I'm using a Mac.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for muting the mic during a call?
I can't find one, and I often need to toggle mute/unmute.
Clicking the button on the Skype interface is very inconvenient :(
We are evaluating the Cisco SA 500 router for our new office router. Would anyone recommend another similarly-featured router from another manufacturer?
Requirements:
- Office of 14 people
- We are likely to switch to 14 VOIP phones (Linksys SPA-942) soon
- We want to use VPN on the router, if possible, with Windows and Mac users
On Mac machines the user can schedule the machine to power-on automatically, is there anything for Linux that gives us the same ability? I can schedule shut downs whenever I want, it's powering up that I want to do.
I have a Mac Mini running videos on loop to display publicly, which occasionally crashes I think generally when other OSX functions kicking in. I have a script to detect when VLC is not running and reboot it, but there is often a system message on top "VLC crashed previously". Is there a way to disable this (I can find no option in VLC's advanced options), or perhaps to feed a 'Continue' response to it via Applescript?
In the beta version of Chrome on the Mac Backspace is not working as 'back' as in virtually any other browser. It just does nothing. Is there a way to activate that or is that a known but still unresolved bug?
Active desktop for Windows 7 (Vista)?
Does anyone know how to install it on Windows 7\Vista?
Has anyone seen analogs? Is there such thing for mac\Linux?
Has anyone just seen any browser which can work under icons of desktop?

A friend of mine says that a site I frequent was reported by his antivirus software to be infected with a trojan. I can't confirm this because I'm on a Mac, and he's running PC so nothing happens on my end.
I'm wondering if there's a web site that I could use to check the site for infection or malicious script.
I recently noticed that when downloading an application, Safari doesn't give the warning it used to. I have deleted the .plist file with no change. Using Mac OS X 10.5.8, Safari 4.0.4. Any ideas why and how to re-enable?
In the PowerPoint slider sorter view, is there a way to set the zoom level larger than 100%? On PowerPoint for Mac this slider goes to much higher values, essentially allowing zoom all the way in to a single slide, but on the Windows version (depending on screen resolution and slide dimensions) the maximum zoom is often several slides wide.
Evidently it's possible to achieve a similar affect by changing the page size, but is there some sort of preferences hack that will change the maximum value of this slider?
It is always suggested on first step to disable the remote root login for the SSH protocol.
I have a low-right user able to connect via SSH and once connected, I simply su in order to gain more rights.
Now when using a sFTP client, I use my low-right user and am thus able to do next to nothing.
My question is : Is it possible to change user after login using 3rd party client, such as Transmit, Cyberduck, Filezilla ?
PS : Mac clients would be great ;)
I am relatively new to the mac, and other than writing python scripts I can't figure out how to automate certain tasks like I would have in windows with a batch file.
Pointers and links to documentation would be appreciated.
I'd like to change the keyboard mapping from command-line (Terminal) in Mac OS X Lion (10.7).
I can manually set it (System Preferences - Language & Text - Input Sources), and there's a nice option that lets me use different input sources for different documents, but I'd like to bind it to a key under zsh to easily swap between Qwerty and Dvorak layouts (I'm learning Dvorak, and having the option to switch easily would be sensational).
I am trying to sync my (Mac) desktop, with an iPad and an iPhone. OSX mounts WebDAV as a native filesystem, but syncing results in all files in my directory structure being copied again. This occurs when I use rsync -a or even a simple rsync -r. Various iPhone OS apps use the WebDAV server in iPhone OSX to transfer files. This occurs on several apps I use including GoodReader.
Mac and Windows Vista have such pretty user interfaces with all the transparencies and stuff. Is there anything for Ubuntu Linux to improve the way it looks?
At work I use logmein.com to do remote support to many users.
When I do this on my Ubuntu box, it connects, but then it reloads the page on every mouse click or event. How do I make this work more like using logmein.com while on Mac or Windows.
Thanks.
Using Ubuntu 10.04 64bit.
I've got Chrome running on my Linux netbook, it's great and, unlike the Mac version, the 'Create Application Shortcut' option isn't greyed out.
So I created one for Gmail. The 'applications' get stored at ~/.local/share/applications but I haven't managed to launch it yet.
If I use Chrome in terminal
$ google-chrome ~/.local/share/applications/google-application-reallylong-randomname.thing
It opens the file in a new tab in Chrome and helpfully downloads it for me!

How do you install any visualizer other than the default visualizer that ships with iTunes 10 in Windows 7. I've tried placing qtz files in my C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins folder and restarting iTunes, but of course no other visualizers can be selected.
Common visualizers that I would like to install include those found here
I'm of course aware that some of these are Mac OS only due to library dependencies - I would still like to know if it's possible to install any visualizer other than the default for iTunes in Windows 7
Is it possible to setup a printer equivalent to the Windows 'generic ascii text-only printer' in Mac OS X.
I cannot find anything about it within the current cups drivers docs. But I think there has been one in the early days, isn't it?
The goal is to print to a file with generic ascii only.
Is it possible to simulate a MAC feature which shows the list of active windows when we move the mouse sideways ?

I've just installed Ubuntu 9.10 Edition in VMWare Fusion; the host is Mac OS X. I installed it successfully and I was even able to use. After shutting it down and reopening it, it no longer works. Here's what I see:
I've checked the Virtual Machine settings. It appears as running. I waited for a long time, but there no response yet. Is there anything I can do apart from reinstalling it?
I'm on vacation and need to run a GUI program on my Mac at home. I can get to a console through SSH, but otherwise the machine is behind a firewall. How can I...
Enable VNC from the command line
Tunnel that through SSH to my MacBook
Thanks!
I'd Like to set up two different websites on one IP address using two different servers. Right now we are using Apache for our one Mac Server and it forwards correctly both to the pyhsical IP address as well as the domain. We'd like to add another domain to a new computer also running Leopard + Apache
