    I was using CodeRush quite while ago and now I'm planning to use it again. I've install the trial but I forgot all cool features except Alt + Home (drop a marker). And when you don't know some cool tricks it's really like burning money (since it's not cheap for personal use) What do you like about it? What are your best features? My best feature is marker: Alt + Home (and use escape to go back) P.S Dear Devxpress, if you think I helped you by asking this question I can accept some donations, a free license of CodeRush would be nice!   • I have VS2010 Ultimate. Shouldn't TFS Server be included?

    Dumb question I'm sure, but when I log onto my MSDN subscription account, I don't see Team Foundation Server in the list of available for download software application. I thought it was supposed to come with VS2010 Ultimate, which I could download. Is it a separate download? Could it be that my MSDN account level gives me access to VS2010 but that I am still not entitled to TFS? I'd like to install it instead of using VSS.

  • VSC++, virtual method at bad adress, curious bug

    Hello, This guy: virtual phTreeClass* GetTreeClass() const { return (phTreeClass*)m_entity_class; } When called, crashed the program with an access violation, even after a full recompile. All member functions and virtual member functions had correct memory adresses (I hovered mouse over the methods in debug mode), but this function had a bad memory adress: 0xfffffffc. Everything looked okay: the 'this' pointer, and everything works fine up until this function call. This function is also pretty old and I didn't change it for a long time. The problem just suddenly popped up after some work, which I commented all out to see what was doing it, without any success. So I removed the virtual, compiled, and it works fine. I add virtual, compiled, and it still works fine! I basically changed nothing, and remember that I did do a full recompile earlier, and still had the error back then. I wasn't able to reproduce the problem. But now it is back. I didn't change anything. Removing virtual fixes the problem. Sincerely, Antoon

  • Why page_load is called twice in my web application?

    Hi, I have already gone through some of the posts in many websites regarding page_load being called twice but my problem is little bit different from those. My problem is with the landing page of my web application. Initially in my website page_load for the landing page was getting called twice every time when it is loaded. Since my application is an upgraded one (from VS 2003 to VS 2005/2008), I commented the "this.load" event in InitializeComponent. Now it works fine, when user first logs in, into my web application. But then, whenever user navigates to this page from any other page in my application, page_load gets called twice. Does anybody have any idea about why this could be happening. I tried to track the call stack for this, but VS 2008 was showing that this was getting called from external code. Also, I am using frames in my web application. I wonder if this problem has anything to do with frames. Any help is deeply appreciated. Regards, Hari

    I have a security manager in my application that works for both windows and web, the process is simple, just takes the user and pwd and authenticates them against a database then sets the Thread.CurrentPrincipal with a custom principal. For windows applications this works fine, but I have problems with web applications. After the process of authentication, when I'm trying to set the Current.User to the custom principal from Thread.CurrentPrincipal this last one contains a GenericPrincipal. Am I doing something wrong?     I have a very strange problem with Visual Source Safe. I use VSS as a add-on with VS 2008 in a corporate intranet with 5 other colleagues. My VS stops working after 5 p.m. most of days with complaining can not connect Source Safe. I'm running VS 2008 and VSS 2005 on Vista and no other one in corporate have such a problem. What do you think about its cause? Is there any log for VSS?

  • Ramifications of CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls=false

    I recently updated an application from VS2003 to VS2008 and I knew I would be dealing with a host of "Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'myControl' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on" I am handling this in what I beleive is the correct way (see code sample below). I am running into numerous controls that are going to need a similar fix. Not wanting to have similar code for every label, textbox etc.. that are being accessed by a non UI thread. What are the ramifications of just setting the CheckForIllegalCrossThreadCalls = false for the entire app? I found a CodeProject article with various workarounds and a warning at the bottom to NOT set the property.   • DebuggerDisplay attribute does not work as expected!

    Dear ladies and sirs. I know that this attribute should work in C# and yet, in my case it does not. I have a class with a lazy property Children. Accessing this property may have a side effect of roundtripping to the server. So, naturally, I do not want this to happen when I just watch it in the debugger watch window. Omitting all the irrelevant details the source looks pretty ordinary: [DebuggerDisplay("(Frozen) {m_children}")] public IList<IEntityBase> Children { get { if (m_children == null) { m_children = FetchChildrenFromDB(this); } return m_children; } } And yet, when I watch the object and expand this in the watch window I do not see (Frozen) in the display, meaning the debugger simply ignores the attribute.     When I run the custom tool to create the cs files for SubSonic all the templates now inject a letter g to the top of the cs files. To get this to compile I need to remove the g from the ActiveRecord.cs, Struts.cs, Context.cs and StoredProcedures.cs. Anyone else run into this? I am using MySQL.

  • Effective Method to Manage and Search Through 100,000+ Objects Instantly? (C#)

    I'm writing a media player for enthusiasts with large collections (over 100,000 tracks) and one of my main goals is speed in search. I would like to allow the user to perform a Google-esque search of their entire music collection based on these factors: Song Path and File Name Items in ID3 Tag (Title, Artist, Album, etc.) Lyrics What is the best way for me to store this data and search through it? Currently I am storing each track in an object and iterating over an array of these objects checking each of their variables for string matches based on given search text. I've run into problems though where my search is not effective because it is always a phrase search and I'm not sure how to make it more fuzzy. Would an internal DB like SQLlite be faster than this? Any ideas on how I should structure this system? I also need playlist persistence, so that when they close the app and open the app their same playlist loads immediately. How should I store the playlist information so it can load quickly when the application starts? Currently I am JSON encoding the entire playlist, storing it in a text file, and reading it into the ListView at runtime, but it is getting sluggish over 20,000 tracks. Thanks!

  • Issue with Visual C++ 2010 (Express) External Tools command

    I posted this on SuperUser...but I was hoping the pros here at SO might have a good idea about how to fix this as well.... Normally we develop in VS 2005 Pro, but I wanted to give VS 2010 a spin. We have custom build tools based off of GNU make tools that are called when creating an executable. This is the error that I see whenever I call my external tool: ...\gnu\make.exe): * couldn't commit memory for cygwin heap, Win32 error 487 The caveat is that it still works perfectly fine in VS2005, as well as being called straight from the command line. Also, my external tool is setup exactly the same as in VS 2005. Is there some setting somewhere that could cause this error to be thrown?

    I am having a problem with my virtual methods in a derived class. Here are my (simplified) C++ classes. class Base virtual method accept( MyVisitor1* v ) { /*implementation is here*/ }; virtual method accept( MyVisitor2* v ) { /*implementation is here*/ }; virtual method accept( MyVisitor3* v ) { /*implementation is here*/ }; class DerivedClass virtual method accept( MyVisitor2* v ) { /*implementation is here*/ }; The following use causes VS 2005 to give: "error C2664: 'DerivedClass::accept' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'Visitor1*' to 'Visitor2 *'". DerivedClass c; MyVisitor1 v1; c.accept(v1); I was expecting the compiler to find and call Base::accept(MyVisitor1) for my DerivedClass as well. Obviously this is not working, but I don't understand why. Any ideas? Thanks, Paul

After passed to next form, itll me.visible = false. Theres 3 buttons on the Select form which call Customer, Staff and Exit. As i had just start, the button Customer will pass to a MDI menu call Customer Menu with a menu strip button called Quotation. Same, Select will me.visible = false when done. Then a problem occured, i made a Quotation inside the Customer Menu, such as the mdiparent of Quotation is Customer. I expected that the Quotation button will disenable to press after i pressed that button. But i fail to do that.     I am trying to identify a problem because of an unusual usage of variadic macros. Here is the hypothetic macro: #define va(c, d, ...) c(d, __VA_ARGS__) #define var(a, b, ...) va(__VA_ARGS__, a, b) var(2, 3, printf, “%d %d %d\n”, 1); For gcc, the preprocessor will output printf("%d %d %d\n", 1, 2, 3) but for VS 2008, the output is printf, “%d %d %d\n”, 1(2, 3); I suspect the difference is caused by the different treatment to VA_ARGS, for gcc, it will first expand the expression to va(printf, "%d %d %d\n", 1, 2, 3), and treat 1, 2, 3 as the VA_ARGS for macro va. But for VS 2008, it will first treat b as VA_ARGS for macro va, and then do the expansion. Which one is correct interpretation for C99 variadic macro? or my usage falls into an undefined behavior?

    I have a legacy MS NMAKE Makefile I need to fix a few bugs in. There are some very long command lines I wish to debug that are being executed using the NMAKE trick of "inline files": dep: cmd @<<tmpfilename cmd_args.. << When changing the line to dep: echo cmd @<<tmpfilename cmd_args.. << NMAKE complains that the line is too long. Is there any other trick I can apply in order to view the command line NMAKE is actually executing?

I don't want to have to make an event handler in Form1 and then pipe it to the other class / module, is there some way to automatically "pipe" the events from form1 to form1handler?
