate a simpler property. I hate the idea of building a Type string from nothing, and I would rather have something like: public int? SomeIntegerColumn { get; set; } Is there anything built-in anywhere, such as in the VBCodeProvider or CSharpCodeProvider classes that would somehow take care of this for me? Or is there a way to get a type alias of int? from a type string like System.Nullable'1[System.Int32]? Thanks!

  Hello, I am trying to replace some text in a string with different text while retaining some of the text and I am having trouble doing it. My code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fDialog.FileName.ToString()); string content = reader.ReadToEnd(); reader.Close(); /Replace M2 with M3 (this works fine) content = Regex.Replace(content, "M2", "M3"); I want to replace a string that contains this: Z0.1G0H1E1 and turn it into: G54G43Z.1H1M08 (Note the Z value and the H value contain the same numeric value before the text change) The trouble I am having is that when I replace the values, I need to retain the H value and the Z value from the first set of text. For example, Z0.5G0H5E1 I need to add the new text, but also add the H5 and Z0.5 back into the text such as: G54G43Z0.5H5M08 But the Z values and H values will be different every time, so I need to capture those values and reinsert them back into the string when add the new G54G43 values. Can someone please show me how to do this using Regex.Replace? Thanks so much, Shawn

• InvalidCastException when getting Text from a Label referenced by dynamicaly built String, Fix?

  NET Version: 3.5 Ok, I recieve an error (System.InvalidCastException was unhandled. Message="Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.Control[]' to type 'System.Windows.Forms.Label'.") when trying to get Text from a Label referenced by a dynamicly built string. Here's my situation; I have an array of 250 labels named l1 - l250. What I want to do is loop through them using this while statement: int c = 1; while (c < 251) { string k = "l" + c.ToString(); //dynamic name of Control(Label) object ka = Controls.Find(k, true); string ct = ((Label)ka).Text; //<<Error Occurs Here build = build + ct; c++; } and get the text value of each to build a string named build. I don't get any build errors, just this while debuging. While debuging I can go down to view my local variables. When looking through these, I can view the contents of object ka; it does contain the correct Text value of the correct Label I want to "access". I just don't understand how to get there. The text value is listed under "[0]" which is the only subcatagory for "ka".
