  Given a model structure like this: class Book(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User) class Readingdate(models.Model): book = models.ForeignKey(Book) date = models.DateField() One book may have several readingdates. How do I list books having at least one readingdate within a specific year? I can do this: from_date = datetime.date(2010,1,1) to_date = datetime.date(2010,12,31) book_ids = Readingdate.objects\ .filter(date__range=(from_date,to_date))\ .values_list('book_id', flat=True) books_read_2010 = Book.objects.filter(id__in=book_ids) Is it possible to do this with one queryset, or is this the best way?

• Dependency Properties, change notification and setting values in the constructor

  Hello, I have a clas with 3 dependency properties A,B,C. The values of these properties are set by the constructor and every time one of the properties A, B or C changes, the method recalculate() is called. Now during execution of the constructor these method is called 3 times, because the 3 properties A, B, C are changed. Hoewever this isn't necessary as the method recalculate() can't do anything really useful without all 3 properties set. So what's the best way for property change notification but circumventing this change notification in the constructor? I thought about adding the property changed notification in the constructor, but then each object of the DPChangeSample class would always add more and more change notifications. • Rails each loop insert tag every 6 items?

  Hello Stack Anon, I have X number of image objects that I need to loop through in a view and want to create a new div every 6 objects or so (for a gallery). I have looked at cycle but it seems to change every other record. Does anyone know of a way to insert code into a view every 6 times? I could probably do it with nested loops but I am kinda stumped on this one. Thanks!

For example, class foo's constructor wants an array of size 3, so I want to call foo( { 0, 0, 0 } ). I've tried this, and it does not work. I'd like to be able to initialize objects of type foo in other objects' constructor initialization lists. Is this possible?

• [N]Hibernate: view-like fetching properties of associated class

  (Felt quite helpless in formulating an appropriate title...) In my C# app I display a list of "A" objects, along with some properties of their associated "B" objects and properties of B's associated "C" objects: A.Name B.Name B.SomeValue C.Name Foo Bar 123 HelloWorld Bar Hello 432 World ... To clarify: A has an FK to B, B has an FK to C. (Such as, e.g. BankAccount - Person - Company). I have tried two approaches to load these properties from the database (using NHibernate): A fast approach and a clean approach. My eventual question is how to do a fast & clean approach. Fast approach: Define a view in the database which joins A, B, C and provides all these fields. In the A class, define properties "BName", "BSomeValue", "CName" Define a hibernate mapping between A and the View, whereas the needed B and C properties are mapped with update="false" insert="false" and do actually stem from B and C tables, but Hibernate is not aware of that since it uses the view. This way, the listing only loads one object per "A" record, which is quite fast. If the code tries to access the actual associated property, "A.B", I issue another HQL query to get B, set the property and update the faked BName and BSomeValue properties as well. Clean approach: There is no view. Class A is mapped to table A, B to B, C to C. When loading the list of A, I do a double left-join-fetch to get B and C as well: from A a left join fetch a.B left join fetch a.B.C B.Name, B.SomeValue and C.Name are accessed through the eagerly loaded associations. The disadvantage of this approach is that it gets slower and takes more memory, since it needs to created and map 3 objects per "A" record: An A, B, and C object each. Fast and clean approach: I feel somehow uncomfortable using a database view that hides a join and treat that in NHibernate as if it was a table. So I would like to do something like: Have no views in the database. Declare properties "BName", "BSomeValue", "CName" in class "A". Define the mapping for A such that NHibernate fetches A and these properties together using a join SQL query as a database view would do. The mapping should still allow for defining lazy many-to-one associations for getting A.B.C My questions: Is this possible? Is it [un]artful? Is there a better way?

  I am implementing a design where my layer would sit between client and server, and whatever objects i get from server, i would wrap it in a transparent proxy and give to the client, that way i can keep a track of what changed in the object, so when saving it back, i would only send changed information. I looked at castle dynamic proxy, linfu, although they can generate a proxy type, but they cant take existing objects and wrap them instead. • Reference a GNU C DLL built in GCC against Cygwin, from C#/NET

  Here is what I want: I have a huge legacy C/C++ codebase written for POSIX, including some very POSIX specific stuff like pthreads. This can be compiled on Cygwin/GCC and run as an executable under Windows with the Cygwin DLL. What I would like to do is build the codebase itself into a Windows DLL that I can then reference from C# and write a wrapper around it to access some parts of it programatically. I've included some background notes on exceptions, skip this if you want, but please take a moment to read the questions and respond to them. Thanks. Background on Perl Exceptions Perl has a very basic built-in exception system that provides a spring-board for more sophisticated usage. For example die "I ate a bug.\n"; throws an exception with a string assigned to $@. You can also throw an object, instead of a string: die BadBug->new('I ate a bug.'); You can even install a signal handler to catch the SIGDIE psuedo-signal. Here's a handler that rethrows exceptions as objects if they aren't already. $SIG{__DIE__} = sub { my $e = shift; $e = ExceptionObject->new( $e ) unless blessed $e; die $e; } This pattern is used in a number of CPAN modules. but perlvar says: Due to an implementation glitch, the $SIG{DIE} hook is called even inside an eval(). Do not use this to rewrite a pending exception in $@ , or as a bizarre substitute for overriding CORE::GLOBAL::die() . This strange action at a distance may be fixed in a future release so that $SIG{DIE} is only called if your program is about to exit, as was the original intent. Any other use is deprecated. So now I wonder if objectifying exceptions in sigdie is evil. The Questions Do you use exception objects? If so, which one and why? If not, why not? If you don't use exception objects, what would entice you to use them? If you do use exception objects, what do you hate about them, and what could be better? Is objectifying exceptions in the DIE handler a bad idea? Where should I objectify my exceptions? In my eval{} wrapper? In a sigdie handler? Are there any papers, articles or other resources on exceptions in general and in Perl that you find useful or enlightening.

  I am trying to call an asmx web service from an Android app. Just literally started some Android development today. I've been following various solutions I have found on the net and on here and it seems it is more difficult than anticipated. I have tried various solutions and using KSoap2 seems to be the easiest way to implement this, well it would be if I could get it working. After this operation self.currentMessages contains 0 objects. Why is the copy not working?

And also make sure to close the EMF once it's used (?) • Django context processor gets AnonymousUser

  instead of User. def myview(request): return render_to_response('tmpl.html', {'user': User.objects.get(id=1}) works fine and passes User to template. But def myview(request): return render_to_response('tmpl.html', {}, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) with a context processor def user(request): from django.contrib.auth.models import User return {'user': User.objects.get(id=1)} passes AnonymousUser, so I can't get the variables I need :( What's wrong?
