Hi All,
I am writing and publishing my apps on android and would like to provide help document (manual) to users of my apps. I've seen apps open up external web pages as their help, or use html view to open local html documents. Are these the ways we are supposed to deliver manual to our users?
I wonder how could is possible to make custom shape key on android keyboard. To create custom keyboard is relatively easy, but what needs to be done to create new buttons. They also need to respond with all events as normal keyboard.
Any ideas where to start?
Found this question while trying to do the same:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/642076/how-to-save-sms-to-inbox-in-android-programmatically.
But this part:
getContentResolver().insert(Uri.parse("content://sms/sent"), values);
throws an SecurityException.
I requestet SMS_WRITE permission in the manifest file.
Thanks in advance!
What is the difference when a class extend from Handler and Thread?
As described in developer.android.com
...
Each Handler instance is associated with a single thread and that thread's message queue.
...
Does the thread has no message queue ?
Any benefit for a class extend from Handler?
In an Android app, whenever the activity launches, the textbox gets the focus and the soft keyboard pops up automatically. I have tried to stop this by using following line in onCreate method, but it does not work.
((InputMethodManager) getSystemService(Context.INPUT_METHOD_SERVICE)).hideSoftInputFromWindow(EditText.getWindowToken(), 0);
i wonder how you can make an advanced Android User interface where you can add for example a drag drop and more graphics options? is that by using OpenGl ?!

Can Android applications see OS wide context in terms of network? For example,
what applications are using the network
what IP addresses is the OS connected to
etc.
I'm asking because I know each application runs in it's own Dalvik virtual machine.
Hello, I have implemented a routing protocol on an Android 1.6 mobile that uses wireless (ad-hoc) network in order to exchange messages. Now I would like to evaluate it under an energy consumption point of view, the base would be to try to calculate the energy wasted to transmit a single packet, do anybody has any idea how to do that? Software/hardware solutions are welcome! Thanx :)

I have a Class that needs to obtain a reference to it's application's AssetManager. This class does not extend any sort of android UI class, so it doesn't have a getContext() method, or anything similar. Is there some sort of static Context.getCurrentApplicationContext() type of method?
To clarify: my class is intended to be used like a library, for other applications. It has no associated AndroidManifest.xml or control over the context which is calling it.
As far as I understand it is necessary for people using Scala for Android applications to bundle the Scala classes they used with their application.
Considering this adds hundreds of kilobytes to each Scala app redundantly, would it be possible to build a Scala library which can be delivered over the market, so app writers can just depend on that library instead of bundling it themselves?
To make a phone call via HTML on an iPhone I create an <A/> tag with an href formatted as: <a href='tel:123-555-1212'>Dial Me</a>.
Is there an equivelant for HTML on Android?

Hi.
As I know, it is possible to add my app's info on incoming call screen on Android. (As WhitePage's CallerId)
There are posts about it but I didn't see any good sample or instructions on how to do that.
Can anyone write down a good example for that?
Thanks.
