  • How does one go about fixing a pixelation issue?

    - by Tyler
I've been having a lot of trouble with pixelation and also in-game display driver crashes. At first I thought the problem may have been my graphics card (Sapphire 5750) but I have RMA'd it three times and I'm still having trouble. So what I think it might be is my PSU, its 650Watt but its made by Azza so it was cheap and not made by a necessarily good company. Or maybe it could be the CPU (AMD Phenom Black Edition 3.4Ghz) It runs hot (60C) but it passes Everest's test. Someone told me it could be the memory (8GB DDR3) but I don't really see how RAM has anything to do with my problem. So what are some of you suggestions? Here is a video a made awhile ago of what is happening. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/4392213/ati_radeon_5750/ That was just a stress test most games tend to just freeze and crash or lock my system up.

  • Accessing typedef from the instance

    - by piotr
As in stl containers, why can't we access a typedef inside the class from the class instance? Is there a particular insight into this? When value_type was a template parameter it could help making more general code if there wasn't the need to specify the template parameters as in vector::value_type Example: class T { public: typedef int value_type; value_type i; }; T t; T::value_type i; // ok t.value_type i; // won't work

  • Convert SWF/FLA back to PDF [closed]

    - by mitjak
Possible Duplicate: How do I convert SWF into a PDF? I have a number of graphics and text only SWF and FLA files that I'd like to convert to PDF preserving the text and formatting. Printing to PDF from Flash Player seems to flatten everything into an image without preserving the text. I've got a large number of those files, so it would be quite nice to have a automatable/console utility to do the job. Appreciate any help or pointers. Thanks! EDIT: It seems like most SWF files were created with pdf2swf, so I'm hoping there is a similar tool for doing a reverse conversion.

  • JAVA: 500 Worker Threads, what kind of thread pool?

    - by Submerged
I am wondering if this is the best way to do this. I have about 500 threads that run indefinitely, but Thread.sleep for a minute when done one cycle of processing. ExecutorService es = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(list.size()+1); for (int i = 0; i < list.size(); i++) { es.execute(coreAppVector.elementAt(i)); //coreAppVector is a vector of extends thread objects } I do need a separate threads for each running task, so changing the architecture isn't an option. I tried making my threadPool size equal to Runtime.getRuntime().availableProcessors() which attempted to run all 500 threads, but only let 8 (4xhyperthreading) of them execute. The other threads wouldn't surrender and let other threads have their turn. I tried putting in a wait() and notify(), but still no luck. If anyone has a simple example or some tips, I would be grateful!

  • Avoid the use of loops (for) with R

    - by albergali
Hi, I'm working with R and I have a code like this: i<-1 j<-1 for (i in 1:10) for (j in 1:100) if (data[i] == paths[j,1]) cluster[i,4] <- paths[j,2] where : data is a vector with 100 rows and 1 column paths is a matrix with 100 rows and 5 columns cluster is a matrix with 100 rows and 5 columns My question is: how could I avoid the use of "for" loops to iterate through the matrix? I don't know whether apply functions (lapply, tapply...) are useful in this case. This is a problem when j=10000 for example, because execution time is very long. Thank you

  • Can I use only a HDMI monitor?

    - by Felix
I recently found out there are such things as PC monitors with TV capabilities (or TVs that can be PC monitors), and the idea kind of tickles my fancy. I'm thinking of getting one of these gadgets, and if I do, I will connect it to my PC via HDMI (my graphics card has builtin HDMI), so that I also get sound to the TV. The reason for this is because I have a 2.1 sound system which I want to use both on the PC and the TV. Basically, I want the configuration to look like this: Cable --------> TV --> 2.1 Sound System PC --HDMI--> TV --> 2.1 Sound System My question is: can I use a setup like this? Can I not have a classic VGA monitor? Will I be able to see non-graphical interfaces (such as the BIOS, GRUB, a Linux terminal, ...) through HDMI on the TV? I use Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

  • Super Noob C++ variable help

    - by julian
    Ok, I must preface this by stating that I know so so little about c++ and am hoping someone can just help me out... I have the below code: string GoogleMapControl::CreatePolyLine(RideItem *ride) { std::vector<RideFilePoint> intervalPoints; ostringstream oss; int cp; int intervalTime = 30; // 30 seconds int zone =ride->zoneRange(); if(zone >= 0) { cp = 300; // default cp to 300 watts } else { cp = ride->zones->getCP(zone); } foreach(RideFilePoint* rfp, ride->ride()->dataPoints()) { intervalPoints.push_back(*rfp); if((intervalPoints.back().secs - intervalPoints.front().secs) > intervalTime) { // find the avg power and color code it and create a polyline... AvgPower avgPower = for_each(intervalPoints.begin(), intervalPoints.end(), AvgPower()); // find the color QColor color = GetColor(cp,avgPower); // create the polyline CreateSubPolyLine(intervalPoints,oss,color); intervalPoints.clear(); intervalPoints.push_back(*rfp); } } return oss.str(); } void GoogleMapControl::CreateSubPolyLine(const std::vector<RideFilePoint> &points, std::ostringstream &oss, QColor color) { oss.precision(6); QString colorstr = color.name(); oss.setf(ios::fixed,ios::floatfield); oss << "var polyline = new GPolyline(["; BOOST_FOREACH(RideFilePoint rfp, points) { if (ceil(rfp.lat) != 180 && ceil(rfp.lon) != 180) { oss << "new GLatLng(" << rfp.lat << "," << rfp.lon << ")," << endl; } } oss << "],\"" << colorstr.toStdString() << "\",4);"; oss << "GEvent.addListener(polyline, 'mouseover', function() {" << endl << "var tooltip_text = 'Avg watts:" << avgPower <<" <br> Avg Speed: <br> Color: "<< colorstr.toStdString() <<"';" << endl << "var ss={'weight':8};" << endl << "this.setStrokeStyle(ss);" << endl << "this.overlay = new MapTooltip(this,tooltip_text);" << endl << "map.addOverlay(this.overlay);" << endl << "});" << endl << "GEvent.addListener(polyline, 'mouseout', function() {" << endl << "map.removeOverlay(this.overlay);" << endl << "var ss={'weight':5};" << endl << "this.setStrokeStyle(ss);" << endl << "});" << endl; oss << "map.addOverlay (polyline);" << endl; } And I'm trying to get the avgPower from this part: AvgPower avgPower = for_each(intervalPoints.begin(), intervalPoints.end(), AvgPower()); the first part to cary over to the second part: << "var tooltip_text = 'Avg watts:" << avgPower <<" <br> Avg Speed: <br> Color: "<< colorstr.toStdString() <<"';" << endl But of course I haven't the slightest clue how to do it... anyone feeling generous today? Thanks in advance

  • List of functions references

    - by Ockonal
Hello, I'm using boost::function for making references to the functions. Can I make a list of references? For example: boost::function<bool (Entity &handle)> behaviorRef; And I need in a list of such pointers. For example: std::vector<behaviorRef> listPointers; Of course it's wrong code due to behaviorRef isn't a type. So the question is: how can I store a list of pointers for the function?

  • Laptop display not working unless DVI cable is plugged in

    - by marien
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T420 with an i5 processor and integrated graphics. I dropped the laptop and now the screen is not working. I replaced the screen and it is still not working. It shows the BIOS and then at Windows login the screen gets all static looking. But if I plug in a DVI-to-HDMI cable the laptop starts and works fine. Even the external display works and the laptop display works too. As soon as I unplug the cable the screen crashes and is all static. I cannot figure out the problem. The video works because the external screen still works. How can I fix this?

  • BSOD after PC has been running for a while

    - by user1389999
I'm having a problem where my computer is getting a blue screen. I have noticed that the BSOD happens after the PC has been running for about 2 days. The BSOD's seem to be an error with atikmpag.sys with an error code of 0x00000116. The problem started about a month ago.It has happened all five times that I left my computer on that long in the past month. Because my computer is a pre-built one from Dell, and I had upgraded the graphics card (at least a year ago) to a more demanding one, I replaced the stock 360W power supply that came with it. I replaced it with a more powerful, 680W one, because it seemed like the problem could be related to a lack of power supply wattage, but it didn't affect the problem at all. Here are the minidump files for the five BSOD's that I have experienced: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3488338/bsoddumps.zip System info: Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Dell Studio XPS 435MT Radeon HD 5670 (Version 12.4 of the Catalyst driver) Intel Core i7 920 2.67 GHz 6GB of RAM

  • Java SWT - placing image buttons on the image background

    - by foma
    I am trying to put buttons with images(gif) on the background which has already been set as an image (shell.setBackgroundImage(image)) and I can't figure out how to remove transparent border around buttons with images. I would be grateful if somebody could give me some tip about this issue. Here is my code: import org.eclipse.swt.widgets.*; import org.eclipse.swt.layout.*; import org.eclipse.swt.*; import org.eclipse.swt.graphics.*; public class Main_page { public static void main(String[] args) { Display display = new Display(); Shell shell = new Shell(display); Image image = new Image(display, "bg.gif"); shell.setBackgroundImage(image); shell.setBackgroundMode(SWT.INHERIT_DEFAULT); shell.setFullScreen(true); Button button = new Button(shell, SWT.PUSH); button.setImage(new Image(display, "button.gif")); RowLayout Layout = new RowLayout(); shell.setLayout(Layout); shell.open(); while (!shell.isDisposed()) { if (!display.readAndDispatch()) display.sleep(); } display.dispose(); } } Sorceror, thanks for your answer I will definitely look into this article. Maybe I will find my way. So far I have improved my code a little bit. Firstly, I managed to get rid of the gray background noise. Secondly, I finally succeeded in creating the button as I had seen it in the first place. Yet, another obstacle has arisen. When I removed image(button) transparent border it turned out that the button change its mode(from push button to check box). The problem is that I came so close to the thing I was looking for and now I am a little puzzled. If you have some time please give a glance at my code. Here is the code, if you launch it you will see what the problem is(hope you didn't have problems downloading images): import org.eclipse.swt.widgets.*; import org.eclipse.swt.layout.*; import org.eclipse.swt.*; import org.eclipse.swt.graphics.*; public class Main_page { public static void main(String[] args) { Display display = new Display(); Shell shell = new Shell(display); Image image = new Image(display, "bg.gif"); // Launch on a screen 1280x1024 shell.setBackgroundImage(image); shell.setBackgroundMode(SWT.TRANSPARENT); shell.setFullScreen(true); GridLayout gridLayout = new GridLayout(); gridLayout.marginTop = 200; gridLayout.marginLeft = 20; shell.setLayout(gridLayout); // If you replace SWT.PUSH with SWT.COLOR_TITLE_INACTIVE_BACKGROUND // you will see what I am looking for, despite nasty check box Button button = new Button(shell, SWT.PUSH); button.setImage(new Image(display, "moneyfast.gif")); shell.open(); while (!shell.isDisposed()) { if (!display.readAndDispatch()) display.sleep(); } display.dispose(); }

  • Multiset of shared_ptrs as a dynamic priority queue: Concept and practice

    - by Sarah
I was using a vector-based priority queue typedef std::priority_queue< Event, vector< Event >, std::greater< Event > > EventPQ; to manage my Event objects. Now my simulation has to be able to find and delete certain Event objects not at the top of the queue. I'd like to know if my planned work-around can do what I need it to, and if I have the syntax right. I'd also like to know if dramatically better solutions exist. My plan is to make EventPQ a multiset of smart pointers to Event objects: typedef std::multi_set< boost::shared_ptr< Event > > EventPQ; I'm borrowing functions of the Event class from a related post on a multimap priority queue. // Event.h #include <cstdlib> using namespace std; #include <set> #include <boost/shared_ptr.hpp> class Event; typedef std::multi_set< boost::shared_ptr< Event > > EventPQ; class Event { public: Event( double t, int eid, int hid ); ~Event(); void add( EventPQ& q ); void remove(); bool operator < ( const Event & rhs ) const { return ( time < rhs.time ); } bool operator > ( const Event & rhs ) const { return ( time > rhs.time ); } double time; int eventID; int hostID; EventPQ* mq; EventPQ::iterator mIt; }; // Event.cpp Event::Event( double t, int eid, int hid ) { time = t; eventID = eid; hostID = hid; } Event::~Event() {} void Event::add( EventPQ& q ) { mq = &q; mIt = q.insert( boost::shared_ptr<Event>(this) ); } void Event::remove() { mq.erase( mIt ); mq = 0; mIt = EventPQ::iterator(); } I was hoping that by making EventPQ a container of pointers, I could avoid wasting time copying Events into the container and avoid accidentally editing the wrong copy. Would it be dramatically easier to store the Events themselves in EventPQ instead? Does it make more sense to remove the time keys from Event objects and use them instead as keys in a multimap? Assuming the current implementation seems okay, my questions are: Do I need to specify how to sort on the pointers, rather than the objects, or does the multiset automatically know to sort on the objects pointed to? If I have a shared_ptr ptr1 to an Event that also has a pointer in the EventPQ container, how do I find and delete the corresponding pointer in EventPQ? Is it enough to .find( ptr1 ), or do I instead have to find by the key (time)? Is the Event::remove() sufficient for removing the pointer in the EventPQ container? There's a small chance multiple events could be created with the same time (obviously implied in the use of multiset). If the find() works on event times, to avoid accidentally deleting the wrong event, I was planning to throw in a further check on eventID and hostID. Does this seem reasonable? (Dumb syntax question) In Event.h, is the declaration of dummy class Event;, then the EventPQ typedef, and then the real class Event declaration appropriate? I'm obviously an inexperienced programmer with very spotty background--this isn't for homework. Would love suggestions and explanations. Please let me know if any part of this is confusing. Thanks.

  • Mouse Hang with voltage fluctuation

    - by user265495
I bought a new assembled PC about a month ago, but for the past 7 or 8 days I found my mouse cursor hangs every time there is a voltage fluctuation on my UPS (I guess it as when sound comes from ups then mouse hang for 2 or 3 sec. and them it goes normal again). My PC also seems to shut down while I'm working and it refuses to boot again - I end up needing to switch off my UPS and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. It will then boot as per normal. Could the trouble be with my PSU? Am I potentially damaging my computer by pressing and holding the power button? • How to interpolate rotations?

    - by uhuu
I have two vectors describing rotations; a start rotation A and a target rotation B. How would I best go about interpolating A by a factor F to approach B? Using a simple lerp on the vectors fails to work when more than one dimension needs to be interpolated (i.e. produces undesirable rotations). Maybe building quaternions from the rotation vectors and using slerp is the way to go. But how, then, could I extract a vector describing the new rotation from the resulting quaternion? Thanks in advance.

  • Evaluate a vendor laptop before deployment to user?

    - by NetWarrior
I get numerous requests from executives and users for new smaller laptops for travel purposes. Most of my evaluation is based upon whether or not it can run certain applications. Mainly lotus notes, office, and video. Most of the laptops include windows 7 OS, and are fully loaded with ram, a high-end processor and a integrated graphics card. My boss whats me to document the usefulness of the laptop and performance. I'm just a little confused on how to setup a document that can be used by members of the IT department for future evaluations.

  • O'Reilly book clarification on 2d linear system

    - by Eric
The Oreilly book "Learning openCV" states at page 356 : Quote Before we get totally lost, let’s consider a particular realistic situation of taking measurements on a car driving in a parking lot. We might imagine that the state of the car could be summarized by two position variables, x and y, and two velocities, vx and vy. These four variables would be the elements of the state vector xk. Th is suggests that the correct form for F is: x = [ x; y; vx; vy; ]k F = [ 1, 0, dt, 0; 0, 1, 0, dt; 0, 0, 1, 0; 0, 0, 0, 1; ] It seems natural to put 'dt' just there in the F matrix but I just don't get why. What if I have a n states system, how would I spray some "dt" in the F matrix?

  • Windows 7 RC sleep on Thinkpad R51?

    - by Ragesh
I have an old Thinkpad R51 and Windows 7 just doesn't give me a Sleep option. I suspect it's because it's running the default VGA driver. The machine has an Intel 855 GME graphics adapter but there doesn't seem to be a WDDM driver available publicly. Lenovo's driver download page just says that drivers for Vista are bundled with the OS. Apparently, they aren't bundled with Windows 7 as it always defaults to a generic VGA driver. Is there a reliable way to get Sleep to work on this machine?

  • VM: Windows 7 host, Linux guest, VT-d?

    - by chx
I am sick of the driver issues of Linux. So I am planning to switch to Windows 7 as a host and virtualize my Linux into it. My laptop has integrated Intel graphics and supports VT-d. For speed reasons I would like to assign that card to Linux. Now, Parallels could do it but this page says Note: If you have only one PCIe video adapter, its name will be grayed out in the PCI Devices list and you will not be able to allocate it to your virtual machines. I would be perfectly fine with a headless Windows 7 (I can remotely admin from other computers or just the Linux guest) -- is there any VM software that doesn't have this restriction?

But once it goes to sleep (manually or automatically) and I wake it up later, it wont go back to sleep again and I can't use screen savers either. I updated the chipset and graphics card drivers. My computer isn't part of a homegroup either. Does anyone else have similar issues? Thanks for your advice, per

  • VGA resolution with Sony Bravia TV

    - by prestomation
I just bought Sony Bravia KDL40S5100 tv. The VGA input is acting weird. I have a Gateway desktop with Windows 7 and Intel 945 graphics. I also have a laptop running Ubuntu 9.04. The TV will not display the gateway when the resolution is over 1360x768, I have to wait for it to time out and bring me back. The Intel driver even urges me to switch to the "recommended" 1920x1080. I just installed Win7 using this tv as the monitor. When the orginial welcome screen started after setup, it started me at 1080. I had to start in safemode to set a res that would work! When I plug my laptop into the TV, 1920x1080 works just fine. Any ideas? This laptop also has Win7, which I am going to try, but I haven't gotten a chance yet.

I am not sure if its my GPU / Memory or Hard drive thats failing. For example if I'm runnning more than one instance of chrome and running an application that takes up a lot of resources, my system will start to lag and freeze. When I launch Photoshop the GPU feature disables automatically, this also lags when I click on menus and when working on documents in Photoshop. I really dont know where to start, if i should buy a new graphics card or test the memory or could it be my OS drive? • Container for database-like searches

    - by Milan Babuškov
I'm looking for some STL, boost, or similar container to use the same way indexes are used in databases to search for record using a query like this: select * from table1 where field1 starting with 'X'; or select * from table1 where field1 like 'X%'; I thought about using std::map, but I cannot because I need to search for fields that "start with" some text, and not those that are "equal to". I could create a sorted vector or list and use binary search (breaking the set in 2 in each step by reading the element in the middle and seeing if it's more or less than 'X'), but I wonder if there is some ready-made container I could use without reinventing the wheel?
