With windows and sql server accounts, I can access the logged in user with functions like: user_name() or suser_sname().
Can I access the user that is logged into asp.net in the same way?
The MSDN documentation for using an asynchronous controller mentions choosing an asynchronous controller when you want to provide a way for users to cancel requests.
I couldn't find any documentation related to actually allowing users to cancel asynchronous requests, however. Is there a way to indicate to ASP.Net and/or the MVC framework that a request should be canceled?
Hi everybody,
I need to write an asp.net application which have to handle very large amount of data per second. Probably max5000 user may transact in same time. I think I will use WCF in back to communicate SQL server. But in front ISS can handle 5000 user in same time effectively or is there any simple way to host my application outside of IIS
I have a Asp.net web service running on www.domain.com/Service.svc that I connect to using jQuery from my asp.net website. Everything works perfect if the user access my website with www.domain.com. But if the user uses only domain.com I get error:
There was no channel actively listening at 'http://domain.com/Service.svc/get?date=2010-10-09'.
This is often caused by an incorrect address URI. Ensure that the address to which
the message is sent matches an address on which a service is listening.
In my web.config I use the serviceHostingEnvironment tag to get the service running on my webhost (it doesn't work otherwise). Maybe this is what causes the error?
Here is my system.serviceModel in web.config (I had some problems setting up the web service so that's why my web.config might be a bit messy:
<system.serviceModel>
<behaviors>
<endpointBehaviors>
<behavior name="ServiceAspNetAjaxBehavior">
<enableWebScript />
</behavior>
</endpointBehaviors>
<serviceBehaviors>
<behavior name="ServiceBehavior">
<serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="true" />
</behavior>
</serviceBehaviors>
</behaviors>
<serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true">
<baseAddressPrefixFilters>
<add prefix="http://www.domain.com"/>
</baseAddressPrefixFilters>
</serviceHostingEnvironment>
<services>
<service behaviorConfiguration="ServiceBehavior" name="Service">
<endpoint address="" behaviorConfiguration="ServiceAspNetAjaxBehavior"
binding="webHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="ServiceBinding" contract="Service" />
</service>
</services>
<bindings>
<webHttpBinding>
<binding name="ServiceBinding" maxBufferPoolSize="1000000" maxReceivedMessageSize="1000000">
<readerQuotas maxDepth="1000000" maxStringContentLength="1000000"
maxArrayLength="1000000" maxBytesPerRead="1000000" maxNameTableCharCount="1000000" />
</binding>
</webHttpBinding>
</bindings>
</system.serviceModel>
How can I make it possible for my users to access my webservice also when using only domain.com?
Hi,
does anyone have any idea how I can get started building a search engine for my asp.net mvc site using entity framework. I plan to build something like: http://www.carsguide.com.au/search/?N=4294962119++492&type=cars
there on the left there is a refine search option panel.
What's the best approach to design a model for the UI and optimized query with entity framework.
Is it possible for an user control (ascx) to doing something like herit from a MasterPage ?
My point is, in one of my user control (only use by one kind of MasterPage), I would like to use an <asp:content> tag, but I can't, I can only in the page that use that user control...
So, I have to repeat some code into each of the page that use that user control...
What are your opinions on using web controls in an MVC context?
I came across a good discussion here http://odetocode.com/Blogs/scott/archive/2009/04/09/asp-net-mvc-controls-and-good-versus-evil.aspx but would like to know what the community thinks.

What would be best practice to localize your ASP .Net MVC application ?
I would like to cover two situations:
one application deployment in IIS which would handle multiple languages
one language / application deployment.
In first situation should you go with somekind of view based thing like, ~/View/EN, ~/View/FI, ~/View/SWE or something different ?
What about second case, just application based config via Web.config and point these different languages to different urls ?
Using the asp.net file upload control is very easy, i'm trying to squeeze it into my site and the dam thing is very ugly!. Can I not change the browse button to an image of my choosing ?
So far i'm failing to achieve this seemingly simple goal. Any ideas on this one ?
Thanks
Hi Team,
I am using a dropdown list in ASP.NET with C#.
I am trying to bind a dictionary to the dropdownlist.
How can we specify the "Text" (key of dictionary as Text of drop down) and "value" (value as Value) for the dropdown?
Could you please help?
Note: There is a constraint that a class should not be introduced for this purpose. That is why I am trying to use a dictionary.
Thanks
Lijo
Why isn't this working?
<ajaxToolkit:TabPanel Enabled='<%# User.IsInRole("admin") %>'...
While this works:
<asp:TextBox Enabled='<%# User.IsInRole("admin") %>'...
Hi All
There is Role Management feature in ASP.NET
It works on local development machine.
For our project we need customers admin to be able to create new users and manage their roles.
So, basically same what aspnet_regsql.exe does.
Question is
Should we develop our own pages and forms or use some ready made tool?
Thanks!
Hello
I have a "service-layer" in my application that handles some logic that uses a "data-layer" that has dataannotations and uses a resource-file with "error-messages" in different languages.
How should I implement it in my asp.net mvc application that needs to display some message if a login fails, or if firstname is missing etc?
/M
Hi, I'm trying to accomplish something like this (http://picturegroup.com) , where you have images displayed in several columns, but as you resize your browser, columns will (dis)appear so to fit what you can see on the screen.
Any ideas on how can I do this (links, etc)?
Thanks!
PS: Bear in mind that I'm quite a ASP.Net noob

I'm trying to convert a game I made (WindowsFormApplication) to an ASP Page.
My Problem is that I have a lot "private" variables in my WindowFormApplication and those variables are important for the game. But when after I Declare all my variables (in my Page_Load), they turn null no matter what I do(click a button, refresh the page).
Is there anyway to save my variables between buttons (other than Session, because I'd have to create like 6 more sessions)
I have an ASP.NET linkbutton control on my form. I would like to use it for javascript on the client side and prevent it from posting back to the server. (I'd like to use the linkbutton control so I can skin it and disable it in some cases, so a straight up tag is not preferred).
How do I prevent it from posting back to the server?
How does one be called a ninja ASP.Net programmer?
What set of tools and immediate knowledge(Without having to open MSDN, SO, or Google) should be known to be considered a master?
Webforms or MVC...
I want to put an unique image (1x1) on an e-mail marketing (not spam) of my client. Just like www.spypig.com, I'd like to use it to know how many people have actually read the e-mail. I guess I'll have to check how many times this unique image has been accessed, but I can't figure out how to do it.
So my question is: Is there a way to check how many times an image file was accessed using ASP.NET/C#?
Thank you
