• Paperclip: delete attachments and "can't convert nil into String" error

  I'm using Paperclip and here's what I do in the model to delete attachments: def before_save self.avatar = nil if @delete_avatar == 1.to_s end Works fine unless @delete_avatar flag is set when the user is actually uploading the image (so the model receives both params[:user][:avatar] and params[:user][:delete_avatar]. • Ho to add dynamic table list to a Fullcalendar page

• Getting proper indentation using XMLBuilder in a helper

  I'm attempting to use a view helper to create some dynamic links based on if you're logged in or not. What I want returned, for sake of easy code readability, is: <ul class="right"> <li><a href="#">Login</a></li> <li><a href="#">Register</a></li> </ul> In the view helper I have this Ruby code: def loginh xm = Builder::XmlMarkup.new(:indent=>2, :margin=>4) xm.ul("class" => "right") { xm.li('class' => 'text') { xm.text("test") } } end In the view, the line that calls login helper is already indented 4 levels. Because of this, the first line gets 'skewed', so in the view I have: <%= loginh %> Which results in: <ul class="right"> <li class="text"> <text>test</text> </li> </ul> You can see it works perfectly, except for the first line. It would appear that the first line is affected by the indent before <%= loginh % is called. I can easily remedy this by removing the indentation prior to <%= loginh % - but in essence I'd be sacrificing code readability for markup readability. Which isn't what I'm looking to do. Is there any way I could remove the beginning whitespace?

All emails will come to a single address (this can't change unfortunately), and I need to be able to determine where they go. My initial thought was setting the message-id for the item so that it comes back as a References header. any ideas on how to accomplish this with ActionMailer?

  How can I get rid of validation messages telling me that: Login is too short (minimum is 3 characters) Login should use only letters, numbers, spaces, and .-_@ please. Password is too short (minimum is 4 characters) Password confirmation is too short (minimum is 4 characters) this happens even before map_openid_registration is called, thus not giving me any chance to fill login with something from returned registration Hash. I would like to have OpenID auto-registration (on login) without requiring user to supply login/password. I also won't make this fields "not required" or "not validated", since I still need them with old school login/password registration. Thank you

• Heroku deployment: connection refused

  I have suddenly run into an issue deploying to Heroku. I created a new app, went to push and now see: ssh: connect to host heroku.com port 22: Connection refused My other previously working Heroku apps no longer work, receiving the same error. Other Heroku commands work (create, info, db:push). I can SSH to other services, so it doesn't look like it's my machine. Any ideas?

Required features: both GET and POST requests gzip/deflate downloads (Accept-Encoding: deflate, gzip) - very important I am thinking between: open-uri Net::HTTP curb but you can also come with other suggestions. P.S. To parse the response, I am using a pull parser from Nokogiri, so I don't need an integrated solution like rest-client or hpricot.

  I have an association of a Admin - Account in factory girl I now wish to associate a second user with the same account but am unable to do so. I build my Admin-Account association like this u.account { |account| account.association(:account)} This works fine and creates the Account and Admin association. Im looking for a way to setup a second user who's account also points to the record created in the Admin factory association. I currently just build the second user as such @user = Factory.build(:seconduser) @user.account = Account.first @user.save! Which works but seems somewhat hacky .

I want to make an Alias so I can get the same resources but with the "truck" word, I tried with: map.trucks '/trucks', :controller => :vehicles, :action => :index, :is_truck => true map.trucks '/trucks/by_supplier/:supplier', :controller => :vehicles, :action => :index, :is_truck => true The first one works well, but when I search within a Form the second doesn't work and searches all suppliers. • Updating multiple divs w/ RJS/AJAX

  I am successfully using RJS to implement AJAX on a page.replace.html create.js.rjs. I am attempting to update two locations instead of one and after watching Ryan Bates Railscast I am very close (I think) but have a problem in the syntax of my /views/likes/create.js.rjs file. Here is the situation: located at /views/likes/create.js.rjs is the following code: page.replace_html "votes_#{ @site.id }", :partial => @like page.replace_html "counter", 10 - (@question.likes.count :conditions => {:user_id => current_user.id}) page[@like].visual_effect :highlight My problem lies in the second line. The div "counter" displays the following code in the /views/question/show.html.erb page: <div id="counter"> You have <%= 10 - (@question.likes.count :conditions => {:user_id => current_user.id}) %> votes remaining for this question </div> From watching the screen cast I believe that my error has to do w/ the syntax of the second line. Specifically he mentions that you cannot use a local instance variable but not sure how to make the change. Thoughts?

Any idea what's going? I can get the migration to run if I comment the set_inheritance_column in the Fruit model, then uncomment it after I run the migration. Obviously, I don't want to do this, however.

  I am implementing a simple RoR webpage that collect emails from visitors and store them as objects. I'm using it as a mini-project to try RoR and BDD. I can think of 3 features for Cucumber: 1. User submits a valid email address 2. User submits an existing email address 3. User submits an invalid email My question is, for scenarios 2 and 3, is it better to handle this via the controller? or as methods in a class? Perhaps something that throws errors if an instance is instantiated in sceanrio 2 or 3? Implementation is below, love to hear some code reviews in addition to answers to questions above. Thanks! • not getting a page reload when submitting a form on a page

  When showing a project, the user can add a decision via a form_for and its partial. Is there some way of avoiding reloading the page and just creating the record silently? In the controller method (adddecision) I have: respond_to do |format| if @decision.save format.html { redirect_to(@project) } format.xml { head :ok } else format.html { render :action => "show" } format.xml { render :xml => decision.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end I've tried redirect_to(:back) etc - still getting a page reload.
