I understand that php is easy, I also understand that oracle host is hard to find ($$$ of course), but what do they have against some good open-source, completely free java spring, jsp, django, python, ror, perl etc etc ....   • Is there a template engine for Node.js?

    I'm kind of falling in love with Node.js not because you write app code in javascript but because of its performance. I really don't care a lot about how beautiful a server side language might be but how much requests per second it can handle. So anyway I'm looking forward to experiment building an entire webapp using Node.js (and going back to the actual question) is there a template engine similar to let's say the django template engine or something similar (that at least allows you to extend base templates) available for Node.js?

    I usually see Ruby on Rails books using script/generate model Story name:string link:string which is a singular Story, while when it is controller script/generate controller Stories index then the Story now is Stories, which is plural. Is this a standard on Ruby on Rails? Is it true in other MVC frameworks too, like CakePHP, Symfony, Django, or TurboGears? I see that in the book Rails Space, the controller is also called User, which is the same as the model name, and it is the only exception I see.

    When writing web apps in Python, it brain dead easy to run a development server. Django and Google App Engine both ship with simple servers. The main feature I'm looking for is no configuration. I want something like the GAE dev server where you just pass the directory of the app as a parameter when the server is started. Is there a reason that this is more difficult with PHP?

    I'm using entity framework model first development, and I need to do database migration often, The EF database generation power pack doesn't help a lot, because that data migration never worked here. The database migration here I mean, change the model, and then I can update the existing database from the model, but creating a new one. Is there any free of charge tool here invented here yet? Or would this going to be a new feature of next EF release? PS: I love django's ORM.

    I remember when I was developing in C++ or Java, the compiler usually complains for unused methods, functions or imports. In my Django project, I have a bunch of Python files which have gone through a number of iterations. Some of those files have a few lines of import statement at the top of the page and some of those imports are not used anymore. Is there a way to locate those unused imports besides eyeballing each one of them in each file? All my imports are explicit, I don't usually write from blah import *

    Hi, I have a list and a value and want to check if the value is not in the list. list = [u'first record', u'second record'] value = 'first record' if value not in list: do something however this is not working and I think it has something to do with the list values having a u at the start, how can I fix this? And before someone suggests the list is returned from Django queryset so I can't just take the u out of the code :) Thanks

  • How do I make solr/jetty find the installed slf4j jars in Ubuntu 12.04?

    I'm running Ubuntu 12.04's packaged Jetty in which I installed solr 4.3.1 (by copying the war file to /var/lib/jetty/webapps. When I start Jetty, I get this error: failed SolrRequestFilter: org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: Could not find necessary SLF4j logging jars. If using Jetty, the SLF4j logging jars need to go in the jetty lib/ext directory. The package libslf4j-java is installed, and the jars are in /usr/share/java: /usr/share/java/log4j-over-slf4j.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-api.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-jcl.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-jdk14.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-log4j12.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-migrator.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-nop.jar /usr/share/java/slf4j-simple.jar but somehow, Jetty and/or Solr are not finding them. How do I make them find them? or how do I install some other jars where jetty/solr would find them?     OK, this probably is supposed to be the easiest thing in the world, but I've been trying for the entire day, and it's still not working.. Any help is highly appreciated! What I did: Downloaded Tomcat 6.0.26 & Spring 3.0.1 Downloaded PetClinic from https://src.springframework.org/svn/spring-samples/petclinic Built & deployed petclinic.war. Ran fine with default TopLink persistence. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/spring/applicationContext-jpa.xml and changed jpaVendorAdaptor from TopLink to Hibernate. Edited webapps/WEB-INF/web.xml and changed context-param from applicationContext-jdbc.xml to applicationContext-jpa.xml Copied everything in the Spring 3.0.1 distribution to TOMCAT_HOME/lib. Launched tomcat. Saw Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: ClassLoader [org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader] does NOT provide an 'addTransformer(ClassFileTransformer)' method. Specify a custom LoadTimeWeaver or start your Java virtual machine with Spring's agent: -javaagent:spring-agent.jar Uncommented line <Loader loaderClass="org.springframework.instrument.classloading.tomcat.TomcatInstrumentableClassLoader"/> in webapps/META-INF/context.xml. Same error. Added that line to TOMCAT_HOME/context.xml Deployed without error.   • Delphi - WndProc() in thread never called

    I had code that worked fine when running in the context of the main VCL thread. This code allocated it's own WndProc() in order to handle SendMessage() calls. I am now trying to move it to a background thread because I am concerned that the SendMessage() traffic is affecting the main VCL thread adversely. So I created a worker thread with the sole purpose of allocating the WndProc() in its thread Execute() method to ensure that the WndProc() existed in the thread's execution context. The WndProc() handles the SendMessage() calls as they come in. The problem is that the worker thread's WndProc() method is never triggered. Note, doExecute() is part of a template method that is called by my TThreadExtended class which is a descendant of Delphi's TThread. TThreadExtended implements the thread Execute() method and calls doExecute() in a loop. I triple-checked and doExecute() is being called repeatedly. Also note that I call PeekMessage() right after I create the WndProc() in order to make sure that Windows creates a message queue for the thread. However something I am doing is wrong since the WndProc() method is never triggered.   • How to tell Seam to inject a local EJB interface (SLSB) and not the remote EJB interface (SLSB)?

    Hello, I am using Seam with JBoss AS. In my application I have a SLSB which is also declared as a seam component using the @Name annotation. I am trying to inject and use this SLSB in another seam component using the @In annotation. My problem is that sometimes Seam injects the local interface (then the code runs fine) and sometimes seam injects the remote interface (then there is an error in execution of the code). I have tried doing all the things specified on this link: http://docs.jboss.org/seam/2.2.0.GA/reference/en-US/html/configuration.html#config.integration.ejb.container The SeamInterceptor is configured, I have specified the jndi pattern in components.xml file ( < core:init debug="true" jndi-pattern="earName/#{ejbName}/local"/ ), I have also tried using the @JndiName("earName/ejbName/local") annotation for every SLSB, I have tried setting this property ( org.jboss.seam.core.init.jndiPattern=earName/#{ejbName}/local ) in the seam.properties file. I have also tried putting the text below in web.xml file <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.jndiPattern</param-name> <param-value>earName/#{ejbName}/local</param-value> </context-param> Even after doing all the above mentioned things, the seam still injects the remote interface sometimes. Am I missing something here? Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue and tell seam to always inject the local interface?
