Hi, I need to send mail form shell script with Snow Leopard local postfix, but it doesn't work
echo "`whoami` login, `date`" | mail -s "test" [email protected]
Pinnacle Studio 14 Importer crashes on Windows 7 x64, thus I'm unable to import videos from my camcorder. I've Googled around and it seems to be a problem with x64 support in the program, but there is no info if it can somehow be remedied with Compatibility settings, XP mode.
Further Googling got me this link, and none of the tips in site it links help. I've got no idea what ObjectDoct Plus 2 is (no a program or service installed by that name) which he claims causes the problem.
Is that ObjectDoct critical to Pinnacle Studio and how to get rid of it (or any other advice how to make Studio 14 work on x64).
UPDATE: 1) XP mode doesn't help as it doesn't handle Firewire, which is how my Canon HV20 must be connected to transfer HDV from tape. 2) I don't have that ObjectDock installed. 3) I don't wanna re-buy PS15 just to get this solved as PS14 should be able to do it.
I have this old computer - P4 2.0ghz, 1.2GB RAM and onboard graphics(no external card), 80GBHDD. It has xubuntu installed on it and it regularly hangs when it takes more system resources for say like graphical programs, too many tabs on firefox etc. It just either hangs the system or shows black screen.
Tested if it was issue of HD but it wasn't because i have used linux livecd and problem is still the same even if I have removed the HD. I have also tested with USB linux (puppy linux and ubuntu linux on 8gb drives). Tested windows XP as well on this HD and results are the same. Tested another HD on this machine, results are still the same with it. System hangs or goes black screen and requires restart.
I thought later it could be thermal heat issue and then applied thermal paste on heatsink but still it fails to work for me. It continues to show symptoms. Another thing which was yet to be tested is changing of CPU fan which was not done because I have not found any fan for old pentium 4 machine in the market. I have to hit online stores (but i am in india and it's hard to find it in online shops which can deliver it to me).
So far I don't see this as HD or Monitor or OS issue because I have tested with other HD and results are the same. So it could be either CPU fan or motherboard? What could be possible issue with the hardware?
Here is my problem. I have an android tablet that have only WiFi for network connectivity and I have a windows server that have only Ethernet ports for network connection. Now I want to telnet to my server from my tablet. I think some wireless to Ethernet converter required in between. I am planning to use Buffalo Air Station WCR-GN or TP-LINK TL-WR740N or TL-WR702N. The connection setup should be like this:
[server]<---Ethernet---[WIFI router]<---wireless---[Tablet].
Now I am in doubt will this setup work? Anybody please help me with this.
Regards
Ashok
Symptoms
While attempting to install Windows 7 (64 bit) on my new PC build, it freezes usually at the point where it is expanding the windows image, but has frozen as early as accepting the licence agreement, and as late as just after the first restart.
My specs are at the bottom of the post.
So far I have tried the following to identify the problem, in rough chronological order:
Tried different hard drives with different sata cables. Same symptoms. I later used a different computer to install windows on the same hard drive with no problems.
Tried the RAM in different slots, and tried one RAM stick instead of two. Same symptoms.
Updated the BIOS to 1.60. Same symptoms.
Ran Memtest86+ with RAM in dual channel. It passed about 6 times when I left it running overnight.
Used USB to install windows instead of an optical drive. Same symptoms.
Change SATA configuration from AHCI to IDE. Same symptoms.
Tried various different SATA ports. Same symptoms.
Updated BIOS to 1.70. Same symptoms.
I saw the RAM did not list my motherboard as being supported even though the motherboard did list the RAM as being supported. So I tried some Kingston DDR3 1333MHz RAM instead. Same symptoms.
Other (possibly) pertinent information
My CPU idles at about 30 °C. I can't tell what it gets to when it's working. When I installed the CPU, the lever which locks the CPU in place took quite a bit of force to pull down. Now I didn't just yank it down without rechecking the CPU was seated properly about 5 times, but it does seems unusual, and I wonder if the CPU was seated badly if I would see these symptoms?
I am out of ideas and don't know how to diagnose any further. I suppose either the motherboard or CPU must be the problem. I am on the verge of taking it to a specialist.
The Question
How should I proceed from here? Is there anything I can rule out as being the source of the symptoms I am seeing?
My Specs
CPU: Intel i5 3570k
RAM: G.Skill RipjawsX 8GB kit
HDD: single 3.5" 500GB SATA or 160GB 2.5" SATA (at different times and sometime together. But no RAID or anything).
MB: ASRock Extreme4 Z77
PSU: Silverstone Strider Plus 600W ST60F-P
I'm working with a computer that has setup a local account connected under Windows Live ID. The user can login to Live ID (like hotmail) from another computer with the correct credentials. However from the Windows 8 computer using the correct password it indicates.
That password is incorrect. Make sure you're using the password for you Mircrosoft Account. You can always reset it at account.live.com/password/reset.
Now, I've used NTPASSWD to reset the password, but it seems that since its not a "Local Account" it wont take the new password or blank one.
This account also has a "PIN" the user who also has forgotten it.
I also tried to enable/password set the local Administrator account but it does not show up for login.
Any ideas?
Like many users, we tend to register the *.com and *.net versions of our domain names to prevent nefarious squatters. So if we wanted "foo.com" we'd also register "foo.net" and have them both resolve to the same IP address.
Trying to set up Apache for the first time and need to know the proper way to redirect requests to "foo.net" to go to "foo.com" instead so that if a user types in "foo.net" they get magically redirected to "foo.com".
I've been reading through the Apache URL Rewriting guide (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/misc/rewriteguide.html) and it's not readily apparent how to do this seemingly simple task.
Please advise this apprentice oh wise Apache jedi...
This is more of a major annoyance than anything that's stopping me from doing my work, but I somehow seem to have had Active Desktop on my work XP machine get corrupted and now can't get it back working again.
I've tried browsing to C:\Documents and Settings\%my-user-name%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer and changing, deleting or replacing the Desktop.htt file, but it's not achieving anything.
The error I was previously getting when trying to click the "Restore my active desktop" button was:

Any ideas?
Currently I am living in a fairly "remote" area, in the countryside, and cable internet access through the typical companies like comcast and qwest is just not available here.
I've been trying to research other options for fast internet access. There are some small cable companies but they currently do not offer broadband access here.
I thought about maybe buying a 3g phone with a data plan and doing some sort of tethering, or perhaps getting an android phone and using it as a wireless AP. This would of course depend on 3g being available here.
The only other thing I can think of is some sort of satellite internet service, or doing something crazy like adapting wifi over am radio. Anyone have any ideas, at all, short of moving somewhere else?
The various Linux's desktops open files according to their mime type. This is a very nice feature but I also need to open them by extension (as with Windows).
For instance, I want to open every xxxxx.vnc files with a specific program when I double-click on them.
I use xfce but I don't think it differs from Gnome or KDE because all of them use the same configuration files (defaults.list and mimeapps.list).
If possible the settings are user specific, not system wide.
I've found some very poor informations about that, and all are system wide, so may be wiped out by some updates.
In MS Outlook, I need to be able to incrementally copy items in multiple folders in the Exchange account to a local PST file with a mirrored folder structure. I need the items in each folder to be combined into the destination. For example, let's say on the server account I have a folder tree like this:
Inbox
SortedEmails1
SortedEmails2
SortedEmails3
I also have these same four folders in the local PST file, which I want to keep growing as I incrementally pull more messages from the Exchange server. Messages from "Inbox" should go to the local "Inbox", messages from "SortedEmails1" should go into "SortedEmails1" in the local PST, etc. I'd like to avoid manually iterating into every single folder and copying items.
How can I do this?
I recently formatted my Acer Aspire 4730z and attempted to install Windows 7. I have tried more than 5 times with no avail. Currently, I am doing a clean install by booting it from the DVD. I have the SATA set to IDE. When it restarts after the installation to complete the installation, it goes to a black screen and stops moving. It's been 10 minutes now.
I'd like to be able to stop the Windows Key from activating the Start Menu on Windows 7.
I don't want to disable the Windows Key completely.
I'd like Ctrl + Esc to still open the Start Menu.
I know that you can use AutoHotKey to disable the Windows Key completely.
The reason I want this functionality is that I have a lot of shortcut keys linked to the Windows key and this often results in accidentally opening the start menu.
According to this question, it is legal to use a Windows 7 OEM license that is presently installed as a 32-bit install with a 64-bit version of Windows 7. With that in mind, I purchased several refurbished systems through TigerDirect. When I received the computers today, I found that they have a Windows 7 license key attached to them that says it is a "refurbished key." A flyer in the box also seemed to imply that this key would not work with regular OEM media.
Has anyone tried using regular OEM media with a refurbished key? I had hoped to create a new 64-bit WIM image that I could use on these systems, but I don't want to try replacing the default install with this new 64-bit install only to find that the key won't validate. If it requires a special customized image, is it possible to convert another type of Windows 7 disc into the required sort much as one can convert a retail disc to an OEM one (and vise versa)?
I am trying to compile HelloWorld in Java under Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and I get this compiler error:
java[51692:903] Can't open input server /Library/InputManagers/Inquisitor
It happens when I am using terminal command javac and when I am trying to do this in NetBeans.
I was trying to open folder "Inquisitor", but I have no access to folder, even if I login as root user.
What is going on?
I've got a 24" 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo iMac. It's about 18 months old, though I can't specifically remember when I bought it. It has a Displayport Mini-DVI socket on the back, and currently I have that linked to a DVI adaptor driving a Philips 20" widescreen monitor in portrait mode (awesome for browsing).
I have another, identical Philips monitor and wondered if there was a way of connecting that to the iMac too. Is there such a thing as a DisplayPort Mini-DVI to dual-DVIs adaptor?
Can this iMac's graphics card even drive such a set-up? The graphics chipset in the iMac is reported as ATI Radeon HS2600, 256 MB.
The main iMac display is 1920x1200 and the Philips display is 1050x1680 (@60Hz, rotated 90 degrees). The third screen would be another 1050x1680 and ideally I'd have it portrait again, too.
EDIT: Please let this question stand - it's not a dupe. The current Mac laptops use 'Mini Displayport' connectors, which are not the same as DisplayPort Mini-DVI connectors.
Hello.
I have a problem (using Mac OS X 10.5.8) with the access rights of a folder that was presumably created by a virus on a disk-on-key drive when I used it with a PC. I can't remove the folder or change it's name. In Finder's Info window the Lock box is unchecked and uncheckable - if I try to check it it flips back to off.

I've been using the Picasa "sync to web" feature but recently noticed that several folders, with a lot of synced photos and videos inside them, lost their synced status as soon as I moved them to another location on the disk (not through the Picasa "move folder" command).
These folders now still appear with the green arrow indicating that their contents were uploaded, but they lost the blue sync icon they previously had (and are no longer syncing...).
If I try to reactivate the "sync to web" option for these folders, Picasa starts re-uploading ALL of their contents. This is absurd.. and would take ages to complete.
Is there any way I can somehow get Picasa to recognize these moved folders as the counterpart folder of an existing online folder for sync purposes?
I have a Window 7 x64 install with a bootable VHD (also Windows 7 x64). I was having problems getting my homeserver to do backups (VSS erred) so I ran check disk and used a tool from MS (cleanc2r.exe) to remove an empty Q drive from the VHD that I believe was a result of installing Office 2010 Beta. (All of this was done on the bootable VHD, not the main install.)
Now I can't boot into the main install. It gets past the Starting Windows screen and then goes black. I can still boot into the bootable VHD and everything works fine from there. I have tried to boot the main install in Safe Mode/Safe Mode with Networking/and Safe Mode command prompt and it has the same issue. I ran chkdsk /r on the main install and after doing all the work there was a message about correcting some free space that was marked as allocated and also that it was unable to make an entry into the event log.
I tried the startup repair utility and it found no problems. I don't see the setting for restore to last know good configuration so I couldn't do that.
I don't recall installing anything new to the main install nor having hooked up any new hardware recently.
I have an external USB hard drive mounted in Ubuntu 9.10 with full read/write abilities over SMB. If it stays on for awhile though, I lose the ability to write to it. I end up having to ssh in and unmount, mount, reboot in order to have write ability again.
Any reason on what might be causing this and how to fix it?
I'm looking for a Gnu/Linux package manager, that can help to package, distribute, install sofware (actually scientific libraries), like this:
do not required root privilege, for example, install in $HOME/opt or $HOME/local
manage muliple version of a library, for example, with this directories organisation:
$HOME/opt/somelib/4.2.1/lib/
$HOME/opt/somelib/4.2.1/include/
$HOME/opt/somelib/4.2.1/bin/
$HOME/opt/somelib/4.2.2/lib/
$HOME/opt/somelib/4.2.2/include/
$HOME/opt/somelib/4.2.2/bin/
$HOME/opt/anotherlib/1.0.0/lib/
$HOME/opt/anotherlib/1.0.0/include/
$HOME/opt/anotherlib/1.0.0/bin/
package contains source files, not binaries, build is performed during install.
support for Mac OS X too would be good.
Then it's up to the user to manage it's LD_LIBRARY_PATH, or compile with -L/good/path etc.
Does it exists?
When I try to save an image from a Web page with a program written in AutoHotkey,it always chooses the last folder I had chosen manually to save Web images.
This is the script (assuming I'm on Web page and I want to save the images of a series of Web pages):
FileSelectFolder, OutputVar, , 3
if OutputVar =
MsgBox, You didn't select a folder.
else
MsgBox, You selected folder "%OutputVar%".

Sleep 5000
Send {ENTER}
Sleep 5000
MouseClick, left, 75, 397

Is there a more rapid way to do this?
