  • Consuming a PHP SOAP WebService with ASP.NET

    - by Jamie
    I'm having some major issues trying to consume my PHP SOAP webservice using ASP.NET. The webservice in question is based on the PHP SOAP extension and is descibed by the following WSDL: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> <definitions name="MyServices" targetNamespace="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services" xmlns:tns="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services" xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsd1="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services" xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/" xmlns="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/"> <types> <schema targetNamespace="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <complexType name="ServiceType"> <all> <element name="id" type="xsd:int" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" /> <element name="name" type="xsd:string" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" /> <element name="cost" type="xsd:float" minOccurs="1" maxOccurs="1" /> </all> </complexType> <complexType name="ArrayOfServiceType"> <all> <element name="Services" type="ServiceType" minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" /> </all> </complexType> </schema> </types> <message name="getServicesRequest"> <part name="postcode" type="xsd:string" /> </message> <message name="getServicesResponse"> <part name="Result" type="xsd1:ArrayOfServiceType"/> </message> <portType name="ServicesPortType"> <operation name="getServices"> <input message="tns:getServicesRequest"/> <output message="tns:getServicesResponse"/> </operation> </portType> <binding name="ServicesBinding" type="tns:ServicesPortType"> <soap:binding style="document" transport="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/http"/> <operation name="getServices"> <soap:operation soapAction="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services/getServices" /> <input> <soap:body use="encoded" namespace="urn:my:services" encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" /> </input> <output> <soap:body use="encoded" namespace="urn:my:services" encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" /> </output> </operation> </binding> <service name="MyServices"> <port name="ServicesPort" binding="tns:ServicesBinding"> <soap:address location="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services"/> </port> </service> </definitions> I can successfully generate a proxy class from this WSDL in Visual Studio, but upon trying to invoke the getServices method I am presented with an exception: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHeaderException: Procedure 'string' not present After inspecting the raw post data at the SOAP server end, my PHP SOAP client is making requests like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:SOAP-ENC="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"> <SOAP-ENV:Body> <postcode xsi:type="xsd:string">ln4 4nq</postcode> </SOAP-ENV:Body> </SOAP-ENV:Envelope> Whereas the .Net proxy class is doing this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:soapenc="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:tns="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services" xmlns:types="http://mydomain.com/api/soap/v11/services/encodedTypes" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <soap:Body soap:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/"> <xsd:string xsi:type="xsd:string">LN4 4NQ</xsd:string> </soap:Body> </soap:Envelope> I can only assume the difference in the way the postcode parameter is being sent is where the problem lies, but as primarily a PHP developer I'm at a loss as to what's occuring here. I have a feeling I'm simply missing something vital in my WSDL as I've seen countless examples of 'Consuming PHP SOAP WebServices with .Net' which appear to suggest that it 'just works'. Any suggestion as to where i've slipped up here would be greatly appreciated. I've currently spent almost an entire day on this now ;-) Thanks in advance, Jamie

  • .NET Webservice Client: Auto-retry upon call failure

    - by Yon
Hi, We have a .NET client calling a Java webservice using SSL. Sometimes the call fails due to poor connectivity (the .NET Client is a UI that is used from the weirdest locations). We would like to implement an automatic retry mechanism that will automatically retry a failed call X times before giving up. This should be done solely with specific types of connectivity exceptions (and not for exceptions generated by the web service itself). We tried to find how to do it on the Binding/Channel level, but failed... any ideas? Thanks, yonadav

  • how to handle exceptions in ejb 3 based soap webservice

    - by Alexandre GUIDET
Hi, I am currently developing an EJB3 based SOAP webservice and I wonder what are the best practices to handles uncatched exceptions and return a well formated SOAP response to the client. example: @WebMethod public SomeResponse processSomeService( @WebParam(name = "someParameters") SomeParameters someParameters) { // the EJB do something with the parameters // and retrieve a response fot the client SomeResponse theResponse = this.doSomething(someParameters); return theResponse; } Do I have to catch generic exception like: @WebMethod public SomeResponse processSomeService( @WebParam(name = "someParameters") SomeParameters someParameters) { // the EJB do something with the parameters // and retrieve a response to return to the client try { SomeResponse theResponse = this.doSomething(someParameters); } catch (Exception ex) { // log the exception logger.log(Level.SEVERE, "something is going wrong {0}", ex.getMessage()); // get a generic error response not to let the // technical reason going to the client SomeResponse theResponse = SomeResponse.createError(); } return theResponse; } Is there some kind of "best practice" in order to achieve this ? Thank you

  • Deploying an HttpHandler web service

    - by baron
I am trying to build a webservice that manipulates http requests POST and GET. Here is a sample: public class CodebookHttpHandler: IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { if (context.Request.HttpMethod == "POST") { //DoHttpPostLogic(); } else if (context.Request.HttpMethod == "GET") { //DoHttpGetLogic(); } } ... public void DoHttpPostLogic() { ... } public void DoHttpGetLogic() { ... } I need to deploy this but I am struggling how to start. Most online references show making a website, but really, all I want to do is respond when an HttpPost is sent. I don't know what to put in the website, just want that code to run. Edit: I am following this site as its exactly what I'm trying to do. I have the website set up, I have the code for the handler in a .cs file, i have edited the web.config to add the handler for the file extension I need. Now I am at the step 3 where you tell IIS about this extension and map it to ASP.NET. Also I am using IIS 7 so interface is slightly different than the screenshots. This is the problem I have: 1) Go to website 2) Go to handler mappings 3) Go Add Script Map 4) request path - put the extension I want to handle 5) Executable- it seems i am told to set aspnet_isapi.dll here. Maybe this is incorrect? 6) Give name 7) Hit OK button: Add Script Map Do you want to allow this ISAPI extension? Click "Yes" to add the extension with an "Allowed" entry to the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions list or to update an existing extension entry to "Allowed" in the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions list. Yes No Cancel 8) Hit Yes Add Script Map The specified module required by this handler is not in the modules list. If you are adding a script map handler mapping, the IsapiModule or the CgiModule must be in the modules list. OK edit 2: Have just figured out that that managed handler had something to do with handlers witten in managed code, script map was to help configuring an executable and module mapping to work with http Modules. So I should be using option 1 - Add Managed Handler. See: http://yfrog.com/11managedhandlerp I know what my request path is for the file extension... and I know name (can call it whatever I like), so it must be the Type field I am struggling with. In the applications folder (in IIS) so far I just have the MyHandler.cs and web.config (Of course also a file with the extension I am trying to create the handler for!) edit3: progress So now I have the code and the web.config set up I test to see If I can browse to the filename.CustomExtension file: HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. So in IIS7 I go to Handler Mappings and add it in. See this MSDN example, it is exactly what I am trying to follow The class looks like this: using System.Web; namespace HandlerAttempt2 { public class MyHandler : IHttpHandler { public MyHandler() { //TODO: Add constructor logic here } public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { var objResponse = context.Response; objResponse.Write("<html><body><h1>It just worked"); objResponse.Write("</body></html>"); } public bool IsReusable { get { return true; } } } } I add the Handler in as follows: Request path: *.whatever Type: MyHandler (class name - this appears correct as per example!) Name: whatever Try to browse to the custom file again (this is in app pool as Integrated): HTTP Error 500.21 - Internal Server Error Handler "whatever" has a bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list Try to browse to the custom file again (this is in app pool as CLASSIC): HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler.

  • How can I read this IIS error log?

    - by Victor Rodrigues
I'm using Debug Diagnostic Tool, trying to understand why around 5% of the requests that are sent to my webservice just crash, without necessarily throw any error inside my application. One of the errors this tool took is below. Can anyone here understand exactly what could be happening? Thanks! • My webservice works with soapclient.com but not with soapsonar software:

    - by Rebol Tutorial
I have put a webservice I found here http://www.rebolforces.com/zine/rzine-1-02/#sect6. on my own website. I tested http://reboltutorial.com/discordian.wsdl with http://www.soapclient.com/soaptest.html it did work as I got this answer Sweetmorn, Discord 48, Year of Our Lady of Discord 3176 But doing the same thing with soapsonar gives me this response instead: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN"> <html><head> <title>301 Moved Permanently</title> </head><body> <h1>Moved Permanently</h1> <p>The document has moved <a href="http://reboltutorial.com/cgi-bin/discordian.cgi">here</a>.</p> </body></html> Is soapsonar buggy or did I mischief something ?

  • Iserializable to serialize readonly methods to be sent through webservice

    I am sending an object through a webservice with readonly methods. I am using the Iserializable interface, assuming that I would no longer need a parameterless constructor. This is not true and I still cannot send my object over the wire. public class Foo: ISerializable { public boolean IsBusy { get; private set;} protected Foo(SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context) { this.IsBusy = info.GetBoolean("IsBusy"); } void ISerializable.GetObjectData(SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context) { .AddValue("IsBusy", this.IsBusy); }

  • What does this IIS error log mean?

    - by Victor Rodrigues
I'm using Debug Diagnostic Tool, trying to understand why around 5% of the requests that are sent to my webservice just crash, without necessarily throw any error inside my application. One of the errors this tool took is below. Can anyone here understand exactly what could be happening? Thanks! • Making of JSON Webservice using C# .NET

    - by Parth_90
I am trying to make JSON webservice in C# .NET. A json string is returning by web method but it contains xml structure like: <string xmlns="http://tempuri.org/"> {"checkrecord":[{"rollno":"abc2","percentage":40,"attended":12,"missed":34}],"Table1":[]} </string> I saw this article before it wasn't much helpful for me. So my problem is, that json string is not returned in its pure format. I do not want that xml version and xmlns string. I plan to consume the web service on Android later. Can anyone help me? Thanks

  • SOAP: JWSDP Webservice and Axis2 Client?

    - by Sophomore
Just a plain simple question to which I could'nt find a straight answer... I'm building a SOAP webservice which is supposed to deliver some data to a client. (Actually it's RDF parsed/stripped to XML)... I'd like to use JWSDP which will generate WDSL specification. Are there any downfalls when the client is using axis2 instead of JWSDP? My intention was, that this shouldn't matter, as this is what WSDL is meant for, but I wanted to check before there arise any incompatibilities or problems...

  • iphone web service access

    - by malleswar
Hi, I have .net webservice methods login and summary. After getting the result from login, I need to show second view and need to call summary method. I am following this tutorial. http://icodeblog.com/2008/11/03/iphone-programming-tutorial-intro-to-soap-web-services/ I created two new classes loginaccess.h and loginaccess.m. @implementation LoginAccess @synthesize ResultString, webData, soapResults, xmlParser; -(NSString*)LoginCheck:(NSString*)userName:(NSString*)pwd { NSString *soapMessage = [NSString stringWithFormat: @"\n" "\n" "\n" "\n" "%@" "%@" "" "\n" "\n",userName,pwd ]; NSLog(soapMessage); NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.XXXXXXXXX.com/service.asmx"]; NSMutableURLRequest *theRequest = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; NSString *msgLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [soapMessage length]]; [theRequest addValue: @"text/xml; charset=utf-8" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"]; [theRequest addValue: @"http://XXXXXXXXm/Login" forHTTPHeaderField:@"SOAPAction"]; [theRequest addValue: msgLength forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"]; [theRequest setHTTPMethod:@"POST"]; [theRequest setHTTPBody: [soapMessage dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; NSURLConnection *theConnection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:theRequest delegate:self]; if( theConnection ) { webData = [[NSMutableData data] retain]; } else { NSLog(@"theConnection is NULL"); } //[nameInput resignFirstResponder]; return ResultString; } -(void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *)response { [webData setLength: 0]; } -(void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didReceiveData:(NSData *)data { [webData appendData:data]; } -(void)connection:(NSURLConnection *)connection didFailWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"ERROR with theConenction"); [connection release]; [webData release]; } -(void)connectionDidFinishLoading:(NSURLConnection *)connection { NSLog(@"DONE. Received Bytes: %d", [webData length]); NSString *theXML = [[NSString alloc] initWithBytes: [webData mutableBytes] length:[webData length] encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; NSLog(theXML); [theXML release]; if( xmlParser ) { [xmlParser release]; } xmlParser = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithData: webData]; [xmlParser setDelegate: self]; [xmlParser setShouldResolveExternalEntities: YES]; [xmlParser parse]; [connection release]; [webData release]; } -(void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *) namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName attributes: (NSDictionary *)attributeDict { if( [elementName isEqualToString:@"LoginResult"]) { if(!soapResults) { soapResults = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; } recordResults = TRUE; } } -(void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string { if( recordResults ) { [soapResults appendString: string]; } } -(void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName { if( [elementName isEqualToString:@"LoginResult"]) { recordResults = FALSE; ResultString = soapResults; NSLog(@"Login"); [VariableStore setStr:ResultString]; NSLog(soapResults); [soapResults release]; soapResults = nil; } } @end I am calling LoginCheck method and based on result I want to show the second view. Here after finishing of the button touch down event, it enter into did end element, so I am always getting nil value. If I use the same code controller it works fine as I push second view controller in didendelement. Please give me some samples to place the web service calls in differnt class and how to call them in viewcontrollers. Regards, Malleswar

  • Java Webservice with generic methods

    - by danby
Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to make a generic webservice method in java like this: @WebMethod public <T extends Foo> void testGeneric(T data){ However when I try to consume this with a Java client I get an error stating: [ERROR] Schema descriptor {http://####/}testGeneric in message part "parameters" is not defined and could not be bound to Java. I know it is possible to make a method that takes a parameter such as List and this generates correctly using JAX-WS. I don't mind if there is a solution that means I am tied to using only a particular technology. Thanks, Dan.

  • Launching an Activity from a Service

    - by nldev
    When I am trying to launch a call activity from a Service, I get a NullPointerException. Here is my code: Intent callIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL); callIntent.setData(Uri.parse("tel:" + number)); callIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); startActivity(callIntent); I get the exception on the startActivity line. I tried to use getApplication.startActivity and getApplicationContext.startActivity but no luck. Any ideas? edit : Maybe some usefull info: I am trying to create a service that will run on the background and scan sensor data, when a certain signal is given i would like to maken an automated call to a number. edit : full adb error code: 03-31 09:04:10.214: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to instantiate service dfz.epilepsiedetector.services.DetectionService: java.lang.NullPointerException 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleCreateService(ActivityThread.java:2668) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$3100(ActivityThread.java:116) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1846) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4203) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:791) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:549) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.content.ContextWrapper.getPackageName(ContextWrapper.java:120) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.content.ComponentName.<init>(ComponentName.java:75) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.content.Intent.<init>(Intent.java:2302) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at dfz.epilepsiedetector.services.DetectionService.<init>(DetectionService.java:35) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.Class.newInstanceImpl(Native Method) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at java.lang.Class.newInstance(Class.java:1472) 03-31 09:04:10.226: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(1896): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleCreateService(ActivityThread.java:2665) edit Trimmed class code: `public class DetectionService extends IntentService implements SensorEventListener { private SensorManager mSensorManager; private Sensor mAccelerometer; private boolean hasSeizure = false; private final int POLLS_PER_SECOND = 10; public DetectionService() { super("EpilepsionDetectionService"); //mSensorManager = (SensorManager)getSystemService(SENSOR_SERVICE); // mAccelerometer = mSensorManager.getDefaultSensor(Sensor.TYPE_ACCELEROMETER); /*Intent callIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_CALL); callIntent.setData(Uri.parse("tel:" + "+31648363944")); callIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);*/ Intent callIntent = new Intent(DetectionService.this, InformationActivity.class); callIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); getApplication().startActivity(callIntent); //((Activity) getContext()).startActivity(callIntent); }`

  • Display loading while webservice is running

    - by poseid
On the initial request to a page, I trigger a webservice and want to display a loading message. When the page has finished loading, I want to remove the waiting message from screen, but display it again when a change event in a checkbox triggers an Ajax call with another loading message. This code is not behaving to the given spec: $(document).ready( $(function() { $('#loadingDiv').hide(); $('#productsDropDown') .change(function() { var prodValue = $(this).val(); $('#proddate').load('getpdate.php', {prod: prodValue }); }); $('#loadingDiv') .ajaxStart(function() { $(this).show(); }) .ajaxStop(function() { $(this).hide(); }) ; }); ); what am I doing wrong?

  • Webservice for serial port devices

    - by camx
Hi I want to create a remote webservice for an application that is now avaliable only localy. This application controlls three devices (each is controlled separately) connected on serial port. The problem is that I don't know how to take care of passing back information that a device return requested data. For example - I send move command to the motion device (which is very slow and can take a minute or more). Can I just set a big timeout on the client side (and server side) and return for example a true/false if operation is completed or is this a bad idea? Is SOAP with big timeouts ok? And the other question is if Mono on Linux (Ubuntu 9.10, Mono 2.4) is stable enought for making a web service or should I chose Java or some other language? I'm open for recommendations. Thanks for your help!

  • Calling a WCF WebService in PHP via wsHttpBinding.

    - by Justin Dearing
I have a WCF webservice I can connect to it via basicHttp, but not wsHttp. I try to conenct to it via wshttp via the following: $service = new SoapClient ("http://service.companyname.local:6666/Service/?wsdl", array( "location" => "http://service.companyname.local:6666/Service/WCF", "trace" => true, 'soap_version' => SOAP_1_2 ) ); The call to the SoapClient constructor returns fine. When I try to call one using $client-FunctionName, the page just sits there loading for quite a while, and eventually returns the error "Error Fetching http headers". What exactly is this supposed to mean and how do I fix it? (Consuming the service from .Net client works perfectly.)

  • asp.net mvc ignoreRoute with webservice

    - by boz
Howdy, Im adding the filevistacontrol to my asp.net MVC web application. I have a media.aspx page that is ignored in the routing with routes.IgnoreRoute("media.aspx"); This works successfully and serves a standard webforms page. Upon adding the filevistacontrol, I can't seem to ignore any calls the control makes to it's webservice. Eg the following ignoreRoute still seems to get picked up by the MvcHandler. routes.IgnoreRoute("FileVistaControl/filevista.asmx/GetLanguageFile/"); The exception thrown is: 'The RouteData must contain an item named 'controller' with a non-empty string value' Thanks in advance.

  • Never Miss An Important EMail/SMS With Vibration Notifier App

    - by Gopinath
Worried about missing important emails/sms/missed calls as your mobile vibrates only once when you are away from mobile? Don’t worry! Vibration Notifier app is there to fix the problem on your Android phones. Author describes the app as “When you have a missed call or an unread SMS, the app keeps vibrating every X minutes for Y times or until you turn on the display of your device.” What is best with this app is that you can tweak as you like. Want your mobile to vibrate repeatedly for missed calls alone? You can just check Missed Calls option and un-check mails and SMS. You don’t want your mobile to vibrate forever? Configure to vibrate 5 times (or any other number) . You can even configure it to vibrate until the screen is unlocked. This looks like a very promising app for Android mobiles but the App is not yet available on Android Market. Developer has posted this app on XDA Developers Forum. • How can I get run Ubuntu Desktop on my Galaxy Nexus?

    - by Jack Senechal
On the Ubuntu for phones site it advertises the desktop view feature: "The phone becomes a full PC and thin client when docked.". And there's the demo by Canonical of something similar running under Ubuntu for Android. I realize they're different systems, but the end effect is in both is to have a full Ubuntu system running on the phone. I've installed Ubuntu Touch Preview on my Galaxy Nexus (toro), and it's working as expected (no cellular signal, but wifi works, etc). But when I plug in a monitor via HDMI it just mirrors the phone's touch display. There's also currently no bluetooth support for attaching keyboard and mouse. Keyboard only kind of works via USB, and mouse not at all. I've also tried running Ubuntu under Android via VNC, but the lack of responsiveness of VNC makes it impractical for daily use. I'd consider that route again if there is some way to make the UI more responsive. So the question is, how can set up my phone to run Ubuntu Desktop in a way that's useable as a laptop replacement? Is there a way to enable Desktop View on Ubuntu Touch? Or can I run Ubuntu for Android as in the previously referenced demo? Plugging into a monitor would be OK, but I'd love to be able to use the desktop interface with mouse and keyboard through the phone's screen as well. Touch input and an onscreen keyboard would be a plus but is definitely not necessary.
