The site I work with on a day-to-day basis has its share of shortcomings and we often make design decisions to "get us by right now" with the intention of fixing those up later.
I've found that making the time to actually go back and fix them, let alone remembering what the full list of to-do items is can be challenging at best.
Can you recommend any tools, resources or tricks that help you effectively manage your technical debt?
Let's assume the following:
I have an IIS web site set up
IIS is configured to use Digest authentication
I'm running an ASP.NET page
The page has a code-behing assembly that overrides Page_Load
When a user navigates to that page, I get a security prompt for the username and password. If the username and password are invalid (i.e. incorrect password) is there a way for the called page, in Page_Load to know, or does IIS handle this and return the 401 before the ASP.NET engine ever gets around to resolving the actual Page class that will get executed?
Why is t.b evaluated on every call? And is there any way how to make it evaluate only once?
type test =
{ a: float }
member x.b =
printfn "oh no"
x.a * 2.
let t = { a = 1. }
t.b
t.b
This is my function:
(defun MyFunction(input)
(let ((NEWNUM (find input num)))
(if (find input num) //if this
(setq num NEWNUM) (FUNCT2) //then execute both of these
(list 'not found)))) //else output this
So after the if statment I want to be able to execute (setq num NEWNUM) and (FUNCT2). One to set a new variable and then the other to call a function. Any ideas on how to do this?
When you're opening page in IE it downloads lots of files, including CSS, scripts, pictures, SWFs, etc. I need to develop small plugin which will monitor all these URLs and let's say save to file this list.
I need it in Delphi, but any example in any other programming languages will be really appreciated.

I've got a Windows Service that runs BackgroundWorker's, and I'm wondering if I'm doing the right thing when I stop my Windows Service.
Is it enough to:
Let the BackgroundWorker1_DoWork method complete (I have a while loop in it now, doing some tasks)
Set the variable that holds the reference to the BackgroundWorker, to null
Is there some kind of Dispose() method I need to call (In the same way the Timer class has Timer.Dispose();)?
Hi there ..
Is there any way to let combobox suggest elements which not only start with combobox text?
I mean even if the combobox text has space between it's characters,
for example if combobox has these items
hello
hi
hellothere
when we try to type "he" or "h e" or "h e", the combobox would suggest hello and hellothere
What is the most straightforward way of making dictionary or list from a string in Python? Let's say I have string "{ 'x' : 3, 'y' : 4 }" and I want to parse it to a real dictionary object.
Suppose my client doesn't want me to own his iPhone Distribution Certificate, is there a way I can send him the compiled app and let him adjust all App Id, Provisioning etc parameters, then sign and submit it? How do I do this?
Hi guys,
Let's assume:
$time = '2010-05-17 02:49:30' // (retrieved from MySQL TIMESTAMP field)
How do I do the following in PHP:
1) Check if it has been more than one week since this time has passed?
2) Assuming "false" on (1), find out how much more time until the one week mark, rounded to days and hours remaining.
I know this is pretty straightforward, but it uses a very specific syntax. Having never played with time calculations before, I'd appreciate some guidance.
Thanks!
Please let me know when a call to shmat function can raise a signal 11.
if ((shmId=shmget(shmKey, 0, 0)) <= 0) {
printf( "shmget(0x%x)", shmKey);
return 0;
}
printf( "queueOpen - Key 0x%x gives ID %d", shmKey, shmId);
qh = shmat(shmId, 0, SHM_RND);
I am getting a signal 11 by the code above. Please help
if i do this in a worksheet:
=RAND()
i also specified that i want only 2 decimal places
and for example let's say that rand() = 0.07
what is the probability that when i call this function again i will get 0.07 ??
i know that ideally if we assume 100% randomness, the answer would be 1/ (10 * 10) because there are only 100 possible combinations, but what would it be according to the way excel generates a random number?
This should be really simple but I can't get it to work, how do I disable and add a class to an input? Let's say I've got an input field with id = name, this is how far I got,
$("input#name").attr("disabled");
What am I doing wrong here? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
Let's say I have a background worker like this:
private void backgroundWorker1_DoWork(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e)
{
while(true)
{
//Kill zombies
}
}
How can I make this background worker start and stop using a button on a WinForm?
How much time, and what basic steps, are involved in integrating the "Facebook Like" feature into an existing e-commerce site?
Let's say we are only interested in the feature at the product details level and have approximately 5 different product details areas.
Any recommended tutorials perhaps?
Thanks
In my application,I have an option of adding files to a list..were it will let the user to select multiple files at the same..am using CFileDialog to do tis and I enabled OFN_MULTISELECT (for multiselect)...The problem am facing is,When I try to add a shortcut file..its not taking the actual shortcut path,its reffering to the actual path.Actually I wanted to avoid shortcut file being added to my list,but every shortcut file that is being added does not have the extension ".lnk"(i dont know the reason).
So,is there any way that we can neglect the shortcut file being added.
I need a way to request any site using Ajax. I mean ANY site, I don't want to have to use the workarounds that firefox offers that only apply to someone who's making page requests from the same domain. Is there ANY way to let this happen? I want this to occur as a local file.
What is the basic setup on the subject?
Let say I have a QByteArray, and I need to encrypt it with simple password.
And then decrypt it in another piece of code
Just a very simple setup
Let's say I need to create a new file whose path is ".\a\bb\file.txt". The folder a and bb may not exist. How can I create this file in C# in which folder a and bb are automatically created if not exist?
Let's assume you have a big complex index page, that shows news articles and stuff. It's not going to change very often. Can you cache it somehow on the serverside, so requests don't force to server to dynamically generate the entire page every time someone visits it? Or does ASP.NET do this automatically?
If so, how does it know if something has changed?
